Usa Este Principio Simple Para Manejar Bien Tu Dinero

“Los sabios tienen riquezas y lujos, pero los necios gastan todo lo que consiguen”. Proverbios 21:20 (NTV)

Como pastor durante casi 40 años, puedo decirte que la razón principal por la cual las parejas se divorcian no es el adulterio. Tampoco es el abuso.

¡Son las deudas! En un momento dado, el 54 por ciento de los divorcios en los EE.UU. estaban relacionados con presiones financieras.

Esto no debería sorprendernos. La Biblia deja en claro que es una tontería no administrar bien el dinero. Y la tontería nunca termina bien. Proverbios 21:20 dice: “Los sabios tienen riquezas y lujos, pero los necios gastan todo lo que consiguen” (NTV).

Muy a menudo nuestra cultura nos convence para comprar ahora y pagar más tarde. El estadounidense promedio pone US$1.300 en su tarjeta de crédito por cada US$1.000 que gana. Eso lleva directamente a la deuda, ¡y Dios llama a eso algo necio!

Amigo, nadie se endeuda solo… ni tampoco sale de las deudas así. Decidir construir tu futuro financiero con el compromiso de ser responsable comienza con intencionalidad. Después de haber hecho ese compromiso importante, necesitas un plan para llegar allí.

Mis padres me enseñaron el principio 10-10-80 cuando era un niño. Es una gran manera de volverse intencional sobre tus decisiones financieras.

Devuelve el 10 por ciento a Dios. Dios bendice todo aquello en que le pones a Él primero.Mantén el 10 por ciento para ti. Comprométete a ahorrar dinero cada vez que ganas algo.Vive con el 80 por ciento. Solo los necios gastan todo lo que consiguen.

Te guste o no, Dios usa el dinero para ponerte a prueba. Él está probando tu responsabilidad. Cuando Él mire tus decisiones financieras en el Cielo, Dios va a decir: “¿Fuiste responsable con lo que te di en la Tierra?”.

¿Cómo responderás a esa pregunta?

Da a Dios el 10 por ciento de lo que ganas, ahorra el 10 por ciento y vive con el resto.

Seven Characteristics of Mercy

“The wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy.”

James 3:17 (NLT)

Would you like to see your relationships transformed? Then become an agent of mercy. 

Here are seven characteristics of mercy that God wants you to learn and apply in your life: 

1. Mercy means being patient with people’s quirks.
How do you become more patient with your kids, spouse, coworkers, or friends? You ask God for his wisdom. The Bible says in James 3:17, “The wisdom from above is . . . peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy” (NLT). 

2. Mercy means helping anyone around you who is hurting.
You cannot love your neighbor as yourself without being merciful. Proverbs 3:27 says, “Whenever you possibly can, do good to those who need it” (GNT)—and “do it cheerfully” (Romans 12:8 NIV).

3. Mercy means giving people a second chance.
When somebody hurts us, we normally want to get even or write that person off. But the Bible says, “Stop being bitter and angry and mad at others . . . Instead, be kind and merciful, and forgive others, just as God forgave you because of Christ” (Ephesians 4:31-32 CEV).

4. Mercy means doing good to those who hurt you.
Mercy is giving people what they need, not what they deserve, because that’s what God does with us: “Love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back . . . Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful” (Luke 6:35-36 NIV).

5. Mercy means being kind to those who offend you.
You’ve got to be more interested in winning people to Christ than in winning the argument. Jude 1:22-23 says, “Show mercy to those who have doubts . . . even though you are afraid that you might be stained by their sinful lives” (GW).

6. Mercy means building bridges of love to the unpopular.
When the Pharisees questioned why Jesus ate with tax collectors and other unpopular people, Jesus said, “‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners” (Matthew 9:13 NLT).

7. Mercy means valuing relationships over rules.
Romans 13:10 says, “Love fulfills the requirements of God’s law” (NLT). If you want to show mercy, put people before policies. Put their needs before procedures. Put relationships before regulations. Choose love over law.

Showing mercy doesn’t always come naturally. And so, in tomorrow’s devotional, we’ll discuss specific ways you can demonstrate mercy in your life.

Talk It Over

Why do we so often try to win the argument instead of trying to win people to Christ?
If mercy means valuing relationships over rules, what do you need to change about the way you interact with your children? What about with your coworkers or those with different political beliefs?
This week, how will you show mercy to people around you who are hurting?

Are you ready to accept God's mercy in your life?

