God Has Work for You

“It is God himself who has made us what we are and given us new lives from Christ Jesus; and long ages ago he planned that we should spend these lives in helping others."

Ephesians 2:10 (TLB)

God calls you to a service far beyond anything you could ever imagine. You were put on Earth to make a contribution.

God designed you to make a difference with your life. You weren’t created just to consume resources—to eat, breathe, and take up space. You were created to add to life on Earth, not just to take from it. God wants you to give something back—to help other people.

The Bible says, “It is God himself who has made us what we are and given us new lives from Christ Jesus; and long ages ago he planned that we should spend these lives in helping others” (Ephesians 2:10 TLB).  

Whenever you serve others in any way, you are actually serving God. As Colossians 3:23-24 says, “Do your work willingly, as though you were serving the Lord himself, and not just your earthly master. In fact, the Lord Christ is the one you are really serving, and you know he will reward you” (CEV).

In one of his parables, Jesus said, “The king will answer, ‘Whenever you did it for any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you did it for me’” (Matthew 25:40 CEV).

And the apostle Paul shared the same message: “Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people” (Ephesians 6:7 NLT).

God said it this way to the prophet Jeremiah in the Old Testament: “Before I made you in your mother’s womb, I chose you. Before you were born, I set you apart for a special work” (Jeremiah 1:5 NCV).

When most people think of this “special work,” they think of pastors, priests, and professional clergy. But God says that he expects every member of his family to minister. In the Bible, the words “servant” and “minister” are synonyms; “service” and “ministry” are synonyms too. If you are a Christian, you are a minister. And when you’re serving, you’re ministering.

Have you ever wondered why God didn’t just immediately take you to heaven the moment you accepted his grace? Why does he leave his children in a fallen world? He leaves you here to fulfill his purposes.

Once you are saved, God intends to use you for his goals. God has a ministry for you in his church and a mission for you in the world.

El Cielo te Está Animando

“Por lo tanto, ya que estamos rodeados por una enorme multitud de testigos de la vida de fe, quitémonos todo peso que nos impida correr, especialmente el pecado que tan fácilmente nos hace tropezar. Y corramos con perseverancia la carrera que Dios nos ha puesto por delante”. Hebreos 12:1 (NTV )

La ventaja de jugar como local puede significar todo en los deportes. Los equipos que juegan en “casa” suelen tener un historial mucho mejor que los que juegan como visitantes. Cuando un equipo tiene gente que le anima, a menudo puede superar su capacidad.

La Biblia dice que tú también tienes una audiencia que te anima. Hebreos 12:1 dice: “Por lo tanto, ya que estamos rodeados por una enorme multitud de testigos de la vida de fe, quitémonos todo peso que nos impida correr, especialmente el pecado que tan fácilmente nos hace tropezar. Y corramos con perseverancia la carrera que Dios nos ha puesto por delante” (NTV).

Nada de lo que haces es privado. Tienes una audiencia. El Cielo está mirando. Pero eso no debe asustarte. Debería animarte, porque significa que tienes una audiencia entusiasta. La Biblia dice que todos en el Cielo te están motivando.

Probablemente te das cuenta de que Dios lo sabe todo. La Biblia dice: “Los ojos del Señor recorren toda la tierra para fortalecer a los que tienen el corazón totalmente comprometido con él” 2 Crónicas 16:9 (NTV). El Señor no se pierde nada. Él conoce tus altibajos, cada pensamiento que tienes, cada preocupación, cada victoria, todo.

Pero también estás rodeado de “una gran multitud de testigos de la vida de fe”. Moisés te está mirando. Abraham te está mirando. Cada creyente que haya vivido está en las gradas observándote vivir tu fe.

Y te animan. Cuando tienes temor, te animan a ser valiente. Cuando quieres rendirte, te animan a seguir adelante. Cuando te sientes insignificante y olvidado, están a tu lado.

Todos, en algún momento, sienten que nadie cree en ellos, que parece que no pueden obtener un descanso o hacer algo bien. Cuando te sientas así, recuerda que nunca estás solo. Tu escuadrón celestial cree que puedes hacer cosas difíciles con la ayuda de Dios.

The Four Laws of God’s Blessing

“I will bless you . . . and you will be a blessing."

Genesis 12:2 (NIV)

Most Christians want to bless others through their gifts and resources. But it’s not just a desire. God commands you to be a blessing to others because you have been blessed.

