How to Trust God in a Season of Waiting

“I trust the Lord God to save me, and I will wait for him to answer my prayer.”

Micah 7:7 (CEV)

The Bible is clear that you’ll go through different seasons in life. One season that God talks about over and over is the season of waiting.

But you can trust that while you’re waiting, God is working. A season of waiting doesn’t mean that God has stopped working. In fact, he’s taking you through that season because he’s using the time to work in your circumstances for your good.

The truth is, you’re going to spend much of your life waiting. And so, if you don’t figure out how to trust God while you’re waiting, you’ll spend a lot of your life not trusting God.

God is never in a hurry; he’s eternal! And as he’s working, he wants you to learn how to trust in him as you’re waiting. 

You might be asking, “When, Lord? When is it going to happen?” And God’s saying something like, “You can trust me with this.”

It’s human nature to say, “Don’t wait! Get things as quickly as you can.” It’s how many cultures are wired. But it goes against God’s blessing in your life—because God’s blessing comes through times of waiting. Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, “[God] has set the right time for everything” (GNT).

Are you in a time of waiting? Maybe it’s for school to end. Maybe it’s for the “right person” to come into your life. Maybe it’s for a marriage to happen, a baby to come, or a new job opportunity to arrive. And you’re frustrated with how slowly things are happening. We’ve all been there.

There’s a promise in the Bible that not only tells you God is working but also how God is working. You need to claim it while you’re in your time of waiting: “I am the Lord, and when it is time, I will make these things happen quickly” (Isaiah 60:22 NCV).

That’s how God worked when he sent Jesus into this world. The world waited thousands of years for him to come the first time. And then he came at just the right moment.

We’ve been waiting 2,000 years now for Jesus to come again. When will that happen? At just the right time—God’s time. That’s when he’s going to return.

You can apply this same truth to your time of waiting. Remember that a delay is not a denial. When you think God is saying, “No,” he may just be saying, “Not yet. Will you keep trusting me through this?”

Micah 7:7 says, “I trust the Lord God to save me, and I will wait for him to answer my prayer” (CEV).

That is the kind of faith that God blesses.

Tu Pecado Nunca es Privado

“Porque ninguno de nosotros vive para sí mismo, ni tampoco muere para sí”. Romanos 14:7 (NVI)

El pecado puede ser un secreto. Pero nunca es privado. Puede que se conozca ahora, aquí en la tierra, o en el día del juicio, pero será conocido.

Números 32:23 es uno de los versículos más atemorizantes en la Biblia: “Y pueden estar seguros de que no escaparán de su pecado” (NVI).

Otra razón por la que el pecado nunca es privado es porque todo lo que haces, bueno o malo, afecta a otras personas —incluso si ellos no saben lo que está sucediendo.

Si alguien cercano a ti se quedó despierto haciendo cosas realmente inmorales y entonces te ve en la mañana, te darías cuenta de que algo está mal. Puede que no sepas qué sucedió, pero el resultado de su pecado será obvio a través de su comportamiento. Muy pocas personas pueden actuar como si nada pasara.

No necesitas cometer un gran pecado. Puede ser el pecado de omisión. Si tienes a menudo un tiempo a solas con Dios y luego pasan varios días si pasar tiempo en la presencia de Dios, probablemente habrá una diferencia en como reaccionas con las personas y a las circunstancias. Eso es porque cuando no estás conectado, no tienes el poder espiritual para luchar contra el pecado.

La Biblia dice en Romanos 14:7 “Porque ninguno de nosotros vive para sí mismo, ni tampoco muere para sí” (NVI).

Muchas personas dirán, “Lo que hago con mi vida no es asunto de nadie. Mientras no lastime a nadie, ¿por qué le debe importar a los demás?” Pero estás lastimando a otras personas. Dios nos hizo para estar en conexión con otros, y lo que hacemos y decimos siempre tiene un efecto en los demás.

El pecado te afecta en formas que no te das cuenta, y entonces tus acciones afectan a otros. Cuando pecas, le quitas el poder a Dios y te alejas de tu potencial. Eso limita el bien que puedes hacer y el impacto que puedes tener.

