Moving Short Stories – Free for Two Days

My collection of moving short stories, Changes, is free for two days. These stories may make you cry a little, but I hope that it’s only in a nice, life-affirming kind of way.

Far be it from me to tell you how to respond to my stories, but, to be honest, they make me well up a bit and I’m pretty sure I know what happens in them.

Writing Tip of the Day – Set Your Characters Free

Unfortunately, or very fortunately indeed depending on how you look at it, writing is a very nebulous art.

So here’s my caveat: There is no one right way to write and free advice is usually worth what it costs.

But if you feel passionately about your story, then let your characters tell it for you. Decide who they are – i.e. who they are when they’re alone in the dark. What goes through their minds. How do they see the world?

Don’t just sit there – do something different. Take a break then try working in a new location. Spend a few minutes blasting down ideas with pen and paper, even if they seem silly.

Whatever you try, keep going. Keep writing. Sometimes when we break through a roadblock, we produce our very best work.
