Dios puede Manejar tu Honestidad

“Levántense durante la noche y clamen. Desahoguen el corazón como agua delante del Señor”. Lamentaciones 2:19a (NTV)

Has tenido una adversidad horrible. Has perdido un trabajo. Has terminado una relación. Has fracasado en alguna manera.

¿Qué haces enseguida?

¿Solo sonríes y te aguantas? ¿Le dices a Dios lo que crees que Él quiere escuchar?

No. La primera cosa que haces es decirle a Dios como te sientes. Desahogas tu dolor. Cuando eres honesto con Dios sobre tus emociones, es en realidad un acto de adoración.

Job nos dio un gran ejemplo de esto. Job perdió todo —su familia, su hacienda, su casa y su fortuna.

Pero la Biblia no endulza su respuesta. “Job se levantó y rasgó su vestido en señal de dolor; después se rasuró la cabeza y se postró en el suelo para adorar” Job 1:20 (NTV).

Job se afligió de la forma en que lo habrían hecho los habitantes del Medio Oriente de su época, rasgando su túnica y afeitándose la cabeza. Pero luego adoró a Dios.

En cualquier ocasión que experimentes pérdida en tu vida, debes afrontar tus emociones:

Enojo: ¿Por qué me pasó esto?Aflicción: ¿Qué he perdido?Conmoción: ¿Qué está sucediendo aquí?Temor: ¿Qué va a suceder después?

Cuando experimentas un contratiempo, necesitas expresar cada una de tus emociones. Dios puede manejarlas porque Él es quién te las dio.

La única razón por la que tienes emociones es porque fuiste creado a la imagen de Dios. Es lo que hace a los humanos únicos entre la creación de Dios. Dios es un Dios emocional; Él tiene emociones. Él puede manejar tu enojo, aflicción, conmoción y tu temor.

Job fue brutalmente honesto con Dios, y tú también puedes serlo. Job dijo, “No puedo evitar hablar; debo expresar mi angustia. Mi alma llena de amargura debe quejarse” Job 7:11 (NTV).

La respuesta correcta a un contratiempo no es fingir una buena respuesta. Dios nunca quiere que finjas una emoción.

En uno de los contratiempos más difíciles en toda la Biblia, después de que en Jerusalén habían sido saqueados y destruidos y los israelitas habían sido asesinados, esclavizados y exiliados, el profeta Jeremías escribió esto: “Levántense durante la noche y clamen. Desahoguen el corazón como agua delante del Señor” Lamentaciones 2:19a (NTV).

Con Dios, la honestidad siempre es la mejor táctica.

Your Abilities Are God’s Map for Your Life

“May he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him."

Hebrews 13:21 (NLT)

Once upon a time, some animals wanted to start a school. They decided the courses would include running, climbing, swimming, and flying. Then they decided that all of the animals should take all of the courses.

That’s where the problem started.

The duck was better than his teacher at swimming, but he only made passing grades in flying and was very poor in running. So they made him drop swimming and stay after school to practice running. This caused his webbed feet to be badly worn, and his grade dropped to average in swimming. But everybody felt less threatened and more comfortable with that—except the duck.

The rabbit started at the top of his class in running, but because of so much makeup work in swimming, he caught pneumonia and had to drop out of school.

The squirrel showed outstanding ability in climbing, but he was extremely frustrated in flying class because the teacher insisted that he start from the ground up rather than the treetop down. He developed charley horses from overextension, so he only got a “C” in climbing and a “D” in running.

The eagle was the problem student and was disciplined for being a nonconformist. For instance, in climbing class he beat all the others to the top of the tree, but he insisted on flying to get there. Finally, because he refused to participate in swimming class, he was expelled.

As you might imagine, the animals’ school didn’t work.

Different animals are designed to excel in specific areas, and they can’t be expected to do all the other things. A duck is made to be a duck—not anything else.

It’s the same for people. God has designed each person different from all the others. When you expect everyone to fit in the same mold, the result is frustration, discouragement, mediocrity, and failure.

God made you to be you. He has given you unique abilities, and he wants you to use them the way he intended.

Are you wondering what God’s will is for your life? Look at your abilities. They’re your road map; they point you in the direction you should go. When you know what you’re good at, then you can know what God wants you to do with your life.