Jesus didn’t come to judge you. He came to show you mercy, because “mercy triumphs over judgment” (James 2:13 NIV). There will be a judgment day. But Jesus came to offer you mercy now so that you can experience the power and joy that come from walking with him.

But there’s one condition: You need to ask for his forgiveness and mercy. Acts 2:21 says, “Anyone who asks for mercy from the Lord shall have it and shall be saved” (TLB).

If you’re ready to do that, then start by praying this prayer:

“Dear God, I want to have a deep and abiding faith in you. I confess that I have sinned and that I need your forgiveness and mercy. Thank you for loving me so much that you sent Jesus to die for my sins so that I can be forgiven.

“Jesus, you promised that anyone who believes in you can have a relationship with you and spend forever with you in heaven. I believe in you and accept you as my Lord and Savior. Please accept me into your family and help me to follow you faithfully and spend the rest of my life serving you. In Jesus’s name I pray. Amen.”

Eres Responsable por lo que Permites en tu Mente

“El sabio tiene hambre de conocimiento, mientras que el necio se alimenta de basura”. Proverbios 15:14 (NTV)

Nuestras mentes controlan todo sobre nosotros. Nuestros pensamientos influyen en nuestros sentimientos. Nuestros sentimientos impactan nuestras acciones.

Lo que piensas importa, porque todo comienza en la mente. Para ser una persona responsable, debes controlar tus pensamientos.

Pero déjame liberarte de un poco de falsa culpabilidad: no eres responsable de todos los pensamientos vagos que pasan por tu mente. Los pensamientos vagos entran en nuestras mentes por una variedad de razones: conversaciones que escuchas por accidente, cosas que ves, cosas que el diablo pone en tu mente, etc.

Eres responsable de cómo lidias con esos pensamientos. Martín Lutero lo dijo así: “No puedes evitar que las aves pasen volando sobre tu cabeza, pero puedes evitar que formen un nido en tu cabello”.

Dios te hará responsable de lo que permitas que ingrese a tu mente.

Estoy sorprendido por lo que algunas personas ven, sin mencionar lo que dejan que sus hijos miren. Muchos seguidores de Jesús pasan su tiempo viendo basura en TV y escuchando basura en la radio. Pagan buen dinero para ver el comportamiento desviado como entretenimiento. La gente que mira esos programas me dice: “Cuando voy a ver ese tipo de cosas, simplemente no me descontrola. No me molesta. No me afecta”.

¡Pero eso no es verdad!

Los científicos han hecho un estudio tras otro concluyendo que nunca olvidas las escenas que ves. Incluso si no recuerdas conscientemente la escena, esa idea volverá a tu mente, a todo color, cuando otra cosa estimule el pensamiento.

En otras palabras, “basura entra, basura sale”. Lo que pones en tu mente inevitablemente dará frutos en tu comportamiento y creencias. De hecho, cuando el entretenimiento basura ya no te molesta, es una luz de advertencia de que ya has pasado el límite.

Uno de los mejores trucos de Satanás para atraerte a un estilo de vida pecaminoso es la comedia. Es por eso que en la televisión o en las películas, el comportamiento desviado siempre comienza con una situación de comedia. Si Satanás puede hacerte reír de algo que es pecaminoso, ya has perdido la batalla.

El pecado no es divertido. El pecado puso a Jesús en la cruz.

¿Con qué estás llenando tu cabeza?

Four Reasons to Be Merciful

“God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”

Matthew 5:7 (NLT)

Jesus says in Matthew 5:7, “God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy” (NLT).

In other words, you’re going to get what you give. If you want God’s blessing on your life, then you’ve got to learn to be a minister of mercy. 

But why does God expect you to show mercy to others? Why should you be merciful?

Because God has shown you mercy. Ephesians 2:4-5 says, “God’s mercy is so abundant, and his love for us is so great, that while we were spiritually dead in our disobedience he brought us to life with Christ. It is by God’s grace that you have been saved” (GNT).

God wants you to pass on the mercy that you’ve received from him.

Because God commands you to be merciful. Do you want a summary of what life’s all about? Here it is: “The Lord has told you what is good. This is what the Lord requires from you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to live humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8 GW).

Because you’re going to need more mercy in the future. Between now and when you get to heaven, you’re going to make a lot of mistakes—and you’ll need God’s mercy when you do! But you cannot receive what you are unwilling to give. James 2:13 says, “You must show mercy to others, or God will not show mercy to you when he judges you. But the person who shows mercy can stand without fear at the judgment” (NCV).

