You Are Called to Be Free

God wants you to live in freedom. Let that sink in for a bit.

In fact, the Bible says, “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free” (Galatians 5:13 NIV). Freedom is your calling. God doesn’t want you to live a buttoned-down, constrained life. He wants you to have an abundant life.

Jesus says, “My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life” (John 10:10 NLT).

If you’re not living a full and satisfying life, it’s not because God doesn’t want you to have it. He wants to set you free from:

The pain from your past. This is the regret or resentment that keeps you from being all God wants you to be.
The pressures of your present. This is the stress or exhaustion you face trying to manage the complexities of everyday life.
The pessimism about tomorrow. These are the worries about your future or the futures of those you love.

God wants you to be free of all of that.

To do so, plug in to the power of Easter. God has made available to you the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead 2,000 years ago.

The Bible says, “I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead” (Ephesians 1:19-20 NLT).

The same power that blew the door off Jesus’ tomb will blow open the prison doors that hold you back.

Solo hay una Manera de ser Libre

 

“Yo soy la puerta; el que entre por esta puerta, que soy yo, será salvo” (Juan 10:9 NVI).

Vas a encontrar muchas puertas en tu vida. Encontrarás puertas a la felicidad, puertas de tristeza, puertas al éxito, y puertas al fracaso. Algunas puertas son trampas, y otras son oportunidades.

Tu éxito en la vida depende grandemente sobre cuales puertas decides cruzar. La Biblia tiene mucho que decir sobre estas puertas. De hecho, encontrarás la palabra puerta a través de la Biblia, a menudo usada como una metáfora para las oportunidades.

A menudo cruzamos las puertas equivocadas, o tal vez se nos pasan las buenas. Pero hay una puerta que no puedes darte el lujo de perderte: La puerta de la libertad.

La libertad es de gran importancia para Dios. Él no quiere que seas esclavo de la culpa, del resentimiento, del dolor, o de cualquier otra cosa. Él quiere que vivas libre.

La prisión más grande en la vida no es física. Son las prisiones mentales en tu mente. Tal vez es una relación en la que te sientes atrapado. Tal vez es la deuda de la que no puedes escapar. Tal vez es un hábito que no te puedes sacudir. Tal vez es una tradición que te detiene. Tal vez es un recuerdo doloroso que no puedes olvidar.

No importa en qué tipo de prisión estés, necesitas una salida. No puedes cruzar las puertas de oportunidad que Dios ha planeado para ti hasta que salgas de la prisión que te sujeta y es a través de la puerta de la libertad.

En Juan 10:9 Jesús dijo algo realmente importante sobre la puerta de la libertad: “Yo soy la puerta; si alguno entra por mí, será salvo;” (LBLA).

Jesús no solo quiere mostrarte la puerta de la libertad. Él es la puerta hacia la liberad. ¡Él es el único camino para vivir libre!

There Is Only One Way to Be Free

You’ll encounter lots of doors in your life. You’ll find doors to happiness, doors to sadness, doors to success, and doors to failure. Some doors are traps, and others are opportunities.

Your success in life largely depends on which doors you decide to walk through. The Bible has a lot to say about these doors. In fact, you’ll find the word door throughout the Bible, often used as a metaphor for opportunities.

We often go through the wrong doors, or maybe we miss the right ones. But there’s one door you just can’t afford to miss: the door to freedom.

Freedom is a big deal to God. He doesn’t want you enslaved to guilt, resentment, grief, or anything else. He wants you to live free.

The biggest prisons in life aren’t physical. They’re the mental prisons in your mind. Maybe it’s a relationship you feel trapped in. Maybe it’s debt that you can’t escape. Maybe it’s a habit you can’t seem to shake. Maybe it’s a tradition that holds you back. Maybe it’s a painful memory you can’t forget.

No matter what kind of prison you’re in, you need a way out. You can’t enter the doors of opportunity God has planned for you until you walk out of the prisons that hold you back and through the door to freedom.

In John 10:9, Jesus says something really important about the door of freedom: “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved” (NASB). 

Jesus doesn’t just want to show you the door to freedom. He is the door to that freedom. He is the only way to live free!

