A Great Book for Teenagers – Classic Fantasy & Magic Video Review

I’m so passionate about promoting great books for teenagers (and everyone else) that I’ve turned yesterday’s post into a video review and podcast.

Remember, if you have a favourite book or two that deserves more attention, whether indie or trad published, mention it on twitter to @mikeycampling with the hashtag #gudbux. If it’s a superbbook, I’ll talk about it on my site, youtube, and even in a newsletter to my wonderful subscribers. Thank you.

Some Classic Fantasy You may Have Missed

Hello my friends.

I’m really keen on pushing as many good books into the limelight as possible, and I especially want to bring attention to those hidden masterpieces and forgotten gems that hold special places in our hearts, but aren’t being promoted by their publishers and authors as successfullyas they could be. If you have a favourite book or two that fits that category, and I don’t mind if it’s indie or trad published so long as it’s really GOOD, then please send an email my way v...

My Tribute to Sir Terry Pratchett

I’ve been lucky enough to meet and spend some time with Sir Terry Pratchett a couple of times in my life and I wanted to share those memories and pay tribute to Sir Terry on this very sad day. He was a warm, generous and genuinely humorous man and he will be much missed by us all.
If you’ve enjoyed a few laughs from Sir Terry, please consider donating to a charity involved in the care of people with Alzheimer’s disease and their families, or perhaps lend your support to a medical research cha...

Book Cover Design – To Trope or not to Trope?

wpid-20150307_173315.jpg

Saw these book covers, all on the same table in Waterstones and I couldn’t resist putting them next to each other. This whole ‘silhouette of a person running/escaping/fleeing for their lives’ thing is totally overdone. I guess it sells books though. What do you think – should we use a recognisable, visual trope as a signal to the reader, or should we strive for originality and take a risk? Comments welcome from writers, readers, cover designers and everyone else.

The post Book Cover...
