You Have Direct Access to God

God says that you are a priest. Depending on your background, that may be scary or confusing. Peter is saying that the two benefits that priests have are now available to everyone who is a believer.

In the Old Testament, priests did two things:

They had the right, privilege, and responsibility to go directly to God. They could pray and talk to God, worship, and fellowship with God. Everybody else had to go through a priest.
The priest had the privilege and responsibility of representing God to the people and ministering to the needs of other people (serving).

Those are the very two things that are true of you when you become a believer.

The Bible says that when Jesus died on the cross, there was a veil in the temple that separated the Holy of Holies, where God’s Spirit was, from where man was. Only priests could go behind that veil once a year. When Jesus died on the cross, God ripped that veil — about 70 feet — from top to bottom, symbolizing that there no longer was a barrier.

You now have direct access to God. You don’t have to pray through anybody else. You don’t have to confess through anybody else. You don’t have to fellowship with God through anybody else. Read your Bible, talk with the Lord, and fellowship directly with him.

You have also been gifted for ministry to serve other people. Every Christian is a minister — not a pastor, but a minister. Anytime you use your talents and gifts to help others, you are ministering.

“He saved us and chose us for his holy work not because we deserved it but because that was his plan long before the world began” (2 Timothy 1:9 TLB). Why did God save you? So you could serve him. A non-serving Christian is a contradiction.

How do you know what your ministry is? Look at your talents, gifts, and abilities. When you use those talents and gifts to help other people, that’s called ministry — nothing fancy or scary about it. It’s just helping others. Can you be a priest in a sales office? You bet you can. Can you be a priest as an accountant? Of course. Driving a truck? Sure. Anytime you’re helping other people in God’s name, you’re ministering.

Eres Aceptado Por Dios

“Pero ustedes son linaje escogido, real sacerdocio, nación santa, pueblo que pertenece a Dios, para que proclamen las obras maravillosas de aquel que los llamó de las tinieblas a su luz admirable.” 1 Pedro 2:9 (NVI)

La mayoría de nosotros gastamos nuestras vidas tratando de ganar aceptación. Queremos tenerla de nuestros padres, colegas, compañeros de vida, personas que respetamos, incluso de personas que envidiamos. El deseo de ser aceptados nos conduce a hacer toda clase de cosas. Puede influir en el tipo de ropa que usas, el tipo de auto que manejas, el tipo de casa que compras, y hasta la carrera que escoges.

¿Estás de acuerdo que la gente hace las cosas más locas con tal de ser aceptadas? Recuerdas de niño cuando querías tanto pertenecer a un grupo que alguien te decía, “Te reto a hacer esto”, ¿y tú hacías algo estúpido? Lo hiciste porque tu deseo de ser aceptado sobrepasaba el deseo de seguridad personal en tu vida. Cuando jugabas beisbol de niño y escogían los equipos, ¿recuerdas que bien se sentía ser escogido por el mejor jugador? ¿Recuerdas que mal se sentía cuando quedaban solo dos o tres niños y tú todavía no eras escogido?

Amamos el sentimiento de ser aceptados.

Ser escogido hace cosas tremendas por tu autoestima. 1 de Pedro 2:9 dice, “Pero ustedes son linaje escogido” (NVI). ¡Eso debe levantar tu autoestima! Cristo te ha aceptado – no basado en tu desempeño, algo que te hayas ganado, o algo que merezcas. Dios simplemente dice, “Yo te escojo”.

Puedes haber aceptado a Jesús en tu vida, pero ¿te has dado cuenta de que Cristo te ha aceptado? No necesitas ganártelo; no tienes que probarte nada a ti mismo.

“Aunque mi padre y mi madre me abandonen, tú, Señor, te harás cargo de mi” (Salmo 27:10 DHH). Tal vez tuviste padres a los que nunca pudiste complacer. No importa lo que hayas hecho, no fue suficiente. Si sacabas C, ellos querían B. Si sacabas B, ellos querían A. Si sacabas A, ellos querían solo A.

