Only God Can Meet All Your Needs

“You don't have what you want because you don't ask God for it.”

James 4:2 (NLT)

One of the biggest causes of quarreling in your family, with your friends, or at your work is that you expect people to fill needs in your life that only God can fulfill. This is often most obvious in marriage, but it’s true in every relationship. You find people you can trust and who know you well. So you start looking to them to keep you emotionally and spiritually fulfilled.

It’s common for people to get married and think their spouse should and will meet all their needs. After all, you complete each other, right? But that’s just unrealistic, unfair, and only setting you up for massive frustration? Your spouse is not God. Your best friend is not God. Your co-workers are not God. None of them know you like God does. None of them can provide for you like he can. They are broken human beings, just like you!

It’s time to change your expectations so your frustration doesn’t lead to more conflict and quarreling in your relationships.

So, what should you do instead of looking to someone else to fulfill every emotional, spiritual, and physical need you have? You should pray about it.

“You don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it” (James 4:2 NLT).

When you expect other people to meet your needs instead of God, it leads to frustration. And frustration leads to quarreling. If you’re not praying and asking God to provide for your needs, then you’re going to spend more time quarreling. If you’re not praying about it, you’re fighting over it. You don’t have because you haven’t asked God for it!

If you have a need, don’t look first to your spouse or your friend to fill it. Go to God first. He already knows what you need, and he’s ready to give it to you. You just have to ask.

La Fe produce Persistencia

“Por todos lados nos presionan las dificultades, pero no nos aplastan. Estamos perplejos, pero no caemos en la desesperación. Somos perseguidos, pero nunca abandonados por Dios. Somos derribados, pero no destruidos”.  2 Corintios 4:8-9 (NTV)

La fe desata las promesas de Dios, nos muestra el poder de Dios, convierte los sueños en realidad y nos da el poder para fortalecernos en tiempos difíciles.

Dios no siempre te saca del problema. Él hace crecer tu fe para llevarte a través del problema. Él no siempre te quita el dolor. Él te da la capacidad de llenarte de fe para que puedas manejar el dolor. Y Dios no siempre te saca de la tormenta porque Él quiere que confiemos en Él en medio de la tormenta.

Recuerdo haber leído las historias de Corrie Ten Boom, una joven cristiana holandesa que ayudó a muchos judíos a escapar del Holocausto antes de ser enviados a campos de concentración nazis. Terminada la Segunda Guerra Mundial, dijo que la gente que sobrevivió en esos campamentos, fueron aquellos que tenían la fe más profunda. ¿Por qué? Porque la fe te da el poder de fortalecerte en tiempos difíciles. Produce persistencia.

Estudio tras estudio ha mostrado que probablemente la característica más importante que le puedas enseñar a un niño (y que tú necesitas en tu propia vida) es la resiliencia. Es la capacidad de recuperarse. Es la capacidad para seguir adelante. Nadie va por la vida con una cadena ininterrumpida de éxitos. Todo el mundo tiene fallas y errores. Todos nos avergonzamos a nosotros mismos. Todos tenemos dolor. Todos tenemos problemas. Todos tenemos presiones. Las personas que logran cosas en la vida, tienen la capacidad de recuperarse y continuar.

¿Sabes cuántas veces he querido renunciar como pastor en la Iglesia de Saddleback? ¡Cada lunes por la mañana! Digo, “Dios es demasiado grande. Es demasiada gente, es demasiada responsabilidad. Yo no soy lo suficientemente inteligente. ¿Qué debo decirle a la gente? Consigue a alguien que pueda hacer un mejor trabajo que este”.

Sin embargo, Dios dice: “Continúa”.

¿Dónde conseguir la resistencia para seguir adelante? En la fe. Fe es creer que Dios puede hacer algo en cualquier momento, que podría cambiar el rumbo de tu vida, y tú no quieres perdértelo, así que sigues adelante. Es creer que Dios te dará exactamente lo que tú necesitas cuando lo necesitas, mientras aprendes a confiar en Él para lograr su propósito en ti.

Este es el testimonio de Pablo, un gran hombre de fe: “Por todos lados nos presionan las dificultades, pero no nos aplastan. Estamos perplejos, pero no caemos en la desesperación. Somos perseguidos, pero nunca abandonados por Dios. Somos derribados, pero no destruidos”  2 Corintios 4:8-9 (NTV).

