This week we’re sharing our favourite Holiday Songs!
This is an easy one for me. There’s one song that I can’t wait to put on my stereo as soon as December 1st rolls around, and you can guarantee that I’ll play it at least once a day in the run up to Christmas. It may not be the most traditional song, and it certainly isn’t the cleanest, but it has a charm of it’s own that captures my heart every time.
Fairytale of New York by The Pogues & Kirsty McColl
Why do I love this song so much? Well, for one thing, it has the most beautiful melody, one that is haunting yet traditional, and it crescendos into a chorus that’s insanely catchy. The mixture of Kirsty McColl and Shane McGowan’s voice, added to the beautiful orchestration adds a gaelic feel to this New York-based song. And those of you who have read Fix You know how much I adore New York, so the thought of New York at Christmas is enough to warm the cockles of my heart.
There’s also the little matter of the lyrics. With words like “You scumbag, you maggot, you cheap, lousy faggot”, the song tells the tale of a couple whose love is falling apart, yet they’re reminiscing about the times when they first fell in love. Christmas isn’t always perfect, it isn’t always a fairytale, it can be dark and bleak and bring out the worst in people, too. This song brings that out in spades, and yet it still has a hint of hope that’s laced through it, as the bells are ringing out for Christmas Day!
Last, but definitely not least, there’s the small matter of the video. Matt Dillon was one of my crushes when I was a teenager (The Outsiders, sigh), and seeing him in a NYPD uniform definitely makes my day.
So how about you? Leave me a comment and let me know your favourite holiday song. Then hop over to J.J. Devine’s blog to enjoy some more festive entertainment!

Excerpt
Her lips were glossy and covered with a thick sheen of red. I stared at her mouth while dragging a finger across them and let the paint follow a path down her chin, over her neck, and down her chest. The stain coated the light fabric of the white dress—spoiling it, just like I was spoiling her.
“You can see right through this,” I said roughly and dragged a finger underneath the neckline of the dress. Your little pink nipples are pushing right through it—aching and ready for someone to bite them.”
I let my teeth snap in her ear and then sucked the soft skin into my mouth. “A man like me sees a woman in a dress like this, and that’s what he wants. To touch the nipples you so willingly show off, to bite, pull, tug, and suck on them. He wants to pull those sweet little tits into his mouth, let his tongue run over them until your nipples are so hard they hurt.”
She was shaking, but I wasn’t going to stop there. As if to show her exactly what I was talking about, I moved the palm of my hand over her shoulder and down to her chest. I cupped one of her ripe tits in my hand, squeezing softly at first, and then wrapped my fist around it tightly and pulled.
She whimpered, and her knees shook. I was testing her, and so far she failed. As badly as she thought she wanted what I had to give, she had no fucking clue what it meant. She wasn’t ready.
I released her from my grasp and ran my hand over her clavicle, smearing the rotten red mess all over her chest and the top of the dress before moving it down over her belly.
“I could see the valley between your legs when you walked down the hallway,” I growled in her ear. “I could see your little pussy, the sweet V where I’d sink my cock. All I could think about was your long, skinny legs wrapped around my back while I fucked you right there in the hallway.”
She whined. “Please, oh God.” She grabbed the collar of my shirt and tried to pull me closer. “Fuck me, Vince.”
My cock jumped in reply, but I ignored her and went on with my ministrations. I reached the hem of her skirt, and with a swift rip, I yanked it up over her hip. There wasn’t much of it there in the first place, so it was no big task. That pissed me off even more. There were maybe three inches of lift and I could see her pussy.
Rubbing my coarse finger over her soft, silky mound, I stood back and watched her face. I was testing her, but I wasn’t going to push her. If she showed an ounce of regret, I was done. But I had to see where she stood once and for all.
Her eyes fluttered open as if she could read my thoughts. They were as wide as a newborn chick, scared and astonished, but surprised and exhilarated.
But definitely not ready to leave the nest.
I gave her pussy one more swipe of my finger and then a light slap. The shock showed clear in her eyes, and her mouth fell slack with pleasure. I could feel that she was into it, slick and warm and malleable in my hands.
“That’s right, baby,” I said gruffly. “I want to tear this pussy up. I want to make this pussy cry. You have no idea what I want to do to you, and if you don’t stop teasing me, you’re bound to find out.”
She bucked her hips stubbornly, and I narrowed my eyes. Folding my fingers, I gave her clit a hard flick with enough force to knock a dog on its ass.
“You’re not ready for this—or me,” I said, lowering my voice. “I want to defile you in so many ways, but that’s not what you want.”
“Yes,” she said. Her voice shook, and I could feel her heavy heartbeat through her dress.
“I care about what happens to you, Kelsey,” I said as evenly as I could. “That’s why I took you home—where you belonged. If you think walking around in Jayne’s clothes will do you any good, you’re completely wrong. What I want to do with your body is the same thing every other man out there wants. The only difference is, they won’t stop.”
“Don’t stop,” she said weakly, tears sprouting from her eyes. “I can handle anything from you. I love you, and you damn well know it.”
She dropped to her knees abruptly and raised her hands to undo my fly. I had a brief moment of euphoria. This was a regular fantasy of mine to have her on her knees with her mouth on me. It was too fresh and way too clear for me to think straight.
I jerked her up by her shoulders and pinned her back against the wall. “Stop!”
She snarled and fought against my hold on her. “If you don’t want me, why do you care if someone else does?”
I slammed her lightly against the door and leaned forward again so we were eye to eye. “I do want you—that’s not the problem. I want to fuck you. There’s a difference.”

