Tzu Chi Holds First Distribution in Florida After Hurricane Ian
After Hurricane Ian caused widespread damage to the southeast United States in September, Tzu Chi volunteers in the U.S. held the first distribution on Saturday, October 15, in the hardest-hit areas of Florida, Arcadia City, and Fort Myers City. They helped a total of 235 disaster-affected households.

Tzu Chi Repairs Mountain Presbyterian Church in Taiwan After Earthquake
The ceiling on the second floor of the church collapsed, the crack on the wall on the first floor extended to the square fence, and the water tower fell down. It was after the 0918 Chishang Earthquake that the Zhuo Le Presbyterian Church in Zhuoxi Township, Hualien County was damaged. From October 1, Tzu Chi volunteers started to repair the houses in Zhuoxi Township. They also assisted in the restoration of the church -- the spiritual fortress of local residents. The Township, on the Central Mountain Range, has a population of about 6,000 residents, mainly Aboriginal people, including Bunun, Truku and Seediq.

Tzu Chi Repair Team Soothes Minds After 918 Chishang Earthquake
The volunteers drove on the industrial road in the rice fields, and on the single-lane bridge where vehicles must not meet. And then they followed the satellite guidance before turning into the alley; they had to get out of the vehicle to confirm whether their trucks loaded with repair tools could enter and leave it. They patiently listened to the owners’ instructions; after the survey, they returned to the urban area to obtain additional materials.

After Earthquake, Tzu Chi Volunteers Help Elderly Repair Water Pipes in Yuli
"The most painful thing is that the water pipe is broken and there is no water available!" After the 0918 earthquake, 80-year-old Mr. Wei had to go to the train station to use the toilet; to take a bath, he went to the Antong Hot Spring Hotel (安通溫泉旅館); and, to brush his teeth and wash his face every day, he had to fetch water from his neighbor. For drinking water, he depended on bottled water. For a whole week, his life was like that.

Tzu Chi Develops Disaster Relief Plan After Hurricane Ian Hits Naples in Florida
Hurricane Ian, one of the strongest in American history, made landfall in Florida on the afternoon of September 28, local time. The southwestern coast of Florida was severely damaged. Tzu Chi in the United States immediately launched a disaster relief protocol after the hurricane passed.

Through Distributions, Tzu Chi Promotes Goodness in Sint Maarten
On September 6, 2017, powerful Hurricane Irma devastated the Caribbean. It caused severe injuries and damage to houses in Sint Maarten -- it accounts for 44 per cent of an island in the west Caribbean and is part of the Netherlands. The remaining 56 per cent of the island is the French possession of Saint Martin. At that time, Tzu Chi volunteers seized the opportunity to provide food to the victims during the emergency. Love from Tzu Chi never fades away; it remains, until now.

Tzu Chi Helps Elderly Ukrainians in Lublin, Poland
"You guys are so good looking!" 74-year-old grandfather Nadien Finatdii and 65-year-old grandmother Nadien Katherzna from Kharkiv, Ukraine praised the Taiwanese students and Ukrainian volunteers who came to visit and care for them. Their remarks immediately dissolved the sense of unfamiliarity, and the atmosphere relaxed.

Tzu Chi Adds Community Learning Centers in Lumbini, Nepal
In 1997, UNESCO designated Lumbini in Nepal as a World Cultural Heritage Site. The local villagers have a low level of education, and most only complete middle school. Lumbini is the place where the Buddha was born around the year 563 B.C.

Tzu Chi Cleans up Hualien Schools Damaged by Earthquake
Volunteers from the Tzu Chi Foundation cleaned up seven schools severely damaged by the 0918 Earthquake. The seven primary and secondary schools were in towns of southern Hualien County. First, they were all converted to online teaching. On September 20th, more than 130 people were mobilized to go to Wu-Jiang Elementary School (WJES) and Wan-Ning Elementary School (WNES) and assist in cleaning and tidying up the school buildings. The volunteers also participated in an investigation of the disaster.
