Give the Gift of Your Time This Christmas

“We must show love through actions that are sincere, not through empty words.”

This Christmas give the gift of your time.

Time is your most precious commodity because your time is your life. You only have a certain amount of it. God has already decided the number of days you are going to live. And you’re not going to get any more.

You can always get more money, but you cannot get more time. So, when you give someone your time, you are giving that person a portion of your life that you will never get back. That’s why it’s a priceless gift.

If nothing else, 2020 has reminded us that relationships should always take priority in our lives.

But the truth is that many relationships are starved for time. People may live in the same home, but they pass each other like ships in the night, with a goodbye kiss here and there. Relationships die when time together dries up.

Many things can rob a relationship of the time it needs to thrive. Work can rob a relationship. Activity can rob a relationship. Hobbies can rob a relationship. Even too much church involvement or ministry can rob a relationship.

You may wonder, “How can I have more time for those I love?” Start by turning off the TV and setting down your phone! Those two simple changes will help you make time for others a priority.

This Christmas slow down and make the time—give your time—for your family and for the other people God brings into your life. God has given you the gift of time so that you can give it away to other people.

El Camino de Regreso a Dios

“Me buscarán y me encontrarán cuando me busquen de todo corazón”. Jeremías 29:13 (NVI)

No sé cómo te sientas hoy. Puedes sentirte lejos de Dios. Tal vez no has ido a la iglesia en años, o quizás has estado alejado por uno o dos meses. Tal vez has tenido una de esas semanas en que has pensado: “Realmente no siento la presencia de Dios en mi vida”. Y sin embargo, todos anhelamos estar cerca de Dios. ¿Cómo vuelves a Él?

Este es el camino de regreso a la transformación espiritual: cuatro cosas que debes hacer para reconectarte con Dios.

Decide que éste es el momento de hacer un cambio.

Nada va a pasar en tu vida, hasta que te sientas insatisfecho con la manera en que están las cosas, hasta que puedas decir: “No me gusta esto. Estoy cansado de estar estresado todo el tiempo. Estoy cansado de estar frustrado todo el tiempo. Estoy cansado de estar sobrecargado todo el tiempo. Estoy cansado de sentirme alejado de Dios”.

¿Por qué Dios te permite llegar a este punto? Porque Él te dio el libre albedrío. Él te ama tal como eres, pero te ama demasiado para dejarte seguir así. Él no permitirá que desperdicies tu vida.

Jeremías 29:13 “Me buscarán y me encontrarán cuando me busquen de todo corazón”.

Confiesa tus pecados.

Isaías 59:2 dice, “Son sus pecados los que los han separado de Dios. A causa de esos pecados, él se alejó y ya no los escuchará” (NTV).

¿Alguna vez oraste y sentiste que Dios estaba a un millón de millas de distancia o que había un velo entre tú y Dios?

¿De dónde viene eso? Tus pecados te han separado de Dios. Pero si te sientes lejos de Dios, adivina quién se movió. Dios siempre ha estado allí. Él te ama incondicionalmente, y Él está esperando que confieses tus pecados para que puedas tener de nuevo una relación correcta con Él.

Ofrécete a Dios.

La Biblia dice en 2 Corintios 3:18, “Así que, todos nosotros, a quienes nos ha sido quitado el velo, podemos ver y reflejar la gloria del Señor. El Señor, quien es el Espíritu, nos hace más y más parecidos a él a medida que somos transformados a su gloriosa imagen”.

La verdadera transformación ocurre cuando tu corazón se mueve del egocentrismo a centrarse en Dios. Esta transformación no ocurre de la noche a la mañana. Toma un tiempo. Pero la buena noticia es que Dios trabajará contigo toda tu vida.

Todo comienza con la decisión de ofrecerte como un sacrificio vivo a Dios.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Por qué a veces es difícil olvidarse de las cosas que te producen estrés?
¿Qué significa arrepentirse? ¿Cómo esto actúa en tu diario vivir?
En la práctica, ¿qué es ofrecerse a Dios?

¿Quisieras encontrar tu camino de regreso a Dios?

La Biblia dice que solo podemos llegar al cielo confiando en Dios a través de su Hijo, Jesucristo. Y no tenemos que ganarnos el amor de Dios o trabajar para llegar al cielo. La Biblia dice: “Porque por gracia ustedes han sido salvados mediante la fe; esto no procede de ustedes, sino que es el regalo de Dios, no por obras, para que nadie se jacte” Efesios 2: 8-9 (NVI).

