You’ll Never Get to the End of God’s Love

“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.”

John 10:28 (NIV)

When I took my kids to the Grand Canyon when they were young, my two boys were especially wiggly. I held on to their hands as we walked up to the edge, and they wanted to let go. There was no way I was letting go of their hands! As their father, I loved them too much to let them go.

After you put your hand in God’s hand, there will be times you’re going to want to let go. But no matter how your feelings or circumstances change, God is steady, sure, and faithful. When you become a Christian, he promises to keep you saved until heaven.

Jesus said, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:28 NIV).

There have been times in my life when I have said, “God, it’s not convenient to be a follower of Jesus right now. I’d like to let go for a little bit.” God says, “Well, you might want to let go of me, but I’m not letting go of you. You are in my hand, and no one can snatch you out.”

I had a person tell me one time, “Well, you can’t be snatched out of God’s hand, but you can jump out.”

How big do you think God’s hand is? Do you think it’s so small that you can get to the edge of it? His hands are bigger than the universe. You’ll never get to the edge of God’s hands. You’ll never get to the end of God’s love.

Once you are born again, you can’t be unborn. Once your name is written in the eternal book of life, it’s written in indelible ink and the blood of Christ. Once you’re saved, you are always saved.

You don’t know what your future holds or how many years you’ve got left. You might lose everything, but you are never losing your salvation. The world could go mad, but you have a loving Father who is working things out for good.

You can have all the confidence in the world with the assurance that the One who holds you in his hand is never letting you go.

Tu Integridad muestra tu Fidelidad

“El que es honrado en lo poco también lo será en lo mucho; y el que no es íntegro en lo poco tampoco lo será en lo mucho”. Lucas 16:10 (NVI)

Un dicho común hoy en día es “lo que haces en tu vida privada no es asunto de nadie más”. Bueno, en realidad lo es, lo que haces a solas, a puerta cerrada o fuera de la vista de otras personas, revela tu verdadero carácter y Dios lo ve tan claramente como las cosas que haces en público.

De hecho, las cosas pequeñas que haces a solas son las semillas de la bendición pública de Dios en tu vida. No puedes decir: “tengo integridad en mi vida pública, pero no en mi vida privada”. De seguro que podrías hacer una lista ahora mismo de figuras públicas que han intentado vivir de esta manera, solo para tener sus indiscreciones hechas en lo privado y evitar convertirse en escándalo público o destrucción personal.

No importa lo que las personas digan, cualquier líder que no sea fiel en asuntos pequeños no será fiel en asuntos importantes.

Jesús dice, “El que es honrado en lo poco también lo será en lo mucho; y el que no es íntegro en lo poco tampoco lo será en lo mucho” Lucas 16:10 (NVI). 

Durante siglos, todos los que aprendieron una destreza o vocación, la adquirieron a través de un aprendizaje. Si querías ser un mecánico, te convertías en aprendiz de otro mecánico y trabajabas en su taller antes de empezar un taller propio.

Este principio de aprendizaje se aplica a cada área de tu vida, aplica a cómo manejas el dinero de otras personas, cómo manejas las posesiones de otras personas, e incluso cómo manejas el ministerio de otras personas antes de que Dios te dé el tuyo.

Antes de que Dios me diera mi propio ministerio, yo serví como pastor de jóvenes bajo el ministerio de otro pastor. Dios estaba observando cómo lo estaba haciendo; estaba probando mi integridad. Yo necesitaba demostrar mi fidelidad en ese ministerio antes de que Dios me permitiera dirigir el ministerio de la Iglesia Saddleback.

Si alguien te presta un automóvil, ¿qué tan bien lo cuidas? Si una familia te permite quedarte en su casa de vacaciones, ¿la cuidas tan bien como cuidas tu propia casa? Dios está mirando y probando tu integridad. Y Él te recompensará de acuerdo a como lo hagas.

If You Want to Live, Give Your Life Away

“God is fair; he will not forget the work you did and the love you showed for him by helping his people. And he will remember that you are still helping them.”

Hebrews 6:10 (NCV)

We’re all given the same number of minutes in a day. And we’re all given the same goal—to become more like Jesus.

If I were to describe Jesus in one word, it would be this: unselfish. So, for you and me, the whole goal of life is learning how to become more and more unselfish, because to be unselfish is love—and Jesus is love.