The Bible says, “May he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him” (Hebrews 13:21 NLT).

Through your abilities, God has equipped you to do his will. As you use those abilities, you’ll start to see how he produces “every good thing” in your life.

Talk It Over

What unique abilities has God given you?
When have you tried to fit into a mold that didn’t match how God made you? What was the result?
When have you seen God producing good things in you because you were using the unique abilities he gave you?

You can rely on God’s promise of salvation.

Your sin separates you from God, and there’s nothing you can do to make things right. So, you need someone to save you from your sins and make you acceptable to God.

That’s why God sent Jesus. Jesus’ death on the cross paid for every wrong you’ve ever done or will do. Jesus made it possible for you to have a relationship with God the Father. The Bible says,“We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are” (Romans 3:22 NLT).

If you’re ready to surrender your life to Jesus Christ, start by praying this simple prayer: “Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is Your Son. I believe that he died for my sin and that you raised him to life. I want to trust him as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Jesus, guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Encontrar lo mejor de Dios Cuando Obedecemos

” —Maestro—respondió Simón—, hemos trabajado mucho durante toda la noche y no hemos pescado nada; pero si tú lo dices, echaré las redes nuevamente”. Lucas 5:5 (NTV)

Todos sufrimos de vez en cuando algún retraso en el trabajo. Pero a veces el paso más sencillo del retraso al avance, son sólo dos palabras: Obedece a Dios.

Dios te ha dicho algo que es ilógico y tonto. No tiene sentido desde el punto de vista financiero, relacional o emocional. Y lo que es peor, estás muerto del miedo.

Pero Dios dice que lo hagas de todos modos.

En los últimos dos días, hemos estado viendo una historia de la Biblia sobre un retraso en los negocios. En Lucas 5, Simón Pedro y Andrés habían estado pescando toda la noche y no habían pescado nada. Para los pescadores del primer siglo, habría sido un terrible retraso.

Pero Jesús pasó por allí y utilizó su barca para predicar. “Cuando terminó de hablar, le dijo a Simón: —Ahora ve a las aguas más profundas y echa tus redes para pescar” Lucas 5:4 (NTV).

Era completamente ilógico. No tenía sentido.

Pero Jesús dijo que salieran a mayor profundidad y echaran la red.

¿Por qué dijo Jesús que fueran más profundo? Ahí es donde se encuentran los peces grandes. También es donde hay más riesgo. No hay fe sin riesgo.

” —Maestro—respondió Simón—, hemos trabajado mucho durante toda la noche y no hemos pescado nada; pero si tú lo dices, echaré las redes nuevamente” Lucas 5:5 (NTV).

Simón Pedro hizo lo que Jesús le dijo que hiciera. No lo hizo porque fuera una idea inteligente o popular. Lo hizo porque Dios le dijo que lo hiciera. No discutió ni dudó.

Y Dios les dio a Simón Pedro y a Andrés un éxito comercial más grande de lo que podrían haber soñado.

La Biblia dice que Dios les dio a los hermanos tantos peces que sus redes se rompieron y tuvieron que solicitar la ayuda de otros pescadores.

Pero nada de eso ocurrió hasta que Simón Pedro obedeció a Jesús, incluso cuando era ilógico.

¿Qué te ha dicho Dios que no estás haciendo?

¿Te parece imposible? ¿Tiene poco sentido desde el punto de vista económico? ¿Te está diciendo que te metas en aguas profundas?

No importa. Dios quiere que te arriesgues y le obedezcas.

Puedes quedarte en la parte poco profunda donde es seguro o ir a las aguas profundas donde están los peces grandes. La elección es tuya.

Una vez que obedezcas, Dios se encargará del resto. Tus mejores días están cuando obedeces.

Entonces, ¿obedecerás?

God Gives You Abilities to Help Others

“Now you belong to him who was raised from death in order that we might be useful in the service of God."

Romans 7:4 (GNT)

God created you to help others. Regardless of your job or career, you are called to full-time Christian service. A “non-serving Christian” is a contradiction in terms.

The Bible says, “He saved us and called us to be his own people, not because of what we have done, but because of his own purpose” (2 Timothy 1:9 GNT).

Jesus came to earth with a mission. God has a mission for your life, too.

“You were chosen to tell about the excellent qualities of God, who called you” (1 Peter 2:9 GW).