Who Controls Your Future?

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

Romans 8:28 (NLT)

One of the great fears you face in this life is the fear of the future. You fear for the future of your family, your friends, your job, your community—and everything else in between.

It’s natural. You’re not in control. But that realization should drive you to trust God more deeply.

You might not be in control of your future, but God is. He created the whole universe. If he wanted to, the Lord could just snap it out of existence in a moment. Yet he is working his plan in history. He is moving history to a climax, a destiny. One day Jesus Christ will come back to Earth. Nothing will stop that.

Just as God is working in history to move events toward a particular moment, he will work in your life for a purpose, too—if you’ll let him.

The Bible says, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them” (Romans 8:28 NLT).

God’s Word doesn’t say that everything is good. It also doesn’t say that God causes everything. He doesn’t cause war. He doesn’t cause cancer. He doesn’t cause rape, abuse, or molestation. He doesn’t cause evil. People do that. God gives people the freedom to choose. Evil is the price of that freedom.

But the Bible does say that God causes everything to work together for good. He can take the dumb, evil, and bad decisions you’ve made in your life and use them for good if you’ll trust him. Romans 8:28 isn’t a promise for everyone, though. It’s for “those who love God.” It’s for those who trust God and say, “Here, Lord, you take all the broken pieces of my life and put them together.”

This is why, when I read the headlines each day, I don’t worry. Sure, there are a lot of problems in the world today, but God is still in control. God is still moving history to a climax. And God is still moving his people toward his best for them. One day God will work everything out for his purpose.

Because God is in control, you can trust him with everything—including the good, the bad, and the ugly of your life.

God’s Love Is the Answer to Your Fears

When you know that God will never stop loving you, you can let go of your fears. He is in control, and he has your best interest in mind. He will never abandon you.

You don’t have to earn God’s love or work your way into heaven. The Bible says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).

The Bible says you can only get to heaven by trusting in God through his Son, Jesus Christ.

If you haven’t trusted in Jesus and committed to following him, why wait any longer? If you’re ready to step across that line and make a decision to believe in Jesus Christ and follow him, pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, you have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. You have promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today I’m turning over every part of my life to you. I want to live my life the way you want me to.

“Jesus, I want to relax in your love. Thank you that I don’t have to earn it or work for it. I want to use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I humbly commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In your name I pray. Amen.”

Lo que la Fe le hace a tus Sueños

“ Por el poder de Dios que obra en nosotros, él puede hacer mucho más de lo que jamás podríamos pedir o imaginar ”.  Efesios 3:20 (PDT)

La fe convierte los sueños dados por Dios en una realidad. ¡No pasa nada hasta que alguien comience a soñar!

La Biblia está llena de personas que tuvieron sueños dados por Dios. Abraham soñó con ser el padre de una gran nación. Moisés soñó con liberar al pueblo de Dios. José soñó con salvar a una nación y a su propia familia. A lo largo de las Escrituras, hay todo tipo de personas que fueron soñadores inspirados, como Daniel, Pablo y David.

Efesios 3:20 dice: “Por el poder de Dios que obra en nosotros, él puede hacer mucho más de lo que jamás podríamos pedir o imaginar” (PDT).

Ahora, si alguna vez hubo un versículo que fuera un “cheque en blanco” en la Biblia, este es. Dios puede hacer mucho más de lo que jamás podríamos pedir o imaginar. ¿Tienes miedo de pedirle a Dios? Él puede hacer mucho más de lo que podrías soñar.

No sé ustedes, pero yo soy un gran soñador. Puedo recordar algunos grandes sueños que tuve en mi vida. Dios dice: “Warren, piensa en lo más grande que puedas soñar, lo mejor que crees que puedo hacer en tu vida. ¿Adivina qué? Yo puedo superar eso”.

Si hubiera lágrimas en el cielo, sería simplemente porque al llegar allí, nos diéramos cuenta de todas las cosas que podríamos haber hecho si hubiéramos creído un poco más en Dios. ¡Para mí eso sería el infierno! El infierno sería para mí ver todo lo que podría haber logrado siendo mejor esposo, padre, amigo y pastor si hubiera creído un poco más en Dios.