¿No es triste pensar en lo que tú y otros se pierden cuando no eres lo mejor que Dios ha creado? Sólo hay una manera de superar el pecado que te detiene y lastima a los demás: Confesarlo.

Weakness Can Be a Good Thing

“You bless all who depend on you for their strength.”

Psalm 84:5 (CEV)

Are you tired? Maybe you’re running on steam, and at the end of each day, you’ve run out of energy. The reason why is really simple: You’re a human being.

Your strength is limited. But God’s strength is unlimited. Your strength is finite. But God’s strength is infinite. Your strength is exhaustible—that’s why you get exhausted! But God’s strength is inexhaustible. God never runs out of energy. God never gets tired.

Psalm 84:5 says, “You bless all who depend on you for their strength” (CEV). Do you want God’s blessing on your life? Then you need to depend on God for your strength.

Hudson Taylor was an influential missionary to China in the 19th century. He was a spiritual giant and a brilliant man. In his old age, he lost his health and became quite weak. He wrote a letter to a friend that said, “I am so weak I can no longer work. I am so weak I can no longer study. I am so weak I can no longer read my Bible. I cannot even pray. I can only lie still in the arms of God like a little child in trust.”

At some point in your life, you may be so weak that you can’t even pray, read the Bible, go to a Bible study, work, or really do anything. What do you do in those moments? You rest in the strength of the Lord—in his arms like a little child—and you trust.

Weakness can actually be a good thing in your life if it causes you to depend on God. In 2 Corinthians 12:8-10, Paul says, “Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (NLT).

That’s the paradox of depending on God: The weaker you are, the more you depend on him. And the more you depend on him, the stronger you get.

Es Tiempo de Comenzar a Dudar de tus Dudas

“El pecado del mundo consiste en que el mundo se niega a creer en mí”. Juan 16:9 (NTV)

La causa de cada pecado reside al menos en un momento de duda respecto a Dios.

En Juan 16:9 Jesús dice: “El pecado del mundo consiste en que el mundo se niega a creer en mí” (NTV). Cuando no crees que Jesús es quien dice ser o que hará lo que dice que hará, esa es la raíz de todo pecado.

Aquí hay algunas emociones que puedes buscar y que pueden ayudarte a saber cuándo estás dudando de Dios.

Cuando te vuelves temeroso o ansioso, esto revela tu incredulidad en las promesas de Dios. La Biblia ofrece más de 7.000 promesas. Si las reclamas, verás cómo disminuyen tus niveles de temor y ansiedad. Es la mejor póliza de seguro del mundo.

Cuando te impacientas, revela tu duda en el tiempo perfecto de Dios. Dios tiene un plan para tu vida, pero nunca va a tener prisa. Eso es fácil de olvidar cuando quieres que las cosas sucedan en tu propio tiempo, así que tomas el asunto en tus propias manos en lugar de esperar en Dios.

Cuando te vuelves resentido o amargado, eso revela tu duda en la sabiduría de Dios. Dios es sabio, bueno y amoroso. Pero cuando las cosas no salen como tú planeas o quieres, piensas que Él se ha equivocado de alguna manera. Y no crees que pueda sacar algo bueno de lo malo.

Cuando te refugias en sentimientos de culpa, eso revela tu incredulidad en el perdón de Dios. ¿Cuánto tiempo debe sentirse culpable un seguidor de Jesús? Aproximadamente un segundo. Eso es lo que se tarda en confesar un pecado. Si te sientes culpable, significa que no puedes perdonarte a ti mismo porque no crees que Dios te ha perdonado.

Cuando te sientes insuficiente, revela tu duda en el poder de Dios. Dios ha dicho que su poder se manifiesta mejor en tu debilidad. Pero cuando no crees eso, muestra que piensas que el poder debe venir sólo de ti mismo. Si piensas eso, siempre vas a estar decepcionado.