“God is fair; he will not forget the work you did and the love you showed for him by helping his people. And he will remember that you are still helping them” (Hebrews 6:10 NCV). 

Our reward in heaven is going to be based on what we did here on earth. One day, we’re all going to stand before God, and he’s going to say, “What did you do with what you were given?” Do you want to say, “Well, I made a lot of money, retired, and died”?

You were put on earth for more than that! Instead, live unselfishly and give yourself away for others and the Kingdom of God. Then you will be able to say to God, “I gave it all, Lord. I’m laid bare. Everything I have and am, I gave it away for the Gospel.”

One of the most significant things you can do with your life is to give it away—to be generous with what you’ve been given, including your money, resources, time, and talent. God says clearly that when there is no service or generosity, there will be no reward in heaven. Is that how you want your time on earth to end?

Make your time on earth count for eternity. Help people come to know Christ, discover their purpose for life, grow in their maturity, find their ministry, and serve in their mission in the world.

When you give your life away, life takes on new meaning, new joy, and new excitement.

When you give your life away, you begin to fully live.

Haz el Bien a aquellos que se Oponen a Ti

“Amen a sus enemigos, hagan bien a quienes los odian, bendigan a quienes los maldicen, oren por quienes los maltratan. Si alguien te pega en una mejilla, vuélvele también la otra. Si alguien te quita la camisa, no le impidas que se lleve también la capa”.  Lucas 6:27-29 (NVI)

Cuando eres perseguido, acosado o enfrentas oposición, necesitas responder con una bendición.

Jesús dice en Lucas 6:27-29, “Amen a sus enemigos, hagan bien a quienes los odian, bendigan a quienes los maldicen, oren por quienes los maltratan. Si alguien te pega en una mejilla, vuélvele también la otra. Si alguien te quita la camisa, no le impidas que se lleve también la capa” (NVI).

¿Quién hace eso? No muchos, realmente. Eso es lo que distingue a los cristianos, porque no es una respuesta natural, popular o fácil.

¡Toma mucho valor hacerlo! Cualquier tonto puede responder el golpe, cualquiera puede devolver con ofensa. Cualquiera puede reaccionar. Cualquiera puede responder con maldad.

Dios quiere que ames a tus enemigos, que hagas el bien a los que te odian, a los que te maldicen, que ores por los que te lastiman, y pongas la otra mejilla. ¿Es fácil? No. Solo puedes hacerlo al estar lleno del amor de Dios. Pero es la forma más ponderosa de testimonio.

En la película ‘El mayordomo’, vemos cómo los que luchan contra el racismo y la segregación en el Sur, durante el Movimiento por los Derechos Civiles, entrenan a las personas a cómo no responder cuando son golpeados, escupidos, maldecidos y les tiran comida. Es una poderosa escena sobre tomar una postura de no violencia.

Mientras miraba esa escena, me caían las lágrimas. Pensé, “quiero ser ese tipo de persona por Jesús.  Quiero ser así de valiente.  Quiero tener ese corazón valiente que no va a caer en lo que es malo, no importa lo que me hagan. Y quiero responder con amor”.

Cuando te niegas a tomar represalia y en lugar de eso respondes con amor en el trabajo o con alguien al que no le caes bien, Dios estará complacido. Y tú vas a ser bendecido.

“Dios los bendice a ustedes cuando la gente les hace burla y los persigue y miente acerca de ustedes y dice toda clase de cosas malas en su contra porque son mis seguidores.  ¡Alégrense! ¡Estén contentos, porque les espera una gran recompensa en el cielo! Y recuerden que a los antiguos profetas los persiguieron de la misma manera” Mateo 5: 11-12 (NTV).

Jesús pagó un precio por ti. Dice que hay un precio que pagar por seguirlo a Él. La popularidad en esta tierra no es una de las garantías de ser cristiano, pero tu recompensa en el cielo está garantizada.

God of Love, God of Justice

“Never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.’”

Romans 12:19 (ESV)

Life is not fair. God never said it would be!

Life is unfair because there is sin in the world. Jesus came to make things right, and, one day, they will be. But, right now, sometimes bad people prosper. Sometimes good people suffer. Sometimes innocent people get hurt.

If you have been discriminated against because of your race, culture, language, or gender, if you’ve been abused, if you have been harassed or mistreated—that breaks my heart, and I am sorry for your hurt.

We should do whatever we can to correct injustice. But there’s something even more important than the way I feel about it. It’s the way God feels about it. God has seen every hurt in your life, and he grieves over injustice, too.

