When Love Is Your Motivation, There Is No Fear

“Wherever God's love is, there is no fear, because God’s perfect love drives out fear.”

1 John 4:18 (NCV)

A lot of people think the opposite of fear is faith. It’s not! The opposite of fear is love.

Love moves against fear. When love comes in the front door of your heart, fear goes out the back door. You can’t be afraid and loving at the same time—not with real love. When you have real love—God’s love—then you don’t have to fear.

People don’t run into a burning building to rescue children because of faith. They do it because of love. Parents will put their lives at risk to protect their families because they love their babies.

If love is the motivation of everything you do, then fear is going to disappear.

“Wherever God’s love is, there is no fear, because God’s perfect love drives out fear” (1 John 4:18 NCV).

When you start feeling fear rise up in you—maybe something you have to do is making you nervous—you need to pause at that moment. Then focus on how much God loves you. You may need to remind yourself out loud: “God, you really love me! You’re on my side. You want me to succeed in this. I’m going to do it in your strength and with your love.”

God doesn’t want you to fail. He wants you to succeed at what you’re doing in life and fulfill your purpose. When you focus on his love, you won’t be afraid. Perfect love casts out all fear!

When I speak in front of thousands of people every weekend, I’m not afraid. Why? Because I do two things: I focus on God’s love for me, and then I focus on my love for my church family. They are not an audience to be feared. They are a family to be loved. My love for them and for Jesus overcomes any fear I might have when I preach.

When you’re fearful, you’re focusing totally on yourself. That’s not love! When you’re loving, you’re focused not on yourself but on what other people need.

The more loving you are, the less fearful you are. So, if you make love your motivation for what you do, you’re not going to be afraid to do it.

Make love your motivation, and move against your fear.

Desarrollando los Ojos de la Fe – Paso Dos

“Cuando fuimos bautizados, también fuimos enterrados con Cristo y así compartimos su muerte para que así como Cristo resucitó por el gran poder del Padre, nosotros también andemos de acuerdo a la nueva vida”.  Romanos 6:4 (PDT)

Ayer, hablamos sobre desarrollar los ojos de fe. Cuando has nacido de nuevo, espiritualmente, Dios abre tus ojos espirituales, permitiendo que veas su trabajo alrededor tuyo y veas las muchas oportunidades que pone frente a ti.

Dios también abre tus oídos espirituales, para que seas capaz de escuchar lo que las personas en realidad están diciendo, en lugar de solo lo que crees que están diciendo. Cuando Jesús llegó a tu vida, Dios abrió todos los sentidos espirituales que te ayudan a ver desde su punto de vista.

Permíteme darte un ejemplo simple de cómo funciona esto. Tal vez hayas leído la Biblia, y hayas llegado a un versículo específico, que simplemente resaltaste y pensaste: “¡Vaya, nunca vi eso antes!” Aun cuando has leído ese versículo 15 veces, no habías visto esa verdad.

¿Qué sucedió? Simplemente Dios abrió tus ojos espirituales.

Ahora, como mencioné ayer, hay algunos pasos básicos que debes realizar para poder desarrollar los ojos de la fe y poder vivir una vida por fe. Necesitas vivir por fe o nunca serás capaz de completar el propósito que Dios ha planeado para ti.

Tu primer acto de fe es invitar a Jesús a tu vida —todas las “habitaciones” de tu vida. El segundo acto de fe que debes hacer es reconocer públicamente a Jesús. La mayoría de nosotros no entendemos la importancia del bautismo para el desarrollo de nuestra fe, pero es un paso vital que Dios usa para liberar su poder en nuestras vidas.

Jesús quiere que lo reconozcas públicamente, y Él nos enseña que eso es algo muy importante. Jesús lo dice en Marcos 8:38 que, si te avergüenzas de reconocerlo públicamente, Él se avergonzará de ti cuando regrese en gloria.

Eso es bastante fuerte. Pero es porque Jesús sabe realmente lo importante que es. La Biblia dice, “Cuando fuimos bautizados, también fuimos enterrados con Cristo y así compartimos su muerte para que, así como Cristo resucitó por el gran poder del Padre, nosotros también andemos de acuerdo a la nueva vida”  Romanos 6:4 (PDT). Así el poder vivir una nueva vida —siguiendo a Jesús para cumplir el propósito que te dio Dios. Eso se facilita por la obediencia que demostramos al ser bautizados.

