Move Along. Now.

"The yellow! It burns!"
Jenny Steeves took this picture in Tokyo. She may have stood still for the photo, but I'm guessing she moved right along afterwards!

Let's Rearrange the World

Here's how: The citizens of the nation with the MOST people move to the nation with the LARGEST area! So since China has the most people, they all move to the biggest country: Russia!

And so on down the line. India moves to Canada, and— look! The United States stays put! That's interesting…and so is this awesome map.

Frank Jacobs has more information on this over at Big Think. Read it!

Why is everyone at that OTHER table?

The Audubon Society of Portland put on an event for authors and artists this weekend. But everyone kept running to the table behind me...

...which was where the famous and ultra-talented writer Ursula K. Le Guin was signing books!

Humph...well, I guess I can live with that. (After all, she signed books for me, too!)

Marble Run!

I've been staring in wonderment at the kinetic marble track that Steve Morse built in his son's bedroom. Now you can, too!

Here's the instructions for how he made it at Instructables.

Bitstrips!

Over at Bitstrips, the almighty Barlek has a comic strip up that credits me! (To see the gag, head on over to the site.)

While you consider doing so, don't forget that if you live in Portland, the Wild Arts Festival continues today...come on by!

The Audubon Society Is Most Auspicious!

Here in Portland, the Audubon Society is putting on the Wild Arts Festival this weekend. It's a chance to meet authors and artists, and also a good time to score some gifts for the holidays. (If you're NOT in Portland, consider supporting the Audubon Society. They do great work!)

This Reading Chair/Bookcase ROCKS!

No, really, it does rock back and forth. This reading chair/bookcase also has reading lights that adjust to the amount of brightness in the room. Designer Thomas Mills calls his creation the Long Form Library. (But I call it awesome!)

Here's a different view.

The Beauty of Rocky Butte

After picking up my brother, nephew, and niece from the airport, I took them to a view in Portland called Rocky Butte. There, we were briefly interviewed by a photographer from the Statesman Journal !
