The Great Commission: Let’s Finish the Task!

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV)

Jesus didn’t just come back to life and then go straight to heaven. After the resurrection, he spent 40 days traveling in Jerusalem and talking to people—one time to a group of 500 people! Because he appeared to so many, the Gospel spread rapidly over the Roman Empire. 

Right before he went back to heaven, Jesus gave his last instructions to his followers. These commands, known as the Great Commission, are not just meant for priests or pastors or ministers or missionaries. They apply to everyone who follows Jesus.

These are Jesus’ instructions: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20 ESV).

This is the assignment for everybody in God’s family. We are to pass on the Good News to the world, near and far. Why? There are three reasons:

First, God wants a big family. If you’re in God’s family, then he wants you to bring others into his family. He wants you to tell people about the Gospel.

Second, only God can offer you salvation and hope. This is the greatest news in the world! Keeping it a secret would be criminal.

Third, the Great Commission is the hinge point of history. The timing of Jesus Christ’s return is dependent upon our obedience to his instructions. God is waiting for us to finish the task of telling the world about Jesus. 

The Bible says that God is “not willing for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9 NASB). God will not force anyone to love him, but he wants everybody to have the chance to say “yes” or “no” to his love.

Matthew 24:14 says, “The Good News about God’s kingdom will be preached in all the world, to every nation. Then the end will come” (NCV). Finishing the task of the Great Commission is inevitable. The only question is, which generation will have the privilege of doing it?

Let’s work together to finish the task. You can start by telling someone about Jesus today.

Talk It Over

Think of three people you know who need to hear the Gospel. Take some time to pray and make a plan to connect with at least one of them to talk about the Good News.
Why do you think God wants Jesus’ followers to participate in telling the world about the Gospel message?
Even if you can’t go to another country and share the Gospel, what is something you can do to support the work of those who are serving among people groups that have not yet heard the Good News?

Dios Sacude Nuestras Vidas Para Hacernos Libres

“De repente se produjo un terremoto tan fuerte que la cárcel se estremeció hasta sus cimientos. Al instante se abrieron todas las puertas y a los presos se les soltaron las cadenas”. Hechos 16:26 (NVI)

A veces necesitamos que Dios sacuda nuestras vidas.

Es particularmente cierto cuando nos encontramos encerrados en prisiones que nosotros mismos creamos, como un hábito del que no podemos escapar o una relación sin salida que nos impide lo mejor de Dios o un miedo que nos impide dar un paso importante en la vida.

Si ahí es donde te encuentras hoy, es posible que no estés detrás de las rejas físicas, pero bien podrías estarlo. Dios siempre quiere que vivas en libertad, entonces Dios envía un terremoto.

Dios hizo esto por el apóstol Pablo. En Hechos 16, Pablo estaba en una prisión física real. Y necesitaba un milagro para salir de eso, así que eso es lo que Dios le dio.

La Biblia dice: “De repente se produjo un terremoto tan fuerte que la cárcel se estremeció hasta sus cimientos. Al instante se abrieron todas las puertas y a los presos se les soltaron las cadenas” Hechos 16:26 (NVI). Cuando se derrumbaron los muros, Pablo salió de la prisión.

A veces Dios también debe sacudir tus cimientos para hacerte libre. Perderás un trabajo. Una relación preciada terminará. Llegará una crisis de salud. Ahí es cuando comienzas a reflexionar lo que crees sobre ti mismo, sobre los demás y sobre Dios.

Tal vez estés en medio de una de estas situaciones en este momento. Estás tentado a pensar que Dios te ha olvidado o que está molesto contigo.

Nada más lejos de la verdad. A veces Dios envía un terremoto a tu vida porque te ama, no porque esté enojado contigo.

Dios usa los terremotos para sacudirnos y luego para liberarnos.

Así que intenta esto: en lugar de dejar que un terremoto en tu vida cree una distancia entre tu y Dios, deja que comience un tiempo de reflexión.