As you look for ways to bless others, keep in mind the four laws of God’s blessing:

1. Your blessings should flow to others.
The Bible teaches that you are blessed not just so that you can feel good or so that you can be happy and comfortable. You are blessed so that you will bless others. God told Abraham in Genesis 12:2, “I will bless you . . . and you will be a blessing” (NIV). This is the first law of blessing: It must flow outwardly.

2. When you bless others, God takes care of your needs.
There’s almost nothing that God won’t do for the person who really wants to help other people. In fact, God guarantees that if you will concentrate on blessing others, he’ll take care of your needs.

In Luke 18:29-30, Jesus says, “I assure you that everyone who has given up house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the Kingdom of God, will be repaid many times over in this life, and will have eternal life in the world to come” (NLT).

When you care about helping other people, God assumes responsibility for your problems. And that’s a real blessing—because he’s much better at handling your difficulties than you are.

3. Your blessings to others will come back to you.
The more you bless other people and the more you help others, the more God blesses your life. Luke 6:38 says, “Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back — given back with bonus and blessing” (The Message).

You cannot out-give God. The more you try to bless other people, the more God says, “I’m going to pour blessings out on you. We’ll play a little game here. Let’s see who will win. Let’s see who can give the most. The more you bless others, the more I’m going to bless you in return.”

4. The more God blesses you, the more he expects you to help others.
Jesus said it this way in Luke 12:48: “Much is required from the person to whom much is given; much more is required from the person to whom much more is given” (GNT).

Never be afraid to share God’s blessings. The more generous you are with sharing what God’s given you, the more you’ll see God blessing you in return.

Dos Maneras de Enfrentar el Temor

“El amor perfecto echa fuera el temor”. 1 Juan 4:18 (NVI)

Todos tenemos temores. Tu problema no es que tengas temor. Es lo que haces con el temor lo que realmente importa. Jesús nos dice en Juan 8:32: “y conocerán la verdad, y la verdad los hará libres” (NVI).

Podría compartir al menos una docena de formas bíblicas para superar el temor, pero aquí hay dos ideas con las que puedes comenzar ahora mismo.

Practica la presencia de Jesús. Aprende el hábito de recordarte a ti mismo cada momento del día: “Dios está conmigo”. Practica hablar con Él todo el tiempo, cuando estés caminando por la calle, subiendo a tu automóvil o incluso tomando un baño. Cuando hagas eso, te darás cuenta de que siempre está contigo. No tienes que “pasar un tiempo” con Dios. Todo tu tiempo puede ser el “tiempo de Dios”. Cuando te das cuenta de la presencia de Dios en tu vida, el temor desaparecerá.

Cuando Dios está cerca, el temor se va. ¿Por qué? Porque Dios es amor, y la Biblia dice: “El amor perfecto echa fuera el temor” 1 Juan 4:18 (NVI). Cuanto más te sientas amado por Dios, menos temerás.

Muévete contra el temor. No puedes andar por ahí, detrás o delante del temor. Debes ir directamente a través de él. Necesitas hacer lo que más temes. Eso se llama fe. Necesitas abrir la puerta del armario y ver por ti mismo que el monstruo no es tan grande como pensabas que era.

El temor es siempre peor que la realidad. El temor al fracaso es peor que el fracaso. El fracaso no es gran cosa, solo levántate y comienza de nuevo. El temor al rechazo es peor que el rechazo. El temor a la vergüenza es peor que la vergüenza. ¿Por qué? Porque el temor se prolonga durante horas, días y años. El temor es “una falsa evidencia que parece real”. El temor es una falsedad.

Estas soluciones no solo te ayudarán a lidiar con el temor. Puedes usarlos para ayudar a otros, también. Es probable que conozcas a muchas personas que lidian con el temor en algún aspecto de sus vidas. Transmíteles estos principios.

What Will You Do with What You’ve Been Given?

“Each one, as a good manager of God’s different gifts, must use for the good of others the special gift he has received from God."

1 Peter 4:10 (GNT)

Do you know what purpose God created you for? Do you know what your destiny is?

To fulfill your destiny, you first must recognize the gifts God has given you to use. These gifts are basically the cards you are dealt in life. 

They include the things you can’t control, like your parents, your nationality, and your race. They also include your SHAPE— your spiritual gifts, heart, abilities, personality, and experiences. These are the things that make you uniquely you.

You’re responsible for making the most of these God-given gifts. But you’re not responsible for the gifts God didn’t give you. In other words, if you are not artistically gifted, you are not expected to paint pictures like Rembrandt. If you’re not mechanically minded, God likely won’t call you to bless your elderly neighbor with oil changes.