If you’ve arrived from Leslie Hachtel’s blog, hi and thanks for clicking! This week we are doing something a little different. As the nights draw in, we’ve decided to share our favorite seasonal recipes with you. So take a look at mine, then follow the links to see what the rest of the Romance Writers’ Weekly team will be cooking. If you’re lucky, you should have enough ideas to keep you going for weeks!
Winter is quite possibly my favorite season. I’m not sure if it’s the fact that the dark nights come early, encouraging me to hibernate inside the house, or whether it’s the lure of Christmas, but either way as soon as the clocks turn back I find myself in a baking frenzy, trying to fill all my cupboards ready for the holiday season. Today I’m going to share a recipe my grandmother taught me, which we traditionally cook on ‘stir up Sunday’ – the last Sunday in November.
Grandma Elks’ Fabulous Christmas Pud
For us Brits, Christmas Pudding is the only thing to eat after the Turkey and roast potatoes have been cleared away. It’s a long-lived tradition here, harking back to the middle ages when Plum Puddings were boiled over an open stove. Every family has their own recipe and way of serving it, and here in the Elks household we like to pour brandy over the top then light it before carrying it to the table, to the accompaniment of ‘oohs and aah’s.
Though rich, my children always ask for extra helpings. Not because they like the taste of it, mind you, but because the pudding contains money (which is wrapped in foil and pushed inside the pudding just before serving), and it’s a game to see who can make the most.
Like many dried-fruit based recipes, this one is best made weeks in advance and left to mature in a cool, dark place (if you visit an English house during Christmas, you’ll be surprised what you can find beneath our beds!).
Ingredients
500 g mixed dried fruit (sultanas, raisins, cranberries etc)
1/2 grated nutmeg
100 g dates, chopped up
125 g suet
zest of 1 orange (I like to squeeze in the juice too)
125 g plain flour
125 g caster sugar
150 g fresh white breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons Napoleon brandy
1 handful blanched almonds
1 large egg
150 ml milk
brandy to serve
Method
Grease a 1.5 litre pudding basin with some butter. In a mixing bowl, stir all the ingredients together, except the serving brandy. (In our house it’s tradition that every family member has a stir). Put the mixture into the greased bowl and cover with a double layer of aluminium foil or greaseproof paper. Tie a piece of string round the side of the bowl. Place in a large saucepan with water halfway up the sides of the bowl. Bring the water to the boil, put on a tight-fitting lid, and simmer for 3 hours. Check the water regularly to make sure it doesn’t boil dry. Remove from the pan.
Let it go cold, replace the foil and store in a cool, dark place for until Christmas morning.
On Christmas morning, fill a saucepan quite full with boiling water, put it on the heat and, when it comes back to the boil, place a steamer on top of the pan and turn it down to a gentle simmer. Put the Christmas pudding in the steamer, cover and leave to steam away for 2¼ hours.
You’ll need to check the water from time to time and maybe top it up a bit.
To serve, remove the pudding from the steamer and take off the wrapping. Slide a palette knife all round the pudding, then turn it out on to a warmed plate.
Place a suitably sized sprig of holly on top, and carefully push some foil-covered coins inside the pudding, making sure not to break it up.
Now warm a ladleful of brandy over direct heat, and as soon as the brandy is hot ask someone to set light to it. Place the ladle, now gently flaming, on top of the pudding – but don’t pour it over until you reach the table.
And there you have it, one perfectly tasty, rich (in more ways than one) Christmas pudding.