You may think that being called by God is something only missionaries, pastors, and other full-time church workers experience, but the Bible says every Christian is called to service.

God has given you unique talents and abilities to benefit others, and he’s gifted others with talents and abilities to benefit you. If you don’t share your talents with those around you, they’ll be cheated. If they don’t share their talents with you, you’ll miss out.

For instance, if you’re someone who doesn’t know what a carburetor is, isn’t it great that other people have mechanical skills? On the other hand, maybe you make the best chocolate chip cookies in your neighborhood and can share that gift with people around you.

Everything in society says, “It’s all about me.” Yet nothing could be further from the truth! God is calling you to use your gifts to help others.

When you use your God-given abilities to help others, you are fulfilling your calling. The Bible says, “Now you belong to him who was raised from death in order that we might be useful in the service of God” (Romans 7:4 GNT).

Jesus glorified God by fulfilling his mission. God wants you to follow that example.

Talk It Over

How are you using your God-given abilities to help others?
What is God calling you to do that you’ve thought you were not qualified to do?
How can you encourage other people in your small group, church, or community of believers to serve in ministry?

God loves you and created you for a special purpose.

But your sin separates you from God, and there’s nothing you can do to wipe that sin away. You can’t clean yourself up for God. So, you need someone to save you from your sins and make you acceptable to God.

That’s why God sent Jesus. Jesus’ death on the cross paid for every wrong you’ve ever done or will do. Jesus made it possible for you to have a relationship with God the Father. The Bible says, “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are” (Romans 3:22 NLT).

You can start your journey with Jesus by believing in him and confessing your sins. If you’re ready to surrender your life to Jesus Christ, start by praying this simple prayer: “Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is your Son. ¿Estancado en el trabajo? Pon a Jesús en tu Barca

“Y todo lo que hagan o digan, háganlo como representantes del Señor Jesús y den gracias a Dios Padre por medio de él”. Colosenses 3:17 (NTV)

¿Te has preguntado alguna vez por qué Dios no está bendiciendo tu trabajo?

La respuesta puede ser muy sencilla. Quizás nunca lo invitaste a ser parte del mismo.

Ayer hablamos acerca de la historia de Andrés y Simón Pedro y sus redes vacías de peces en Lucas 5. Pasaron toda la noche sin recoger ni un solo pez.

Pero luego Jesús entró a su barca y ellos hicieron lo que Él les dijo que hicieran. “Lleva la barca hacia aguas más profundas y echen allí las redes para pescar”. Dios hizo el resto. Ellos recogieron tantos peces que sus redes se comenzaron a romper y necesitaron ayuda extra para traer la carga.

¿Qué diferencia hubo entre el período de tiempo en que no pescaron nada y el momento en que tuvieron que transportar demasiados peces?

Es el mismo lago, la misma barca, las mismas redes, los mismos pescadores y los mismos peces. La diferencia entre las redes vacías y la abundancia fue la presencia de Jesús en la barca.

Fue un cambio de juego. Ellos ya no pescaron por ellos mismos. Dios estaba en su barca.

¿Cuál es tu barca? Lo que sea que haces para vivir.

Si quieres que Dios bendiga tu trabajo, necesitas invitarlo a que sea parte del mismo.

Esto no es salvación. Yo conozco a muchas personas que tienen a Jesús en sus vidas, pero no en su trabajo. Para hacer que Jesús entre a tu barca, necesitas dedicarle tu carrera.

Cuando Simón Pedro y Andrés hicieron esto, Dios les dio más peces de los que podían cargar.

¿Cómo pasaron estos hombres de cero a la abundancia? Permitieron que Jesús usara su barca como una plataforma para su ministerio.

Tú no oras que Dios te haga exitoso para poder servirle con tu carrera. Haces lo contrario. Tú le dices a Dios: “Estoy fracasando en mi carrera, pero te daré lo que tengo como una plataforma para que tú la hagas funcionar”.

Es cuando Dios hace un milagro.

Lo que tú quieras que Dios bendiga, le das el primer lugar en eso. Eso significa que ya no eres un agente de bienes raíces, un maestro, un jardinero, o un contador. Sin importar cuál es tu carrera, tú haces primero el compromiso de ser un misionero.

