Seis Maneras en las que Dios Bendice un Corazón Quebrantado

“El Señor está cerca de los quebrantados de corazón, y salva a los de espíritu abatido”. Salmo 34:18 (NVI)

Cada uno de nosotros vamos a experimentar pérdidas en nuestra vida. Entonces, ¿cómo puede Dios sanar un corazón quebrantado? No debes tratar de evadir tu pérdida, no la puedes esquivar. Es necesario que aprendas a lidiar con el dolor. Y si tienes miedo de expresar tus emociones y prefieres evadir el proceso, esto te llevará al estancamiento.

Y ¿cómo puedes salir del estancamiento? Dejas que Dios te ayude. Hay seis maneras que Dios usa, para bendecir a los de corazón quebrantado.

Dios te acerca a Él.
Salmo 34:18 dice: “El Señor está cerca de los quebrantados de corazón, y salva a los de espíritu abatido” (NVI). Cuando sufres, a menudo sientes como si Dios estuviera a un millón de millas de distancia. Pero lo que sientes y lo que es real no siempre es la misma cosa. Dios no está a un millón de millas de distancia. De hecho, está más cerca que nunca.Dios sufre contigo.
La Biblia dice que Jesús fue un “hombre de dolores, conocedor del dolor más profundo” Isaías 53:3a (NTV). Cuando vienes a Jesús con tu dolor, Él sabe de lo que estás hablando y Él entiende tu dolor. Dios es un Dios doliente, y Él es un Dios compasivo. Él no está distante; Él no es apático. Dios no es un espectador a la distancia.Dios te dio una familia en la iglesia para apoyarte.
Nosotros hemos sido creados para compartir el dolor en comunidad. La sanidad viene cuando la compartimos en grupo. La sanidad ocurre en la iglesia. La sanidad llega en comunidad. ¡Somos Mejores Juntos!
“También nosotros, siendo muchos, formamos un solo cuerpo en Cristo, y cada miembro está unido a todos los demás… Ámense los unos a los otros con amor fraternal, respetándose y honrándose mutuamente… Alégrense con los que están alegres; lloren con los que lloran” Romanos 12:5,10,15 (NVI).Dios usa el dolor para ayudarte a crecer.
Dios se vale de la tristeza, e incluso del dolor, para ayudarte a que te parezcas más a Cristo, y lo hace de tres maneras. Dios usa el dolor para llamar tu atención (Proverbios 20:30). En segundo lugar, saca lo bueno de lo malo (Romanos 8:28). En tercer lugar, te prepara para la eternidad (2 Corintios 4:17-18). Dios te da la esperanza del Cielo.
Hay muchas personas que sufren sin esperanza. Tu vida en esta tierra es corta, pero si crees en Jesucristo y confías en Él para tu salvación, entonces tienes la esperanza de pasar la eternidad en el Cielo con Él y la esperanza te sostendrá a través de tus momentos de pérdida y dolor. La Biblia dice en 1 Tesalonicenses 4:13, “Hermanos, no queremos que ignoren lo que va a pasar con los que ya han muerto, para que no se entristezcan como esos otros que no tienen esperanza” (NVI).Dios usa tu dolor para ayudar a otros.
Esto se llama dolor redentor; es el mayor y mejor uso de la pérdida o dolor que has sufrido. Dios no quiere que desperdicies tu dolor. Dios “…nos consuela en todas nuestras tribulaciones para que con el mismo consuelo que de Dios hemos recibido, también nosotros podamos consolar a todos los que sufren” 2 Corintios 1:4 (NVI).

The Battle Against Evil Is Already Won

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

Romans 12:21 (NIV)

When you’re faced with evil, don’t return it. Overcome it.

This is opposite of human nature and what the world condones. When somebody hurts you, you want to hurt them back, right? When somebody hits you, you want to hit them back. When somebody slanders you, you want to slander against them.

But God says that is not the way you’re going to win the battle against evil. Romans 12:21 says, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (NIV). That is God’s way of winning the battle.

Jesus Christ came to Earth to show that you don’t destroy evil by retaliating; you destroy it by overcoming it with good.

The Bible says, “The Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8 NLT). Jesus came to obliterate evil. He came to wipe it out. Evil is going to end one day. It is not going to exist forever. One day God is going to close the books. He’s going to settle the score. He’s going to end history and take his family into eternity with him. 

