Synopsis

I’m not a philosophical kind of bloke, but I know something about luck. A childhood on the wrong side of advantage will teach you that. It’s all a matter of chance. It’s both your circumstances and the chances you take. So I’ve always been a gambler and a ladies man — they love me and I love them. Now I’ve found one like no other — an American, Allison Wright. When I met her, the fates were on my side, but too soon I learned the odds were against me.

Excerpt

After the bartender took our drink orders, she looked up at me, “I’m going to say this because it’s true. I’m not blowing smoke. You really were a little like James Bond at the table.”

I grinned. “How so? Because I had a beautiful bird at my side?”

“No. Just what I said before. The accent, the suit, playing cards…” Her smile turned shy, and she swiveled on the stool. “I think the word is dashing.”

“Well, thank you, but that’s not really a word that applies to me.” She had no idea how much I appreciated the compliment. Our drinks had only just arrived, though, so the time wasn’t right to get to serious. I held up my glass. “To Lady Luck, which you seem to be for me.”

She clinked her glass to mine. “I’ll toast to luck, but I don’t think that’s a good name for me.”

“As a Bond girl, you do need a name.”

“Oh, God. Not one of those.”

“Let’s see. Which is your favorite?”

“I’m not going to play this game.”

“Why ever not?”

She poked her finger at my chest. “You just want me to say the names because they’re dirty.”

“Not true. I was just making conversation.” I took a sip and smiled. “And I wouldn’t say they’re dirty, just a tad naughty. So what’s your favorite name? Pussy Galore or Honey Ryder?”

“I’m not going to answer that.” She was playfully smug.

“I’ve always been partial to Plenty O’Toole.”

“What movie was she in?”

“Diamonds Are Forever.”

“Am I missing something? Plenty O’Toole doesn’t sound sexual to me.”

“O’Toole?”

“Like Peter O’Toole?” She shook her head. “I don’t get it.”

“Ah, I suppose tool is a British word.”

“For what?” She held up her hand. “Stop. You don’t have to tell me. I figured it out.”

“Such a clever girl.”

“It wasn’t that difficult.”

“I’m so happy to have expanded your vocabulary, love. Now which do you prefer? Pussy Galore or Plenty O’Toole?”

The twinkle was in her eye, but she kept mum with her lips pressed together. I chuckled. “It’s all right, love. There’s no wrong answer.”

“Do you torment every woman you meet like this? I know you can’t at work or you’d have sexual harassment issues right and left.”

About the Author

1172264_442220285891783_2058883046_o

Mary Whitney blames Laura Ingalls Wilder and Margaret Mitchell for her obsession with romance novels. At an early age, Mary fell in love with the Little House series and its dreamy hero, Almanzo Wilder, who only wanted Laura to be Laura. Like many women, Mary later graduated to the ultimate, tall and dark bad boy, Rhett Butler, who loved Scarlett despite her flaws.

Mary has lived around the U.S., and after a first career in the non-profit world and politics, she’s settled in Northern California with her husband and daughters. She spends her days writing characters she hopes somehow capture the romance of Rhett and Scarlett and Almanzo and Laura. She’s a firm believer in what Rhett says to Scarlett: “You should be kissed, and often, and by someone who knows how.

Eight Days a Week

by Amber Johnson

Eight-Days-a-Week-Hi-Res-Cover

Release Date: November 6 , 2014

Published by The Writers Coffee Shop

SUMMARY

Eight-Days-a-Week-3D-Bookstack-2

Andrew Lyons has been running from responsibility his entire life. Returning home after a couple of years abroad, he finds himself jobless and living in close quarters with a sister he can barely tolerate. At her request, he searches for a job on Craigslist, but finds a room for rent instead. Or so he thinks.

Gwen Stone is in a lurch. With a new promotion at work and two young children at home, she’s in dire need of a caretaker. When Andrew shows up on her doorstep, she thinks he may be exactly what she’s looking for. When she offers him the job, he’s more than interested and she’s confident she’s made the right choice.