La tragedia es que algunos de ustedes el día de hoy están tratando todavía de obtener aprobación de sus padres. Están tratando de ganarse su aceptación, pero, con toda probabilidad, no obtendrás su aprobación si aún el día de hoy no las has obtenido porque es su problema. La buena noticia es esta: ¡No la necesitas para ser feliz! Hay más de 7 billones de personas en el mundo. Si no le gustas a dos personas, ¿A quién le importa? Como miembro de la familia de Dios, ¡has sido aceptado por Dios!

¿Cómo te afecta físicamente el querer ser aceptado por otros? ¿Qué tal emocional y espiritualmente?
¿Encuentras fácil o difícil aceptar la verdad de que has sido aceptado por Cristo? ¿Por qué?

You Are Accepted By God

Most of us spend our entire lives trying to earn acceptance. We want to earn it from our parents, peers, partners in life, people we respect, and even people we envy. The desire to be accepted drives us to do all kinds of things. It can influence the kind of clothes you wear, the kind of car you drive, the kind of house you buy, even the career you choose.

Would you agree that people do the craziest things to be accepted? Remember as a kid you wanted so badly to join the in-crowd that someone would say to you, “I dare you to do this,” and you did something stupid? You did it because your desire to be accepted overruled the desire for personal safety in your life. When you played baseball as a kid and teams were chosen, remember how great it felt to be picked by the better player? Remember how bad you felt when they got down to the last two or three and you still weren’t chosen?

We love the feeling of being accepted.

Being chosen does tremendous things for your self-esteem. First Peter 2:9 says, “You are a chosen people” (NIV). That ought to raise your self-esteem! Christ has accepted you — not based on your performance, something that you earned, or something that you deserve. God simply says, “I chose you.”

You may have accepted Jesus into your life, but have you ever realized that Christ has accepted you? You don’t have to earn it; you don’t have to prove yourself.

“Even if my mother and father abandon me, the Lord will take care of me” (Psalm 27:10 GW). Maybe you had parents whom you could never please. No matter what you did, it wasn’t good enough. If you got C’s, they wanted B’s. If you got B’s, they wanted A’s. If you got A’s, they wanted straight A’s.

The tragedy is that some of you today are still trying to prove yourself to your parents. You’re still trying to earn their acceptance, but, in all likelihood, you’re not going to get their approval if they haven’t given it to you by now because that’s their problem. The good news is this: You don’t need it to be happy! There are more than 7 billion people in the world. If two people don’t like you, who cares? As a part of God’s family, you have been accepted by God!

God’s Free Gift of Salvation Is Offered to Everyone

There are more than 7,000 promises in the Bible from God to you. They’re like blank checks just waiting on you to cash. And with every promise, there’s a premise.

In the Bible’s most famous promise, John 3:16, Jesus tells us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (NKJV). God promises we won’t perish if we believe in him.

God’s free gift of salvation is offered to everyone. It doesn’t matter your religion or cultural background. Jesus Christ died for you.

How do we receive this free gift?

The Bible says, “God says he will accept and acquit us — declare us ‘not guilty’ — if we trust Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, by coming to Christ, no matter who we are or what we have been like” (Romans 3:22 TLB).

Though anyone can acknowledge the existence of Jesus, the only way we can get to heaven is by placing our trust in him. You can’t trust Jesus unless you really know him.

It’s the difference between your head and your heart. Here’s an example to help explain that difference. I have the privilege of knowing many people, including some famous people. I know Bill Gates. We’ve spoken on the same platform together. I’ve sat on a couch and explained The PEACE Plan to him. I know Bill Gates, but I don’t really know him. He’s not a close personal friend, and I can’t say I really know what makes him tick.

But I do know my wife. We’ve been married for over 40 years. I know what makes her tick. I know the way she thinks. I know what she cares about.

When we talk about knowing God, it means having a real, living relationship with him. That’s what it means to trust God.

Dios Te Hace Nuevo

¡No tienes que permanecer igual! En la conversión, se nos da una nueva identidad. Mira a Jacob en el libro de Génesis. Una vez que Jacob confiesa su comportamiento manipulador, Dios le da una nueva identidad.