Ahora entiende, el bautismo no te hace un miembro de la familia de Dios; sólo la fe en Cristo lo hace. Pero el bautismo muestra que eres parte de la familia de Dios. Es como el anillo de bodas, un recordatorio visible de un compromiso interno hecho en tu corazón.

No es algo que pospones hasta que estés espiritualmente maduro. La única condición bíblica es que creas. En el Nuevo Testamento, las personas eran bautizadas inmediatamente —tan pronto como creían. No se posponían los bautizos en el nuevo testamento.

Si no has sido bautizado como una expresión de tu fe en Cristo, se obediente a Jesús y se bautizado tan pronto como sea posible.

Don’t Let the Fear of Failure Hold You Back

“God did not give us a spirit that makes us afraid but a spirit of power and love and self-control.”

2 Timothy 1:7 (NCV)

Just three months after Kay and I got married, I had a total physical and mental breakdown and ended up in the hospital. I was filled with the fear of failure, and I thought my life was over—though I was just 21 years old. The psychiatrist at the hospital told me that I needed to take some time off.

So we went to my parents’ home in northern California, where I continued to feel like a total failure. I thought I couldn’t handle anything. Everything made me upset and nervous.

Then one night I had a dream that—because of all the tension from my feelings of failure—felt evil. I woke up in a cold sweat. As I was lying there in bed, breathing fast, I heard the phone ring. My mom picked it up. The guy on the phone said, “Is this the house where Rick Warren is? Could I talk to him?”

When I picked up the phone, the man said, “Rick, you don’t know me. We’ve never met. How I got this number doesn’t really matter. But I live in San Diego, and God told me to call you and give you this verse: ‘God did not give us a spirit that makes us afraid but a spirit of power and love and self-control’ [2 Timothy 1:7 NCV]. And, Rick, you have a right in Jesus Christ to a sound mind.” And then he hung up.

You don’t think God uses people like that? Well, he does. It could have been an angel, but it didn’t have to be. Maybe God just said to a man: “Call that guy.” And, in obedience, he did.

I held on to that verse during that year of depression when I thought I was such a failure, even though my life had barely even started. But God wasn’t done with me, and he’s done many things in my life since then.

God is not done with you either. It doesn’t matter what you’ve been through. I’m sorry for all the pain you may have experienced, but you cannot let fear hold you back. Push yourself to trust God in everything you do. Then live in faith and love.

Desarrollando los Ojos de la Fe – Paso Uno

“Los que creen en el Hijo de Dios tienen vida eterna”. Juan 3:36a (NTV)

Vivir para la gloria de Dios requerirá un cambio en tus prioridades, tu agenda, tus relaciones y todo lo demás.

Pero primero, debes invitar a Jesús a cada habitación de tu vida. Tu corazón es como una casa con muchas habitaciones, tienes dormitorio, cocina, sala, oficina. Tienes todas estas habitaciones para las diferentes áreas de tu vida.

Cualquier habitación que esté llena de preocupación y temor es una habitación a la que no has invitado a Jesús. Por ejemplo, es posible que no hayas invitado a Jesús a la sala o puede que no lo hayas invitado al cuarto de finanzas o puede que no lo hayas invitado a tu dormitorio o a la oficina.

Donde sea que estés preocupado, significa que Jesús no está en esa habitación porque cuando Jesús entra en una habitación, la llena de paz. Entonces tus preocupaciones y tus temores te dicen las áreas de tu vida que no están bajo el control de Jesucristo.

Esto es importante porque Jesús dice que debes invitarlo a tu vida, a las habitaciones de tu corazón, para ver la vida tal como es, a fin de ver el Reino de Dios (Juan 3:36). Para seguir a Jesús, debemos decidir si viviremos para nosotros o para Dios.

Puedes dudar, preguntándote si tendrás fortaleza para vivir para Dios. Esa es otra cosa de la que no debes preocuparte. Dios te dará lo que necesitas si simplemente decides vivir para Él. La Biblia dice, “Como todas las cosas que pertenecen a la vida y a la piedad nos han sido dadas por su divino poder, mediante el conocimiento de aquel que nos llamó por su gloria y excelencia” 2 Pedro 1:3 (RVR1960).

Honestamente, ahora es el momento de decidir sobre este tema. Crees que Dios te ama y te hizo para sus propósitos. Crees que fuiste hecho para durar para siempre. Crees que no importa lo que hayas hecho, Dios quiere perdonarte.

