Great Dreams Require Great Faith

“‘I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

Dreaming plays an essential role in developing your faith and helping you become the kind of person God made you to be. There’s an important connection between dreaming and believing, between your imagination and your growth. Without a dream, you get stuck. But with God-inspired dreams, you have almost limitless possibilities.

Your dreams profoundly shape your identity, your happiness, your achievements, and your fulfillment. But God-inspired dreaming offers far more than just these benefits. Dreaming has eternal implications too.

Dreaming is always the first step in the process God uses to change your life for the better. Everything starts as a dream!

In many ways, a great dream is a statement of faith. You’re saying, “I believe that things can change and can be different, and I believe that God will enable me to accomplish it.” When you trust God, it always makes him happy. 

The Bible says, “Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him” (Hebrews 11:6 NIV).

Dreaming is the step that gets the ball rolling. It is a catalyst for personal change. And it’s those internal changes that God is most concerned about; they prepare you for life with him in eternity.

So first, God gives you a dream for your life. Then, you have to make a decision about it. The third stage is delay, where you wait for God to work in his time. The next stage is difficulty, where God tests you. Then, you might reach a dead end, which will make you want to give up. But in the end, God always brings you to deliverance, the final stage of his six phases of faith.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll look at this process that God uses to grow your faith and develop your character. This faith-building process is illustrated over and over in the lives of people in the Bible. And it will be repeated over and over in your life as God moves you toward spiritual and emotional maturity.

You will find no greater fulfillment than when you’re doing what God created you to do. Pursuing God’s dream for your life won’t be easy, and it won’t be quick—but it will be worth it.

No Tienes que Vivir con Miedo

“Dios es amor. El que permanece en amor, permanece en Dios, y Dios en él… el amor perfecto echa fuera el temor”. 1 Juan 4:16, 18 (NVI)

Los contratiempos vendrán a tu camino. No puedes evitarlos. Puedes perder un trabajo, una relación o tu salud. Y cuando eso pasa, empiezas a temer.

Pero no tienes que quedarte con miedo. Aquí hay dos pasos importantes que debes seguir para liberarte del miedo:

Recuerda cuánto te ama Dios. Él nunca dejará de amarte. No te amará más ni menos. Su amor es incondicional y eterno. La Biblia dice : “Dios es amor. El que permanece en amor, permanece en Dios, y Dios en él… el amor perfecto echa fuera el temor” 1 Juan 4:16, 18 (NVI).

Cuando invitas a Dios a entrar por la puerta principal de tu vida, el miedo sale por la puerta trasera. El amor y el miedo no pueden permanecer juntos. En el amor verdadero, no hay miedo.

Dios es amor perfecto, y Él expulsa todo temor. Cuanto más conozcas a Dios, menos miedo tendrás.

Recuerda que el plan de Dios es bueno. Dios no tiene malos planes para ti. Eso no significa que nada malo te pasará. Pero la Biblia nos dice en Romanos 8:28, “Sabemos que Dios dispone todas las cosas para el bien de quienes lo aman, los que han sido llamados de acuerdo con su propósito” (NVI).

La Biblia dice que “todas las cosas” se ajustan al buen plan de Dios, no solo las cosas buenas. Él puede y sacará algo bueno de cualquier cosa.

Cuando Jesús murió en la cruz, Dios sacó tremendo bien de lo malo. Cualquiera puede sacar algo bueno de lo bueno. Dios se especializa en sacar lo bueno de lo malo.

Ambas verdades giran en torno a esta: debes elegir la fe sobre el miedo. Cuando estás pasando por un revés, confiar en que Dios te ama y tiene un plan para ti no es fácil, pero es el único camino a seguir.

Si estás cansado de estar en prisión y quieres atravesar la puerta de la libertad, puedes hacer una simple oración de fe hoy. Solo di: “Señor, te traigo las cosas que me han aprisionado, cosas de las que me he avergonzado, remordimientos, resentimientos y preocupaciones. Ya no quiero vivir de esa manera. Quiero vivir una vida de libertad. Hoy quiero pasar por la puerta de la libertad: tu Hijo, Jesucristo. Por mucho que sepa, quiero seguirte. Te pido que vengas a mi vida y me llenes de tu amor y de tu Espíritu. Saca todo el miedo. Saca todo el dolor. Lléname con un nuevo sentido de esperanza. Ya no quiero vivir en prisión. Quiero atravesar las puertas de la oportunidad que has planeado para mí. Te pido hoy que me salves y que me aceptes en tu familia. Te pido esto en tu nombre. Amén”.

Do You Have a Room in God’s House?

