La Respuesta de Dios Para Tu Temor

“Nosotros sabemos cuánto nos ama Dios y hemos puesto nuestra confianza en su amor… porque el amor perfecto expulsa todo temor”. 1 Juan 4:16, 18 (NTV)

He hablado con miles de personas acerca del por qué ellos no confían plenamente en Dios. Usualmente es una de tres cosas: Las personas tienen temor de que, si ellos dan su vida completamente a Dios, ellos perderán su libertad, ellos perderán su diversión y Dios los volverá en algún tipo de fanático religioso.

Nada de eso suena atractivo.

Al final de cuentas, las personas tienen temor. A pesar de todo Dios tiene una respuesta para nuestro temor de confiar en Él. La Biblia dice, “Nosotros sabemos cuánto nos ama Dios y hemos puesto nuestra confianza en su amor… porque el amor perfecto expulsa todo temor” 1 Juan 4:16, 18 (NTV).

Dios te ama. Fuiste creado como un acto del amor de Dios. Una y otra vez en la Biblia, Dios lo deja claro. Dios te pensó y te creó para amarte y para que lo amaras.

La más grande expresión del amor de Dios es Jesús. Dios vino a la tierra en la forma de un ser humano para demostrarnos como es en realidad. Él entonces nos mostró cuanto nos ama al morir en la cruz.

La cruz nos dice que podemos confiar completamente en Dios. Podemos confiar nuestras vidas a Él, porque dio la vida de su hijo por nosotros.

Si Dios está diciendo la verdad en su Palabra, es porque Él te ama, tú sabes que Él no te quitará tu libertad o la diversión o convertirte en un fanático.

Dios no es un aguafiestas cósmico. Él es tu Padre Celestial.

Entre más conoces a Dios, más confías en Él.

Six Ways to Work on Your Integrity

“We don’t maneuver and manipulate behind the scenes. And we don’t twist God’s Word to suit ourselves. Rather, we keep everything we do and say out in the open.”

2 Corinthians 4:2 (MSG)

Integrity demands that every area of your life be treated with the same intensity. You have the same commitment to excellence in your marriage as you do in your career. You have the same commitment to excellence in ministry as you do in your parenting.

Let me give you six ways you can work this week to become a person of integrity. You become a person of integrity by:

1. Keeping your promises.
People of integrity keep their word. If they say they’ll do it, they do it. If they say they’ll be there, they show up. The Bible says in Proverbs 25:14, “People who promise things that they never give are like clouds and wind that bring no rain” (GNT).

2. Paying your bills.
You may not think this is a big deal, but it’s a big deal to God. Do you spend more money than you make? That is a lack of integrity. Do you get yourself in debt for things that you can’t pay off? That is a lack of integrity. Psalm 37:21 says, “The wicked borrow and never pay back” (GNT).

3. Refusing to gossip.
God is looking for men and women of integrity who know how to keep a secret and not pass it around on social media. Don’t talk about people behind their back. Don’t even listen to that stuff, because a “gossip can’t be trusted with a secret, but someone of integrity won’t violate a confidence” (Proverbs 11:13 MSG).

4. Faithfully tithing.
Wherever you put your money first is what’s most important to you. The Bible says, “Is it right for a person to cheat God? Of course not, yet you are cheating me. ‘How?’ you ask. In the matter of tithes and offerings . . . Bring the full amount of your tithes to the Temple . . . Put me to the test and you will see that I will open the windows of heaven and pour out on you in abundance all kinds of good things” (Malachi 3:8, 10 GNT).

5. Doing your best at work.
Colossians 3:23 says, “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people” (NLT). If you’re a believer, your real boss is God, and whether anybody else sees your work, God does.

6. Being real with others.
A person of integrity doesn’t act one way in church and another way at work and another way on the golf course. “We refuse to wear masks and play games. We don’t maneuver and manipulate behind the scenes. And we don’t twist God’s Word to suit ourselves. Rather, we keep everything we do and say out in the open” (2 Corinthians 4:2 MSG).

¿Puedes Realmente Contar con Dios?

“Confía en el Señor con todo tu corazón; no dependas de tu propio entendimiento. Busca su voluntad en todo lo que hagas, y él te mostrará cuál camino tomar”. Proverbios 3:5-6 (NTV)

Para la mayoría de nosotros, la razón por la que no confiamos plenamente en Dios con nuestras vidas es porque realmente no lo conocemos. Por lo general, no confiamos en personas que no conocemos.

Lo mismo es verdad con Dios. Es por eso que Dios quiere que lo conozcas a Él verdaderamente, no una versión falsa que has aprendido de la cultura popular. Hay muchos mitos populares acerca de quién es Dios que simplemente no son verdaderos.