Blog Tour – Eight Days a Week by Amber L. Johnson
Eight Days a Week
by Amber L. Johnson

A “manny” should always mind his own business. And he definitely shouldn’t fall in love with his boss.

Release Date: November 6 , 2014
Published by The Writers Coffee Shop
Genre: Romance / Contemporary
ISBN e-book: 978-1-61213-329-4
Available from: Amazon, Kobo, Barnes and Noble, and TWCS PH
~~SUMMARY~~
Gwen Stone has secrets she’s not ready to reveal. After a recent promotion at work, she needs a caretaker for her children. She’s frenzied and in a lurch and pretty much ready to hire the first person who comes along. So she does.
Andrew Lyons needs to get out of his sister’s apartment, and a Craigslist posting may be the answer to his prayers. But what he thought was an ad for a room rental turns into a job offer he can’t refuse. Accepting the nanny position could change his life, if only he had a clue how to be a grownup.
A working mother, a shirtless “manny” who looks good in a towel, two children who need more than a babysitter, and hours of kids’ TV can only spell disaster for everyone involved. Because a manny should always mind his own business. And he definitely shouldn’t fall in love with his boss.
Eight Days a Week tells the story of Andrew Lyons, a layabout man-child who will do anything for an easy life, and Gwen Stone, a harassed professional who is desperate to find a good nanny for her ‘children’, Bree and Brady.
And the most important thing to know about this book is that it’s laugh-out loud funny. From the family-sized wagon that he believes means he’ll never have sex again, to the ‘manny log’ he keeps with wry comments about various kids TV shows, the story had me grinning from start to end. But the book isn’t fluff; there’s a deeper, more emotional journey that Amber Johnson takes the reader on. We see each of the characters learn how to come to terms with their situations, how to function as a family, with Gwen realising that she needs to ‘lighten up’, while Andrew learns that it’s impossible to be a man-child when you’re responsible for children of your own.
As always, Johnson’s writing is impeccable, drawing you into the story and painting pictures so vivid it’s hard to believe the characters aren’t real. Touching as well as funny, there are moments of real heartbreak, but these only add to the enjoyment of the book.
Eight Days a Week isn’t the first book I’ve read by this author, and it certainly won’t be the last. Five funny, heartwarming and unforgettable stars!
~~ABOUT THE AUTHOR~~
Amber is a full-time mom and a full-time wife who is employed full time and writes when she can. She believes in Happily Ever Afters that occur every day—despite the obstacles real life serves up on a regular basis. Or perhaps they’re sweeter simply because of them. She always has two rubber bands on her wrist, a song in her head, and too much creamer in her coffee cup that reads ‘Cocoa,’ because she’s a rebel. If she’s not at her desk, with her boys, or behind the computer, she’s supporting live music with her arms raised above her head and her eyes closed, waiting for the drop.

Praise for Eight Days a Week
“Laugh-out-loud story about a guy who goes to look at a room to rent and discovers it comes with a job – that of live-in nanny to two damaged kids. So Andrew Lyons accidentally becomes the “manny”. Written in his POV, this book chronicles his hilarious escapades as he looks after and grows to love Bree and Brady, and his employer, Gwen. His pranks and spot-on observations about kids’ TV shows had me giggling, but there were a few serious moments worthy of a sniffle as well. The star of the show may be Don, though – you’ll just have to read this book to find out about him! Highly recommended.”

Do you like to read romance novels? Wouldn’t you like to know more about your favorite authors? Well you came to the right place! If you’ve arrived from Lanora Mangano’s blog, hi and thanks for clicking! This week’s challenge comes from Sarah Hegger, whose book, Sweet Bea, is available on Amazon now!