Pregúntale a Dios: “¿De qué prisión me puede liberar este terremoto?”

Y luego mira cómo se derrumban los muros.

Si estás cansado de estar en prisión y quieres atravesar la puerta de la libertad, puedes hacer una simple oración de fe hoy. Solo di: “Señor, te traigo las cosas que me han aprisionado, cosas de las que me he avergonzado, remordimientos, resentimientos y preocupaciones. Ya no quiero vivir de esa manera. Quiero vivir una vida de libertad. Hoy quiero pasar por la puerta de la libertad: tu Hijo, Jesucristo. Por mucho que sepa, quiero seguirte. Te pido que vengas a mi vida y me llenes de tu amor y de tu Espíritu. Saca todo el miedo. Saca todo el dolor. Lléname con un nuevo sentido de esperanza. Ya no quiero vivir en prisión. Quiero atravesar las puertas de la oportunidad que has planeado para mí. Te pido hoy que me salves y que me aceptes en tu familia. Te pido esto en tu nombre. Amén”.

You Need God’s Help to Change

“As the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him.”

2 Corinthians 3:18 (TLB)

Doing a reset in your life is not something you can do with just human energy. Only God can produce that kind of a transformation in your life.

Think of it like this: Someone could make a law that says, “No more prejudice. No more racism. No more bigotry.” But no law is ever going to turn a bigot into a lover. Only God has the power to do that—because it requires an internal change, and only God can produce a truly lasting transform in our hearts.

In the same way, you can tell yourself that you’re ready to change, that you want to change, that you can change, and that you will change. But nothing will ever happen—nothing that lasts or has eternal significance—without the help of the Holy Spirit.

The Bible says in Zechariah 4:6, “‘You will not succeed by your own strength or by your own power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD All-Powerful” (NCV).

Just like you can’t transform yourself into a tiger or a leopard, you can’t transform yourself to be like Christ. You can’t change your life on your own power. Willpower is not enough. 

You didn’t collect your hurts, habits, and hang-ups overnight, and you’re not going to eliminate them overnight either. It’s going to take time. In fact, it’s going to take the rest of your life! It’s a slow process. And on your own, you won’t have enough patience and endurance to finish strong.

But there’s good news. The Bible promises, “As the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him” (2 Corinthians 3:18 TLB). 

Making changes involves a lifelong process that requires the power of Holy Spirit. As the Spirit works within you, God transforms you into who you were created to be and makes you more and more like him. 

When God wants to make a mushroom, he takes six hours. When he wants a mature oak tree, he takes 60 years. 

Do you want to be a mushroom or an oak tree? God wants you to grow into an emotionally mature, spiritually strong, happy, and healthy woman or man of God. 

It won’t happen quickly. But it will happen with the help of the Holy Spirit.

Talk It Over

When have you tried to make a big life change on your own power? What was the result?
Why do you think God wants some changes in our lives to take longer?
Sometimes the best steps we can take toward a reset are small ones. What small step will you take today to make a change in your life that will help you become the person God wants you to be? How will you need to rely on the Holy Spirit, even in that first small step?

What is your choice about Jesus?

The Bible says you can only get to heaven by trusting in God through his Son, Jesus Christ. You cannot earn your way into heaven: “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).


If you’re ready to commit your life to Jesus, start with this prayer:

“Dear God, you have promised that if I believe in your Son, Jesus Christ, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

"I confess I have sinned, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died to take away my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen."

Estás Llamado a Ser Libre

“Pues ustedes, mis hermanos, han sido llamados a vivir en libertad”. Gálatas 5:13 (NTV)

 Dios quiere que vivas en libertad. Deja que tu mente grabe muy bien esto.

De hecho, la Biblia dice: “Pues ustedes, mis hermanos, han sido llamados a vivir en libertad” Gálatas 5:13 (NTV). La libertad es tu vocación. Dios no quiere que vivas una vida restringida. Él quiere que tengas una vida abundante.