Two Ways the Holy Spirit Guides You

It may seem obvious, but one thing that can keep you from knowing God’s will is not asking him about it. James 4:2 says, “You do not have, because you do not ask” (ESV). God knows the details of your life more than you do. So engage your “guidance counselor” by asking specific questions. He will guide you through your circumstances and feelings.

Think about it: You don’t just have the guidebook, the Bible. You also have the author speaking in your ear. When you became a believer, God placed the Holy Spirit within you, and he’s been teaching you ever since to listen and respond to the Holy Spirit’s counsel. He knows every step of the journey and understands the blessings and dangers ahead. He knows where you’ve been and where you’re going, and he knows the best path to take.

The primary way the Holy Spirit guides you is by reminding you what you’ve read in the Bible. That’s why we memorize Scripture. It stores his Word in our minds, and the Holy Spirit helps us remember.

The other way God guides you is by impressions. God gave you a brain, and he wants you to use it. God will not control you; he’s given you free will. But he will give you an idea, and when you respond to it, he then begins to fill in the details.

When God gives you an idea, that’s called inspiration. When the Devil gives you an idea, that’s called temptation. When you need to know the difference, ask, “Teach me, Lord, what you want me to do, and lead me along a safe path” (Psalm 27:11 GNT).

Dos Maneras en que el Espíritu Santo te Guía

“Enséñame cómo vivir, oh Señor. Guíame por el camino correcto” (Salmo 27:11 NTV).

Puede parecer obvio, pero una cosa que puedes evitar que tú sepas la voluntad de Dios es simplemente no preguntarle al respecto. Santiago 4:2 dice: ” No tienen, porque no piden” (NVI). Dios conoce los detalles de tu vida más que tú. Así que contrata a tu “consejero de orientación” haciendo preguntas específicas. Él te guiará a través de tus circunstancias y sentimientos.

Piénsalo: no solo tienes la guía, la Biblia. También tienes al autor hablando en tu oído. Cuando te hiciste creyente, Dios colocó el Espíritu Santo dentro de ti y te ha estado enseñando desde entonces a escuchar y responder al consejo del Espíritu Santo. Él conoce cada paso del viaje y comprende las bendiciones y los peligros que se avecinan. Él sabe dónde has estado y adónde vas, y sabe cuál es el mejor camino por seguir.

La principal forma en que el Espíritu Santo te guía es recordándote lo que has leído en la Biblia. Es por eso que memorizamos las Escrituras. Almacena su Palabra en nuestras mentes, y el Espíritu Santo nos ayuda a recordar.

La otra manera en que Dios te guía es por medio de impresiones. Dios te dio un cerebro, y Él quiere que lo uses. Dios no te controlará; te ha dado el libre albedrío, pero Él te dará una idea, y cuando respondas, Él comenzará a completar los detalles.

Cuando Dios te da una idea, eso se llama inspiración. Cuando el Diablo te da una idea, eso se llama tentación. Cuando necesites saber la diferencia, pregunta: “Enséñame cómo vivir, oh Señor. Guíame por el camino correcto” (Salmo 27:11 NTV).

¿Qué técnicas de memorización de la Biblia usas? Si no estás memorizando ningún versículo, ¿de qué manera puedes comenzar esta semana?
¿Por qué crees que Dios quiere que respondas a su liderazgo antes de que completes todos los detalles de una impresión?
¿Qué es algo que necesitabas, pero no le pediste a Dios?

La Guía de Dios no te Dejará Confundido

 

“Te abriste camino a través del mar y tu sendero atravesó las poderosas aguas, ¡una senda que nadie sabía que estaba allí!” (Salmo 77:19 NTV).

Dios puede usar impresiones para hablarte. Él puede usar las circunstancias. Incluso puede usar el dolor. Él puede usar lo que quiera usar. Oswald Chambers dijo: “Dios es el Gran Ingeniero, creando circunstancias para crear momentos en nuestras vidas de importancia divina, lo que nos lleva a citas divinas”.

La Biblia dice que Dios trabaja activamente a través de nuestras circunstancias. Y así no podemos juzgar nuestra situación aparte de la sabiduría de Dios. En otras palabras, debemos dejar que Dios interprete nuestras circunstancias. Solo Él es capaz de comprender todos los hechos, y solo Él ve el significado de cada detalle. Por eso es tan importante que lo probemos todo por medio de su Palabra.