But God does expect you to use your own gifts for the good of others: “Each one, as a good manager of God’s different gifts, must use for the good of others the special gift he has received from God” (1 Peter 4:10 GNT).

When you get to heaven, God isn’t going to compare you with anyone else, but he will compare you with yourself. What did you do with what you were given? What could you have done if you had trusted God a little bit more? Romans 14:12 says, “Each of us will give an account of ourselves to God” (NIV). 

The Old Testament tells the story of Esther, a Hebrew woman who became queen and rescued her people. She had three assets that God gave her to fulfill her destiny. She was intelligent, physically beautiful, and had an engaging personality. Because of these qualities, “Esther won the favor of everyone who saw her . . . She won [the king’s] favor and approval more than any of the other virgins. So he set a royal crown on her head and made her queen” (Esther 2:15-17 NIV).

God gave Esther specific gifts for a purpose. In the same way, God has given you gifts for a purpose. And just like Esther, you have a responsibility to be a good steward of those gifts — not for selfish uses but for the good of others.

God used Esther’s gifts to save the Hebrew people from a potentially murderous king. How might God use your gifts to benefit other people?

Talk It Over

To know your destiny, you need to know your God-given gifts. Make a list of those gifts, including things like your family and culture and your SHAPE (spiritual gifts, heart, abilities, personality, and experiences).
Look at the list you just made. Ask yourself: “What things on this list does God want me to start using for the good of other people?”
You’re just responsible for your own gifts, not the gifts of other people. What are some practical ways to stop comparing yourself to others?

Jesús vino a Ayudar a las Personas que Sufren

“El Espíritu del Señor es sobre mí, Por cuanto me ha ungido para dar buenas nuevas a los pobres: Me ha enviado para sanar a los quebrantados de corazón; Para pregonar a los cautivos libertad, Y a los ciegos vista; Para poner en libertad a los quebrantados: Para predicar el año agradable del Señor”. Lucas 4:18-19 (RVA)

No puedes leer los evangelios sin ver lo importante que son las personas que sufren para Jesús.

Solamente tienes que observar cómo predicaba. Él siempre comenzaba con un sufrimiento –pobreza, ceguera, quebrantamiento, cautiverio. Puedes decir mucho sobre una prédica por como Jesús trataba el dolor.

Jesús lo mencionaba constantemente. ¿Por qué? Porque Él vino a compartir las buenas nuevas con las personas que sufren.

Cuando las personas se acercaban a Jesús, siempre lo hacían por una de estas tres razones: una necesidad, un sufrimiento o una pregunta. Jesús no los rechazaba. Nunca les dijo que debían venir por razones más apropiadas desde el punto de vista doctrinal. Se limitó a satisfacer sus necesidades.

De hecho, declaró en su primer sermón, al comenzar su ministerio público, que para eso había venido a la tierra.

“El Espíritu del Señor es sobre mí, Por cuanto me ha ungido para dar buenas nuevas a los pobres: Me ha enviado para sanar a los quebrantados de corazón; Para pregonar a los cautivos libertad, Y a los ciegos vista; Para poner en libertad a los quebrantados: Para predicar el año agradable del Señor” Lucas 4:18-19 (RVA).

Fíjate en la penúltima línea de esa Escritura: “Para poner en libertad a los quebrantados”. Es fácil pasarlo por alto, pero es de vital importancia para entender el corazón de Dios por las personas que sufren.

Cuando Dios creó la nación de Israel, estableció “el año agradable del Señor”, el cual también es llamado “El año del jubileo”.

Era un año en el que se cancelaban todas las deudas, se dejaba en libertad a todos los prisioneros, se liberaba a todos los esclavos y todas las tierras que se habían comprado en los 50 años anteriores volvían a su propietario original.

Pero aquí está la parte interesante del Año del Jubileo. En toda la historia de Israel, los hijos de Israel nunca lo cumplieron, ni una sola vez.

Esto enfureció a Dios. En el libro de Jeremías, Dios le dijo a Israel que iba a enviar a toda la nación al cautiverio porque el pueblo no había obedecido esto. Mientras estaban en el cautiverio, Isaías escribió las palabras anteriores que Jesús predicó en su primer sermón.

Así que cuando Jesús leyó las palabras de Isaías en la sinagoga de su ciudad natal, estaba proclamando audazmente esto: “Yo soy el Día del Jubileo, cuando se borran los pecados y las deudas de todos”.

Jesús vino a ayudar a las personas que sufren, ya sea que estén endeudadas, esclavizadas por el pecado, en cautiverio o las tres cosas.

