You Were Created to Be like Christ

“From the very beginning God decided that those who came to him—and all along he knew who would—should become like his Son."
Romans 8:29 (TLB)
Jesus is the only perfect human being who ever lived. He was God in human form and lived a perfect life. Jesus showed us exactly what it means to be fully human.
That’s why God wants you to learn to think like Jesus, act like Jesus, and value what Jesus does. God wants you to grow up and become more like Jesus.
You’ve probably spent a lot of time trying to determine what you want to do in life. But God is far more interested in who you are than what you do. You’re not taking your career to heaven. You are taking your character.
The Bible says, “From the very beginning God decided that those who came to him—and all along he knew who would—should become like his Son” (Romans 8:29 TLB).
God’s plan has always been for you to become like Jesus. It was God’s plan from the very beginning, even before Adam sinned.
The fruits of the Spirit are the perfect picture of who Jesus is and how he acts: “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23 NLT).
So how does God produce this kind of fruit in your life? He puts you in situations that are opposite of the fruit he’s growing in you. It’s easy to love people who are lovely; God will teach you love by putting you around unlovely people, so you have to learn love. During periods of grief, you’ll learn joy. You’ll learn patience when it’s tested.
God wants to build character in your life. You might want the process to be quick and easy, like a vending machine. A vending machine gives you what you want immediately, but much of what it offers is just junk that will harm you in the long run. How God works is the opposite of a vending machine. It’s slow and sometimes difficult, but over time it will build strong character in you.
Remember that growing up spiritually is a lifelong journey. Be patient.
The Bible says, “God began doing a good work in you, and I am sure he will continue it until it is finished when Jesus Christ comes again” (Philippians 1:6 NCV).
You can count on that promise!
PLAY today’s audio teaching from Pastor Rick >>Talk It Over
What specific character traits do you believe God wants you to develop during this season of your life? (For inspiration, look back through the list of the fruits of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23.)
How has God used an opposite experience to grow your character (for example, a hard-to-love person made you more loving)?
How is it comforting to know that God won’t give up on his work of growing you spiritually?
You can trust in God’s promise of forgiveness!
God promised that for those who believe in Jesus, there is no condemnation. He sent Jesus to save you from your sin. His death on the cross paid for every wrong you’ve ever done or will do. And by sacrificing himself for your sins and giving you his righteousness, Jesus made it possible for you to have a relationship with God the Father.
The good news doesn’t stop there. God also raised Jesus from the dead, proving his power over sin and death. And that makes it possible for you to spend eternity with him in heaven.
If you’re ready to surrender your life to Jesus Christ, start by praying this simple prayer: “Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is your Son. I believe that he died for my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust him as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
If you just prayed to accept Jesus, please email me at Rick@PastorRick.com and let me know about it. I’d like to send you some free materials to help you start your journey with Jesus.

You Were Formed for God’s Family

“God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. And this gave him great pleasure."
Ephesians 1:5 (NLT)
The whole reason the universe exists is because God wanted a family. He wanted children. He didn’t need us, but he wanted us so he could show his love.
Our planet sits on an axis. If that axis shifted one degree the wrong way, we’d burn up. If it shifted one degree the other way, we’d freeze. Our planet is at the perfect angle to sustain life.
You are so valuable to God that he placed the Earth in just the right spot to sustain your life. He thought you up before he thought up the universe. You were the focus of his love.
The Bible says this in Ephesians 1:5: “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. And this gave him great pleasure” (NLT).
God wanted a family and wanted you to be a part of it. God never meant for you to go through life alone.
The first thing God told Adam was, “It is not good for man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18 NLV). Whether you marry or not is irrelevant to this issue. You’re made to be in a spiritual family that God created to take care of you—so you’re not alone.
Being a part of God’s family is not automatic. It’s a choice. You need to choose to be in God’s family. Everyone is created by God. Everyone is loved by God. But he gives you the choice of whether you’ll be in his family.
What is God’s family?
The Bible says, “That family is the church of the living God, the support and foundation of the truth” (1 Timothy 3:15 NCV).
God’s family is the church. We are children of God, which makes us brothers and sisters in the family of God.
God created you to belong to his family. God doesn’t want you just to believe; he wants you to belong. A Christian without a church family is an orphan.
God wants you to learn to love real people with all their quirks, faults, and flaws. That’s why you’re on this planet and not in heaven. You need to learn to love, even when it’s difficult.
Are you connected to a church family? If not, what is holding you back?
PLAY today’s audio teaching from Pastor Rick >>Talk It Over
How does it make you feel to know that God made you to be part of his family?
Sometimes family relationships can be tough. What lessons have you learned through difficult relationships with other Christians?
What keeps you from having an even closer relationship with your church family?
Will you choose to be part of God’s family?
The Bible says you can only join God in heaven by trusting in his Son, Jesus Christ. You cannot earn your way into heaven: “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).
If you’re ready to confess your sins and to trust Jesus with your life, start with this prayer:
“Dear God, you have promised that if I believe in Jesus, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.
“I confess my sin, and I submit to Jesus as my Savior and Lord. Jesus, I want to follow you and serve you. I humbly commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In your name I pray. Amen.”
If you just prayed to accept Jesus, please email me at Rick@PastorRick.com and let me know about it. I’d like to send you some free materials to help you start your journey with Jesus.