If you want to be on the winning side, you better get on God’s side because evil is going to lose. Evil wins a few battles here and there, but the outcome of the war has been predetermined.

Good and evil are not equal in force or competition. It may feel like evil is stronger and that evil is winning. But love is far stronger than evil. Kindness is far stronger than evil. Good is much greater than evil. Good will win the day a hundred times over evil.

In the end, God and his followers will win. Good will triumph over evil because God is love, and his love will last forever.

Jesus said, “I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it” (Matthew 16:18 NLT).

You can use goodness to fight evil because this is God’s promise: You fight against evil with the confidence that God has already won the war. Evil is going to lose. Victory is assured!

Talk It Over

In what ways does it feel like evil is winning in the world?
How can you remind yourself of God’s promises when you are trying to overcome evil with good?

There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ

Father, you promise that, if I believe in Jesus, I will be forgiven. I ask for that forgiveness now. I know that I am a sinner and that only you can cancel the record of all the things I’ve done wrong.

Jesus Christ, I believe that you died to pay for my sins. I believe that you then rose again, breaking the power of death so that I can have eternal life with you in heaven. Thank you for saving me. Thank you that I don’t have to earn, deserve, or work for my salvation. It is your gift of grace. All I have to do is accept it.

Today I turn from my sins and invite you to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior.

I want to use the rest of my life to serve you. Thank you for loving me, saving me, and accepting me into your family. In your name I pray. Amen.

No tienes que ser Feliz todo el Tiempo

“Todo tiene su momento oportuno; hay un tiempo para todo lo que se hace bajo el Cielo… un tiempo para llorar, y un tiempo para reír; un tiempo para estar de luto, y un tiempo para saltar de gusto”. Eclesiastés 3:1,4 (NVI)

La vida es difícil. ¿Estarías de acuerdo con eso? A causa del pecado de Adán en el jardín del Edén, el mundo es imperfecto y nada trabaja correctamente. Tu cuerpo no trabaja perfectamente, el clima está desordenado, la economía no funciona perfectamente, ninguna relación es perfecta. La vida está llena de pérdidas.

Necesitas entender un par de verdades que te darán una mejor perspectiva mientras enfrentas las pérdidas inevitables en tu vida.

Primero, Dios no espera que estés feliz todo el tiempo.

Hay un mito de que los cristianos deberían estar siempre sonriendo, siempre felices, siempre alegres.

De hecho, la Biblia dice, “Todo tiene su momento oportuno; hay un tiempo para todo lo que se hace bajo el cielo… un tiempo para llorar, y un tiempo para reír; un tiempo para estar de luto, y un tiempo para saltar de gusto” Eclesiastés 3:1,4 (NVI).

Algunas veces la única respuesta lógica apropiada para la vida es la aflicción. La Biblia dice que te debes afligir por tus pérdidas, incluyendo tus desánimos, tus pecados, el sufrimiento en el mundo, y tus amigos quienes están perdidos espiritualmente. Dios no espera que estés feliz todo el tiempo. De hecho, Él quiere que tu dolor sea genuino. 

Segundo, el duelo es esencial para tu salud.

Si nunca te duele nada, significa una de tres cosas: Estás lejos de la realidad, estás fuera del alcance de tus emociones, o no sientes amor. Cuando amas y ves cosas tristes, el dolor es una respuesta natural.

El duelo es una emoción dolorosa, pero también es una emoción saludable. Y es un regalo de Dios. Es una herramienta que Dios nos da para pasar las transiciones de la vida.

Tal vez fuiste herido hace mucho tiempo cuando eras pequeño. Tal vez tus padres se divorciaron. Tal vez fuiste abusado. Ta vez fuiste herido por algo que alguien dijo de ti. Cuando niño, no sabías como llevar duelo de una forma saludable, solo lo guardabas dentro de ti.

Necesitas regresar y tener el duelo. ¿Por qué? Porque si no tienes el duelo, te atoras emocionalmente, y pasas el resto de tu vida reaccionando por algo que sucedió hace mucho tiempo y te descargas sobre las personas a tu alrededor. ¡eso no es saludable!

David habló sobre eso en este Salmo 32:3 “Mientras guardé silencio, mis huesos se fueron consumiendo por mi gemir de todo el día” (NVI).