Pero no hay lágrimas en el Cielo, y Dios te da todo lo que necesitas en este momento para completar lo que Él ha planeado para ti. Te desafío a soñar en grande con tus relaciones, tu matrimonio, tu familia, tu carrera y tu servicio hacia los demás. Tu fe puede convertir esos sueños en realidad, porque Dios puede hacer mucho más de lo que nosotros nos atrevemos a pedirle e incluso soñar.

Plan for Tomorrow but Live for Today

“Don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

Matthew 6:34 (NLT)

The good thing about the future is that it doesn’t hit you all at once. If you had your entire life thrown at you at one time, it would no doubt be overwhelming. So God gives it to you in bite-size, 24-hour segments.

Since God gives you only one day at a time, that’s how he expects you to approach your life. Live one day at a time, and make it count.

Jesus taught: “Don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today” (Matthew 6:34 NLT).

Jesus is saying to stop borrowing trouble. If there’s something happening next week, why are you messing up today by worrying about it?

Worry can’t change the past. It can’t control the future. Worry only makes you miserable today.

God gives you all the grace you need—but just enough for today, every day. He doesn’t stockpile all that power in your life and give it to you for the next week or month. He says to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread.” He wants you to take life one day at a time.

When you don’t know what the future holds, you can still take life one day at a time. That’s all you are meant to do!

When everything is uncertain and you don’t know how to make wise decisions for the future, then just take care of today. God doesn’t want you to worry about tomorrow, but he also doesn’t want you to presume about it, either. It’s important to plan, pray, and trust God for the future. But God still expects you to put your energy into making today count.

A great way to do this, especially during the pandemic, is to reduce your media intake. Focus instead on the things God loves and cares about, like your spiritual growth and caring for people who need help right now. That’s how you make the day count.

“Don’t brashly announce what you’re going to do tomorrow; you don’t know the first thing about tomorrow” (Proverbs 27:1 The Message). When everything else in life seems unclear, this is about as clear as you can get.

Plan for tomorrow but live for today. God will give you everything you need to be obedient in both.

Tu Fe puede mover Montañas

“Tengan fe en Dios. Les digo la verdad, ustedes pueden decir a esta montaña: ‘Levántate y échate al mar’, y sucederá; pero deben creer de verdad que ocurrirá y no tener ninguna duda en el corazón. Les digo, ustedes pueden orar por cualquier cosa y si creen que la han recibido, será suya”.  Marcos 11:22-24 (NTV)

La fe abre la puerta a los milagros. Si estudias la Biblia y la historia, encontrarás que cada vez que Dios se mueve en la tierra y hace un milagro, es porque alguien creyó.

Jesús lo dijo en Marcos 11:22-24, “Tengan fe en Dios. Les digo la verdad, ustedes pueden decir a esta montaña: ‘Levántate y échate al mar’, y sucederá; pero deben creer de verdad que ocurrirá y no tener ninguna duda en el corazón. Les digo, ustedes pueden orar por cualquier cosa y si creen que la han recibido, será suya” (NTV). ¡La fe puede mover montañas!

Dios ha configurado el universo en una jerarquía de leyes y la ley de la fe es actualmente la ley más grande que la ley de la naturaleza. Ahí es donde vienen los milagros. Porque cuando se usa la fe, la ley de la fe entra en práctica y la ley de la fe puede en realidad hacer más que las leyes de la física.

¿Dios sigue haciendo milagros hoy? Por supuesto que lo hace. Cada vez que ejercitas tu fe, Dios hace milagros. Mi pregunta para ti es: ¿Cuál es la montaña que necesita ser movida en tu vida? ¿Cuál es la cosa que has decidido que nunca cambiará? Pero, ¿cómo sabes que no cambiará? Tal vez Dios quiere que tu fe sustituya la ley de la naturaleza. Él lo ha hecho en el pasado y Él lo está haciendo hoy en todo el mundo. Dios está en el negocio de mover montañas. No dudes o subestimes lo que Él quiere hacer en tu vida.

Mateo 13:58 dice, “Y por la incredulidad de ellos, no hizo allí muchos milagros” (NVI).