Salmo 103:14 (PDT)
Tus fracasos no sorprenden a Dios.
God Made You to Love You

“The Lord takes pleasure in his people."
Psalm 149:4 (GNT)
God created you to love you.
The Bible doesn’t say God has love. The Bible says, “God is love” (1 John 4:8 ESV). Love is the essence of his nature.
The Bible says, “For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased” (Revelation 4:11 NLT).
Everything was created because God gets enjoyment out of it. He wanted to love it. God loves every rock, every plant, every animal, every star, and every human being.
As Psalm 149:4 says, “The Lord takes pleasure in his people” (GNT).
God takes pleasure in you all the time. Why? He created you. He’s your heavenly Father.
Some people think God is only smiling at them when they’re doing something “religious.” Nothing could be further from the truth. God gets pleasure in watching you be you because he made you you.
God planned you for his pleasure, and he wants you to learn to love him back. Jesus gave the ultimate summary of the Bible when asked, “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” (Matthew 22:36 NIV).
Jesus said: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment” (Matthew 22:37-38 NIV).
Life is all about love. If you don’t get that, you’ve missed the first purpose of your life—to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Before my feet touch the ground each morning, I pray this: “Dear God, it’s another day. And if I don’t get anything else done today, I want to know you a little bit better, and I want to love you a little bit more.”
If you find yourself at the end of an awful day—full of your own mistakes, sin, grief, and pain—but you recognize that you’ve learned to love God just a little bit more, your day isn’t a waste.
You’re doing exactly what God made you to do.
PLAY today’s audio teaching from Pastor Rick >>Talk It Over
Why do you think people struggle to accept the truth that God loves them and takes pleasure in them?
Why do you think people often miss this first purpose of their life—to love God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength?
If you really internalized the fact that life is all about love, how would that change what you prioritized in your day?
God loves you, regardless of your sin
God created you to love you, and even though you’ve sinned, God still loves you. In fact, God loves you so much that he sent his Son, Jesus, to wipe away your sins and bring you into his family.
If you’ve never accepted God’s love and invited Jesus into your heart, I want you to have that opportunity now. Pray this prayer: “Dear God, I don’t understand it all, but thank you for loving me. Thank you for sending Jesus to save me.
I confess I have sinned, and I ask for your forgiveness. I need Jesus to be my Savior, and today I want to ask him to come into my heart. I want to follow him and do the things he tells me to do.
I want to fulfill what you made me to do. I want to learn how to love and trust you and to be in your family forever. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

El Fracaso puede ser Bueno para Ti

“Quien esconde su pecado jamás puede prosperar”. Proverbios 28:13 (TLA)
Si no estás cometiendo ningún error, no estás aprendiendo. Si no estás tomando ningún riesgo, no estás creciendo.

Why God Made You

“It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for . . . part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone."
Ephesians 1:11-12 (The Message)
Mark Twain once said the two most important days in your life are the day you’re born and the day you find out why.
God has created everything with a purpose. Every plant has a purpose. Every star has a purpose. Every animal has a purpose. If your heart is beating, God has a purpose for your life. The very fact that you’re alive makes your life meaningful.
If you want to know your purpose, you won’t find it in a self-help book, on television, or in the movies. You also can’t find it in yourself because you didn’t make yourself. God made you.
Only God—the one who created you—can tell you your purpose.
The Bible tells you this in Ephesians 1:11-12: “It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for . . . part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone” (Ephesians 1:11-12 The Message).
You were made by God; you were made for God. Until you understand that, your life will not make sense.
The Bible says you were made to last forever. One day, your heart will stop. That will be the end of your body, but it won’t be the end of you. God has long-range plans for your life. He wants you to live forever and ever and ever.
You’ll spend more time on the other side of death than on this side. You might get 80 or 100 years of life on this side of death, but on the other side is eternity.
The Bible says you’re not yet ready for heaven. You need to learn some things first. This life is preparation for the next life—because that’s the life that will keep on going forever and ever.
In the next few devotionals, I’ll share the five habits God wants you to practice on Earth. I believe these next five devotionals may be among the most important ones you ever read.
The fundamental question of life is, “Why am I here?” These next five devotionals will help you answer that important question.

You Are Called to Serve Others

“Each of us will give a personal account to God."
Romans 14:12 (NLT)
At the end of your life on Earth, you will stand before God and he’ll evaluate how well you served others with your life. The Bible says, “Each of us will give a personal account to God” (Romans 14:12 NLT).
Think about the implications of that. One day God will compare how much time and energy you spent on yourself compared with what you invested in serving others.
At that point, all your excuses for self-centeredness will sound hollow: “I was too busy” or “I had my own goals” or “I was preoccupied with working, having fun, and preparing for retirement.”
To all excuses, God will respond with something like this: “Sorry, wrong answer. I created, saved, and called you. Then I commanded you to live a life of service. What part did you not understand?”
The Bible warns unbelievers, “He will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves” (Romans 2:8 NLT). And Christians who live for themselves will lose eternal rewards.
The Bible says that you’re only fully alive when you’re helping others. Jesus said it like this: “If you insist on saving your life, you will lose it. Only those who throw away their lives for my sake and for the sake of the Good News will ever know what it means to really live” (Mark 8:35 TLB).
Then he repeats a similar truth twice in the book of Matthew and twice in Luke:
“If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give it up for me, you will save it” (Matthew 10:39 TLB).“For anyone who keeps his life for himself shall lose it; and anyone who loses his life for me shall find it again” (Matthew 16:25 TLB).“Whoever loses his life for my sake will save it, but whoever insists on keeping his life will lose it” (Luke 9:24 TLB).“Whoever clings to his life shall lose it, and whoever loses his life shall save it” (Luke 17:33 TLB).Did you catch that? This truth is so important that it is repeated five times in the Gospels. If you are not serving, you are just existing—because life is meant for ministry.
What does God expect from you? He wants you to learn to love and serve others unselfishly.