Las cosas malas que te suceden no son tu elección. Pero el duelo sí es una elección. Podrás decir, “No me siento triste”. No todo lo que es útil y saludable se siente bien. Debes permitirte lamentar tus pérdidas para que puedas continuar con tu vida y recibir las bendiciones de Dios.

The Worst Thing About Hell

“I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.”

1 John 5:13 (NLT)

You probably have a picture that comes to mind when you think about what hell must be like. Your image likely has some red and black tones in it, a lot of fire, and maybe the devil looming over everything.

Hell is described in the Bible as a place of torment. Matthew 13:42 says it is a “blazing furnace, where the people will cry and grind their teeth with pain” (NCV).

That description sounds terrible, but do you know what the worst part of hell is? Hell is total separation from God, which means hell is the exact opposite of everything God is. 

The Bible says in 1 John 4:18, “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear” (NIV). The opposite of love is fear. Living without love means you’re scared to death all the time. That’s hell.

God is love, so there is no love in hell. God is light, so hell is complete darkness. God is good, so there is absolutely nothing good in hell. God is life, so that means hell is eternal death. God is gracious, so that means there’s no grace in hell.

Just think what eternity would be like without the joy of knowing God and being loved by him—an eternity without any joy at all.

It would be terrible—unthinkable, really. But that is the reality for anyone who does not choose to love and follow Jesus in this life. The Bible says, “If anyone does not love the Lord, let him be separated from God—lost forever!” (1 Corinthians 16:22 NCV).

If you go through your entire life saying, “I don’t want God in my life,” then that means you will also spend eternity without God. Whatever you choose on Earth is your forever choice.

But there is good news! There is a way for you to be absolutely certain you’re going to heaven and not hell. The Bible tells you how to settle your destiny: “I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life” (1 John 5:13 NLT).

You don’t have to guess or wonder about something that is inevitable and could happen at any moment. You can know for certain today that when you die, you will spend eternity in God’s presence. Don’t put it off any longer.

Talk It Over

Why do you think so many people put off deciding something so important when they know death could come at any moment?

Your sins separate you from God. And it is only God’s grace that can get you back into right relationship with him.

The Bible says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).

If you’re ready to make peace with your Creator, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, I don’t want my sin to separate me from you any longer. You have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior and the only way to eternal life. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today, I’m turning over every part of my life to your management.

“I want to live the way you created me to live and use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Tu Trabajo es un Canal, pero Dios es tu Proveedor

“Y mi Dios proveerá a todas sus necesidades, conforme a sus riquezas en gloria en Cristo Jesús”. Filipenses 4:19 (NBLA)

¿En qué pones tu confianza?

Poner tu confianza en una cuenta de banco, o en un trabajo o en inversiones, es algo que produce un dolor de cabeza, porque puedes perder todas esas cosas.

Tienes que poner tu confianza y seguridad en algo que no te puedan quitar: ¡Dios! Si quieres la bendición de Dios en tu vida, tienes que depender de las riquezas de Dios y no en las tuyas.

Aquí lo que la Biblia dice sobre las riquezas de Dios: “Y mi Dios proveerá a todas sus necesidades, conforme a sus riquezas en gloria en Cristo Jesús” Filipenses 4:19 (NBLA).

Tu seguridad no debería estar en un trabajo. Tu trabajo es un canal, pero Dios es tu proveedor. Si entiendes esto, tendrás mucho menos estrés en la vida. Déjame decirlo de nuevo: Tu trabajo es un canal, pero Dios es el proveedor para tu sustento.

Si abres la llave del agua en la cocina y no sale nada, ¿Qué harías? Dirías: “¡Vamos!; el mundo se ha quedado sin agua —no hay agua saliendo de la llave, así que no debe quedar nada en el mundo”.

Por supuesto que no. Sabrías que el problema no está en la fuente. Hay mucha agua en el mundo. El problema es el canal; ha sido bloqueado de alguna manera.

Si se bloquea un canal en tu vida y la “llave del agua” deja de funcionar, Dios puede abrir otra llave muy fácil. Si Dios cierra una puerta en tu vida, Él puede abrir otra puerta diferente. Y si se cierra esa puerta, Él puede abrir una ventana para que puedas entrar.