Observa que suceden tres cosas:

Dios le da a Jacob una nueva identidad (Génesis 32:28). Esencialmente, Dios dice: “Sé que lo has pecado. Sé que has conspirado, pero veo en ti un príncipe. Debajo de todos tus complejos emocionales, todas tus inseguridades, todas las cosas que no quieres que nadie más sepa, veo a un príncipe”. Dios te está diciendo eso hoy a ti: “Debajo de todos tus pecados y complejos, Veo una princesa/un príncipe. Puedes ser algo grandioso. Puedes ser para lo que te hice”.

Dios bendice a Jacob/Israel (Génesis 32:29). En el fondo, deseamos desesperadamente la bendición de Dios. Si queremos la bendición de Dios, debemos dar los pasos que Dios requiere de nosotros.

Dios deja cojeando a Jacob/Israel (Génesis 32:31). Recuerdas, cuando lucharon, Dios dislocó la cadera de Jacob. Jacob se fue cojeando y sirvió de recordatorio diario para depender de Dios.

Dios hace su trabajo más profundo en tu vida cuando trata con tu identidad: quién eres tú y cómo te ves a ti mismo. Siempre tenderás a actuar de acuerdo con tu forma de pensar sobre ti. Entonces Dios hace sus cambios más profundos en tu vida cambiando la forma en que te ves a ti mismo.

Él dice: “Déjame mostrarte cómo te veo“. Cuando te ves a ti mismo de la manera en que Dios te ve, va a cambiar tu vida.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Has estado pidiendo a Dios que te bendiga? Si es así, ¿cómo te has puesto a su disposición para escuchar sus instrucciones para que puedas dar los pasos que él requiere de ti?
¿Cómo te ves diferente cuando te ves a ti mismo a través del punto de vista de Dios?

God Makes You New

You don’t have to stay the same! In conversion, we’re given a new identity. Look at Jacob in the book of Genesis. Once Jacob confesses his manipulative behavior, God gives him a new identity.

Notice that three things happen:

God gives Jacob a brand new identity (Genesis 32:28). Essentially, God says, “I know you’ve blown it. I know you’re conniving, but I see in you a prince. Beneath all your emotional hang-ups, all your insecurities, all the stuff you don’t want anybody else to know, I see a prince.” God is saying that today to you: “Beneath all of your sins and hang-ups, I see a princess/prince. You can be something great. You can be what I made you to be.”

God blesses Jacob/Israel (Genesis 32:29). Deep down, we desperately want God’s blessing. If we want God’s blessing, we have to take the steps God requires of us.

God gave Jacob/Israel a limp (Genesis 32:31). Remember, when they wrestled, God dislocated Jacob’s hip. Jacob walked away with a limp, and it served as a daily reminder to depend upon God.

God does his deepest work in your life when he deals with your identity — who you are and the way you see yourself. You will always tend to act according to the way you think about yourself. So God does his deepest changes in your life by changing the way you see yourself.

He says, “Let me show you how I see you.” When you see yourself the way God sees you, it’s going to change your life.

El Gran Regalo de Dios

El regalo más grande que alguna vez te hayan dado no fue comprado en una tienda. No se intercambió dinero en efectivo. Ni siquiera estaba envuelto. Sin embargo, le costó todo al Dador.

La Biblia dice que Dios envió a su Hijo a la tierra para darte el mejor regalo de todos. Él vino a la Tierra para morir y para que pudieras estar en una relación correcta con Dios. Romanos 3:24-25 dice: “Sin embargo, Dios nos declara justos gratuita y bondadosamente por medio de Cristo Jesús, quien nos liberó del castigo de nuestros pecados. Pues Dios ofreció a Jesús como el sacrificio por el pecado”. (NTV).

Entonces, ¿por qué Jesús tuvo que morir? Volvamos a lo básico.