Recibe a Jesús en tu vida como tu Señor y Salvador. Recibe Su perdón por todos tus pecados. Recibe Su Espíritu, que te dará el poder de ver con los ojos de la fe y para cumplir el propósito de tu vida. La Biblia dice, “Los que creen en el Hijo de Dios tienen vida eterna” Juan 3:36 (NTV).

Te invito a que inclines tu rostro y hagas esta oración que cambiará tu eternidad: “Jesús, creo en ti y te recibo en mi corazón”.

Continúa orando,

“Querido Dios, admito que tengo temor, pero quiero llegar a conocerte. No lo entiendo todo, pero agradezco que me ames. Te agradezco que hayas estado conmigo incluso cuando no te reconocía. Te agradezco que siempre estés para mí. Gracias por no  enviar a tu hijo Jesús para condenarme, sino para salvarme”.

“Admito que nunca me di cuenta que necesitaba un Salvador, pero hoy quiero recibir el regalo de la salvación. Confieso que he pecado, hice cosas que no querías que hiciera. Te agradezco por enviar a tu hijo Jesús para salvarme de todos mis pecados. Sé que Él murió por mí y que su sangre me limpiará de todos mis pecados. Te pido que me salves de mis remordimientos y errores. Necesito que quites de mí el estrés y me llenes con tu amor. Necesito estar en paz contigo y necesito que pongas tu paz en mi corazón”.

“Deseo saber para qué me has puesto en la tierra. Y quiero cumplir con el propósito para el cual me creaste. Quiero aprender a amarte, confiar en ti y tener una relación contigo. Oro esto en el nombre de Jesús, amén”.

Why We Don’t Give Up

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”

Galatians 6:9 (NLT)

If you want to be a righteous woman or man of God, then you have to learn how to be resilient. That means when you stumble—and it’s guaranteed that you will—you get back up.

A lot of factors beyond your control can cause you to fail. But if you get back up, who knows what positive things might happen. History books are filled with stories of people who failed again and again, but they did not give up until they succeeded.

General George Washington lost two-thirds of all the battles he fought against the British in the American Revolution. He kept retreating because he didn’t have the manpower to take on the British army. But he didn’t give up! He eventually won the war, became the first president of the United States, and is considered the father of the country.

Napoleon dominated continental Europe as Emperor of France. But earlier in his life he had graduated 42nd in a class of 43 people. He wasn’t the smartest student, but he is regarded as a military genius and his methods are still studied in many schools.

Albert Einstein, one of the greatest scientists of all time, didn’t say a single word until he was more than four years old. He did so poorly in school that, at age 16, he failed to pass the entrance exam for the Swiss Polytechnic School. Still, he went on to reinvent science and math.

Babe Ruth was one of the best baseball players ever. He hit 714 home runs in his career, a record that stood for almost 40 years. But he also struck out 1,330 times. For years, Ruth held the records both for most home runs and for the most strike outs.

I don’t hold up any of these men as examples for godly living. But they accomplished much in the eyes of the world because they didn’t give up. Imagine what God can do with righteous women and men who keep moving forward and working for whatever God has called them to.

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up” (Galatians 6:9 NLT).

Keep going, and don’t let your failure be final. You never know what God can do through you!

Para obtener el Poder de Dios, dale tu Confianza

“Todo lo puedo en Cristo que me fortalece”. Filipenses 4:13 (NVI)

Una buena relación con Jesús es fundamental para cada área de tu vida.

A través de una relación segura con Jesús, puedes crecer y cambiar en formas que son imposibles sin ella. En verdad, no podemos lograr nada sin Dios: “Todo lo puedo en Cristo que me fortalece” Filipenses 4:13 (NVI).

El desafío puede parecer imposible cuando hacemos un cambio importante en nuestras vidas. Por supuesto, ¡es imposible cuando tratamos de hacerlo por nuestra cuenta! Pero la fortaleza de Dios trabajando a través de nuestra fe convertirá lo imposible en posible.

Es por eso que se necesita fe en lo que Dios quiere que hagas. Nunca podrás hacerlo por tu cuenta. ¡Nunca se pretendió que pudieras! Cualquier cosa que puedas hacer con tu propia fuerza no requiere fe, y cuando no se requiere fe, estamos viviendo sin fe.

Cuando vienes a Cristo reconociendo tus debilidades, a menudo Él convierte tu mayor debilidad en tu mayor fortaleza. Pero eso solo sucede a través del poder de Dios. La Biblia nos dice que hay una conexión directa entre la fe y el poder. Mientras más fe tengas en Dios, más poder y más bendiciones tendrás en tu vida.