Because showing mercy leads to happiness. Look again at Matthew 5:7. It says that God blesses those who are merciful. The word “blessed” also means “happy.” So the more you learn and demonstrate mercy, the more blessed and happier you’re going to be.

If you want to start giving and receiving more mercy, pray this prayer today: 

“Heavenly Father, when I look at the sin and shortcomings in my own life, I’m so grateful for the mercy you have given me. I want to become a merciful person and to give others the same mercy you’ve given me. Give me courage to offer mercy, even in hurtful and painful situations. And let my acts of mercy point others to you. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

No Tienes que Vivir con Culpa

“Quien encubre su pecado jamás prospera; quien lo confiesa y lo deja halla perdón”. Proverbios 28:13 (NVI)

Dios siempre está listo para darte otra oportunidad. Eso es una pieza fundamental de la Cristiandad. Todos hemos sido irresponsables. Todos nos hemos equivocado alguna vez. La Biblia nos dice, “No hay nadie en la tierra tan perfecto que haga siempre el bien y nunca peque” Eclesiastés 7:20 (DHH).

Dios no quiere que vivas con una pesada culpa por toda la irresponsabilidad en tu vida. La culpa destruye tu confianza, daña tus relaciones, te mantiene atorado en el pasado, y hasta daña tu salud. Leí un reporte hace algunos años que decía que el 70% de las personas en los hospitales podrían salir de él si supieran como resolver su culpa.

Dios quiere algo mucho mejor para tu vida que eso. Tú no quieres vivir con culpa. Y aquí hay una importante verdad a la que siempre puedes aferrarte: No tienes que hacerlo.

Dios quiere que vivamos con un sentido de promesa y esperanza. Dios puede sacar lo bueno de las decisiones tontas que hacemos en nuestras vidas, si entregamos esos fracasos a Él.

¿Cómo haces eso?

Admite ante Dios que has cometido un error. Eso no le sorprende. Y no cambiará su percepción de ti. Espero que hagas este paso el día de hoy. Cuando lo hagas esto es lo que puedes esperar de parte de Dios:

Dios te perdona instantáneamente. En el mismo momento que admites tu pecado ante Dios, Él te perdona.Dios te perdona gratuitamente. No tienes que ganártelo, y nunca lo merecerás.Dios te perdona por completo. El limpia tu pecado completamente.

Si has quedado atrapado en la culpa y vergüenza, perpetuarás cualquier problema que tengas. Te dirás a ti mismo que lo echaste a perder así que eres malo. Ya que eres malo, crees que lo echarás a perder nuevamente. Es un círculo detestable del cual parece que no podemos escapar —por lo menos no por ti mismo.

Necesitas un poder más allá del tuyo. Necesitas un Salvador. Necesitas a Jesús.

How to Stay Hungry for God

“You must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment.”

1 Peter 2:2 (NLT)

Are you hungry for God?

It’s possible to maintain a spiritual hunger for God for the rest of your life. Here are five ways to sustain a spiritual appetite.

1. Remind yourself how much God loves you.
The more you understand how much God loves you, the more you’re going to love him. The Bible says in Ephesians 3:18-19, “May you have the power to understand . . . how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God” (NLT).

2. Stop filling up on junk food.
You are a spiritual being with a God-shaped hole in your heart that only God can fill. When you try to fill it with salary, status, success, passion, possessions, power, prestige, or anything other than God, it’s not going to be fulfilling.

Proverbs 15:14 says, “A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on trash” (NLT).

3. Make knowing God your number one goal.
Happiness is a byproduct of knowing God. Jesus says in Matthew 6:33, “Seek first God’s kingdom and what God wants. Then all your other needs will be met as well” (NCV).

4. Get into God’s Word every day.
The Bible is food for your soul. Eating just one meal a week won’t keep your body healthy. In the same way, you need to feed on God’s Word every day.

“You must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment” (1 Peter 2:2 NLT).

5. Surround yourself with other believers.
If you hang out with people who only care about politics, you’ll care about politics. If you hang out with people who only care about sports, you’ll care about sports. If you hang out with people whose focus is knowing God, that will become your focus too.

That’s why you need to join a small group of Christians for support—because whatever you talk about when you’re with others is what you’re going to be hungry for. Proverbs 2:20 says, “Follow the steps of the good, and stay on the paths of the righteous” (NLT).

¿Cuál es tu Mayor Habilidad?