Por ejemplo, algunos creen que es como:

Un policía cósmico: es el policía grande y malo en el cielo que busca atraparnos haciendo algo mal.

El Papá Noel celestial: Él está allí para dar regalos. Él sonríe, asiente, y nunca presta atención a la lista traviesa.

El gran, hombre viejo: Él es el dios que no es tan diferente a ti. Él tiene sus propias faltas y fallas. Pero él no tiene ninguna de las respuestas.

La fuerza: Al igual que en la popular serie de ciencia ficción “Guerra de las Galaxias”, Dios es una fuerza impersonal que podemos doblegar a nuestra propia voluntad.

Si yo pensara que Dios fuera como cualquiera de esos conceptos erróneos populares, tampoco confiaría en Él. Pero no lo es. La Biblia pinta una imagen completamente diferente del carácter de Dios.

La verdad es que Dios es infinitamente digno de tu confianza porque ningún ser en el universo es tan capaz de influir en el mundo que te rodea como Él lo es. La Biblia dice: “Pero tú, mi Dios, eres quien me ayuda; tú, Señor, eres quien sustenta mi vida” Salmo 54:4 (RVC).

Dios tiene el poder (y el deseo) de sostenerte y ayudarte a superar lo que sea que estés pasando. Él quiere darte lo mejor de ti para tu vida, y es el único que puede ayudarte a llegar allí. Él es el creador del universo. Literalmente tiene todos los recursos en el universo que puede movilizar en tu nombre mientras busques seguirlo.

Pero la clave es que debes confiar en Él.

La Biblia dice: “Confía en el Señor con todo tu corazón; no dependas de tu propio entendimiento. Busca su voluntad en todo lo que hagas, y él te mostrará cuál camino tomar” Proverbios 3:5-6 (NTV). Puedes confiar en Dios con todo lo que eres porque Él puede ayudarte a tener éxito si lo haces. Eso no significa que Dios te dará todo el dinero, la fama o el poder que deseas. Pero si confías en Él, Dios te ayudará a tener éxito en lo que Él te ha llamado a hacer y ser.

What You Need to Keep Things Real

“How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.”

Psalm 119:9 (NIV)

Cultures around the world are absolutely obsessed with appearance and image. They’re scooting by, they’re skimming, and they’re cheating. They’re not keeping their promises. They’re pretending to be someone they’re not. They don’t have integrity. In other words, they’re hypocrites.

In ancient Greek culture, actors were referred to as hupokrites because they pretended to be someone else. It’s where we get the word “hypocrite.”

When you act one way with one group of people and another way with another group of people, you’re being a modern-day hupokrites. You’re showing a lack of authenticity—a lack of integrity. But God wants you to be exactly who he made you to be, no matter who is watching.

So how do you—as a follower of Jesus—keep it real when so many people are faking it? 

There’s only one way. You’ve got to care more about God’s approval than the approval of other people. That’s the only way you’ll ever become a person of integrity. 

If you care about what God thinks, you’re going to do the right thing. But if you care more about what other people think, you’re often going to do the wrong thing.

Psalm 119:9 says, “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word” (NIV).

The only way to know what God approves of and what he thinks of you is by reading the Bible. You must stay in God’s Word! If you don’t, you will not have the strength and the stamina to live with integrity.

If I don’t have a daily quiet time with God, if I miss it for even a few days, I notice it—and everyone else notices it—because I start getting cranky. If I didn’t stay connected to God through his Word, I would not have any spiritual power to clearly explain the Word of God to you. I would not have the strength to live with integrity.

Living with integrity takes spiritual power because what is right is often unpopular. On your own, you’ll get tired trying to do the right thing, trying to be real, and trying to keep the right motives—so you need to be equipped and refreshed.

Do you want to live as a person of integrity—someone who is the same no matter where you are or who you’re with? Then commit to spending daily time reading and studying the Bible, God’s Word. It’s the only place you’ll find the spiritual power you need.

Cuando haces ídolos, terminas como ellos

“Y los que hacen ídolos son iguales a ellos, como también todos los que confían en ellos”. S almo 115:8 (NTV)

Yo mencioné en el devocional de ayer que todos confían en algo. Nosotros también podemos convertir buenas cosas —como nuestros matrimonios, nuestras familias, o aún nuestros ministerios en la iglesia— en nuestros ídolos.

Pero confiar en otras cosas en vez de confiar en Dios, puede tener efectos devastadores en nuestras vidas. Si nosotros pensamos que la persona con la que estamos o lo que hacemos nos va a llenar completamente, nos estamos preparando para una profunda decepción. La Biblia nos recuerda esto en Jeremías cuando Él dice, “Los artesanos quedan deshonrados por los ídolos que hacen” Jeremías 10:14 (NTV).

