"You’ve made it to the age
of intoxicated
freedom and what most consider
the start of..."

“You’ve made it to the age

of intoxicated

freedom and what most consider

the start of adulthood.

Congratulations,

you’re still alive.

“Deceased at the age of 18”

you always thought the papers

would print this title off after the day

of your 18th birthday, but now

you’re 21 and there isn’t enough

ink in this world to help you feel

at ease with the fact that you

are still growing up, still fighting.

They ask you if you feel different,

older, more mature and experienced

with the ways of the world.

You shrug, say you don’t know

and take another shot.

You make your way to the bars

bathroom, and now here you

are, facing yourself and the years

that you pushed through

before you. You wonder if you

have changed. You touch

your skin and your face but

nothing seems to have changed

overnight as everyone

thinks it has. You are still

who you were when you turned

18, but the only thing that is

different is what everyone

can’t see; everything

that is inside of you.”

I wonder how we would
have turned out, if our love
would have made it if we
met at a later time,...

I wonder how we would

have turned out, if our love

would have made it if we

met at a later time, knowing

what we know now. I think

we would have had the strength

to keep fighting for this

instead of doing what we did

which was giving up and

walking away. But time has

a selfish way of showing

you things that you could

have used during those tough

moments, and maybe we

were actually meant to be

as distant as we are now.

"I was thinking of you and had a daydream. We had a picnic in a meadow somewhere near a small stream...."

“I was thinking of you and had a daydream. We had a picnic in a meadow somewhere near a small stream. I fed you blackberries till your lips were stained, and then we kissed till my lips were stained too. Then I held you close and we were more intertwined than being side by side, and then I stroked my fingertips over your eyelids and lips. Oh, your eyes make me swoon.”

- A text message that I received from a dreamy boy the other night

You're already making so much impact on people's lives with your poetry, love. I know you have made a huge impact on mine.

I want to hold you in my fragile arms and kiss your forehead because you are so warm and so wonderful.

Tonight I will kiss

the clouds in hopes

that they will come

close to tasting

how you used to.