Jesús lo ilustra en Mateo 13, cuando hace una visita a su ciudad natal, Nazaret. La Biblia dice que Jesús no hizo muchos milagros de poder en su pueblo debido a la falta de fe de la gente.

Dios bendice a las personas que no tienen miedo de confiar plenamente en Él. Cuando le das tu confianza, Dios te llena con su poder. En la Biblia, Abraham es considerado el padre de la fe. Dice: “Ante la promesa de Dios no vaciló como un incrédulo, sino que se reafirmó en su fe y dio gloria a Dios” Romanos 4:20 (NVI).

Sin el poder de Dios en tu vida, estás corriendo con tu propia energía. Y eso es como tener una computadora portátil que está desconectada; la batería eventualmente se agotará y toda la potencia se habrá ido. ¿Por qué tienes que vivir así?

Piénsalo de esta manera: tienes una pequeña batería en ti. Puedes correr por la vida con tu propio poder, lo que significa que estarás cansado todo el tiempo o puedes tener acceso a la planta de energía de Dios, siempre que te conectes y admitas que necesitas Su ayuda.

Dios tiene un poder ilimitado para sostener tu vida y tu misión.

God Promises to Meet All Your Needs

“I want you to have the good that comes from giving . . . My God will use his wonderful riches in Christ Jesus to give you everything you need.”

Philippians 4:17, 19 (NCV)

God promises in the Bible that if you learn to give like him, then he will meet all your needs.

Does that sound too good to be true? Maybe it does. But if the Bible says it, then you can believe it! God says that if you’ll put him first in your money and learn to be generous, open-handed, and open-hearted, then he will meet all your needs.

Paul says in Philippians 4:17 and 19, “I want you to have the good that comes from giving . . . My God will use his wonderful riches in Christ Jesus to give you everything you need” (NCV).

God promises to meet all your need—not all your greed. There is a difference, of course, in what you really need and what you sometimes think you need. Thankfully, God knows the difference. He loves you, and he wants to make sure you lack nothing—emotionally, physically, spiritually, and mentally. But he also wants to make sure you learn to be like him, and he is generous.

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 9:7, “You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. ‘For God loves a person who gives cheerfully’” (NLT).

Nobody should tell you what to give. What’s generous for you is your decision. God loves it when you give because you want to, out of love for him and a desire to be like him.

People often say, “Give till it hurts.” No! Give till it feels good! Give till it becomes joyful. Don’t give reluctantly. Don’t give under pressure. God loves a cheerful giver.

That’s the premise. Now, here’s the promise: “And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others” (2 Corinthians 9:8 NLT).

God has not allowed any wiggle room for himself in this promise. He doesn’t have to! He is able to provide everything you need and more. He is waiting to see you giving cheerfully, generously, and spontaneously—from the heart.

Enfócate en la Fe, no en los Sentimientos

“Desnudo salí del vientre de mi madre, y desnudo he de partir. El Señor ha dado; el Señor ha quitado. ¡Bendito sea el nombre del Señor!”. Job 1:21 (NVI)

Cuando eres un bebé cristiano, Dios te da muchas emociones que refuerzan y confirman tu nueva fe y a menudo responde las oraciones más inmaduras y egocéntricas, para que sepas que Él existe. Pero a medida que creces en la fe, Él te apartará de esta dependencia.

Dios quiere que percibas Su presencia, pero está más interesado en que confíes en Él que en sentirle. La fe es lo que realmente le importa a Dios, no lo que sentimos.

Las situaciones que aumentarán tu fe serán aquellos momentos en que la vida se derrumba y Dios parece no estar en ninguna parte. Esto le sucedió a Job. En un solo día perdió todo: su familia, su negocio, su salud y todo lo que poseía. Lo más desalentador para Job fue que durante 37 capítulos de la Biblia, ¡Dios no dijo nada!¿Cómo alabas a Dios cuando no entiendes lo que está sucediendo en tu vida y Dios está en silencio? ¿Cómo permaneces conectado en una crisis en la que no hay comunicación? ¿Cómo mantienes tus ojos en Jesús cuando están llenos de lágrimas? Haz lo que Job hizo —se postró en el suelo en adoración y dijo: “Desnudo salí del vientre de mi madre, y desnudo he de partir. El Señor ha dado; el Señor ha quitado. ¡Bendito sea el nombre del Señor!” Job 1:21 (NVI).