Esas mismas personas heridas que Dios vino a sanar hace 2.000 años siguen aquí hoy. Y Jesús quiere que les sirvamos.

Jesús dice, “Les di mi ejemplo para que lo sigan. Hagan lo mismo que yo he hecho con ustedes” Juan 13:15 (NTV).

What Does It Mean to Be Made in God’s Image?

“God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son . . . We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him."

Romans 8:29 (The Message)

From the very beginning, God’s plan has been to make you like his Son, Jesus. God announced this intention at creation: “Then God said, ‘Let us make human beings in our image and likeness’” (Genesis 1:26 NCV).

In all of creation, only human beings are made in God’s image. It’s a great privilege—and it gives you dignity. 

What does it mean to be made in God’s image? It’s one of those concepts that’s too big to fully understand, but here’s some of what it means:

Like God, you are a spiritual being. Your spirit is immortal and will outlast your earthly body.You are intellectual. You can think, reason, and solve problems.You are relational. You can give and receive real love.You have a moral consciousness. You can discern right from wrong, which makes you accountable to God.

But there’s a problem: The image of God in you is incomplete and has been damaged and distorted by sin. So God sent Jesus on a mission to restore the full image that you—and everyone else ever born—have lost. 

What does the full “image and likeness” of God look like? It looks like Jesus Christ!

The Bible says: “God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son . . . We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him” (Romans 8:29 The Message).

The Bible says Jesus is “the exact likeness of God” (2 Corinthians 4:4 NLT), “the visible image of the invisible God” (Colossians 1:15 NLT), and “the exact representation of his being” (Hebrews 1:3 NIV).

People often use the phrase “like father, like son” to refer to family resemblance. When people see my likeness in my kids, it pleases me. In the same way, God wants his children to bear his image and likeness. The Bible says you were “created to be like God—truly righteous and holy” (Ephesians 4:24 NLT).

Live like an image bearer today so that when people look at you, they’ll think of how much you’re like your heavenly Father!

Cuando el Hijo te Libera . . .

“Si el Hijo los libera, serán ustedes verdaderamente libres”. Juan 8:36 (NVI)

Dios se preocupa por las personas en las prisiones alrededor del mundo. Por eso nos hemos esforzado tanto en Saddleback para llevar Celebremos la Recuperación —el ministerio de recuperación Cristo-céntrico— a las prisiones alrededor del mundo. Hemos visto a Dios hacer un trabajo increíble en los corazones de los prisioneros durante los últimos quince años.

Dios se preocupa acerca de los prisioneros, y nosotros también debemos preocuparnos.

Pero cuando Jesús dijo en Lucas 4:18 que Él vino “para pregonar a los cautivos libertad” (RVA), Él no solo estaba hablando de las prisiones físicas. Él estaba hablando sobre cualquier cosa que nos evita ser todo lo que Él quiere que seamos.

¿Cuáles son algunas de estas prisiones?

Adicciones y compulsiones: Cuando dices, “me siento atrapado”, estás hablando de una prisión en tu vida. Tal vez estás siendo prisionero de una sustancia, una persona, un evento o pornografía. Quieres cambiar, pero no puedes.Secretos: Ya sean secretos familiares o personales que no puedes decirle a nadie, ellos te encarcelan en una prisión auto impuesta. Los mantienes dentro de ti.Ignorancia: La mitad del mundo no puede leer o escribir. Sin la educación apropiada, están estancados en la pobreza. Aún si el mundo entero está conectado en internet, las personas están estancadas sin literatura.Temor: Este es el más grande. El temor evita que vivamos nuestro potencial. Cuando tenemos temor de intentar lo que no hemos hecho antes, limitamos a Dios y a nosotros mismos.

Jesús vino a libertarnos de estas prisiones —no importa por qué o dónde nos encerramos.

Asegúrate de esto: A Jesús le importas. Él quiere que seas libre.

Y Él tiene noticias increíbles para ti. Jesús dice: “Si el Hijo los libera, serán ustedes verdaderamente libres” Juan 8:36 (NVI).

Ese tipo de libertad está disponible para ti ahora mismo.

Cada día de tu vida estás o creciendo en libertad o creciendo en ataduras. Nunca te quedas quieto. Tu vida o se vuelve más amplia o más estrecha.

¿Hoy escucharás a los legalistas, a los perfeccionistas o a los que quieren quitarte la libertad? o escucharás a Jesús, que te ofrece hacerte “verdaderamente libre“.
