How You Meditate Matters
When I meditate, I don’t strive to empty my mind of all thought or seek to reach a higher place within myself. Because I am a believer in Jesus Christ, my meditation practice consists of focusing on the word of God and receiving greater insight and understanding from God.
As a holistic nurse educator, I feel obligated to share all types of information with my audience. This includes various meditation and yoga practices, many of which I don’t practice or believe in. What I am doing is creating...

The Downfall of Independence
Like many women, I’ve learned that independence is what should be sought after. The ability to take care of yourself, standing on your own two feet… alone. Caring for yourself financially, living & traveling as you desire. Being well educated & climbing your career ladder. Etc.
But in the midst of this independent living, you begin to believe that you can do all things- alone. You begin to believe that if you work hard enough or want it badly enough, you can do it & you can have it.
But where d...

Wasting Time
How many times & I’m how many ways have you been disobedient to God? After I wrote & self published my first book, I found myself wandering aimlessly away from God and eventually, kindly telling Him I no longer wanted to do what He asked of me.
I didn’t understand how this book that had taken so long to put together, including countless hours of learning self-publishing & design was not supplementing my income.
Didn’t God know that I had just walked away from my nursing career to care for this...

Don’t Get Distracted
As I look back over the past four years since, I’m thankful for how far I’ve come. I unintentionally became an entrepreneur as my husband and I decided I would become a stay at home Mom and I wrote and self-published my first book. Soon after, I started a new blog, This Holistic Life, sharing all things holistic and continuing to teach nursing.
Somewhere along my path, I decided that I wanted to turn my blog into a business. Now I know how very little I knew about business, social media and my...

Spirituality
From the holistic, integrative perspective of health care, the mind, body, and spirit compose the whole person and are so interconnected and intertwined that it’s impractical to try to separate the three dimen...

Reflecting on the Moment

I’m sitting here reflecting on the goodness of God. It’s December & I’m sitting here spending my evening just as I imagined; surrounded by my family, holding our new baby, tucked under a blanket on the couch gazing at our white light lit Christmas tree.
I’m so thankful. I’m thankful for the simple, everyday things. I’m thankful for all that I’ve experienced thus far & greatly anticipating what is to come.
I also understand. I understand how significant this very moment is. I understand that the...