Dile a Dios exactamente cómo te sientes. Derrama tu corazón ante Él. Descarga todas las emociones que sientes. Job hizo esto cuando dijo: “Por eso no puedo quedarme callado. En mi dolor y mi amargura voy a dar rienda suelta a mis quejas” Job 7:11 (DHH).

Él gritó cuando Dios parecía distante: “¡Qué días aquellos, cuando yo estaba en mi apogeo y Dios bendecía mi casa con su íntima amistad!” Job 29:4 (NVI).

God Will Never Let You Go

“For I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t, and life can’t. The angels won’t, and all the powers of hell itself cannot keep God’s love away. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, or where we are—high above the sky, or in the deepest ocean—nothing will ever be able to separate us from the love of God demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ when he died for us.”

Romans 8:38-39 (TLB)

No matter how bad life gets, you can rest in one important truth: God won’t stop loving you.

You’ll have things go right. You’ll have things go wrong. But God’s love will never end—you can count on that.

That truth should be one of the most important sources of joy in your life!

The Bible says it like this in Romans 8:38-39: “For I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t, and life can’t. The angels won’t, and all the powers of hell itself cannot keep God’s love away. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, or where we are—high above the sky, or in the deepest ocean—nothing will ever be able to separate us from the love of God demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ when he died for us” (TLB).

That’s good news. When you put your hand in God’s hand, he grabs it and won’t let go. God holds on to you with all he has.

When my kids were little, we went to the Grand Canyon. When we walked up to the edge, I grabbed the hands of my two youngest children, Josh and Matthew. Of course, they wanted to get closer to the edge than I wanted them to get. They tried to squirm and shake free, but I wouldn’t let go. I was their father, and I loved them.

You’ll have times in your life when you’ll want to let go of God’s hand. You’ll want to give up your commitment to Christ when times get tough.

But God won’t let go of you—ever. Once you put your hand in his, it’s there to stay.

If you could earn your salvation by working for it, you could lose it the moment you stopped working for it. But you didn’t earn your relationship to God. It was a free gift. Once it has been given, it can’t be taken back.

That’s an unimaginable source of joy for the believer.

La Verdadera Fe es Activa, Nunca Pasiva

“¡Qué tontería! ¿Acaso no te das cuenta de que la fe sin buenas acciones es inútil?”. Santiago 2:20 (NTV)

¿Es la fe simplemente un estado de ánimo? Algunos lo ven de esa manera, un atributo pasivo de un cristiano esperando a ver lo que Dios va a hacer. Ya sea en una promoción, cáncer, depresión, traición, bendición, abundancia o injusticia. Ellos podrían decir, “Sólo esperaré por lo que Dios va a hacer por mí e iré con la corriente”. Pero esas son palabras tontas.

La fe es activa. No es pasiva. Es un compromiso. Mira tu estilo de vida y la clase de acciones que le siguen como resultado de esta. Si tienes una fe que es real, se puede demostrar.

Si has sido bautizado, hiciste una declaración ante Dios y las personas a tu alrededor. Dijiste, “¡Soy parte de la familia!” Pero no se detiene en el bautismo, ¿Qué harás? Comienzas siguiendo el ejemplo de Jesús. La fe es probada por cómo vivimos. Y no mal interpretes esto. Tu salvación no está basada en tus obras. Las cosas que haces, tu caminar, tu vida cotidiana, no te llevarán al cielo. Tus acciones no te hacen ser un cristiano. Mostrarán que eres un cristiano.

Aquí están algunos pasos que puedes tomar con tu fe:

Celebrar el espléndido don de la gracia. Fuiste salvo porque Jesús te ama y quiere que estés con Él en el cielo. ¡Celebra eso!
Mostrar tu fe. Los anillos de boda no hacen a las personas casadas, pero las declaran de forma visible. De la misma manera, el bautismo no es lo que te llevará al cielo, pero es un acto de obediencia. (Jesús nos mandó a ser bautizados y a bautizar a otros)


Compartir tu fe con las personas que te rodean. Si estás entusiasmado con lo que Dios ha hecho en tu vida, entonces ¿por qué no compartirlo? Hay muchas maneras de hacerlo. Conéctate al servicio de Dios. Literalmente hay millones de posibilidades. Dirige las personas a Jesús y ámalos como Jesús lo hizo. Es una opción que traerá gozo eterno —a ti y a las personas que llevaste a Cristo.