“There are many rooms in my Father's house, and I am going to prepare a place for you. I would not tell you this if it were not so. And after I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to myself, so that you will be where I am.”

John 14:2-3 (GNT)

The night before he went to the cross, Jesus wasn’t focused on the agony and pain he was about to go through. He was thinking about you. And this is what he said: “There are many rooms in my Father’s house, and I am going to prepare a place for you. I would not tell you this if it were not so. And after I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to myself, so that you will be where I am” (John 14:2-3 GNT).

Jesus said he was going to prepare a room in heaven for everyone who believes in him. The God who can create the universe with a few words has been taking 2,000 years to prepare an eternal home for you. It’s going to blow your mind. It won’t be anything like you could possibly imagine!

The world is a beautiful place. I’ve been in 165 countries in the last 40 years. I’ve seen some amazing scenery—sunsets and waterfalls and mountains and jungles and all kinds of beauty. Even in all its brokenness, it still contains some incredible sights. If a broken place can still be so beautiful, imagine what a place of perfection will be like. I can’t even explain it to you. 

In fact, that’s what the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 2:9: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him” (GW). 

We can’t comprehend just how wonderful heaven will be for those who have made Jesus the Lord of their lives. But I do know this: It’s a place of perfection, where we will joyfully be in the presence of God. And I want you to be there. Jesus wants you to be there! He gave his life so you could be there. 

However, going to heaven is not automatic. God gives you the choice to love him. He doesn’t force you to love him, as if you were some sort of robot. He’s given you the freedom to choose him. But, in order to get into God’s family home—heaven—you first need to join God’s family through faith in Jesus Christ. 

I look forward to seeing all my brothers and sisters in our perfect, eternal home, where we can worship God, work together, and enjoy all that he has prepared for us.

Talk It Over

I know I have sinned against you, and I have lived by my plan, not yours. I want that to change, starting right now. I want to turn away from my sins and toward you.

“Thank you for sending Jesus to die for all that I’ve done wrong so that I don’t have to pay the penalty. I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness. I know only your grace can save me, Lord. I could never be good enough to get into a perfect place.

“Jesus, thank you for loving me so much that you took all my guilt on yourself. You made me acceptable for heaven, and I ask you to save me. I believe in you, Jesus. And I believe you will keep your promise to save me instantly, certainly, completely, and eternally. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Cómo Elegir la Fe Sobre el Miedo

“Al atardecer de aquel primer día de la semana, estando reunidos los discípulos a puerta cerrada por temor a los judíos, entró Jesús y, poniéndose en medio de ellos, los saludó. —¡La paz sea con ustedes!”. Juan 20:19 (NVI)

 El miedo siempre te limita. No puedes experimentar lo mejor de Dios para ti si vives con miedo.

Piensa en la primera noche de Pascua hace casi 2000 años. Los discípulos no habían visto a Jesús, pero oyeron que había resucitado de entre los muertos. No sabían si podían creer las noticias o no. ¡Estaban muertos de miedo!

La Biblia lo describe así: “Al atardecer de aquel primer día de la semana, estando reunidos los discípulos a puerta cerrada por temor a los judíos, entró Jesús y, poniéndose en medio de ellos, los saludó. —¡La paz sea con ustedes!” Juan 20:19 (NVI).

Fíjate que cerraron las puertas porque tenían miedo. Eso es lo que hace el miedo. Te deja fuera de todas las puertas por las que Dios quiere que pases.

Tal vez te rompieron el corazón y te dices a ti mismo que nunca dejarás que nadie se acerque a ti de nuevo.

Tal vez te arriesgaste en un nuevo trabajo y fracasaste. Ahora no querrás volver a intentar una nueva carrera profesional.

Tal vez una iglesia te ha lastimado y por eso has excluido a Dios de tu vida.

No puedes protegerte del dolor. Es una tontería siquiera intentarlo, porque vivimos en un planeta quebrantado por el pecado.

Mi amigo Rick Muchow tenía todas las razones para estar asustado cuando descubrió que tenía un cáncer cerebral inoperable. Pero en lugar del miedo, Rick siempre elige la fe.

Le preguntan todo el tiempo cómo ha lidiado con el miedo desde el diagnóstico. Me encanta su respuesta. Menciona seis recursos específicos que lo han ayudado a él y que también pueden ayudarte a ti hoy:

La presencia de Dios. Rick conoce a Dios como un amigo personal y cercano y no como una deidad distante.Una historia de ver a Dios en acción. You Can’t Lose What Jesus Has Secured

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.”