Nadie es perfecto. Nunca he conocido a una sola persona que haya afirmado ser perfecta. No estoy a la altura de mis propias expectativas, y mucho menos del estándar perfecto de Dios. Tampoco tú. Todos hemos pecado. La Biblia dice: “Por cuanto todos pecaron y están destituidos de la gloria de Dios”. (Romanos 3:23 RVC).
Dios es justo. Dios quiere ser justo. Cuando alguien viola una ley, debe haber una penalización por ello. Cuando rompes las leyes del hombre, pagas la pena del hombre. Cuando rompes las leyes de Dios, pagas las penalidades de Dios. La Biblia dice: “Porque la paga del pecado es muerte” (Romanos 6:23 RVC).
Jesús pagó el precio por nuestro pecado. La Biblia dice: “Dios hizo que Cristo, quien nunca pecó, fuera la ofrenda por nuestro pecado, para que nosotros pudiéramos estar en una relación correcta con Dios por medio de Cristo”. (2 Corintios 5:21 NTV). Jesús tomó mi pecado y tu pecado y todo el pecado que alguna vez se haya cometido. Esas son las buenas nuevas, el Evangelio. Jesús pagó el precio que nunca podrías pagar.
Acepta el obsequio de Dios. Dios nos dio un regalo gratuito de salvación cuando Jesús tomó nuestro pecado sobre sí mismo. Es un regalo que debemos recibir. La Biblia dice: “Mas a cuantos lo recibieron, a los que creen en su nombre, les dio el derecho de ser hijos de Dios”. (Juan 1:12 NVI).

¿Aceptarás el regalo gratuito de salvación de Dios? Una cosa es comprender los conceptos básicos de cómo tener una relación con Jesús. Otra cosa es aceptar el regalo.

Oro para que tomes esa decisión tan importante hoy.

Si estás listo para comprometer tu vida con Jesucristo, entonces haz esta oración:

“Querido Jesús, has prometido que, si creo en ti, todo lo que he hecho mal será perdonado, aprenderé el propósito de mi vida, y algún día me aceptarás en tu hogar eterno en el cielo.

Confieso mi pecado y creo que eres Dios, mi Salvador. Te recibo en mi vida como mi Señor. Hoy estoy poniendo cada parte de mi vida para que tú la dirijas. Tienes el derecho de tomar las decisiones en mi vida.

Jesús, quiero recibir el gran regalo de tu amor. Gracias porque no tengo que ganarlo, ni merecerlo, ni trabajar para él. Quiero usar el resto de mi vida para servirte en lugar de servirme a mí mismo. Humildemente entrego mi vida a ti y te pido que me salves y me aceptes en tu familia. En el Nombre de Jesús, oro. Amén.”\

¿Por qué es difícil aceptar gratuitamente un regalo extravagante?

God’s Great Gift

The greatest gift you’ve ever been given wasn’t bought in a store. No cash exchanged hands. It wasn’t even wrapped. Yet it cost the Giver everything.

The Bible says God sent his Son to earth to give you the greatest gift ever. He came to Earth to die and make you right with God. Romans 3:24–25 says, “Out of sheer generosity God put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we’re in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ. God sacrificed Jesus on the altar of the world to clear that world of sin” (The Message).

So why did Jesus have to die? Let’s go back to the basics.

Nobody’s perfect. I’ve never met a single person who has claimed to be perfect. I don’t measure up to my own expectations, much less God’s perfect standard. Neither do you. We’ve all blown it. The Bible says, “All of us have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory” (Romans 3:23 CEV).
God is just. God wants to be fair. When somebody breaks a law, there must be a penalty for it. When you break man’s laws, you pay man’s penalty. When you break God’s laws, you pay God’s penalties. The Bible says, “The payment for sin is death” (Romans 6:23 CEV).
Jesus paid the price for our sin. The Bible says, “God took the sinless Christ and poured into Him our sins. Then, in exchange, he poured God’s goodness into us” (2 Corinthians 5:21 TLB). Jesus took on my sin and your sin and all the sin that has ever been committed. That’s the good news, the Gospel. Jesus paid the price you could never pay.
Accept God’s free gift. God gave us a free gift of salvation when Jesus took our sin upon himself. It’s a gift we must receive. The Bible says, “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12 NIV).

Will you accept God’s free gift of salvation? It’s one thing to understand the basics of how to have a relationship with Jesus. It’s another to accept the gift.

I pray you will make that all-important decision today.

If you are ready to commit your life to Jesus Christ, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, you have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

I confess my sin, and I believe that you are God, my Savior. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today I’m turning over every part of my life to your management. You have the right to call the shots in my life.