Podrás decir, “no veo muchos milagros en mi vida”. Cómo contestarías esta pregunta: ¿Estás viendo con los ojos del temor, o está viendo con los ojos de la fe? La fe abre la puerta a los milagros.

You Can Still Make Plans in a Pandemic

“If you want to know what God wants you to do, ask him, and he will gladly tell you, for he is always ready to give a bountiful supply of wisdom to all who ask him.”

James 1:5 (TLB)

There’s nothing wrong with planning, even during the uncertain days of a pandemic. But if you want God’s blessing on your plans, it’s important to include him in your planning.

The book of James gives us a promise when it comes to planning. It says, “If you want to know what God wants you to do, ask him, and he will gladly tell you, for he is always ready to give a bountiful supply of wisdom to all who ask him” (James 1:5 TLB).

God promises he’ll give you wisdom as you plan. You just have to ask.

This is part of humbling yourself before God. You don’t have to wonder what he wants you to do with your life. You just have to pray about it! God is always ready to give you the wisdom you need to make good plans.

We’re living in a unique time, and you might feel like most areas of your life are in limbo. You may feel like you can’t make any plans or that you’re stuck in a temporary situation. Maybe you haven’t even made any plans because your one goal is just to get through this pandemic.

But, as the pandemic stretches on, you don’t want to waste these weeks and months! It may feel like time is standing still, but God’s purposes are always moving forward. I don’t want you to miss being part of them.

While there are many things during this pandemic that you can’t control, there many things that you do have control over. I challenge you to set aside an hour this week to prayerfully make a plan for the rest of this year. It can be a plan for your spiritual growth, family, ministry, finances, or career. Whatever you want to talk to God about, make it a time to seek God’s wisdom and set some goals.

You can start by praying, “Lord, what do you want me to do for the rest of this year? What do you want me to do with my life? What is your will, God? Please give me your wisdom so that I can serve you well and fulfill my purpose.”

Confía un Día a la Vez

“No se preocupen por nada; en cambio, oren por todo. Díganle a Dios lo que necesitan y denle gracias por todo lo que él ha hecho.… Concéntrense en todo lo que es verdadero, todo lo honorable, todo lo justo, todo lo puro, todo lo bello y todo lo admirable. Piensen en cosas excelentes y dignas de alabanza”. Filipenses 4:6, 8b (NTV)

Dios quiere que confíes en Él un día a la vez: “Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día”.

No para la próxima semana. No para el próximo año. No para el próximo mes. Sólo un día a la vez.

Filipenses 4:6 y 8, nos enseña que hay cuatro cosas que debes hacer para confiar en Dios diariamente: “No se preocupen por nada; en cambio, oren por todo. Díganle a Dios lo que necesitan y denle gracias por todo lo que él ha hecho… Concéntrense en todo lo que es verdadero, todo lo honorable, todo lo justo, todo lo puro, todo lo bello y todo lo admirable. Piensen en cosas excelentes y dignas de alabanza” (NTV).

No te preocupes por nada.

¿Por qué la preocupación es algo tan perjudicial? Porque no es tan solo un mal hábito, ¡también es un pecado! Pero Dios cumple sus promesas y puedes confiar que Él cuidará de ti “Así que no se preocupen por el mañana, porque el día de mañana traerá sus propias preocupaciones” Mateo 6:34 (NTV).
Ora por todo.

La oración puede cambiar las cosas. Romanos 8:32 dice, “Si Dios no se guardó ni a su propio Hijo, sino que lo entregó por todos nosotros, ¿no nos dará también todo lo demás?” (NTV). Dios resolvió tu problema más grande —entrar en el Cielo— cuando envió a Jesús a morir por ti. Si Dios te amaba lo suficiente como para enviar a Jesús a morir por ti, ¿no crees que Él te ama lo suficiente como para cuidar de todos los otros problemas?
Agradece a Dios en todas las cosas.

No importa lo que pase, da las gracias. La Biblia no dice: “en todas las cosas den gracias”. Dice: “denle gracias por todo“. No tienes que estar agradecidos por las cosas malas de tu vida. Nunca debes estar agradecido por el mal. No tienes que estar agradecido por el cáncer o un accidente de carro, la guerra o el abuso. Sino que Dios dice denle gracias por todo. ¿Por qué? Porque sabes que Dios va a cuidar de ti. Sabes que va a satisfacer tus necesidades. Sabes que Dios va a ayudarte.
Piensa en las cosas correctas.