¿Quieres cambiar esos sentimientos de temor, impaciencia, resentimiento, culpa e insuficiencia? Entonces necesitas empezar a dudar de tus dudas.

Si crees en la Palabra de Dios, puedes confiar en lo que dice acerca de Dios y de la forma en que Él siente por ti y cuida de ti. Puedes confiar en que Dios cumple sus promesas, tiene un tiempo perfecto, es sabio, te perdona y obra poderosamente a través de ti.

Trust God’s Wisdom, Not Your Feelings

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.”

Proverbs 3:5-7 (NLT)

Have you ever had the feeling that something was so very, very right, but then when you did it, it ended up being so very, very wrong?

Feelings lie. They lie to you all the time! There’s an old country song that says, “How can it be wrong when it feels so right?” Are you kidding me? There are a lot of things that are wrong that feel so right in the moment.

After six months in a relationship, you wonder, “What was I thinking?” Just a few weeks into a job, you think, “How in the world did I get caught up in this?” A quick decision that seemed harmless at the time leaves you broken and scarred years later.

If you want to experience fewer dead ends and failures in your life, you need to hear what Proverbs 3:5-7 says: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil” (NLT).

If you really want God’s blessing on your life, you have to depend on God’s wisdom and not on what your feelings say or what your gut says. In other words, trust in the Lord and not on your own understanding.

So how do you get God’s wisdom?

You pray. You talk to God, and you let him talk to you as you read the Bible. That’s how you get his wisdom.

The Bible says in James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” (NIV).

God doesn’t want you to make foolish mistakes. He wants you to succeed. He wants you to make wise decisions with your time, money, and relationships.

The truth is, you’re not waiting on God for his help; he’s waiting on you! It’s like he’s saying, “Hey! I’m here. I’ll give you wisdom, and I’ll give it generously. I want to make you wise. You’ve just got to ask.”

If you want to be blessed, you’ve got to get God’s wisdom. And if you want God’s wisdom, you need to ask for it—and then be open to receive it.

Resultado de una Vida Centrada en el “YO”

“Pues, donde hay envidias y ambiciones egoístas, también habrá desorden y toda clase de maldad”. Santiago 3:16 (NTV)

Cuando el “YO” está en el centro de todo en mi vida, eso es pecado.

Todos tenemos un problema con el “YO”: Yo quiero intentarlo a mi manera; Yo haré mis cosas; Yo tengo que cuidar primero de mí; Yo no tengo tiempo para otros; Yo soy la cosa más importante.

Al crecer, mi papá me enseñó el peligro de una vida enfocada en el “YO” al mostrarme que el centro del pecado era el “YO”. Así como la raíz del pecado es el egoísmo, el centro del orgullo también es el “YO”. ¿Dónde más se aplica esto? Todo “crimen” es egocéntrico. Muchos de los problemas sociales en el mundo actualmente son causados por tres grupos con el “YO” en el centro: Racismo, Sexismo y el patriotismo exagerado. Estos resultan de la filosofía de “Yo soy mejor que tu”.

¿Qué otros pecados centrados en el “YO” ocurren cuando comienzas a vivir una vida egoísta? Te vuelves “envidioso”, “engañoso”, “desafiante” y “despiadado” —porque quieres gracia para ti, pero no para otros.

¿Cuáles son los resultados de vivir una vida egoísta? Culpa, fatiga, pesimismo, hostilidad, y vacío, todos centrados en el “YO”.

¿Cuál es el único antídoto para la vida egoísta? Tienes que cambiar tu enfoque.

Fuiste hecho por Dios y para Dios. Y solamente encontrarás paz y propósito cuando enfoques tu vida en Él. ¡Tú guardarás en perfecta paz a todos los que confían en ti, a todos los que concentran en ti sus pensamientos!” Isaías 26:3 (NTV).

Jesus Turns Your ‘Hopeless End’ Into ‘Endless Hope’

“This happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us . . . and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us.”

2 Corinthians 1:9-10 (NIV)

God works in your life according to your expectation. The apostle Paul knew this. He said in 2 Corinthians 1:9-10, “This happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us . . . and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us” (NIV).