La Biblia dice, “Y todo lo que hagan o digan, hágalo como representantes del Señor Jesús y den gracias a Dios Padre por medio de él” Colosenses 3:17 (NTV).

Todo significa todo, incluyendo tu carrera.

Quizás estás en una rutina y estás teniendo una lluvia de ideas de opciones para cambiar tu carrera. Estás considerando un cambio, un nuevo trabajo, o un cambio completo de carrera. Quizás es lo que necesitas hacer.

Pero haz esto primero: Pídele a Jesús que tome el control de tu barca. Comprométete a usar tu trabajo para la gloria de Dios.

Luego observa a Jesús hacer el milagro.

What’s at the Center of Your Life?

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.”

Matthew 22:37-38 (NIV)

God wants to be at the very center of your life. He doesn’t want to be on the edge of your life, and he doesn’t want to be just a segment of your life. The God of the universe—the God who made you and loves you—wants to be the hub of your heart and the axis of your existence.

Here’s another way to look at it: God wants to have a love relationship with you.

The Bible says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment” (Matthew 22:37-38 NIV).

The truth is, you’re going to center your life around something. You may center it around your career, your family, or your hobbies. You may center it around making money or being popular.

But putting anything besides God at the center of your life is an idol. Exodus 20:3-4 says, “You must not have any other god but me. You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea” (NLT).

How do you know when something has taken center stage in your life instead of God? It’s simple. When God’s not at the center of your life, you start to worry and stress out; you get fearful. These are the warning lights that God is no longer the nucleus of your heart.

In contrast, how can you tell when your life is centered on God? You’re at peace. You stop worrying. The Bible says, “A sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life” (Philippians 4:7 The Message).

Ask yourself this: “What’s going to be the center of my life for the rest of my life?”

It’s the most important thing you will ever have to decide.

Talk It Over

In what ways are you tempted to make things or people the center of your life?
What’s your life like when it’s not centered on God?
Describe how you’ve felt during times when you’ve centered your life on God.

Are you ready to receive God’s forgiveness and start a new life with Christ?

God wants to be at the center of your life—and that can start when you accept his offer of salvation. God promised that for those who believe in Jesus, there is no condemnation. He sent Jesus to save you from your sins. His death on the cross paid for every wrong you’ve ever done or will do. And by sacrificing himself for your sins and giving you his righteousness, Jesus made it possible for you to have a relationship with God the Father.

The good news doesn’t stop there. God also raised Jesus from the dead, proving his power over sin and death. And that makes it possible for you to spend eternity with him in heaven.

If you’re ready to surrender your life to Jesus Christ, start by praying this simple prayer: “Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is your Son. I believe that he died for my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust him as my Savior and follow him as Lord. I want you to be the center of my life from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Nueva Serie: Deja que Dios Convierta Retrasos en Avances

“Así lo hicieron, y recogieron una cantidad tan grande de peces que las redes se les rompían”. Lucas 5:6 (NVI)

Si alguna vez te has desanimado con tu trabajo, estás en buena compañía. Tal vez estás agotado por el exceso de trabajo. Tal vez pusiste tu corazón y tu alma en un proyecto que finalmente fracasó.

Todos hemos enfrentado contratiempos en el trabajo. Pero lo que sucede después es lo verdaderamente importante.

Simplemente pregúntale a Simón Pedro y a Andrés.

Lucas 5 nos dice que los dos hermanos habían estado pescando toda la noche. Si no capturaban peces, no ganaban dinero.

Pero en Lucas 5, ellos no pescaron nada. Para poner esto en la forma moderna, es como si el lago hubiera estado en recesión. Los hermanos se sentían desalentados y cansados.

Pero luego llega Jesús y hace lo imposible.

Después de tomar prestada su barca para enseñarles, Jesús le dice a Simón Pedro: “Lleva la barca hacia aguas más profundas y echen allí las redes para pescar” Lucas 5:4 (NVI).

La respuesta de Simón Pedro es típica de esos tiempos cuando la frustración ha llegado: “Maestro, hemos estado trabajando duro toda la noche y no hemos pescado nada” Lucas 5:5 (NVI). 

Todos hemos llegado a esta etapa. Hemos dado lo mejor de nosotros en nuestro trabajo y terminamos sin nada. Hemos hecho todo de la manera correcta y quizás hemos creído que Dios nos llevó a hacer lo que estamos haciendo, pero no tenemos nada que mostrar.