When somebody asks me, “Where was God when your son died?” I say, “He was at the same place he was when his Son died—grieving over man’s inhumanity to humanity.”

So why didn’t he stop it? God could stop all the evil in the world just like that. But it would mean taking away our freedom to choose.

God may not stop a hurt from happening, but God is keeping a record. Not only that, but he’s “storing up your tears in a bottle” (Psalm 56:8). The Bible also says, “Never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord’” (Romans 12:19 ESV).

Because God is loving, he is also a God of justice. To allow evil to hurt his children and not seek justice would be unloving.

Since God seeks justice, you don’t have to spend your life holding on to hurts. In fact, God doesn’t want you to waste one second of your life on resentment, retaliation, or revenge. That’s just going to fill you with the poison of bitterness. Don’t waste your life on bitterness!

Some of you are allowing people who hurt you 10 years ago to still hurt you today because you’re holding on to the memory of that hurt. That’s foolish! They can only hurt you when you choose to hold on to the hurt. You have to let it go.

Justice delayed is not justice denied. God is very aware of what people have done to you, and there will be a day of reckoning.

Do you trust him? If you do, you’ll let it go. Surrender your hurt to Jesus, and let him settle the score.

Como permanecer Fiel cuando estás Sufriendo

“Los que sufren según la voluntad de Dios, entréguense a su fiel Creador y sigan practicando el bien”.  1 Pedro 4:19 (NVI)

Hay personas que dicen que Dios quiere que todos sean millonarios. Hay personas que piensan que seguir a Dios es como tener un boleto dorado que garantiza que serás un millonario, que nunca tendrás cáncer y que jamás tendrás ningún problema en tu vida.

Pero la Biblia dice que algunas veces el sufrimiento es la voluntad de Dios para tu vida. ¿Por qué? Porque eso te hace más como Jesús. Incrementa tu fe. Te dará tu recompensa en el cielo. Edifica tu carácter. Te enseña a adorar en lugar de preocuparte.

Hay tres tipos de sufrimiento en el mundo. El sufrimiento común es el sufrimiento que es universal —no importa si eres bautista o budista o musulmán o ateo o lo que sea. Todos sufren ciertas cosas. Cuando un huracán llega a la ciudad, no solo afecta a los cristianos. Hay sufrimiento en el mundo que todos compartimos en común.

El segundo tipo de sufrimiento es el sufrimiento carnal. Ese sufrimiento que te provocas solo por tu propio pecado. Si yo elijo vivir una vida inmoral, una de las consecuencias podría ser una enfermedad de transmisión sexual. Mis elecciones tienen consecuencias, así que, es mi culpa, no es la culpa de Dios, no es la culpa de nadie más. Si gasto más dinero del que gano y me endeudo y quedo en bancarrota, es también mi culpa. Yo sufro a causa de mis pecados y malas decisiones.

No todo el sufrimiento es por el pecado. La Biblia dice que algunas veces el sufrimiento se debe a la voluntad de Dios, porque Dios está más interesado en tu carácter que en tu comodidad.

La Biblia dice en 1 Pedro 4:19 “los que sufren según la voluntad de Dios, entréguense a su fiel Creador y sigan practicando el bien” (NVI).

No importa que flechas te sean lanzadas, no importa lo que sufras en esta vida a causa de tu fe, Dios quiere que te mantengas fiel a Él y sigas haciendo bien a otros. ¿Es fácil hacer eso? No siempre. ¿Requiere fe? Definitivamente. ¿Vale la pena? Absolutamente, porque Dios te está guiando a ser más como Jesús.

How to Get the Help You Need for Today

“When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up—the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord your God.”

Isaiah 43:2-3 (TLB)

When you became a Christian, did you expect life to suddenly be perfect?

If you did, I bet you found out pretty quickly that there are all kinds of trials for Christians—including relational, financial, physical, and mental. Some people expect life to be heaven on earth. But this is not heaven!

We pray for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven—because then it would be done perfectly.

But on earth, God’s will is seldom done. Everything on this planet is broken. The weather, the economy, our bodies, and our relationships don’t always work right. We can be sure that, because of sin, bad things will happen.

We can also be assured of God’s promises to support us in all the trouble we will face on this earth.

“When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up—the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord your God” (Isaiah 43:2-3 TLB).