“Tengan cuidado de cómo se comportan. Vivan como gente que piensa lo que hace”. Efesios 5:15 (TLA)

Tú y yo tenemos una variedad de grandes habilidades. Para algunos de nosotros es la habilidad para las matemáticas, arreglar computadoras, o coser. Todos tenemos habilidades —aun cuando hay momentos que necesitamos de otros para que nos las hagan notar.

¿Pero sabes cuál es tu más grande habilidad?

Responsabilidad.

Responsabilidad es tu habilidad para responder a la vida. Es lo que te hace humano —y es un don de Dios. Mucho de tu vida no ha estado bajo tu control. No escogiste donde nacer. No escogiste a tus padres. No escogiste como te criarían tus padres. No escogiste tus dones y talentos únicos que aportarías al mundo.

Responsabilidad es como manejas todo lo demás. Dios te ha dado la libertad para responder a las cosas que te vienen en el camino. La forma en que respondes a lo que la vida te pone por delante impacta tu vida más que cualquier otro factor.

De hecho, en muchas formas, la vida es una prueba de cómo manejamos la responsabilidad. Pasamos sólo una fracción de nuestras vidas en este lado de la eternidad. A Dios no le preocupan nuestros logros mientras estamos en esta tierra. A Él le preocupa nuestro carácter.

Nuestras vidas el día de hoy son simplemente actos de calentamiento para lo que viene adelante. Dios está probando tu responsabilidad para lo que sucederá más adelante. Dios te puso en esta tierra primeramente por dos razones: para conocerlo a Él de manera personal y para desarrollar carácter.

En las pasadas tres o cuatro décadas, hemos visto una marcada disminución en la responsabilidad a través de nuestra cultura. Muchos en nuestro mundo viven bajo el lema, “No soy responsable de nada. No es mi culpa”.

Esa perspectiva está en marcado contraste con lo que la Biblia dice: “Tengan cuidado de cómo se comportan. Vivan como gente que piensa lo que hace” Efesios 5:15 (TLA).

Si eres seguidor de Jesús, sabrás que Él es quien le da sentido a esta vida. Tú puedes vivir responsablemente porque sabes que eres un administrador de la vida que te ha sido dada. La gente responsable aprovecha al máximo la vida que le ha sido dada.

How You Can Be Made Right With God

“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.”

Romans 10:9-10 (NLT)

The Bible says in Romans 1:17, “The Good News shows how God makes people right with himself” (NCV).

How does God make you right with himself? Through Jesus. Here’s an explanation of what that means:

You can’t make yourself righteous.
Heaven is a perfect place. There’s no sin, sadness, evil, or injustice. But here’s the problem: All people are imperfect, and God can’t let sinful people into heaven because then it would be full of sin too.

Romans 3:20 says, “No one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are” (NLT).

The only people who think they can keep God’s laws are those that don’t know them—because God’s laws are perfect, and none of us are perfect. We cannot be made right on our own, and so God made a plan to rescue us from our sin and bring us into a relationship with him.

God sent Jesus to pay for your sins so you could be declared righteous.
When you break man’s laws, you pay man’s penalty. When you break God’s laws, you pay God’s penalty, which is eternity in hell. Somebody must pay for all the things you’ve done in life that hurt other people, yourself, and God. And so God sent Jesus on a rescue mission. He essentially said, “I’ll send my Son, Jesus, to pay the penalty. He will take your place so you don’t have to go to hell. You can be with me forever.”

Do you understand why the Gospel is called Good News? The Gospel says that everything you’ve ever done or will ever do wrong in life has already been paid for by Jesus Christ on the cross. Through Jesus you can be made right with God. That’s Good News!

The Bible says, “[God] saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy” (Titus 3:5 NLT).

You need to accept by faith what God did for you.
To be made right with God, you need to believe and accept by faith that Jesus paid for your sins when he died on the cross. The Bible says, “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved” (Romans 10:9-10 NLT).

Hallelujah! We all can be saved no matter who we are, what we’ve done, or how long we’ve done it.

Today is the day to settle this. If you aren’t sure if you’re going to heaven when you die, please pray this prayer: “Dear God, thank you that you made me, that you have a plan and purpose for my life, and that you made me to know you. Thank you for the choice that you’ve given me to accept or reject your offer of salvation. Today I humbly ask you to save me—not based on what I’ve done but based on what Jesus Christ did for me. I don’t understand it all, but as much as I know how, I want to put my trust in your Son. God, I want to get to know you. I want to learn to love you. I want to hunger and thirst for righteousness the rest of my life. I put my trust in your grace and in your forgiveness. I want you to be the Lord of my life. Amen.”