Entonces Jesús hace un milagro. Jesús no sólo satisface la necesidad de estos hombres. Los deja totalmente sorprendidos en el proceso.

La Biblia dice, “Así lo hicieron, y recogieron una cantidad tan grande de peces que las redes se les rompían” Lucas 5:6 (NVI).

No solamente pescan suficientes peces para ellos, sino que Dios les da lo suficiente para compartir.

Después de que Simón y Andrés hicieron lo que Jesús les dice que hagan, ellos recogen más peces en 10 minutos, que los que habían recogido en las 10 horas anteriores. Dios convierte un retraso en un avance.

Tu milagro debe estar también a la vuelta de la esquina.

Si has estado sin trabajo durante meses o años, o si has fracasado gravemente cinco veces seguidas, nada de eso importa.

Dios puede abrir un nuevo grifo más rápido que el que se cerró.

Y entonces puede que necesites un barco más grande.

God Says You Are Capable

“I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”

Philippians 4:13 (NLT)

Did you know that you are fully capable of becoming exactly who God made you to be? You are not incompetent. You are not a nobody. God says you are fully capable.

In fact, every believer in Christ is a priest: “You are royal priests . . . As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light” (1 Peter 2:9 NLT).

What are you supposed to do as a priest? God says, “I am sending you . . . to open their eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. Then they will receive forgiveness for their sins and be given a place among God’s people, who are set apart by faith in me” (Acts 26:17-18 NLT).

I developed The PEACE plan because of this truth that every believer is a priest. The PEACE Plan wasn’t created for pastors. It was created for every believer around the world to serve in the following ways: Promote reconciliation and plant churches, Equip ethical leaders where there’s corruption, Assist the poor where there’s poverty, Care for the sick where there’s disease and illness, and Educate the next generation where there’s illiteracy.

Because Christ lives in you, you are fully capable of doing these things. Your capability is not based on your own human power. Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength” (NLT). And 2 Corinthians 3:5 says, “Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God” (NIV).

But many people live with a gnawing sense of insecurity. They don’t feel capable. Why do people feel this way? One reason is that they’re still believing negative things people said to them years ago. But those things weren’t true then—and they aren’t true now.

Here’s what is true about you: You have God’s Spirit inside you, you’re a priest, and you can do everything through Christ’s strength. In him, you are fully capable.

No hay Relaciones Perfectas

“Sean siempre humildes y amables. Sean pacientes unos con otros y tolérense las faltas por amor”. Efesios 4:2 (NTV)

El devocional de hoy es de Tom Holladay, pastor de enseñanza en la Iglesia Saddleback.

No hay altibajos que sean mayores, que los altibajos de las relaciones personales. Puedes experimentar la alegría y la decepción a veces minutos uno del otro.

Cuando te encuentres luchando con las faltas de los demás, ve y busca a Dios con estas decepciones.

Las decepciones existen en nuestras relaciones porque ninguno de nosotros es perfecto. Tenemos una visión idealizada del amor, las relaciones y el matrimonio, y cuando la realidad no coincide con esta imagen, nos decepciona.

Nunca tendremos la boda perfecta, el matrimonio o la familia perfectos, porque somos personas imperfectas y pecaminosas. La idea de que dos personas imperfectas y pecaminosas pueden unirse y tener una relación perfecta no es realista. Necesitas ajustar tus expectativas.

Una de las razones por las que a menudo nos desilusionamos con nuestras relaciones es porque le pedimos a otro ser humano que satisfaga las necesidades que solo Dios puede satisfacer. Otro ser humano no puede comprometerse a que siempre estará contigo o que no te fallará. Solo Dios puede cumplir esas promesas. Él nos dice en su Palabra: “Nadie podrá hacerte frente mientras vivas. Pues yo estaré contigo como estuve con Moisés. No te fallaré ni te abandonaré” Josué 1:5 (NTV).

Cuando lleguemos al Cielo, no habrá más desilusión o dolor. Hasta entonces, puedes elegir el seguir amando. Como 1 Corintios 13:7 dice, “El amor nunca se da por vencido, jamás pierde la fe, siempre tiene esperanzas y se mantiene firme en toda circunstancia” (NTV).