At some point in life, you’ll reach a dead end—when you see no hope from a human perspective. But your dead end has a purpose: to teach you to trust in God. Sometimes life seems so bad and out of control. Why does God let that happen? So you can learn to trust in him instead of trusting in your own ingenuity and cleverness. 

Here’s what’s true: God has delivered you in the past, he’s likely delivering you from circumstances now, and he will deliver you in the future. God uses three different kinds of deliverance:

1. God uses circumstantial deliverance. Sometimes God miraculously alters the circumstance, and the Red Sea splits. That will happen many times in your life, but it’s not going to happen all the time.

2. God uses personal deliverance. Instead of changing the circumstance, God changes you from the inside. You get a new dream, a new vision, a new attitude, and a new perspective. 

3. God’s ultimate deliverance is heaven. God has not promised to remove all your pain in this world or solve every one of your problems. On Earth, there is pain, sorrow, and suffering. The ultimate deliverance will be one day in heaven, where there will be no pain, no sorrow, no suffering, and no heartache. 

There is only one way to get to Heaven. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6 NIV). When you’re at a dead end, Jesus can take that hopeless end and turn it into an endless hope. 

Are you at a dead end? I invite you to take that dead-end situation and your own life and give them to Jesus Christ. Jesus always looks out for your best interests.

How to find deliverance through Jesus

God’s ultimate deliverance from dead ends is through an eternity in heaven—and that only comes when you’ve put your faith in Jesus.

The Bible says, “For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 CSB).

Are you ready to trust God to fulfill his promise of eternal life? If so, start by praying this simple prayer:

“Dear God, I don’t want my sin to separate me from you any longer. You have promised that if I believe in Jesus, you’ll forgive me for everything I’ve ever done wrong, you’ll show me the purpose of my life, and you’ll accept me into your family and bring me to heaven one day to live with you for eternity.

“Jesus, I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I ask you to come into my life as my Lord. Today, I commit my life to you.

“I want to live the way you created me to live—at peace and rested—and to use the remainder of my life to serve you. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

El Pecado Crece de las Semillas del Egoísmo

“Habrá tanta maldad, que la mayoría dejará de tener amor hacia los demás”. Mateo 24:12 (DHH)

Alguien le preguntó a Jesús, “¿Cuál es el mandamiento más importante en la Escritura?”. Él respondió: “Hay dos: Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, alma, mente y fuerzas y amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo”.

Si esos son los dos mandamientos más importantes de Dios, entonces sus opuestos —no amar a Dios y no amar a tus prójimos— es pecado. El pecado siempre es el desamor.

Mateo 24:12 dice, “Habrá tanta maldad, que la mayoría dejará de tener amor hacia los demás” (DHH). ¿Has notado eso hoy? Las personas en general se han vuelto más críticos, menos civilizados y más rudos que nunca. ¿Por qué? Porque al incrementarse el pecado, el amor disminuye.

El pecado es inútil, dañino, injusto, imprudente, engañoso y siempre egoísta.

A menudo nos decimos a nosotros mismos que estamos haciendo algo en beneficio de los demás cuando en realidad lo estamos haciendo en beneficio propio. La Biblia dice, “Pues, donde hay envidias y ambiciones egoístas, también habrá desorden y toda clase de maldad” Santiago 3:16 (NTV). En el centro de todo pecado está el egocentrismo.

¿Por qué estás aquí en la tierra? Dios no te hizo para que vivieras para ti mismo. Fuiste hecho para algo mucho más grande que eso.

Fuiste hecho por Dios y para Dios, y hasta que no entiendas y creas eso, la vida nunca va a tener sentido. Dios no te creó para que centraras tu vida en ti mismo y dejaras de lado a los demás. Fuiste creado para conocer a Dios, disfrutar de Él, tener una amistad con Él, servirle y centrar tu vida en Él.

Cualquier cosa en torno a la cual construyas tu vida es tu dios, ya sea tu barco o tu negocio o un deporte u otra persona.