Tell me about your three favorite book boyfriends…
Where to start? I can’t even narrow it down to three for the past month, let alone my favorite three of all time! Of course there are my go-to men; the Darcys and the Rochesters who never fail to make you fall in love with them, no matter how dog-eared your book is. But then I start thinking about Jamie Fraser and all the other heroes that have captured my heart over the years, and I’m back to square one.
So, rather than choose my three favorite book boyfriends of all time, I’m going to tell you the three UNLIKELIEST book boyfriends I’ve discovered. Those characters who–in spite of their flaws or differences–have reeled me in and made my heart speed over and over again.
The Drag Queen
By now, most of my friends are bored with me telling them just how hot Nicholas, the hero of L.H. Cosway’s Painted Faces, is. When the heroine, Freda, first meets him, she finds him attractive, but when he’s dressed as his alter ego, Viv, he takes attractive to a whole other level. I found myself falling in love with him right alongside the heroine.
He isn’t perfect; at first he treats Fred badly, not understanding how his actions make her feel. But Painted Faces is a story of change and redemption, and Nicholas becomes the man / woman he always hoped he could be. Perhaps that’s why I fell so hard for him. As with all L.H. Cosway books, this is a story I could read again and again!
The Genetics Professor
I read Graeme Simsion’s hilarious Rosie Project earlier this year, and I found Don Tillman gorgeously endearing. A man who approaches romance in the same way he works on a science project, Don believes that finding a wife should be easy. Of course, that’s before he meets Rosie Jarman, a chaotic whirlwind of a heroine who turns his life upside down.
Although on the surface Don seems staid, Graeme Simsion paints him as a man who slowly learns that he has romance inside him, and manages to sweep Rosie (and me) right off her feet!
The Time Traveler
There are some books that sweep you up and take you to another world, making you stay up all night and ignore all those chores you should be doing. The Time Traveler’s wife was definitely one of those books for me. I fell in love with Henry De Tamble, the chronologically-impaired hero, who is doomed to skip through time, unable to control where he ends up. The story isn’t for the faint-hearted, but there was something about the doomed romance that grew between Henry and Claire (his wife) that made me fall in love with him, too.
Wow, that was much harder than I thought it would be! Thank you to Sarah Hegger for giving us all an enjoyable challenge. And now to read more Romance Weekly Blog Hop go to the fabulous J.R. Richardson’s blog and read her answers!

If you’ve arrived from Andrea Mansue’s blog, hi and thanks for clicking! This week we are doing something a little different, thanks to Mishka Jenkins. Each one of us is writing a love-letter 400 words long, which has to include the words Sweet, Pumpkin and Brush. So take a read of mine–which I’ve called ‘Do You Remember the First Time?’, then follow the links to see how the rest of the Romance Writer’s Weekly team have fared!
To my husband,
Do you remember the first time? The air had taken on the coolness of autumn, laced with the aroma of bonfires and fallen apples. Night time crept upon us like a thief, stealing away the daylight long before we were ready to say goodbye to the sun. But though the bitterness of winter was waiting around the corner, it was tempered by your sweet kisses, your lips tasting of candy corn, your breath laced with apple cider.
That night you were Jason and I was Elvira. Do you remember the way my synthetic wig attached itself to everything I came into contact with? Trees, fences… you.
We walked up to the final house, the stoop lined with carved pumpkins, their angry faces flickering as candles danced with the wind. Scooping the last of the candy into our palms we ran away laughing, our cheeks red with humour and exertion.
Later, the redness turned to pink, as laughter became drawn-out moans. We kissed behind the ghost house on the corner of Pine and Fourteenth, letting its long-abandoned walls shield us from the stares of passers by.
Your fingers were bold that night, digging underneath clothes, sliding up skin. Even though I laughed, it wasn’t because I was ticklish, it was because I knew nothing would be the same again. Your mouth stole away the sounds before they even escaped my throat, moving softly, slowly, and even when I closed my eyes all I could see was you.
“Be mine,” you whispered.
“I already am.”
My skirt caught on the brush of a long-dead hedge, ripping the fabric halfway up my thigh. Your fingers followed the tear, tracing a line of fire, and my heart pounded with the need only you could fulfil.
Though the ground was cold I didn’t feel it; any frostiness was melted by our mutual need. Your mask lay long-abandoned on the grass, joined by my wig, my dress, your pants. Then it was simply us, Alex and Lila, two bodies, one desire.
I think about that night a lot. I remember it as I dress our children in matching ghost outfits. And as I lead them out of our front door, I wonder what you’d say if I found that wig again. If I put it on my head and led you out into our yard and reminded you how sweet October nights can taste.
Lila xx