Dios no está limitado por tus habilidades y capacidades. Tu trabajo es un canal. Si crees que tu trabajo es el que te mantiene seguro financieramente, vas a estar inseguro toda tu vida. Tienes que entender que Dios es la fuente de tu sustento, y puedes depender de Él, porque Dios sabe exactamente lo que necesitas y como dártelo.

Los trabajos van y vienen. Las cuentas bancarias suben y bajan. Las economías crecen y decrecen. Los mercados pueden tener tendencias hacia arriba o hacia abajo, ¡no importa!

Puedes confiar en las riquezas de Dios para tener completa seguridad.

Where Will You Spend Eternity?

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16 (NIV)

Over the years, I have encountered people who want to deny the existence of evil. They think that people are basically good and by nature unselfish and that they naturally put the needs of others before their own.

I always wonder if those people have ever read the news! You don’t have to look far to see that the world is filled with broken relationships, broken promises, and sin. Evil is all around you—from world politics to local conflicts you can see hatred, bitterness, and corruption.

And because sin and evil exist, hell also exists.

What was true in Noah’s day is still true today: “The LORD observed the extent of human wickedness . . . and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. So the LORD was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart” (Genesis 6:5-6 NLT).

When God looks at all the wrong, evil things that are done in the world, it breaks his heart because he loves everyone and wants us to learn to love one another.

But God is also holy and just. He is perfect and cannot sin. So one day he will settle the score and right the wrongs: “He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with justice, and the nations with his truth” (Psalm 96:13 NLT).

Until then, God has given you free will so that you can choose to love him. He allows sin on Earth so that this choice is possible—but he does not allow any sin in heaven. Heaven is a completely perfect place.

If heaven is a perfect place, then that means only perfect people get to go there. Of course, that’s a problem—because you’re not perfect, and neither am I. No one is perfect!

If you’re made to last forever and you’re not perfect, you can’t go to a perfect place like heaven. So where will you go? The Bible says hell.

But thank God! He has made a way—through Jesus Christ, his Son—for you to join him in heaven: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son” (John 3:16-18 NIV).

Hell is real. So is heaven. Choose Christ, and there is no condemnation. The choice is yours!

Talk It Over

Why is it important to be straightforward about the existence of hell when you talk to people about the Gospel?
How would you respond to someone who asks, “Why do you believe hell exists?”

The Bible says, “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are” (Romans 3:22 NLT). If you’re ready to turn away from your sins and surrender your life to Jesus Christ, start by praying this simple prayer:

“Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is your Son. I believe that he died for my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust him as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Deja que Dios sea tu Defensor

“Sólo Dios me da tranquilidad; sólo él me da confianza. Sólo él me da su protección, sólo él puede salvarme; ¡jamás seré derrotado! Dios es mi salvador; Dios es mi motivo de orgullo; me protege y me llena de fuerza. ¡Dios es mi refugio! ”. Salmos 62:5-7 (TLA)

Siempre habrá personas en tu vida que te malinterpreten y personas a las que no les agradas. Siempre habrá personas que te critiquen, te juzguen, te ataquen y difundan rumores sobre ti.

Cuando te malinterpretan, tendrás una tendencia a entrar y defenderte. Cuando te atacan, tu primera reacción suele ser atacar también, igual que el resto de nosotros. Cuando las personas te critican, también quieres criticarlos. Cuando las personas te insultan, también quieres insultarlos.

No lo hagas deja que Dios sea tu defensor. Cada vez que estás siendo atacado, criticado, abatido o mal entendido, tienes dos opciones: puedes defenderte, o puedes dejar que Dios te defienda. ¿Quién crees que puede hacer un mejor trabajo defendiéndote? ¿Quién podrá? Dios puede.

Presta atención a esto: te pareces más a Cristo cuando no dices nada frente a los ataques, mentiras y críticas injustas. Eres muy parecido a Jesús cuando te quedas en silencio y lo dejas en las manos de Dios.

“Cuando lo insultaban, [Jesús] jamás contestaba con insultos, y jamás amenazó a quienes lo hicieron sufrir. Más bien, dejó que Dios lo cuidara y se encargara de todo, pues Dios juzga a todos con justicia” 1 Pedro 2:23 (TLA).