John 10:27-28 (ESV)

Like any loving father, God doesn’t want to lose any of his children. And there are a lot of evil forces in the world that would like to try to hurt his children. Why? Because if they can hurt God’s children, then they can hurt God. 

It is common for people who want to give their lives to Christ to be afraid they won’t be able to keep that commitment. They say, “There are so many temptations in my life, I’m doubting that I can keep myself saved.” 

But just as you can’t save yourself from your sins, you can’t keep yourself saved. That is Jesus’ job. He has made sure that no matter what happens in your life, your salvation is secure. He has ensured that you will make it safely to heaven to live with God forever.

Jesus says in John 10:27-28, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand” (ESV).

There may be times you want to let go of God’s hand, but he will never let go of you. That’s called eternal security, and it’s Jesus’ job, not yours.

The apostle Paul said of Jesus, “I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return” (2 Timothy 1:12 NLT).

This is what Jesus is doing in the world right now: He is safeguarding your salvation. He’s protecting the salvation of everybody who has chosen to become part of God’s family by faith. 

You can lose a lot of things in life. You may lose your family, your job, your health, or your mind. But the one thing you can never lose is your salvation.

You don’t have to work for your salvation, and you don’t have to work to keep it. You can rest in God’s work for you!

Talk It Over

Your salvation is secure in Jesus

The Bible says you can only get to heaven by trusting in God’s Son, Jesus Christ. You can’t earn your way into heaven: “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).

If you’re ready to commit your life to Jesus, start with this prayer:

“Dear God, you have promised that if I believe in your Son, Jesus Christ, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess I have sinned, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died to take away my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Tres Razones por las que Debes Aprender a Perdonar

“Si no perdonan a otros sus ofensas, tampoco su Padre les perdonará a ustedes las suyas” . Mateo 6:15 (NVI)

El perdón no es fácil. Puede ser una de las decisiones más difíciles que tomarás.

Pero nunca tendrás la vida que Dios quiere para ti a menos que puedas perdonar a las personas que te han lastimado. Aquí hay tres razones por las que es esencial perdonar a los demás:

Perdonamos porque Dios nos ha perdonado. Cuando vienes a Cristo, tus pecados no solo son perdonados. ¡Están borrados! Dios ya no tiene registro de tus pecados.

La Biblia dice: “Por lo tanto, ya no hay ninguna condenación para los que están unidos a Cristo Jesús, pues por medio de él la ley del Espíritu de vida me ha liberado de la ley del pecado y de la muerte” Romanos 8:1-2 (NVI).

Cada persona se enfrenta a un círculo vicioso, donde quieren cambiar, pero cometen un error y se sienten mal por ello. Luego lo intentan de nuevo, fallan y se sienten mal por eso otra vez. Es un ciclo que probablemente no romperán hasta que aprendan a ofrecer perdón a las personas que les han lastimado porque a nosotros mismos nos han ofrecido el perdón a través de Cristo.

Perdonamos porque el resentimiento nos hará miserables. Aferrarse a una herida es como beber veneno y esperar que mate a la persona que odias. Siempre te duele y te hace más daño a ti que a la otra persona.

Conozco personas que continúan siendo lastimadas por personas que no han visto en décadas. Eso es una tontería. Esas personas ya no pueden lastimarte sin tu permiso.

Puedes elegir ser feliz, o puedes aferrarte al dolor. No puedes hacer ambas cosas.

Perdonamos porque necesitaremos más perdón en el futuro. No has terminado de cometer errores. Yo tampoco. Planeo cometer algunos errores más durante el resto de mi vida. Y, por supuesto, ¡necesitaré que alguien me perdone cuando los haga!

Una vez alguien se acercó al teólogo británico del siglo XVIII John Wesley y le habló de una persona a la que no podía perdonar. Wesley le dijo al hombre: “Entonces espero que nunca peques”.

No podemos recibir lo que no estamos dispuestos a dar a los demás. Jesús lo dice así: “Si no perdonan a otros sus ofensas, tampoco su Padre les perdonará a ustedes las suyas” Mateo 6:15 (NVI).

Perdonar a las personas que te han lastimado no es solo lo correcto. Es lo más inteligente que puedes hacer.

Jesus Is Praying for You

“My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given me, because they belong to you. All who are mine belong to you, and you have given them to me, so they bring me glory.”

John 17:9-10 (NLT)

Did you know that Jesus is praying for you constantly? The Bible says over and over again that Jesus is praying for you all the time.

“Wait a minute,” you might be thinking, “Isn’t Jesus God? How can he pray to himself?”