Dios nos da una lista de cosas sobre las cuales pensar, cosas que son verdaderas, honorables, correctas, puras, bellas, admirables, excelentes y dignas de alabanza. ¿Dónde se encuentran las cosas que son puras y admirables en que pensar? ¿En el cine? No lo creo. ¿En TV? No. Sólo encontrarás pensamientos puros, hermosos y honorables en la Palabra de Dios. Necesitas leer, estudiar, memorizar y llenar tu mente con la Palabra de Dios.

Isaías 26:3 dice “¡Tú guardarás en perfecta paz a todos los que confían en ti; a todos los que concentran en ti sus pensamientos!” (NTV).

Before You Judge, Listen in Love

“According to our Law we cannot condemn people before hearing them and finding out what they have done.”

John 7:51 (GNT)

It’s hard to be judgmental when you’re trying to listen with compassion, honesty, sincerity, and fairness. James 1:19 says, “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry” (NIV). Listen first before you judge.

One time the Pharisees were trying to judge Jesus without letting him have a say or explain himself. They didn’t want to hear his side of the story. But Nicodemus, one of the Pharisees, spoke up and said, “According to our Law we cannot condemn people before hearing them and finding out what they have done” (John 7:51 GNT).

How many times have you judged someone—your child, your spouse, your neighbor, your enemy—without listening to their story first? Have you found yourself treating someone the same way the Pharisees treated Jesus?

When you feel the urge to judge someone, stop and take a breath. Hold that breath if you need to—if that’s what it takes for you to listen before you speak! If you don’t listen first, you are committing the sin of judging others.

Do you think something needs to come to light in someone’s life? That thing probably is not yours to expose. Let God take care of it. Your job is to listen first. Try to understand before judging someone’s struggle.

Jesus said, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you” (Matthew 7:1-2 NIV).

Do to others as you would have them do to you. Listen in love, and let God be the judge.

Levanta tu Bandera Blanca

“Confía en el Señor con todo tu corazón; no dependas de tu propio entendimiento. Busca su voluntad en todo lo que hagas, y él te mostrará cuál camino tomar”. Proverbios 3:5-6 (NTV)

La entrega significa dejarle el futuro a Dios. Proverbios 3:5-6 dice: “Confía en el Señor con todo tu corazón; no dependas de tu propio entendimiento. Busca su voluntad en todo lo que hagas, y él te mostrará cuál camino tomar” (NTV).

¿Qué área de tu vida no le has entregado a Dios? Has entregado la cocina y la sala. Pero ¿qué pasa con el dormitorio de tu vida? ¿Qué pasa con el armario de tu vida? ¿Qué hay del garaje de tu vida? ¿Qué área de tu vida no has entregado?

Algunos de ustedes no han entregado su vida sexual. Tú dices: “Sé que Dios dice que el sexo es sólo para el matrimonio, pero voy a hacerlo a mi manera”. Por eso es que estás bajo estrés.

Algunos de ustedes no han entregado sus finanzas a Dios. “Sé que Dios dice que debo devolverle el 10 por ciento, pero no puedo pagar el diezmo”. Y por eso estás bajo estrés.

Algunos de ustedes no han entregado sus relaciones a Dios. “Sé que debería perdonar a esa persona que me lastimó, pero no voy a perdonarlo”. Es por eso que estás bajo estrés.

Algunos de ustedes tienen un pecado secreto que no se lo han entregado a Dios. Tienes un hábito que no le has entregado a Dios. Tienes un dolor o un complejo que no le has entregado a Dios.

Algunos de ustedes nunca han entregado su vida a Jesucristo. Nunca te has rendido para ser bautizado. No has encontrado una familia en la iglesia.

La entrega es levantar la bandera blanca y decir, “Dios, la guerra se acabó. No voy a pelear más contigo. Quiero serenidad, no estrés”.

¿Estás cansado de estar en guerra con Dios? Yo creo que sí. La entrega es la máxima expresión de fe.