Dios quiere que centres tu vida en Él, pero el pecado siempre volverá a poner el foco en ti. Elige el amor. Donde abunda el amor, el egoísmo no crecerá.

Face the Facts With Faith

“We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)

When you’re chasing a dream God has given you, you’ll inevitably hit a place where it seems things are out of your control and there’s no way out. Short of a miracle from God, it’s a hopeless situation. You’re in the dead-end phase of God growing your faith.

When you hit a dead end, you need to face the facts with faith.

The worst thing you can do at a dead end is pretend there isn’t a problem. Having faith doesn’t mean you deny reality. Faith isn’t saying, “I’m not in pain” when, in fact, you are. It’s not saying, “I don’t hurt” when you really do. It’s not saying, “I’m happy” when you’re grieving. That’s not faith. That’s phoniness! 

Faith is facing the facts without being disheartened by them, because you know God is greater than the problem. 

There is a brand of Christianity that basically says to deny all of your problems. Just have a positive confession. Name it and claim it. But that kind of thinking doesn’t come from Jesus. It’s more reflective of Pollyanna, a fictional character whose unrealistic view of life only sees the positive while completely ignoring anything negative. Pollyanna is not exactly a good theologian. 

When you have faith, you don’t have to deny reality. Faith is facing reality without being discouraged by it. When you have faith, you know that God can change a situation. 

You can’t build a family on a Pollyanna fantasy—but you can build your family on faith. You can’t build a business on fantasy—but you can build a business on faith. You can’t build a life on fantasy—but you can build your life on faith. 

How do you do that? You look beyond your circumstances: “We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen [the problem] is temporary, but what is unseen [God’s power] is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18 NIV).

If you look at the world, you’re going to be distressed; there are problems everywhere! If you look within, you’re going to be depressed, because there are a lot of things that need changing in your life. But if you look at Jesus Christ, you’ll be at rest. What you focus on shapes what your reality looks like. 

When you start looking at your problem, you’re sunk. But if you look at Jesus—if you look toward your Deliverer rather than the difficulty—then you’ll make it.

El Pecado es lo Opuesto a Dios

“Lo que él hace es justo y verdadero”. Salmo 111:7 (DHH)

Cuando preguntas a las personas que es pecado, obtendrás un amplio rango de respuestas, desde un asesinato hasta olvidar llamar la mamá en el día de las madres.

La mayoría del tiempo, las personas piensan en el pecado como un mal comportamiento. El mal comportamiento a menudo revela el pecado. Pero la Biblia nos dice que Dios pone más atención en nuestros pensamientos que en nuestro comportamiento. Porque es el pensamiento pecaminoso el que nos lleva a un comportamiento pecaminoso.

Así que, ¿Qué es pecado? Pecado es lo opuesto a Dios. La Biblia dice, “Lo que él hace es justo y verdadero”, “El Señor es bueno para con todos, y con ternura cuida sus obras”, y “todo lo que Dios ha creado es bueno” Salmo 111:7; Salmo 145:9; 1 Timoteo 4:4 (DHH).

Todo lo que Dios hace es bueno, y todo lo que creó es bueno. Pero cuando tomamos lo que Dios creó y lo usamos de manera equivocada, eso es pecado.

Por ejemplo, cuando usas medicamentos en la forma correcta, te pueden traer alivio y sanidad física. Pero cuando los usas mal y abusas de ellos, algo que es bueno se vuelve malo. El dinero no es bueno ni malo. Puede ser usado para un gran bien, pero también puede ser usado para cosas muy malas.

Dios espera que dejes tus pecados y comiences a caminar fielmente hacia Él. Parte de la fe es creer que Dios tiene en mente lo mejor para ti. No tienes que preguntarte cómo es Dios. La Biblia dice claramente que Dios es perfecto y no comete pecado.

Nunca serás perfecto en la tierra, pero puedes ser más como Jesús. Para lograrlo comienza dejando el pecado y tomando la decisión cada día de perseverar lo que es bueno y santo.