But think about it: You talk to yourself all the time! That’s because you are made in God’s image. Jesus is God; he’s part of the Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And he is talking to himself about you all the time. You are so precious to him. You are the object of his affection. Of course he is thinking about you and talking about you. He cares for you that much!

Even before Jesus died on the cross, he was praying for you. John 17:9-10 says, “My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given me, because they belong to you. All who are mine belong to you, and you have given them to me, so they bring me glory” (NLT).

God is constantly hearing Jesus say, “Help him, Lord. Help her, Lord. Help them, Lord.” This is called interceding, and it means to advocate on behalf of somebody. Anytime you pray for someone else, that’s called intercession. You can intercede for others, and that’s what Jesus does for you.

Jesus Christ has been interceding for you every moment of your life. He can do that because he’s God. He doesn’t get confused. He doesn’t get overwhelmed. Your circumstances aren’t too much for him. He is your Advocate who sits at the right hand of the Father in heaven, “who also makes intercession for us” (Romans 8:34 NKJV). That means that every time you stumble or sin, Jesus leans over and reminds the Father that he already paid for that one. It’s covered.

Because Jesus is interceding for you, you can pray a simple prayer anytime, even if you don’t know what else to pray. Just say, “Jesus, thank you for praying for me right now, because I’m really struggling.”

You can pray to Jesus. You can pray in Jesus’ name. And you can find comfort in knowing that Jesus is always for you.

If you’re ready to make peace with your Creator, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, I don’t want my sin to separate me from you any longer. You have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. You have promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I believe you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today, I’m turning over every part of my life to your management.

“I want to live the way you created me to live and use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Libérate de la Falta de Perdón

“Hay quienes mueren en la flor de la vida, rebosantes de salud y de paz… Otros mueren con el ánimo amargado, sin haber disfrutado de lo bueno”. Job 21:23, 25 (NVI)

Dios pondrá oportunidades frente a ti, puertas que solo tú puedes abrir. Pero no puedes atravesarlas si albergas falta de perdón. La falta de perdón es una prisión.

Permíteme compartir contigo una historia que ilustra vívidamente esto.

En la víspera de Navidad de 1979, cuando Danny Duchene era un adolescente, se enteró de que sus padres habían sido arrestados y encarcelados en México por contrabando de cocaína. La noticia lo llenó de miedo e ira. Condujo hasta un estacionamiento vacío y se drogó en su automóvil. Al darse cuenta de que las drogas le brindaban un alivio temporal al dolor, empezó a hacerlo todos los días.

A medida que crecía su adicción, también lo hacían su ira y su ansiedad, lo que lo llevó a tomar decisiones cada vez más arriesgadas hasta que un día participó en un crimen en el que fue responsable de la muerte de dos hombres.

Danny no sabía que la prisión se convertiría en un lugar de rescate. Antes de recibir una cadena perpetua doble, Danny entregó su vida a Jesús. Eventualmente, a través del programa “Celebrando la Recuperación”, Danny aprendió a pedir perdón y aceptar el perdón, de sí mismo y de sus padres.

En la víspera de Navidad del 2014, 35 años después de que encarcelaran a sus padres en México, Danny salió de prisión y se convirtió en pastor de la Iglesia Saddleback. Hoy, más de tres décadas después de que le dijeran que pasaría el resto de su vida en prisión, está ayudando a los prisioneros de todo el país a encontrar esperanza y sanidad a través de Jesucristo.

Antes de poder atravesar la puerta de la oportunidad, Danny tuvo que salir de la prisión de la amargura.

La Biblia nos dice: “Hay quienes mueren en la flor de la vida, rebosantes de salud y de paz… Otros mueren con el ánimo amargado, sin haber disfrutado de lo bueno” Job 21:23, 25 (NVI).

Tienes una opción. Puedes aferrarte a la falta de perdón y la amargura, o puedes experimentar la vida que Dios te está llamando a vivir.

No puedes tener ambos.

Puedes pensar que la persona que te lastimó no merece tu perdón. Tienes razón, pero tú tampoco mereces el perdón.

Efesios 4:32 dice: “Sean bondadosos y compasivos unos con otros, y perdónense mutuamente, así como Dios los perdonó a ustedes en Cristo” (NVI).

El perdón no es fácil. Pero es la única forma de entrar en la vida que Dios quiere para ti.

What in the World Is God Doing?

“God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.”

Ephesians 1:5 (NLT)

God is always at work in the world. But the most important thing he’s doing is building a family to love forever.

God has been planning his family since before he created the universe. In fact, if God had not wanted a family, the entire universe would not exist! Everything else that has happened in history and that’s still happening is peripheral to the overarching purpose of the universe: God wanted a family. 