Jesús dice: “El propósito del ladrón es robar y matar y destruir; mi propósito es darles una vida plena y abundante” Juan 10:10 (NTV).

Si no estás viviendo una vida plena y satisfactoria, no es porque Dios no quiera que la tengas. Él quiere liberarte de:

El dolor de tu pasado. Este es la amargura o resentimiento que te impide ser todo lo que Dios quiere que seas.Las presiones de tu presente. Este es el estrés, agotamiento y cansancio que enfrentas al tratar de manejar las complejidades de la vida cotidiana.El pesimismo sobre el mañana. Estas son las preocupaciones sobre tu futuro o el futuro de tus seres queridos.

Dios quiere que seas libre de todo eso.

Para ello, conéctate al poder de la Semana Santa. Dios ha puesto a tu disposición el mismo poder que resucitó a Jesucristo de entre los muertos hace 2000 años atrás.

La Biblia dice: “Cuán incomparable es la grandeza de su poder a favor de los que creemos. Ese poder es la fuerza grandiosa y eficaz que Dios ejerció en Cristo cuando lo resucitó de entre los muertos y lo sentó a su derecha en las regiones celestiales” Efesios 1:19-20 (NVI).

El mismo poder que abrió la puerta de la tumba de Jesús abrirá las puertas de la prisión que te retienen.

Four Ways the Bible Helps You Reset Your Life

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.”

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT)

Jesus says in John 17:17, “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth” (NIV).

What does sanctify mean? It simply means to grow up and to be made more like Christ—to get a reset. After you choose to follow Jesus, you’re not the same person. You’re different. You’re being sanctified.

How are you sanctified? By God’s truth. The more you incorporate God’s Word into your life, the more you’re going to be transformed and made new. With the help of the Holy Spirit, you will be able to reset the areas of your life where you want to experience change.

Making a change will always require you to know God’s Word. It’s the manual for resetting your life! 

When you decide that you don’t like the way you’re living and the decisions you’ve made are just not working, then you need to go to God’s Word. It’s going to help you in very practical ways:

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT).

The Bible shows you the path to walk on. It shows you where you got off the path. It shows you how to get back on the path. And it shows you how to stay on the path.

In his Word, God has given you everything you need to make changes and then stay on the right path. This is why a daily quiet time of Bible study and prayer is important. If you’re going to change, then you’ve got to face the truth. And where is the truth? It’s in God’s Word. When you’re not in God’s Word, you’re not learning and facing the truth on a daily basis.

The Bible is a mirror that will reflect the good, the bad, and those areas that need change. Let God show you all the truth he offers in his Word so you can make changes that will lead to a life of purpose and joy.

Solo Hay una Forma de Ser Libre

“Yo soy la puerta; los que entren a través de mí serán salvos”. Juan 10:9 (NTV)

Encontrarás muchas puertas en tu vida. Encontrarás puertas a la felicidad, puertas a la tristeza, puertas al éxito y puertas al fracaso. Algunas puertas son trampas y otras son oportunidades.

Tu éxito en la vida depende en gran medida de las puertas que decidas atravesar. La Biblia tiene mucho que decir acerca de estas puertas. De hecho, encontrarás la palabra puerta en toda la Biblia, a menudo utilizada como metáfora de oportunidades.

A menudo pasamos por las puertas equivocadas, o quizás pasamos por alto las correctas. Pero hay una puerta que no te puedes perder: la puerta a la libertad.

La libertad es un asunto muy importante para Dios. Él no quiere que estés esclavizado por la culpa, el resentimiento, el dolor o cualquier otra cosa. Él quiere que vivas libre.

Las prisiones más grandes de la vida no son físicas. Son las prisiones de tu mente. Tal vez sea una relación en la que te sientes atrapado. Tal vez sea una deuda de la que no puedes escapar. Tal vez es un hábito del que no puedes deshacerte. Tal vez es una tradición que te frena. Tal vez es un recuerdo doloroso que no puedes olvidar.

