Walks With Lottie – A Podcast About Self Publishing and Writing – Ep 4
Welcome to episode 4 of my walking, talking podcast, in which I talk about methods of outlining and looking for alternatives to Scrivener.
Thank you for listening and make sure you get to the end for the funny bit.
I’d love to have some comments from you so please feel free to stick your oar in.

Walks With Lottie 3 – A podcast about writing and self publishing
Here’s episode 3 of my podcast about writing, self-publishing and marching through the countryside with our black labrador, Lottie.
Today I talk about the difficulty of getting reviews, book bloggers and what great people writers are. I also mention negative reviews and why I don’t do them.

Walks With Lottie 2 – a podcast about writing and self publishing
In which I talk about word counts, getting started and going overboard with research – and of course, give Lottie some exercise at the same time.
This is my second episode and the sound quality is much better.
Please leave comments and I’ll try and respond in the podcast.

Walks With Lottie 1 – a podcast about writing and self publishing
OK so here’s my first attempt at talking to you whilst I walk with our black labrador Lottie.
The sound quality is very poor and my efforts at editing are still at the learn as I go along stage, so please accept my apologies. The wind noise is horrible I’m afraid, even though I cut the worst bit out.
The next one will be better.
If you do listen, then thank you very much and if you’d like to leave a comment, I’ll try and address it next time.

Writing Tips – Getting Started – 1
People always ask writers where they get their ideas.
Well, they get from a big shop. It has a cafe and tills and everything. You can spend the whole day filling up your trolley. It’s filled with exciting words that seem to come from a foreign language. And there’s furniture too – lots and lots of furniture.
*Receives a note*
Ah. Sorry. That’s not the Idea store, that’s the IKEA store.
Well that explains a lot.
Seriously though, did you just imagine the Idea Store for a moment? Did yo...

Writing Tips – Short Stories – 1
Don’t tell us a character was nervous, show us the effect that this nervousness has on their body; the way they behave and the things they say.
Can they feel sweat breaking out on their forehead? Do they run a hand over their face or suddenly say something unexpectedly harsh?
How wouldyoufeel in their situation? It has to be real toyoubefore you can make it real to your readers.

What I’ve Learned About Self-Publishing (So Far) – Part 3
Just in case you’ve missed them, here are links to part 1 and part 2.
There. Now you’re all caught up, let’s mix our metaphors and take an old chestnut by the horns.
The Writing Routine.
Bear with me. I know that an awful lot has been said about this by writers with much bigger profiles than me, but I want to cut through the pretentious stuff.
You do not have to have a regular writing routine, but if you do, you will write more and your writing will be of a higher quality.
And here’s another thi...