It shouldn’t be awkward at all.

But Andrew isn’t exactly forthcoming about his intentions, and Gwen has some secrets she’s unwilling to share. When the mom and the “manny” don’t have a clue what they’re doing, things are bound to get messy.

What do you get with two kids who don’t know how to be kids, a man who never grew up, Beatles Rock Band, and hundreds of hours of kids’ TV? A very interesting job, indeed. But when emotions get in the way, there’s more at stake than just an occupation.

Because life doesn’t have clock-out button. And neither does love.

Amber is a full-time mom and a full-time wife who is employed full time and writes when she can. She believes in Happily Ever Afters that occur every day—despite the obstacles real life serves up on a regular basis. Or perhaps they’re sweeter simply because of them. She always has two rubber bands on her wrist, a song in her head, and too much creamer in her coffee cup that reads ‘Cocoa,’ because she’s a rebel.

If she’s not at her desk, with her boys, or behind the computer, she’s supporting live music with her arms raised above her head and her eyes closed, waiting for the drop.

If you’ve arrived from Mikki Cober’s blog , hi and thanks for clicking! This week we doing something a little bit different. So instead of answering three questions on our writing process, let’s talk food!

What is your best / favorite 15 minute dinner idea?

I love cooking, and even better, I love eating, so this one’s an easy question for me. If I had to choose my favourite ever dinner, it would be steak and champagne. Here’s an easy recipe that you can follow in just under 15 minutes.

Steak          Champagne

Ingredients:

 A cell phone
A finger
A suitable dining companion (preferably hot and rich)
Around $100 in cash

Method:

Batter eyelashes and invite gorgeous, handsome man out for dinner (because, hey, it’s 14 years into the new millennium and we are all smart, intelligent women) – 5 minutes
Log onto restaurant website and book romantic table for two. Preferably away from prying eyes. If offered table near bathrooms, run, don’t walk away. – 2 minutes
Take cab to restaurant, picking hot sexy man up on the way. – 3 minutes
Order champagne and steak while flirting extensively with hot, sexy man. Avoid letting steak juices drip on your blouse unless it’s part of a seduction technique. – 2 minutes
Ask for check (splitting it two ways, because it’s 14 years into the new millennium…) and grab taxi, taking hot sexy man home in doggy bag. – 3 minutes
Enjoy!

Serving Suggestion – Best served warm.

image

So there you have it. 15 minutes until the best dinner I can imagine. All it takes is a little effort, a lot of imagination and a very handsome man sitting opposite you. Enjoy!

We shared a love that regulated every heartbeat and every breath we took. It was all encompassing. I thought our love could withstand time and anything thrown our way.

I was wrong. So wrong.

I used to be happy. I used to be Juliette Weston when Dylan Somers filled my life with promises of love and a happy ever after. But when he took my heart and broke it into a million pieces, I became someone else entirely. In one afternoon, I lost my soul mate. I lost everything I knew myself to be.

Three years later, the man who destroyed me is back.

To assuage his guilt? To finish the job? It doesn’t matter… I won’t let him this time. I’m stronger. I’ve moved on. He won’t affect me.

This is a story of love and betrayal. Pain and loss. Happiness and fate. It’s about finding your true destiny.

This is our story.

And it’s not for the faint of heart.

Cover Reveal – Beneath the Scars by Melanie Moreland

Beneath the Scars-ebook

Event Organized by ❤MaE Book Tours & Promo Stars Services

Synopsis

The sound of the ocean, the crash of the waves as they kick up against the sand and rocks—these are the only sounds Megan Greene wants to hear. She wants to leave the rest of the world behind, and find some peace. The offer of a private house on the beach, set in a small town in Maine, is perfect. Time to think—to be by herself. It’s all she wants. It’s the escape she needs. Until she stumbles across the painting that seems to echo her own chaotic mindset. Until she meets the unfriendly artist behind the stormy painting and discovers his secrets.