Si te sientes abrumado o confundido acerca de una decisión, puedes verte atrapado en ti mismo y no en la voz de Dios. La Biblia dice: “Dios no es un Dios de desorden sino de paz” (1 Corintios 14:33 NVI). Él no es el autor de la confusión. Así que, si te sientes confundido, ¿adivina qué? No es la voz de Dios hablando en tu vida.

Muchas veces nos enfrentamos a enormes barreras financieras, espirituales o físicas. Ahí es cuando necesitamos confesar: “Dios, hay montañas a cada lado y una barrera infranqueable frente a mí”. Y luego esperamos que Dios responda: “Te tengo exactamente donde quiero que estés. Mira esto”. Dios hará un camino donde parece que no hay manera.

El Salmo 77:19 dice: “Tu camino conducía a través del mar, tu camino a través de las aguas poderosas, ¡un camino que nadie sabía que estaba allí!” (NTV).

Cuando no sabes qué hacer, Dios te guiará. No te diseñó para que vivas la vida con tu propio ingenio y poder. No tienes que esperar que puedas resolver las cosas. Dios quiere guiarte por el camino correcto, y lo hará cuando te rindas a él y a su guía.

Cuando estás frustrado porque Dios no parece estar respondiendo a tu oración por guía, ¿qué crees que él quiere que hagas? ¿Qué has aprendido a través de ese tipo de experiencias en el pasado?
¿Cómo ha usado Dios tu dolor para mostrarte su propósito para tu vida?
¿Por qué crees que Dios nos permite llegar al punto donde parece que no hay forma de salir de una circunstancia difícil?

God’s Guidance Won’t Leave You Confused

God can use impressions to speak to you. He can use circumstances. He can even use pain. He can use whatever he wants to use. Oswald Chambers said, “God is the Great Engineer, creating circumstances to bring about moments in our lives of divine importance, leading us to divine appointments.”

The Bible says God actively works through our circumstances. And so we cannot judge our situation apart from God’s wisdom. In other words, we must leave it up to God to interpret our circumstances. Only he is capable of understanding all the facts, and only he sees the significance of every detail. That’s why it is so important that we test it all by his Word.

If you feel overwhelmed or confused about a decision, you might be caught up in yourself and not God’s voice. The Bible says, “God is not a God of disorder but of peace” (1 Corinthians 14:33 NIV). He is not the author of confusion. So if you’re feeling confused, guess what? It’s not God’s voice speaking in your life.

So many times we come up against enormous financial, spiritual, or physical barriers. That’s when we need to confess, “God, there are mountains on either side and an impassable barrier in front of me.” And then we wait for God to respond: “I’ve got you exactly where I want you to be. Watch this.” God will make a pathway where there seems to be no way.

Psalm 77:19 says, “Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters—a pathway no one knew was there!” (NLT).

When you don’t know what to do, God will guide you. He didn’t design you to go through life on your own ingenuity and power. You don’t have to just hope you can figure things out. God wants to lead you on the right path, and he will when you surrender to him and his guidance.

How to Show Love to a Demanding or Selfish Person

Love can be absolutely exhausting. Don’t let anyone fool you. The kind of love that really makes a difference in this world will zap everything out of you.

Sometimes you just don’t feel like you have any more love to give. Maybe you’re in a people-intensive job, such as teaching, sales, or customer service, and you come home and think, “I just can’t face another need, another problem, or another heartache.” So you shut down.

Or you need to show love to a particular person who is demanding, acts selfishly, and never returns your love. And you just think to yourself, “I’m done. No more.”

While that’s a perfectly natural and entirely human response, it’s not the standard of love God calls us to in the Bible. The Bible says, “Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance” (1 Corinthians 13:7 NLT). Love never gives up.

How can you have that kind of persistent love for another person? You get refueled.

When my kids were young, I remember taking the family to a nearby air show. It was so impressive to see how they would hook up a tanker to a jet in flight to refuel. I’ll never forget that.

But can you imagine someone flying a jet saying, “I don’t need to refuel”? The jet would crash and burn. On a long-distance flight, a jet has to refuel.