Si no has confiado en Jesús, ni te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? Si estás listo para cruzar esa línea y tomar la decisión de creer en Jesucristo y seguirlo, haz esta oración:

“Querido Jesús, has prometido que, si creo en ti, todo lo que he hecho mal será perdonado, aprenderé el propósito de mi vida, y algún día me aceptarás en tu hogar eterno en el cielo.

Confieso mi pecado, y creo que eres mi Salvador. Has prometido que, si confieso mi pecado y confío en ti, seré salvo. Confío en ti cuando dices que la salvación viene por gracia, a través de la fe, y no por nada que yo haga. Te recibo en mi vida como mi Señor. Hoy estoy entregando cada parte de mi vida a tu administración. Tienes el derecho de tomar las decisiones en mi vida.

Jesús, quiero descansar en tu amor. Gracias por no tener que ganarlo o trabajar para eso. Quiero usar el resto de mi vida para servirte en lugar de servirme a mí mismo. Humildemente te entrego mi vida y te pido que me salves y me aceptes en tu familia. En tu nombre Jesús oro. Amén”.

What to Do With Life’s Disappointments

“[Anna] did not leave the temple, serving God night and day with fasting and prayers.”

Luke 2:37 (CSB)

Over the past couple of days, we’ve been looking at the wise women in the Christmas story. Today you’ll meet the third wise woman, Anna. When her circumstances would have made it easy to do otherwise, she chose to focus on God’s presence and to tell everyone she could about Jesus.

Luke 2 says that Anna had been a widow for 84 years. The love of her life had died when Anna was still very young. This wasn’t what she had planned for herself. Disappointment could have made her bitter. But the Bible gives us a different picture. Luke 2:37 says, “[Anna] did not leave the temple, serving God night and day with fasting and prayers” (CSB).

When Anna’s husband died, she could have chosen to let her love die too. Instead, she wisely redirected her love to God. She spent her days and nights focusing on his presence instead of her disappointment.

If you haven’t yet, one day you will probably find someone you want to love is no longer there. What do you do with your love in those circumstances? If you’re wise, you’ll focus on God’s presence and redirect your love.

I’ve seen many couples make this decision when they’re longing for a baby but can’t have one. I’ve seen them adopt or become foster parents. They’ve taken their love and redirected it. They’ve focused on God’s presence by giving his love to one of the many children in the world in need of it.

Anna also made a second wise decision when her husband was no longer there for her to love. After spending years in God’s presence at the temple, she finally met Jesus—and immediately began spreading the Good News about him.

When Jesus was eight days old, Mary and Joseph brought him to the temple, and Anna was there. The Bible says: “At that time Anna came in and praised God. She spoke about the child Jesus to everyone who hoped for Jerusalem to be set free” (Luke 2:38 CEV).

From the moment she met Jesus, she started telling other people about him. The Bible says, “He who wins souls is wise” (Proverbs 11:30 NKJV). Anna was wise because she chose to tell other people about the Good News of Jesus’ arrival.

During this Christmas season, you can make that same decision. People around you likely will be more open to spiritual truth than at any other time of the year. No matter what disappointments you’ve faced this year, choose to be like Anna. Refocus your love on God and tell people about Jesus.

That’s a wise decision.

 

Prayer

As you end your time of learning about the three wise women of Christmas, take a few minutes to pray through this prayer and be reminded of what these three women have taught you.

“Father, in the middle of a strange Christmas season at the end of a long, difficult year, I thank you for the greatest gift of all, your son Jesus Christ. Thank you for sending him to pay for my sins. Thank you for your promise of eternal life to those who accept this gift. Holy Spirit, fill my heart with faith to trust in your promises like the three wise women of Christmas—Elizabeth, Mary, and Anna—have taught me. Help me to choose to trust your plan instead of being bitter. Help me to believe your Word instead of my fears. Help me to focus on your presence, not my disappointment, and talk to everyone about Jesus. Amen.”

Trust God’s Word, Not Your Fears

“My God, I want to do what you want.”

Psalm 40:8 (NCV)

We’re continuing our look at the three wise women of Christmas. Today you’ll meet Mary, the young woman who became the mother of Jesus. She showed wisdom beyond her years when she chose to believe God’s Word instead of her own fears.

Put yourself in Mary’s shoes. She was no older than 16 when an angel told her she would give birth to a son—even though she had never been with a man.

And her baby’s father? God.

Imagine all the fears going through Mary’s mind.

First, there was the fear of criticism: “How am I going to tell my mom?”

Then you have the fear of inadequacy: “How in the world am I supposed to be the mother of the son of God?”

Then, of course, she faced the fear of change: “How many ways is this going to change my life?”

You can’t blame Mary for being afraid.

But the angel told Mary: “God can do everything!” (Luke 1:37 ICB).