All Zachary Adams wants is to be left alone. His canvases, and the unending scope of the ocean and sand, are his life. They direct him—fill his hours. Bring him focus. Until she enters his life. She dredges up memories of the past—the haunting images he has hidden for years; the fears he has never shared. A story he keeps buried below the surface.

Can she make him see what he is missing? Can he trust her enough to believe?

Together they embark on a journey where their pasts collide and threaten to tear them apart. Will their fragile bond hold or wash away with the ebbing tide?

Cover Reveal – Harkham’s Case by Chanse Lowell

Cover Reveal

Harkham'sCase cover

Mari squinted. “Well, if it’s not Asperger’s, then what is it?”

Samara paused before answering and gripped the door handle. “We don’t know what Adam has. He was the first documented case. For now, he’s called Harkham’s Case number one.”

Mari smiled as a tear leaked out. “Okay.” But nothing was. This changed everything. He really wasn’t normal.

“He needs you, Mari. I’m not sure why or how he even decided that. It took years before he’d let Dad touch him.”

Mari pulled over on the side of the road. “Years? His own father?”

“Dustin’s not his biological father. It’s complicated,” Samara said, turning her head to look out her side window.

“Okay, it’s complicated. Whose family isn’t?”

“Ours is more than the Brady Bunch. There’s no laughs when somebody breaks their nose from a football, because Adam can be taken away from us, and we’re all he has left,” Samara replied

Mari gripped Samara’s arm. “Tell me. He’s dragged me into this—I need to know.”

Adam Latham looks like any other charming, good-looking high school senior, but underneath—there’s a lot more to him than anyone could ever guess. He has an uncontrollable need for constant touch to ground him, to keep the numbers from invading his brain when anxiety gets the better of him.

When Adam resolves to finally complete high school and get his diploma, the social demands amongst his younger peers prove to be much more challenging than he’d imagined.

Lucky for him, his first class holds Marissa Cole, and she’s willing to let him hold her hand so he can keep control. Adam’s family sees him as a danger to himself if not strictly regulated, but to Mari he’s a boy with the most pure soul. One so intriguing, she can’t resist him and he quickly steals her heart.

How will she cope when he invades her world and turns her life upside down, unearthing her own past traumas and issues? Will Adam find a way to help her find peace and forgiveness through love, or will their own problems keep them apart?

There’s only one way to find out—to forge ahead and discover what it means to reinvent themselves together, becoming their own special kind of individuals worthy of each other’s love.

Romance Weekly #LoveChatWrite #LoveWriteChat – 15th July

Romance Weekly Chat Do you like to read romance novels? Wouldn’t you like to know more about your favorite authors? Well you came to the right place! Join the writers of Romance Weekly as we go behind the scenes of our books and tell all….. About our writing of course! Every week we’ll answer questions and after you’ve enjoyed the blog on this site we’ll direct you to another. So come back often for a thrilling ride! Tell your friends and feel free to ask us questions in the comment box.

If you’ve arrived from Elizabeth Jannette’s blog, hi and thanks for clicking! This week’s questions are brought to you by Jo Cursed be the Wicked finalRichardson, whose amazing book Cursed be the Wicked is one of my favourite reads so far this year!

1.  How Often do you Write?

writing like crazy Honest answer? As often as I can. Sometimes this can mean daily, sometimes only a couple of times a week. I have written as much as 15,000 words in a week, and as little as nothing. I have a full time job plus a family, so writing (also known as me-time) has to fit around those.
But one day, I’ll have my own little garrett and hide away from the world. At that point, I plan to write at least 5000 words a day!

2.  Do you think it’s important to your craft to write as much as you can, and as often as you can?

1000 wordsI think it definitely helps. Writing is like any muscle–it works best when exercised often. However, writing doesn’t just mean writing your story. I often jot down little descriptive paragraphs that take my fancy, or write reviews of books where I can use descriptive words to really show what I liked about them.
And no, I don’t always write 1000 words a day. Sometimes a lot more, often a lot less. But it’s a good target to aspire to!

