Super Sad True Love Story

Remember this, Lenny; develop a sense of nostalgia for something, or you’ll never figure out what’s important.
As someone who left the country of his birth (the USSR) as a young boy, I am always nostalgic for something, without quite knowing what. I live blocks away from the high school that both I and Lenny Abramov attended, and every time I pass its front entrance I am filled with a flood of pleasant nostalgia. And yet, like most high schools, it wasn’t a particularly pleasant place overall. Friendship, along with romantic love, is one of the themes of this book, but it wasn’t until the pandemic year of 2020 when I began to reevaluate the utility of nostalgia, which led me to write Our Country

“If you are bored and disgusted by politics and don't bother to vote, you are in effect voting for the entrenched Establishments of the two major parties, who please rest assured are not dumb, and who are keenly aware that it is in their interests to keep you disgusted and bored and cynical and to give you every possible reason to stay at home doing one-hitters and watching MTV on primary day. By all means stay home if you want, but don't bullshit yourself that you're not voting. In reality, there is no such thing as not voting: you either vote by voting, or you vote by staying home and tacitly doubling the value of some Diehard's vote.”

“This book is dedicated to my brilliant and beautiful wife without whom I would be nothing. She always comforts and consoles, never complains or interferes, asks nothing, and endures all. She also writes my dedications.”

“Sneaking, Following & Escaping! I got in trouble the first time I went out on a mission. It was just myself and an agent named [name deleted]. As the two of us made dead drops, staked out enemy agents, and stopped for a quick shopping trip (I had a coupon for pickles!), I’d tweet our precise location. (I did this so my mother would know that her favorite child was safe.) But when [name deleted] found out what I was doing, she was NOT amused. She took away my iPhone, broke my Twitter account, and confiscated my pickle jar. Luckily, I had another coupon!”

Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you liked the book! As you can guess, knowing that a reader enjoyed a book is the best news an author can get, and that was a REALLY fun book to write, plus I got to work on it with my sisters and a bunch of former students. This made the experience extra-excellent. :)
All the best,
Bart King