Jesus, I want to receive the great gift of your love. Thank you that I don’t have to earn it or deserve it or work for it. I want to use the rest of my life to serve you rather than serving myself. I humbly commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Parado Firme en el Amor Extravagante de Dios

“Dios mostró cuánto nos ama al enviar a su único Hijo al mundo, para que tengamos vida eterna por medio de él. En esto consiste el amor verdadero. . . envió a su Hijo como sacrificio para quitar nuestros pecados”.

1 Juan 4:9–10 (NTV)

Todo en la vida cambia: relaciones, trabajos, fama. En un momento te sientes como un héroe; al minuto siguiente te sientes como un cero. Pero hay una cosa en el universo que nunca cambiará: el amor de Dios.

Sabiendo que Dios todavía te ama no importa lo que pase, tus fallas, tu quebrantamiento, tu pecado, proporcionan una base sólida como una roca en tu vida.

Considera la pequeña palabra “así” que va antes del “amor” en el versículo más famoso de la Biblia, Juan 3:16. El versículo dice, “Dios amó tanto al mundo…” (NVI).

Dios te ama con un amor extravagante y generoso que nunca se puede quitar. Está más allá de la comprensión. Él te ama en tus días buenos y en tus días malos. Él te ama cuando llueve y cuando el sol brilla.

Dios dice que no quiere que reconozcas este rico amor intelectualmente. Él quiere que lo reconozcas emocionalmente. El amor es la naturaleza de Dios. Dios creó el universo y todo lo que hay en él sin más motivo que el de poder amarlo. Y Dios te creó para que él pueda amarte.

De hecho, en Jesús, Dios nos muestra cómo es el verdadero amor, su amor. “Dios mostró cuánto nos ama al enviar a su único Hijo al mundo, para que tengamos vida eterna por medio de él. En esto consiste el amor verdadero. . . envió a su Hijo como sacrificio para quitar nuestros pecados” (1 Juan 4:9-10 NTV).

Mucha gente dice que ellos te aman, Dios te mostró cuanto Él te ama. Él te amó tanto que dolió. Él sacrificó a su Hijo. Cuando Jesús murió por ti, él decía que te amaba tanto que prefería morir antes que vivir sin ti.

Y la Biblia dice que es a lo que se parece el amor real, el tipo de amor sobre el que puedes construir tu vida. El verdadero amor hace sacrificios. El amor verdadero perdura hasta el final. El amor verdadero lo da todo.

Ese es el tipo de amor que solo Dios tiene para ti. Y él está esperando con los brazos abiertos para mostrarte.

¿Cuándo es más probable que dudes del amor de Dios?
¿Qué demuestra el amor sacrificado de Dios en Jesús al hablarte sobre cómo debes amar a los demás?

Standing Strong on God’s Extravagant Love

Everything in life changes—relationships, jobs, fame. One minute you feel like a hero; the next minute you feel like a zero. But there’s one thing in the universe that will never change: God’s love.

Knowing that God still loves you no matter what happens — your failures, your brokenness, your sin — provides a rock solid foundation in your life.

Consider the small word “so” that goes before “love” in the Bible’s most famous verse, John 3:16. The verse says, “God so loved the world . . . “ (NIV).

God loves you with an extravagant, lavish love that can never be taken away. It’s beyond comprehension. He loves you on your good days and your bad days. He loves you when it’s raining and when the sun is shining.

God says he doesn’t want you to just recognize this lavish love intellectually. He wants you to recognize it emotionally. Love is God’s nature. God created the universe and everything in it for no other reason than so he could love it. And God created you so he could love you.

In fact, in Jesus, God shows us what real love, his love, looks like. “God showed how much he loved us by sending his only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love . . . he sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins” (1 John 4:9–10 NLT).

Many people say they love you. God showed you how much he loves you. He loved you so much it hurt. He sacrificed his Son. When Jesus died for you, he was saying he loved you so much he’d rather die than live without you.

And the Bible says that’s what real love, the kind of love that you can build your life upon, looks like. Real love makes sacrifices. Real love endures to the end. Real love gives all.

That’s the kind of love only God has for you. And he’s waiting with open arms to show you.