No importa en qué tipo de prisión te encuentres, necesitas una salida. No puedes entrar por las puertas de la oportunidad que Dios ha planeado para ti hasta que salgas de las prisiones que te retienen y atravieses la puerta de la libertad.

En Juan 10:9, Jesús dice algo muy importante acerca de la puerta de la libertad: “Yo soy la puerta; los que entren a través de mí serán salvos” (NTV).

Jesús no solo quiere mostrarte la puerta a la libertad. Él es la puerta a esa libertad. ¡Él es la única manera de vivir libre!

Love Helps Us Face the Truth

“Love should always make us tell the truth. Then we will grow in every way and be more like Christ.”

Ephesians 4:15 (CEV)

When you believe a lie, you can’t make the changes you really need—which leads to self-defeat. 

Maybe you’re believing a lie about what will make you happy, about what God is really like, or about what real success looks like. You may be believing a lie about yourself, or about your past or present circumstances. 

The Bible says in 1 John 1:8, “If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth” (NLT). This is the first step to change: You have to admit that there is a problem and that the problem is in you. When you blame others or refuse to accept the truth, you’re just fooling yourself—and establishing dangerous habits. 

Personal change requires you to not only learn the truth about yourself but to also face it and take the steps necessary to move forward.

In fact, learning to face the truth about yourself is the most loving thing you can do for yourself, for others, and for God. Ephesians 4:15 says, “Love should always make us tell the truth. Then we will grow in every way and be more like Christ” (CEV). 

Do you want to grow? Do you want to change? Do you want a new life? Do you want a reset or a fresh start in some area of your life?

Look again to Ephesians 4:15: “Love should always make us tell the truth.” If you love yourself, if you love God, if you love other people, then you need to face the truth about yourself.

So then the question becomes, what is the best source for finding truth? Consult your owner’s manual—your Bible. The only way you can learn your purpose in life is to know your Creator and read the Bible.

To overcome your weaknesses—whether they come from circumstances, your genes, your parents, or your choices—you need to face the truth about yourself.

And that truth is found in God’s Word.

Talk It Over

Is there something about yourself that you know is true and needs attention and repentance, but you are hesitant to face it? What do you think you should do about it today?
Do you believe it’s easier to address your weaknesses or pretend like they don’t exist? Why?
If you feel like the Bible doesn’t have much to say to you, then ask God to show you through the Holy Spirit what he wants you to learn about him and yourself. Ask him to grow in you a love for his Word.

Dos Formas en que el Espíritu Santo te Guía

“Enséñame cómo vivir, oh Señor. Guíame por el camino correcto”. Salmo 27:11 (NTV)

Puede parecer obvio, pero una cosa que puede impedir que conozcas la voluntad de Dios es no preguntarle al respecto. Santiago 4:2 dice: “No tienen lo que desean porque no se lo piden a Dios” (NTV). Dios conoce los detalles de tu vida más que tú mismo. Así que involucra a tu “consejero de vida” haciéndole preguntas específicas. Él te guiará a través de tus circunstancias y sentimientos.

Piénsalo: no solo tienes la guía, la Biblia. También tienes al autor hablándote al oído. Cuando te convertiste en creyente, Dios puso el Espíritu Santo dentro de ti, y desde entonces te ha estado enseñando a escuchar y responder al consejo del Espíritu Santo. Conoce cada paso del viaje y comprende las bendiciones y los peligros que se avecinan. Él sabe dónde has estado y hacia dónde vas, y sabe cuál es el mejor camino a seguir.

La forma principal en que el Espíritu Santo te guía es recordándote lo que has leído en la Biblia. Es por eso que memorizamos las Escrituras. Almacenamos su Palabra en nuestra mente, y el Espíritu Santo nos ayuda a recordar.