Mary knew God’s Word. Later in the book of Luke, she sang a song containing around 10 Old Testament verses. She knew the Bible so well she could write that song on the spot.

So, when the angel came to her, Mary pondered in her heart all the things she knew to be true of God from his Word: “God loves me. God chose me. God is with me. Nothing is impossible with God. I can handle this—not because of my strength, but because of God’s presence.”

Then she chose to believe God’s Word over her own fears. She said: “Yes, I see it all now: I’m the Lord’s maid, ready to serve. Let it be with me just as you say” (Luke 1:38 The Message).

Mary wisely surrendered to the will of God. She was like King David, who said: “My God, I want to do what you want” (Psalm 40:8 NCV).

Wise people say, “Whatever God wants for my life, I’m in. I may not understand it, but I’ll do his will.”

The Bible says, “Mary treasured [the things God told her] and continued to think about them” (Luke 2:19 NCV).

God blessed Mary because she chose to believe God’s Word instead of her fears. He wants you to do the same.

This Christmas season the world may seem more uncertain than ever. But God wants you to be wise by believing the truth of his Word over your fears.

Dios Sonríe cuando Obedecemos de todo Corazón

“Enséñame tus decretos, oh Señor; los cumpliré hasta el fin. Dame entendimiento y obedeceré tus enseñanzas; las pondré en práctica con todo mi corazón”. Salmos 119:33-34 (NTV)

Dios sonríe cuando lo obedecemos de todo corazón. Eso significa hacer lo que Dios pide sin reservas o dudas. No pospones las cosas y dices: “Voy a orar por esto”. Lo haces sin demora. Todos los padres saben que la obediencia tardía es realmente desobediencia.

Dios no te debe una explicación o razón por todo lo que Él te pide que hagas. La comprensión puede esperar, pero la obediencia no. La obediencia inmediata te enseñará más acerca de Dios que una vida de discusiones bíblicas. De hecho, nunca entenderás algunos mandatos hasta que los obedezcas. La obediencia trae la comprensión.

A menudo tratamos de ofrecerle a Dios obediencia parcial. Queremos escoger y elegir los mandatos que obedecemos. Hacemos una lista de los mandamientos que nos gustan y luego los obedecemos mientras ignoramos los que creemos que son irracionales, difíciles, caros o impopulares. “Asistiré a la iglesia, pero no diezmaré”. “Leeré mi Biblia, pero no perdonaré a la persona que me hizo daño”. Sin embargo, la obediencia parcial es desobediencia.

La obediencia de todo corazón se hace con alegría, con entusiasmo. La Biblia dice: “Adoren al Señor con gozo. Vengan ante él cantando con alegría” Salmo 100:2 (NTV).

Esta es la actitud de David: “Enséñame tus decretos, oh Señor; los cumpliré hasta el fin. Dame entendimiento y obedeceré tus enseñanzas; las pondré en práctica con todo mi corazón” Salmos 119:33-34 (NTV).

Santiago, al escribir a los cristianos, dice que Dios está complacido no solo por lo que creemos, sino también por lo que hacemos (véase Santiago 2:24).

La Palabra de Dios es clara en que no puedes ganar tu salvación. Viene solo por gracia, no por tu esfuerzo. Pero como hijo de Dios, puedes dar placer a tu Padre celestial por medio de la obediencia. Cualquier acto de obediencia es también un acto de adoración.

¿Por qué la obediencia agrada a Dios? Porque demuestra que realmente lo amas. Jesús dijo: “Si me aman, obedezcan mis mandamientos” Juan 14:15 (NTV).

¿Si Dios está con Nosotros, quién puede estar contra Nosotros?

“Pon todo lo que hagas en manos del Señor, y tus planes tendrán éxito” . Proverbios 16:3 (NTV)

Dios está para ti, para que tengas éxito en la vida; Él te creó para un propósito y quiere que tengas éxito. Es Dios, tu Creador, quien medirá tu éxito en la vida y nadie más.

Saber que Dios está para ti cambiará tu perspectiva de la vida. Dejarás de pensar en Dios como alguien que mira hacia abajo desde el Cielo, listo para gritar: “¡Te tengo!” cada vez que hagas algo mal.

¡Esta es una muy buena noticia! Significa que no necesitas tener miedo de Dios, porque Dios está para ti.

Sin embargo, algunas personas le tienen tanto miedo a Dios que se ponen nerviosas al hablar con Él. ¿Sabes por qué? Se sienten culpables, y luego comienzan a pensar: “Si me acerco a Dios, Él me va a sermonear. ¡Me recordará todas las cosas que hice mal y me sentiré aún peor!”.