When you go through deep waters and rivers of difficulty, God doesn’t promise that you won’t get wet. You’re going to go through some problems that have pain. You’re going to get wet. But God does promise that you’re not going to drown. When you go through the fire, it’s going to get hot. But God promises that you’re not going to burn up. You’re going to make it through.

Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace]” (AMP). That doesn’t mean that you can do anything because of who you are. It means you can have confidence in whatever trouble life brings because you face it with the power of Christ in you.

You may not feel very strong right now. But the strength you need will come when you need it. The Bible doesn’t say to ask God for your weekly or monthly bread. It says to pray, “God, give me my daily bread. I need just enough strength for today.”

God will support you in your trouble. He always gives you the strength you need for today.

¿Quién es la Verdadera Fuente de la Oposición?

“ Humildemente, debe corregir a los adversarios, con la esperanza de que Dios les conceda el arrepentimiento para conocer la verdad, de modo que se despierten y escapen de la trampa en que el diablo los tiene cautivos, sumisos a su voluntad”.   2 Timoteo 2:25-26 (NVI)

Cuando enfrentas oposición a causa de tu fe, necesitas reconocer la fuente de esa oposición.

No son otras personas, no son tus compañeros de trabajo, no es un partido político, no es alguna otra nación o religión, no es un competidor. La presión que sientes para cavar o estar quieto o sentarte cuando deberías estar de pie —esa presión no está viniendo de otras personas, en realidad viene de Satanás.

En Apocalipsis 12:10 Satanás es llamado “el acusador de nuestros hermanos”. Su trabajo principal es hacerte caer.

Hay una guerra invisible llevándose a cabo a tu alrededor. Esta presión que te está deteniendo de hacer las cosas correctas no viene en realidad de otras personas. Las personas son simplemente armas. La mayoría del tiempo ni siquiera saben que están siendo usadas. El verdadero problema es la guerra espiritual.

Efesios 6:12 dice, “Pues no luchamos contra enemigos de carne y hueso, sino contra gobernadores malignos y autoridades del mundo invisible, contra fuerzas poderosas de este mundo tenebroso y contra espíritus malignos de los lugares celestiales” (NTV).

Satanás sabe que es tonto atacar a Jesucristo directamente, así que, en su lugar, el ataca a los que le siguen. Satanás usa los medios, la música, la cultura popular y cualquier cosa que pueda para ridiculizar a aquellos que siguen a Jesús. Él está detrás de las voces diciendo, “Esos cristianos son obsoletos. Están del lado equivocado de la historia. No saben de lo que están hablando. Son fanáticos”. 

Esto es lo que la Biblia te dice que es lo que debes hacer: “Humildemente, debe corregir a los adversarios, con la esperanza de que Dios les conceda el arrepentimiento para conocer la verdad, de modo que se despierten y escapen de la trampa en que el diablo los tiene cautivos, sumisos a su voluntad”  2 Timoteo 2:25-26 (NVI).

Si no tienes al Espíritu Santo en tu vida, no tienes defensa en contra de Satanás. Satanás puede controlar tu ánimo. Satanás puede llevarte a la depresión. Satanás puede hacerte enojar.

Puedes creer que eres fuerte, pero no eres suficientemente fuerte para resistir los ataques de Satanás por tus propios medios. Lo que necesitas hacer es reconocer la fuente —Satanás, no la persona— y la amenaza de la oposición, como Jesús lo hizo.

¿Cómo trató Jesús a quienes se oponían a Él? Aún en la cruz Él dijo, “Padre, perdónalos, porque no saben lo que hacen”.

Las personas que te atacan no saben lo que están haciendo. ¿Las personas que critican a Jesús, a la iglesia y al cristianismo? No saben lo que están haciendo.

Necesitas orar, también, “Padre, perdónalos”, para que puedas mostrar amor aun cuando estás siendo atacado. Dios te llenará con su amor, y tendrás más energía para luchar contra el verdadero enemigo.

How Should Christians Measure Success?

“Without faith it is impossible to please God.”

Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

I would rather attempt to do something great with my life and fail than attempt to do nothing with my life and succeed.

Yet, that’s where most people are! They’re drifting through life. They have no goals. They’re not aiming for the moon because they’re so afraid they’re just going to hit the fencepost. People have forgotten or never understood that failure is not the same as being unable to do something. Failure is being unwilling to try.