Incluso Jesús no se defendió ante su condena y persecución injusta. Confiaba en Dios que lo defendiera cuando más necesitaba y confiaba tener Su justicia final.

En la Biblia, el rey David fue criticado y atacado toda su vida. De hecho, durante la mayor parte de su vida, la gente quería matarlo porque estaban celosos de él.

En el Salmos 62:5-7, David dijo esto: “Sólo Dios me da tranquilidad; sólo él me da confianza. Sólo él me da su protección, sólo él puede salvarme; ¡jamás seré derrotado! Dios es mi salvador; Dios es mi motivo de orgullo; me protege y me llena de fuerza. ¡Dios es mi refugio!” (TLA).

Muchas personas también van a estar celosas de tu éxito y querrán atacarte por muchas razones diferentes. Pero al igual que David, debes dejar que Dios sea tu protector, tu Salvador, tu defensor, tu vencedor y tu refugio.

Deja que Dios se encargue. Deja que sea tu defensor.

Don’t Waste Your One Chance at Heaven

“We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.”

2 Corinthians 5:8 (NKJV)

A few days ago, we talked about four eternal realities that I want you to understand so that you appreciate why you need to choose heaven. But there’s one more eternal reality you need to know: There is no second chance after you die.

You get to choose where you’re going to spend eternity. But you have to choose now while you’re alive, not after you’re dead. There is no going back! God gives you an entire lifetime to make the right decision. If you keep putting it off, then there will be no second chance to get it right once you have died.

There is no halfway house between heaven and hell. There’s no intermediate state. There’s no limbo. There is no purgatory.

Did you know that the word “purgatory” is not in the Bible? It’s not a biblical idea. It’s something that was created 800 years ago in the Middle Ages. In fact, Catholics don’t even believe it anymore. Pope John Paul II stated publicly that purgatory is not a real place, and the word “purgatory” isn’t even in today’s Catholic catechism.

When Jesus was dying on the cross, there was a man next to him who had been a criminal his entire life. In his last seconds, the man surrendered his life to Jesus and said, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom” (Luke 23:42 NKJV). All he knew about salvation was that Jesus could save him. He didn’t know all the doctrines or theology. He didn’t know all the “right” words. He just said “yes” to Jesus. 

Because of his faith, Jesus says to him, “Today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43 NIV).

To get into heaven, all it takes on your part is saying “yes” to Jesus Christ. That’s it! The promise is that you are then guaranteed to be with God instantly when you die and to spend eternity in the joy of his presence.

But you have only one life and one chance to make that choice to follow Jesus. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:8, “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord” (NKJV).

God has done everything to make sure you get into heaven. Now you have to do your part to ensure you partake of his promise.

You’ve got one chance to make a choice for eternity. Don’t waste it!

Are you ready to say “yes” to Jesus?

The Bible says, “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are ” (Romans 3:22 NLT). If you’re ready to turn away from your sins and surrender your life to Jesus Christ, start by praying this simple prayer:

“Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is your Son. I believe that he died for my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust him as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Cómo confiar en Dios en un Tiempo de Espera

“Pero yo he puesto toda mi confianza en el Señor; yo confío en que Dios me salvará de cualquier peligro, y estoy seguro que siempre escucha mis ruegos”. Miqueas 7:7 (NBV)

La Biblia es clara cuando dice que vivimos la vida en temporadas, y una de las temporadas de las que Dios habla una y otra vez, es la temporada de la espera.

Mientras esperas, Dios está trabajando. No pienses que una temporada de espera significa que Dios ha dejado de trabajar. Él solo te está llevando a través de esa temporada porque está usando el tiempo para trabajar en tus circunstancias para tu bien.

Vas a pasar mucho tiempo en la vida, esperando. Si no descubres cómo confiar en Dios mientras esperas, pasarás gran parte de tu vida sin confiar en Dios.

Dios nunca tiene prisa. ¡Él es eterno! Él está mirando. Él está trabajando. Él está viendo cómo y cuándo confiarás en Él mientras esperas. Estás diciendo: “¿Cuándo, Señor? ¿Cuándo va a suceder?” Y Dios está diciendo: “Puedes confiar en mí para todo”.

El problema con la espera es que nuestra naturaleza humana y nuestra sociedad dicen: “¡No esperes! Consigue las cosas tan rápido como puedas”.