Nada podría estar más lejos de la verdad de Dios. Jesús dijo: “No vine al mundo para condenarlo, sino para salvarlo”. En efecto, Jesús está diciendo: “No vine a regañarte; vine para salvarte”.

Si Dios está con nosotros, ¿quién puede estar contra nosotros?

Trust God’s Plan, Even When His Timing Doesn’t Make Sense

“Every word I’ve spoken to you will come true on time—God’s time.”

Luke 1:20 (The Message)

You know about the wise men, but the Christmas story also includes three wise women: Elizabeth, Mary, and Anna.

They came from three different stages of life. One was married, one was single, and one was widowed. And each of them made wise decisions that you can learn from today.

Their decisions are the same ones we all need to make: to trust God’s plan instead of being bitter; to believe God’s Word instead of our fears; and to focus on God’s presence instead of disappointment.

In the next few devotionals, you’ll get to know these women and learn about the decisions they made based on faith.

Today, meet Elizabeth. Her story reveals how God works through your disappointments and heartache, even though you may not be able to immediately see what he’s doing.

The Bible says Elizabeth and her husband, Zechariah, were righteous and godly people. But they were broken-hearted because they wanted a child and had been unable to have one.

Elizabeth had prayed for a baby for many years—but now she was past the age for childbearing. Her greatest and longest prayer had not been answered.

She’d done everything right, but God still didn’t give her what she wanted most. She faced the temptation of becoming resentful toward God.

But, in her wisdom, Elizabeth chose not to get angry or bitter towards God. Instead, she chose to trust him—and to pray.

Then, at the right time, God answered her prayer. He gave Elizabeth a son, John the Baptist, who would prepare the way for Jesus, the Messiah.

If John had been born at any other time, he couldn’t have fulfilled his purpose to prepare the way for Jesus. He needed to be born around the same time as Jesus.

All that time, Elizabeth had been praying and wondering whether God heard her prayers, but she still chose to trust God’s plan. She believed that his timing was better than hers.

For Elizabeth, and for you, God’s delay isn’t God’s denial. A wise person knows the difference between a “no” and a “not yet.” When frustrations and delays come, a wise person will trust God instead of getting bitter.

Like Elizabeth, you likely have had plans this year that had to be set aside. COVID-19 has closed schools and businesses. It’s altered the way we do weddings and funerals. It’s changed the way we’re celebrating Christmas this year.

But, like Elizabeth and Zechariah, you can choose to trust God even when circumstances are challenging.

An angel visited Zechariah and said: “Don’t be afraid, Zechariah! God has heard your prayer, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son. You are to name him John” (Luke 1:13 GNT).

You may not receive a visit from an angel, but you can know that God hears your prayers too. A delayed answer to a prayer is not a denial. God promises that persistent prayers are heard.

This Christmas season choose to be wise like Elizabeth. Choose to believe that God hears your prayers and is working through your circumstances, even when you don’t see what he’s doing.

Cuando trabajamos Juntos, Maximizamos nuestro Impacto

“Les digo la verdad, cuando hicieron alguna de estas cosas al más insignificante de estos, mis hermanos, ¡me lo hicieron a mí!”. Mateo 25:40 (NTV)

Eclesiastés 4:9-12 dice: “Es mejor ser dos que uno, porque ambos pueden ayudarse mutuamente a lograr el éxito. Si uno cae, el otro puede darle la mano y ayudarle; pero el que cae y está solo, ese sí que está en problemas. Del mismo modo, si dos personas se recuestan juntas, pueden brindarse calor mutuamente; pero ¿cómo hace uno solo para entrar en calor? Alguien que está solo puede ser atacado y vencido, pero si son dos, se ponen de espalda con espalda y vencen; mejor todavía si son tres, porque una cuerda triple no se corta fácilmente” (NTV).

Este pasaje tiene mucho que decir acerca de servir con otros en el ministerio, pero se puede resumir en tres afirmaciones:

Cuando trabajamos juntos, maximizamos nuestro impacto.

Hacemos más cosas. ¿Quieres hacer un impacto global con tu vida? Entonces hazlo con otras personas en tu iglesia, porque lo que hacemos juntos como el Cuerpo de Cristo será mucho más significativo que lo que hacemos individualmente. Una gota de lluvia no hace una gran diferencia en un desierto, pero un millón de gotas de lluvia pueden convertir ese desierto en un jardín.
Cuando trabajamos juntos, minimizamos nuestras fallas.

Como el versículo 10 dice, pero el que cae y está solo, ese sí que está en problemas. Cuando servimos juntos y una persona cae, las otras personas simplemente lo levantan. ¿No es eso un punto simple pero profundo? Necesitamos trabajar con otras personas para animarnos unos a otros y minimizar nuestros fracasos.
Cuando trabajamos juntos, movilizamos nuestros recursos.