La otra forma en que Dios te guía es por impresiones. Dios te dio un cerebro y quiere que lo uses. Dios no te controlará; te ha dado libre albedrío. Pero Él te dará una idea, y cuando respondas, comenzará a completar los detalles.

Cuando Dios te da una idea, eso se llama inspiración. Cuando el Diablo te da una idea, eso se llama tentación. Cuando necesites saber la diferencia, pregunta: “Enséñame cómo vivir, oh Señor. Guíame por el camino correcto” Salmo 27:11 (NTV).

Free Your Mind From Destructive Thoughts

“Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.”

Romans 8:5 (NLT)

Freeing your mind from destructive thoughts will never be easy because there are three forces that battle in your mind against good intentions—and none of them give up ground easily. You have to fight to free your mind!

What are the enemies—those forces that battle in your mind? 

The first is your old nature. Romans 7:23 says, “There is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me” (NLT). Your old nature, who you were before you became a Christian, can still influence you. It is persistent in making you think that wrong thoughts are not so bad.

The second thing working against you is Satan. Satan can’t force you to do anything, but he can use the power of suggestion. He’s continually planting negative thoughts in your mind. But you can fight against those. Paul says he chooses to forgive “so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes” (2 Corinthians 2:11 NLT).

The third enemy of your mind is the world’s value system, which is constantly promoted by advertising, movies, the Internet, music, and celebrity culture. The Bible says, “For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world” (1 John 2:16 NIV). Everything in the world is trying to get you to go the wrong way. Nothing encourages you to be disciplined; nothing encourages you to be unselfish.

The Bible tells us how to fight this mental battle: “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:3-5 NIV).

“Take captive” means to bring your thoughts under control. Don’t just let your thoughts go anywhere they want to go. Instead, bring them into submission to the truth of God’s Word.

If it sounds like you have power over your thoughts, it’s because you do! When your thoughts start to go in the wrong direction, change direction. Choose to think about the things that you know are good and right and true. The Holy Spirit will help you!

La Guía de Dios no te Dejará Confundido

Dios puede usar impresiones para hablarte. Puede usar las circunstancias. Incluso puede usar el dolor. Puede usar lo que quiera usar. Oswald Chambers dijo: “Dios es el Gran Ingeniero, creando circunstancias para producir momentos en nuestras vidas de importancia divina, llevándonos a citas divinas”.

La Biblia dice que Dios obra activamente a través de nuestras circunstancias. Y así no podemos juzgar nuestra situación aparte de la sabiduría de Dios. En otras palabras, debemos dejar que Dios interprete nuestras circunstancias. Solo Él es capaz de comprender todos los hechos, y solo Él ve el significado de cada detalle. Por eso es tan importante que lo probemos todo a través de Su Palabra.

Si te sientes abrumado o confundido acerca de una decisión, es posible que estés atrapado en ti mismo y no en la voz de Dios. La Biblia dice: “Dios no es Dios de desorden sino de paz” 1 Corintios 14:33 (NTV). Él no es el autor de la confusión. Entonces, si te sientes confundido, ¿adivina qué? No es la voz de Dios hablando en tu vida.

Muchas veces nos encontramos con enormes barreras financieras, espirituales o físicas. Ahí es cuando necesitamos confesar: “Dios, hay montañas a ambos lados y una barrera inaccesible frente a mí”. Y luego esperamos que Dios responda: “Te tengo exactamente donde quiero que estés”. Y podrás ver que Dios abrirá un camino donde parece no haber camino.

El Salmo 77:19 dice: “Te abriste camino a través del mar y tu sendero atravesó las poderosas aguas, ¡una senda que nadie sabía que estaba allí!” (NTV).

Cuando no sepas qué hacer, Dios te guiará. Él no te diseñó para ir por la vida con tu propio ingenio y poder. No tienes que esperar que puedas resolver las cosas. Dios quiere guiarte por el camino correcto, y lo hará cuando te rindas a Él y a Su guía.