To give the kind of persistent love that God wants you to give, you have to refuel your love tank. Look around at society, and you’ll see it’s littered with debris from relationships that have crashed and burned because people didn’t refuel their love.

How do you refuel your love tank? You start by letting God love you. “We love because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19 NIV). When you’re worn out, tired, and unable to imagine showing love to anyone else, remember that God loved you so much that he sent his Son to die for you.

Now that’s real fuel. That’s what keeps you going when you want to quit.

Cómo Demostrar Amor a una Persona Egoísta o Exigente

 

“El amor nunca se da por vencido, jamás pierde la fe, siempre tiene esperanzas y se mantiene firme en toda circunstancia” 1 Corintios 13:7 (NTV)

El amor puede ser absolutamente agotador. Que nadie te engañe. El tipo de amor que hace realmente una diferencia en este mundo exprimirá todo de ti.

A veces sientes que ya no tienes más amor para dar. Quizás estés en un trabajo donde tienes una interacción intensa con personas, como la enseñanza, las ventas o el servicio al cliente, y regresas a casa y piensas, “Simplemente no puedo enfrentar otra necesidad, otro problema, otra angustia”. Así que te apagas.

O necesitas demostrar amor a otra persona que es demandante, actúa egoístamente y nunca devuelve tu amor. Y piensas para ti mismo, “Terminé. Ya no más”.

Aunque esa es una respuesta perfectamente natural y humana, no es el estándar del amor que Dios nos pide en la Biblia. La Biblia dice, “El amor nunca se da por vencido, jamás pierde la fe, siempre tiene esperanzas y se mantiene firme en toda circunstancia” 1 Corintios 13:7 (NTV). El amor nunca se da por vencido.

¿Cómo puedes tener esa clase de amor persistente hacia otra persona? Te recargas.

Cuando mis hijos eran pequeños, recuerdo que levé a la familia a ver un espectáculo aéreo. Era tan impresionante ver como se enganchaban en el aire un jet y un avión tanque para reabastecerse. Nunca lo voy a olvidar.

Pero ¿puedes imaginarte a alguien volando en un jet diciendo “Yo no necesito recargar combustible? El jet se estrellará e incendiará. En viajes de larga distancia, un jet necesita reabastecerse.

Para dar el tipo de amor persistente que Dios quiere que des, debes recargar tu tanque de amor. Mira a la sociedad alrededor tuyo, está llena de restos de relaciones que se estrellaron y se incendiaron porque las personas no recargaron su amor.

¿Cómo recargas tu tanque de amor? Comienza por dejar que Dios te ame. “Nosotros amamos porque él nos amó primero”. (1 Juan 4:19 NIV).  Cuando estés agotado, cansado e incapaz de imaginar de mostrar amor a alguien, recuerda que Dios te amó tanto que envió a su hijo a morir por ti.

Ahora, ese es combustible real. Eso es lo que te mantiene andando cuando quieres renunciar.

¿Qué decisiones puedes tomar esta semana que te ayudarán a recargarte y amar bien a otros?
¿Qué características del amor de Dios puedes ejemplificar?
Si perdiste la fe o te diste por vencido con alguien, ¿cómo puedes demostrar amor a esa persona hoy?

Bring Your Love and Work Together

The apostle Paul says, “Do all your work in love” (1 Corinthians 16:14 GNT).

He doesn’t say some of your work but all of your work. He also says that “no matter . . . what I do, I’m bankrupt without love” (1 Corinthians 13:3 The Message).

The point is that any job can be turned into worship when it is built on the foundation of Christ’s love. When that happens, his love is expressed through you to co-workers, clients, and customers. Mother Teresa said, “It’s not what you do so much that matters, but how much love you put into it.”

Think about it like this: Two-thirds of the word “career” is C-A-R-E. The English philanthropist John Ruskin once said, “When love and skill come together, expect a masterpiece.”

So I want you to pray a prayer every day this week—whether it’s at home or at school, in your backyard or your neighborhood, or wherever you work. I want you to pray, “Father, today I want to worship you through my work. I want to express my gifts. I want to do it as if I’m doing it for you, and I want to do it in love.”

“So then, my friends, because of God’s great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer” (Romans 12:1 GNT).