When Kay and I first started Saddleback 40 years ago, I told my family many times that “At least he tried” were the four words I wanted written on my tombstone. The jury was still out on whether or not our little church would last.

I had a great goal and vision. And even if I never reached it, I wanted it to be known that I at least tried. I can’t put that on my tombstone today because the plan worked, by God’s grace. But in the early days of a project or business or ministry, it’s okay for you to say, “At least I tried.”

That is faith. You move forward in spite of your fears. The Bible says in Matthew 9:29, “According to your faith let it be done to you” (NIV). When you move forward and show God you’re willing to trust him with the unknown, you are choosing how much God will bless your life.

Life is a marathon. People do not run a marathon to get first place. Only one person out of the thousands running can get first place. They run a marathon to finish and be able to say, “I did it. I tried!”

You’re not going to be number one in most things in life, and neither am I. What really matters is this: Did you finish the race, or did you quit too soon and coast for the latter part of your life? Did you run hard and fast for Jesus Christ until the day he took you home?

Hebrews 11:6 says, “Without faith it is impossible to please God” (NIV). Faith means you try. You set a goal, take risks, and work hard. Whether or not you reach your goal or challenge is irrelevant.

When you attempt something for the glory of God, you can’t be considered a failure, no matter what happens. If you’re doing something in faith, then you’re already a success.

Siempre es Demasiado Pronto para Renunciar

“Es por esto que nunca nos damos por vencidos. Aunque nuestro cuerpo está muriéndose, nuestro espíritu va renovándose cada día. Pues nuestras dificultades actuales son pequeñas y no durarán mucho tiempo. Sin embargo, ¡nos producen una gloria que durará para siempre y que es de mucho más peso que las dificultades!”.  2 Corintios 4:16-17 (NTV)

La diferencia entre personas fieles e infieles es que las personas fieles no se rinden a la primera señal de las dificultades. Ellos siguen y siguen. Las personas fieles son determinadas. Las personas fieles son diligentes. Las personas fieles son persistentes. Las personas fieles no saben cómo renunciar. ¿Sabes cómo una pequeña semilla se convierte en un roble? Un roble es solo una semilla que rehusó rendirse.

No soy tan inteligente, pero si sé una cosa: siempre es demasiado pronto para rendirse. Nunca fallarás hasta que renuncies y siempre es demasiado pronto para rendirse. Dios usa los tiempos difíciles para probar tu persistencia.

Cuando comenzamos Saddleback, prediqué el primer sermón a una persona: mi esposa. Ella pensó que duró mucho. ¡Cuarenta años después, ella sigue diciendo que mis sermones son muy largos!

Yo pensé cuando comenzamos la iglesia que tendríamos un edificio pronto. Duramos quince años sin un edificio. En los primeros trece años de la iglesia Saddleback, usamos 19 instalaciones diferentes. ¿Sabes cuantas veces he sentido ganas de rendirme? ¡Casi cada lunes por la mañana! Pero yo no sé cómo renunciar. Y Dios dijo, “Rick, si nunca le doy a la iglesia un edificio, ¿me seguirías sirviendo?” y dije: “¡Absolutamente!”.

Saddleback creció a más de diez mil personas antes de que pudiéramos construir nuestro primer edificio. ¿Te gustaría levantar y quitar una carpa para una iglesia de diez mil personas cada semana? No hay mucha gloria en eso. Es solo trabajo duro. Dios usa los tiempos difíciles para probar nuestra persistencia.

Si estás pasando por tiempos difíciles justo ahora, entonces este versículo es para ti: “Es por esto que nunca nos damos por vencidos. Aunque nuestro cuerpo está muriéndose, nuestro espíritu va renovándose cada día. Pues nuestras dificultades actuales son pequeñas y no durarán mucho tiempo. Sin embargo, ¡nos producen una gloria que durará para siempre y que es de mucho más peso que las dificultades!”

2 Corintios 4:16-17 (NTV).

Dios está más interesado en lo que te estás convirtiendo que en lo que te está pasando. Él a menudo permite pruebas, problemas, tribulaciones y dificultades en tu vida, para enseñarte diligencia, determinación y carácter. El problema por el que estás pasando, es una prueba de tu fidelidad. ¿Continuarás sirviendo a Dios aun cuando la vida es difícil?

“No nos cansemos de hacer el bien, porque a su debido tiempo cosecharemos si no nos damos por vencidos” Gálatas 6:9 (NVI).