Cuando unimos nuestros recursos y fondos, van más lejos. Puedes compartir tu cobija y dos personas se mantendrán calientes en lugar de una.

En Mateo 25:40, Jesús enseñó: “Les digo la verdad, cuando hicieron alguna de estas cosas al más insignificante de estos, mis hermanos, ¡me lo hicieron a mí!” (NTV).

The Good News of Christmas

“There is only one God, and Christ Jesus is the only one who can bring us to God. Jesus was truly human, and he gave himself to rescue all of us.”

1 Timothy 2:5 (CEV)

Christmas is all about Good News. But it’s not the good news of special gifts. It’s not the good news of a big meal. It’s not the good news of festive music and beautiful lights.

Christmas is about the Good News of God’s love.

The Bible says every person desperately needs God’s love. In fact, you’re lost without it. You’re directionless, without protection, and without real joy. Your potential eternal impact upon the world is unrealized. Your eternity in heaven isn’t secure.

The Good News of Christmas is that God sent Jesus to seek and save the lost. The Bible says, “There is only one God, and Christ Jesus is the only one who can bring us to God. Jesus was truly human, and he gave himself to rescue all of us” (1 Timothy 2:5 CEV).

If you’ve ever spent time in church, you’ve likely heard the word “salvation” many times. But you may not know what it means. The word is like a diamond; you can look at it from many different angles and still discover new facets. Salvation means:

Jesus came to rescue you. You can’t solve all of your problems on your own. Without Jesus, you’re trapped in the expectations of others. You’re trapped in living for the approval of your peers. You’re trapped in addictions. You may try to change, but you don’t have the power needed to escape. Jesus came to give you that power.
Jesus came to recover you. All people long to recover parts of their lives that have been lost. Without Christ, you long to recover your strength, your confidence, your reputation, your innocence, and your relationship with God. But only Jesus can do that.
Jesus came to reconnect you. Many people think God will scold them if they come back to him. But God isn’t mad at you. He’s mad about you. In other words, his love for you is immeasurable. Jesus came to Earth on the first Christmas to reconcile you to God, to give you harmony with him again.

As you look around this Christmas, you’ll see plenty of good in the Christmas season. But remember that best of all is the Good News of God’s love. Through Jesus, you can experience rescue, recovery, and reconnection with God.

How can you experience rescue, recovery, and reconnection with God?

You don’t have to earn God’s love or work your way into heaven.

The Bible says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).

If you haven’t trusted in Jesus and committed to following him, why wait any longer? If you’re ready to step across that line and make a decision to believe in Jesus Christ and follow him, pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, you have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe that you are my Savior. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace and through faith—not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Tu Importancia Proviene del Servir

“Dios, de su gran variedad de dones espirituales, les ha dado un don a cada uno de ustedes. Úsenlos bien para servirse los unos a los otros”. 1 Pedro 4:10 (NTV)

Para que tu vida tenga significado, debes servir con otros en el ministerio. Ministerio simplemente significa hacer bien a otras personas.

El significado no proviene de un estatus o de un adorno en tu auto, o un logo en tu camisa. El significado no proviene de un salario mayor. No proviene del sexo.

El significado viene del servicio. Viene cuando empiezas a pensar más en las otras personas que en ti mismo y ofreces tu vida. No puedes ser egoísta y significativo al mismo tiempo.

La Biblia dice en 1 Pedro 4:10, “Dios, de su gran variedad de dones espirituales, les ha dado un don a cada uno de ustedes. Úsenlos bien para servirse los unos a los otros” (NTV).

Los talentos que te fueron dados no son para tu propio beneficio. Dios te los dio para el beneficio de los que te rodean. Fuiste formado para ser significativo, y encuentras ese significado usando tus dones, talentos y habilidades para servir a otras personas.

Eclesiastés 4:9-12 dice, “Más valen dos que uno, porque obtienen más fruto de su esfuerzo. Si caen, el uno levanta al otro. ¡Ay del que cae y no tiene quien lo levante! Si dos se acuestan juntos, entrarán en calor; uno solo ¿cómo va a calentarse? Uno solo puede ser vencido, pero dos pueden resistir. ¡La cuerda de tres hilos no se rompe fácilmente!” (NVI).

No fuiste hecho para servir a Dios tú solo. Fuiste creado para servir a Dios en equipo. Fuiste creado para servir a Dios en familia, en un grupo pequeño, en la iglesia. Fuiste creado para servir a Dios en una relación.