Puedes Conocer la Verdad Mirando a Dios

“Sólo él [Dios] te hará entender lo que es bueno y justo, y lo que es siempre tratar a todos por igual”. Proverbios 2:9 (TLA)

Como mencioné ayer, tres filosofías —individualismo, secularismo y relativismo— han devastado el termómetro moral de nuestra sociedad en las últimas décadas. Las consecuencias han sido dramáticas para la sociedad en general y para cada uno de nosotros individualmente.

¿Entonces qué hacemos al respecto?

Tienes que comenzar con Dios. Él encarna la verdad. Lo que está bien o mal tiene su significado en el carácter de Dios mismo. La deshonestidad es incorrecta porque Dios es honesto. La infidelidad es incorrecta porque Dios es fiel. Puedes conocer la verdad al observar cómo Dios interactúa con nosotros.

La Biblia dice: “Sólo él [Dios] te hará entender lo que es bueno y justo, y lo que es siempre tratar a todos por igual” Proverbios 2:9 (TLA). Podemos conocer el carácter de Dios a través de su Palabra. La Biblia nos dice lo que es verdad, nos guste o no lo que dice.

Una vez que nos encontramos con la verdad, la verdad de Dios, reconoceremos dos características clave de ella cada vez que la veamos.

Es universal. Se aplica a todos. Si no se aplica a todos, no es verdad. Es una opinión.Es inmutable. No será movido por novedades o modas. El adulterio estaba mal hace 2000 años, está mal hoy, y va a estar mal en 4000 años a partir de hoy.

La decisión es tuya. Hace unos años Newsweek resumió esta pregunta en la portada de su revista. Preguntaron: “¿De quién es la justicia? ¿De quién es la moralidad? ¿De quién es la comunidad? ¿De quién es la familia? ¿De quién son los valores?”.

Esa es tu elección todos los días. Nuestro mundo de hoy nos da tres opciones para descubrir la verdad: podemos elegir basar nuestra moralidad en lo que pensamos, en lo que piensan los demás o en lo que Dios piensa. Realmente no tenemos otras opciones.

Nuestra elección dictará cómo vivimos, cómo amamos y, algún día, cómo morimos. Pero es nuestra elección.

Four Ways to Pray Effectively

“Please remember what you told your servant Moses: ‘If you are unfaithful to me, I will scatter you among the nations. But if you return to me and obey my commands and live by them . . . I will bring you back to the place I have chosen for my name to be honored.’”

Nehemiah 1:8-9 (NLT)

When you pray, it turns your attention toward God and helps you to see that he is bigger and more powerful than any of your concerns. And as you watch God answer your prayers, your faith deepens.

Today I want to talk to you about four ways to pray effectively, based on the life of Nehemiah:

1. Base your request on God’s character. Pray like you know God will answer you. You can say something like, “God, I’m expecting you to answer this prayer because of who you are. You are a faithful God. You are a great God. You are a loving God. You are a wonderful God. You can handle this problem!”

2. Confess the sins you’re aware of. That’s what Nehemiah did. He said, “I confess that we have sinned against you. Yes, even my own family and I have sinned! We have sinned terribly by not obeying the commands, decrees, and regulations that you gave us” (Nehemiah 1:6-7 NLT). It wasn’t Nehemiah’s fault that Israel went into captivity. He wasn’t even born when it happened; he was most likely born in captivity. Yet he included himself in the sins of his people. He said, “I’ve been a part of the problem.”

3. Claim the promises of God. Nehemiah prayed to the Lord, saying, “Please remember what you told your servant Moses” (Nehemiah 1:8 NLT). Can you imagine saying “remember” to God? Nehemiah reminded God of a promise made to the nation of Israel. In effect, Nehemiah prayed, “God, you warned through Moses that if we were unfaithful, we would lose the land of Israel. But you also promised that if we’d repent, you’d give it back to us.”

Does God have to be reminded? No. Does he forget what he’s promised? No. Then why should you claim God’s promises when you pray? Because it helps you remember what God has promised.

4. Be specific in what you ask for. If you want specific answers to prayer, make specific requests. If your prayers consist of general requests, how will you know if they’re answered?

When you pray, you’re submitting yourself to God’s sovereignty, acknowledging that he is active in all the details of your life and able to provide for your every need. But prayer also brings you into alignment with God’s will, helping you understand how and why he answered the way he did.  

But never doubt this: God answers your prayers.