Ephesians 1:5 says, “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure” (NLT).

There are only two ways you can get into a physical family: You’re either born into it or you’re adopted into it. God uses both ways as symbols of salvation in the Bible. When you put your faith in Jesus Christ, you are born again and adopted into God’s family. 

Every human family is temporary. But God’s family, your spiritual family—the church—is permanent. It’s eternal. It’s going to last forever because it’s made up of all the people who have put their faith in Jesus Christ to save and transform them.

The Bible says in Hebrews 2:11, “Jesus and the people he makes holy all belong to the same family. This is why he isn’t ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters” (CEV).

Did you get that? Jesus wants to call you his sister or brother! 

Becoming a part of God’s family is a free gift. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (NLT). But it’s also a choice that you need to make by faith. You can choose to accept or reject his offer of salvation.

Jesus gave his life for you by dying on the cross so you could have your past forgiven, a purpose for living, and a home in heaven. 

God the Father wants his family to become more like him. So, when you accept his gift of salvation, you commit to not only love God with all your heart but also love everybody else in his family—because God is love.

God is always at work building his family. That means you can join it anytime!

No matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been, you’ve got a place in God’s forever family ready and waiting for you. Just believe and receive.

Are you ready? Start by praying this simple prayer: “Dear God, I know when I die, I’m going to give an account of my life to you. I know I have sinned against you, and I have lived by my plan, not yours. I want that to change, starting right now. I want to turn away from my sins and toward you.

“Thank you for sending Jesus to die for all that I’ve done wrong so that I don’t have to pay the penalty. I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness. I know only your grace can save me, Lord. I could never be good enough to get into a perfect place.

“Jesus, thank you for loving me so much that you took all my guilt on yourself. You made me acceptable for heaven, and I ask you to save me. I believe in you, Jesus. And I believe you will keep your promise to save me instantly, certainly, completely, and eternally. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Ya No Necesitas Fingir

“Caminaré en libertad, porque me he dedicado a tus mandamientos”. Salmo 119:45 (NTV)

Conozco a mucha gente a la que le gusta fingir.

No estoy hablando de niños que juegan a imaginarse cosas. Me refiero a los adultos que intentan fingir que son otra persona para obtener la aprobación de los demás.

Tal vez ese seas tú. Tal vez has estado fingiendo durante tanto tiempo que ya no sabes quién eres realmente. Llevas una máscara y te estás desgastando. Todos los demás piensan que tienes mucho dinero, mucha alegría y mucho tiempo.

Pero tú sabes la realidad y estás exhausto.

Las redes sociales exageran el problema. Es la herramienta más grande hoy en día que nos encierra en un mundo ficticio. Si publicas una imagen de un gran amanecer hoy, debes publicar una imagen mejor mañana.

No publicas una foto tuya cinco minutos después de despertarte. Sin embargo, ese es tu verdadero yo.

En cambio, solo finges que eres algo o alguien que no eres.

La mayoría de la gente finge por una de dos razones.

Algunos caen en la trampa de complacer a la gente, y deseas cumplir con sus expectativas y cumplir con sus propósitos en sus vidas.

Pero incluso Dios no puede complacer a todos, y es una tontería intentar algo que Dios ni siquiera puede hacer. Mientras una persona ora por la lluvia, otra ora por la luz del sol. Alguien siempre va a ser infeliz.

Otras personas caen en la trampa del perfeccionismo. Ahí es cuando piensas que debes ser perfecto para ser amado.

Pero el problema es que tú te conoces mejor. Sabes que no eres perfecto. Así que solamente finges.

¿Cuál es el antídoto para dejar de fingir? Dejas de enfocarte en lo que otros piensan y comienzas a enfocarte en lo que Dios piensa.

Solo una persona te conoce por completo, te ama incondicionalmente y sabe exactamente para qué fuiste creado: Dios. Vivir para Dios en lugar de vivir para la aprobación de los demás simplifica tu vida. Cuando haces eso, vives para la audiencia de uno, en lugar de 50 o más.

La Biblia lo dice así: “Caminaré en libertad, porque me he dedicado a tus mandamientos” Salmo 119:45 (NTV).

La libertad llega cuando buscas la aprobación de Dios y de nadie más. No necesitas ganarte Su amor. No necesitas ser perfecto para complacerlo. No puedes comprar Su aprobación o fingir tu camino hacia la libertad.

Dios sabe todo lo que has hecho y te ama completa e incondicionalmente.

Ya no necesitas fingir.
