Bringing Back the Member Prize Draw
If you’ve been with me for a while, you may remember the regular prize draw, in which I picked people to receive a choice of free ebook.
It got a bit cumbersome, but I’ve hit on a simpler way to make it work, so here goes.
I will endeavour to pick a winner in every newsletter that I send out, but there will be only one way to see if you’ve won: you’ll need to read your newsletters.
How will you take part?Simply click on any link in your newsletters. So you might click through to view the featur...

A Study In Stone Audiobook
Narrated by professional actor Greg Barnett, the audiobook is a great way to experience the Devonshire Mysteries.
Below you’ll find some handy links, and I’ll be updating this page as the audiobook rolls out to stores and libraries. It would be unwieldy and difficult to maintain if I try to include every store and territory, so if I haven’t included your favourite store, please bear with me. Y...
A Chat with the Author Michael Campling – 10 August 2021
Another chat, recorded while I walk through the Devon fields (and lanes) with Lottie.
There are quite a few tramping noises in the first few minutes as I march along the road, but these subside later.
I hope you enjoy listening.

From time to time I mention the River Teign (pronounced ‘Teen’) in the Devonshire Mysteries, so here are some photos of a stretch of the upper Teign on a sunny summer’s day.
The path runs through a nature reserve that consists of an unspoilt woodland – a lovely cool place for a walk on a hot day.
I hope you like the photos.

While Sue and I were in Yorkshire, we visited an RSPB (the Royal Society for the Preservation of Birds) reserve for sea birds.
The cliffs were dramatic enough, but the birds sailing past made it a magical experience. To cap it, we saw an albatross, a unique sighting in the UK. This beautiful bird was a long way off course, engaged in a doomed search for a mate. I felt sorry for the bird, but it was a wonderful sight as it sailed past below us. I didn’t take a photo of it because I wanted to watc...

Sue and I made time to visit Blackingstone Rock. Having written a story about the place, I thought I’d better share it with you.
The Rock, and the path to it, are hard to find. There was no signpost, and the car park was small and neglected. The path was so overgrown that we had to push our way through the undergrowth. The bracken was taller than me!
No one else was there, and we had fun exploring and taking photos.
Below you can see various views of the rock and the surrounding countryside.

Sue (Mrs C) and I have just come back from a week in my hometown, Pickering in North Yorkshire. It was a welcome break, and quite novel for us to be able to stroll into town and pop into the shops or a cafe.
Of course, I took a few snaps to try and capture the place for you.

Murder Between the Tides – Sources
I hope you enjoyed the story. This book felt like my homage to the classic golden-age mysteries that I grew up reading. What better setting for a mystery than a seaside hotel? We had the eclectic mixture of guests, a buried secret or two, a sense of rivalry and a quirky method of murder.
But I was keen to keep this in line with the rest of the Devonshire Mysteries (even though it is set in Cornwall), so the friendship between Dan and Alan ...
