It didn’t not happen

because you wanted it

too much. It didn’t happen

because when it finally

was right in-front of you,

you decided that you

deserved more.

We lost our love

in heated arguments

that we will not

remember months

from now. We didn’t

just wake up one day

and feel empty. It happened

as time pushed us away

from one another. This is

how it usually happens.

This is how people lose

sight of what’s important.

There is no winner or loser,

there is only distance.

Even if the distance is just

a bed space away.

I love you for everything

that you are, that you’re not,

and what you are going

to become. Don’t hesitate

to tell me your dreams,

your fears, and what it is

that you expect to get

out of this. I will never be

the one to make you feel

insignificant. You are exactly

what I have been looking for.

“We don’t make mistakes so we can end up hating ourselves. We make mistakes to remind ourselves that sometimes it’s okay to get it wrong. That sometimes we have to show ourselves that we are bad to remember that it’s the good that we are after. That it’s the good that we want.”

I want to remember
you like this: eyes too tired
to stay open, and your
hands with thoughts
of their own. Your fingers
exploring my body
even when your mind has
stopped giving orders.

I don’t like dreaming about you because when I wake up my whole body aches from being tricked into thinking that I was really touching you. That you were really there, and that you really did want me. I don’t like waking up after I dream about you because whenever I turn over to the other side of the bed you’re still not there, and I am still without you.

“What we had was not true love.

What we had, what we flaunted

was the simplest form of lucid infatuation.

We didn’t want solidarity for each other,

and we also didn’t want to see each

other being happy with someone else.

So we tried keeping what we had alive

with poetry lines and promises of

tomorrow being better than today.

But what we had, what we convinced

ourselves to believe was not true love.

But the simplest form of infatuation

pretending to be something that

it will never become.”

Don’t call me sweetheart.
There is a storm brewing
inside of me, and there is
nothing sweet about
an upcoming destruction.
I know that you have
convinced yourself that
I am made-up of all things
that are soft and gentle,
but I was built with
the remaining ashes
of lovers stories gone
wrong. So don’t call me
sweetheart. Because
at any moment I could
burst at the seams,
and set your entire
logic on fire.

I am not afraid

of letting you go.

I’m afraid of whose

arms you will

retreat to when I

finally close mine.