Esa es la forma en que nuestra cultura está conectada, pero va en contra de la bendición de Dios en nuestras vidas, porque la bendición de Dios llega a través de estos tiempos de espera. Eclesiastés 3:11 dice “Dios lo hizo todo hermoso para el momento apropiado” (NTV).

¿Estás en un tiempo de espera? Tal vez sea para que termines la escuela. Tal vez sea para que la “persona correcta” llegue a tu vida. Tal vez sea para que un matrimonio ocurra o un bebé llegue o una nueva oportunidad de trabajo se presente. Y puede que te sientas frustrado por la lentitud con que están sucediendo las cosas. Todos hemos estado allí.

Hay una promesa en la Biblia que te dice, que Dios no solo está obrando, sino también cómo está obrando Dios, y necesitas reclamarla mientras estás en tu tiempo de espera: “Yo soy el Señor; cuando llegue el momento, actuaré sin demora” Isaías 60:22 (NVI).

Así es como Dios obró cuando envió a Jesús a este mundo. El mundo esperó miles de años para que Jesús viniera la primera vez. Y llegó en el momento justo.

Hemos estado esperando 2.000 años para que Jesús vuelva otra vez. ¿Cuándo sucederá eso? En el momento justo, el tiempo de Dios. Ahí es cuando va a volver.

Puedes aplicar esto a tu tiempo de espera y recordar que un retraso no es una negación. Cuando piensas que Dios está diciendo que no, puede que Él simplemente esté diciendo: “Todavía no. ¿Seguirás confiando en mí a través de todo eso?”.

Miqueas 7:7 dice: “Pero yo he puesto toda mi confianza en el Señor; yo confío en que Dios me salvará de cualquier peligro, y estoy seguro que siempre escucha mis ruegos” (NBV).

Ese es el tipo de fe que Dios bendice.

The House Rules of Heaven

“I am now giving you the choice between life and death, between God’s blessing and God’s curse, and I call heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Choose life.”

Deuteronomy 30:19 (GNT)

People ask all the time, “How could a loving God send people to hell?”

Let’s suppose you’re addicted to drugs and living on the street. Your life is falling apart because of addiction, and you don’t have a home or even a place to eat or bathe.

Then someone comes along and says, “Let me help you out. I will take you to my house and help you get cleaned up and give you a new set of clothes and a good meal. And you can live at my house. You can become part of my family. In fact, I’m going to adopt you. You can take my name! I’m going to pay off all your debts. You can even have my credit card and access to the entire resources of my family. You don’t have to earn it or work for it. I’m doing this simply because I love you and want to show you grace.

“However, if you live in my house as a part of my family, there are some house rules that you have to follow. We respect each other and help out with responsibilities around the house. And we don’t do drugs in this house.” 

Is it reasonable to expect you to abide by the family’s house rules? Of course. If they’re extending an offer like that, the least they can expect is for you to respond to grace by showing respect.

You may choose to say, “Thank you, but I’m going to choose to live on the street because I don’t want to walk away from the drugs. I’m not willing to give them up to be part of your family.” 

If you turn down the offer, the fault is on you for the effects of your choice, not on the person who extended grace. That person did the loving thing to offer to help you get out of the situation. You cannot say that they were being unloving.

God doesn’t send people to hell. People choose to go there.

When you choose to follow Jesus, there is only one house rule: Jesus has already paid for your ticket into heaven. He’s already forgiven you! All you’ve got to do is accept it.  

If you want to do your own thing and reject God’s offer of grace, then he is not being unloving. You are choosing to ruin your life.

God has the right to make house rules for his home in heaven. The choice to follow is up to you.

God wants to spend eternity with you

Though God wants to spend eternity with you, your sin separates you from him, and there’s nothing you can do to make things right. So you need someone to save you from your sins and make you acceptable to God.

That’s why God sent Jesus. Jesus’ death on the cross paid for every wrong you’ve ever done or will do. Jesus made it possible for you to have a relationship with God the Father. The Bible says, “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are ” (Romans 3:22 NLT).

You can start your journey with Jesus by believing in him and confessing your sins. If you’re ready to surrender your life to Jesus Christ, start by praying this simple prayer: “Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is your Son. I believe that he died for my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust him as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will.