3.  What is your opinion on the saying “if you don’t write every day, you’re not a writer”?

who am i to judge This t-shirt says it all. Who am I to judge? If you write, you’re a writer. Whether it takes you ten years or ten days to write a book, everybody’s different. I thank God we have authors like Donna Tartt, who took around six or seven years to write The Goldfinch. On the other end of the scale, the voracious reader in me loves the fact that Elle Casey releases a book every month. Both of them are writers, but the way they do it is very different.
I guess what I’m saying is the only person I can judge is myself. Do I call myself a writer? Sometimes. But I’m also a worker, a mum, a wife, a daughter. And I love being all of these things.

Release Day and Review – Ricochet by Lore Ree

review

.

Ricochet is the debut release from new author Lore Ree. I’ve been a fan of her online work for a while, and when I got the chance to read and review an ARC copy of her novella, I jumped at the chance.

The story opens with Miles Bedford shopping for engagement rings for his fiance-to-be, and I have to say I loved the way the author described the visit to the jewelry store. It was so spot on from a male point of view that I found myself sniggering. And I think that’s the first thing I love about this book, the way she gets the tone so perfectly right. So often we read a male pov that sounds way too feminine, but with Miles, that certainly wasn’t the case. His words rang true, and that’s a testament to Lore Ree’s amazing ability to write.

I’m always nervous about giving too much away in a review–particularly for a novella–so I’m not going to outline too much of the story. Suffice it to say that Miles thinks he has it all worked out at the age of 25, but that life decides otherwise and throws a few curve balls his way. Along with his best friend Warren, girlfriend Ariana and new interest Noelle, we are taken on a fun, emotional ride as Miles learns that even the best laid plans can be derailed spectacularly.

As I said before, the writing is excellent, and the story is long enough to be fulfilling in a truly amusing and emotional way. It’s a fantastic debut novella, and I can’t wait to read more of Lore Ree’s stories. A five star read for me.

Synopsis

“The Rebound Effect” states that in order to get over your ex, you have to get under someone else. At least, that’s what Miles Bedford’s best friend keeps telling him. So when he’s suddenly ricocheted back into the single life, Miles has one thing in mind. The plan is simple, and his intentions are clear. He’s not looking for love. But sometimes all it takes is one person, and one weekend, to change everything. Meet the Author I began exploring my love for writing as a child, when I started penning original poetry. However, it wasn’t until early 2012 that I picked up a pen—or my phone, if you want to get technical—to write my first full length story, inspired by a close friend’s evolving relationship with her best friend. That rush of completing the story, posting it online, and interacting with readers and fellow writers opened up the floodgates, and I haven’t looked back since. I write romance targeted to a more mature audience of readers. My stories fall under the categories of Contemporary Romance, New Adult, and Erotica. When asked why I choose these genres, my answer is simple: I like reading things that are on the sexier side. So that’s what I try to write, too. At the end of the day, I guess you can say I’m a daydreamer and a word mixologist hoping to serve my readers up stories they can enjoy. Born in New York, raised in Florida, and matured in Massachusetts, I consider myself a bit of an East Coast baby without limitations on a specific region. At the moment, however, I reside in Florida with my family. excerpt And we were quiet again because I realized what I’d said. We were going to my house. The silence and my thoughts about what bringing Noelle home symbolized lasted our whole ride, only ending when we got inside my place and I offered her something to drink. I leaned against the counter and rested my head against the cabinet above. My heart slammed in my chest. This was momentous. The importance of having Noelle in my house—in my kitchen—drinking from glasses I bought after my ex left me and took all her things, along with some of my confidence with her. I felt good—happy despite my nerves. In one night Noelle threw me and my plans off kilter. The guys were right; she had me by the balls. My only desire was to get out of my head and enjoy every minute of our limited time together. I opened my eyes and found her watching me over the top of the glass. A small smile played on her juicy lips, and she had that look that let me know she knew what she did to me. Social Links