Pero lo hacemos todo el tiempo con nuestras carreras, relaciones y cuentas bancarias. Actuamos como si todas esas cosas creadas nos dieran el significado de la vida.

Y cuando hacemos eso, sólo nos estamos dirigiendo hacia el fracaso. La Biblia dice, “El pobre iluso se alimenta de cenizas; confía en algo que no puede ayudarlo en absoluto. Sin embargo, no es capaz de preguntarse: «Este ídolo que tengo en la mano, ¿no será una mentira?»” Isaías 44:20 (NTV).

Oh sí, esos ídolos son mentira. Tristemente, los ídolos no terminan una vez que nos decepcionaron, sino que, ¡eventualmente nos esclavizan también!

La Biblia dice, “Y los que hacen ídolos son iguales a ellos, como también todos los que confían en ellos” Salmo 115:8 (NTV). Te conviertes en lo que más atesoras en la vida. Si atesoras el dinero, tarde o temprano te convertirás en materialista. Si atesoras el placer, eventualmente serás hedonista. Si atesoras las buenas obras, te convertirás en un pragmático. Si atesoras más que a todo a Cristo Jesús, te convertirás en un cristiano.

Así que, si poner cualquier cosa en primer lugar en nuestras vidas nos desvía, ¿por qué lo hacemos?

Queremos a un dios que podamos controlar. Queremos dominarlo. Si convertimos al dinero en nuestro dios, sentimos como que lo podemos controlar. Si convertimos a otras personas en nuestros dioses, nos disponemos a controlarlos, y eso nos hace sentir bien.

Pero no podemos controlar a Dios. Él dice, “No me reduzcas. No intentes hacerme encajar en tu estilo de vida. No intentes controlarme”

How Integrity Blesses You

“A righteous person lives on the basis of his integrity. Blessed are his children after he is gone.”

Proverbs 20:7 (GW)

The Bible says that God blesses those who have integrity—those who have pure hearts. As Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure in heart” (Matthew 5:8 NIV). 

So what blessings can you expect when you live your life with authenticity and a pure heart?

You’ll have the blessing of personal confidence.
When you have integrity, you become the kind of person that other people like to be around because you know who you are and where you’re going. 

Proverbs 10:9 says, “People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will be exposed” (NLT).

When you don’t have integrity, it’s like walking on an icy path after a snowstorm. You’re putting every bit of your energy into trying not to fall. But when you have integrity, you’re standing on solid ground.

You’ll have the blessing of a lasting legacy.
Your greatest legacy is your integrity because it will last from generation to generation. Everything else you do gets lost. When you’re gone, your money will be divided and spent among your family. Your work will be given to somebody else. All the trophies you’ve earned will be thrown in the trash and taken to the dump.

But your character is going to influence the lives of the people around you and even the lives of the next generation. It is a lasting legacy.

The Bible says in Proverbs 20:7, “A righteous person lives on the basis of his integrity. Blessed are his children after he is gone” (GW). 

You’ll have the blessing of rewards in eternity.
Matthew 25:21 says, “You are a good and loyal servant. Because you were loyal with small things, I will let you care for much greater things” (NCV).

We tend to think that rewards come from the big moments of life, when everybody is watching. But it’s the small moments that reveal real integrity. Every small word of encouragement you give this week will be rewarded in eternity. Every small act of kindness will be rewarded in eternity. Every time you reject a temptation, you will be rewarded in eternity. 

Integrity is powerful. It makes a difference not just now but for eternity!

Talk It Over

Think of a time when you should have had integrity but didn’t. How were you affected emotionally, spiritually, and physically?
How does your integrity make a difference in the next generation?
What small acts can you do this week that no one will notice but will demonstrate your integrity to God?

Where will you spend eternity?

The Bible says you can only get to heaven by trusting in God through his Son, Jesus Christ. You cannot earn your way into heaven: “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).

If you’re ready to commit your life to Jesus, start with this prayer:

“Dear God, you have promised that if I believe in your Son, Jesus Christ, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

"I confess I have sinned, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died to take away my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen."

No Confiar en Dios te Lleva al Estrés

“Estos confían en sus carros de guerra, aquellos confían en sus corceles, pero nosotros confiamos en el nombre del Señor nuestro Dios”. Salmo 20:7 (NVI)

Todos confían en algo. La pregunta es, ¿En qué o en quién confías tú?

Nuestra sociedad tiende a despreciar la confianza —o al menos eso decimos. Somos escépticos de todos y de todo. No confiamos en el gobierno. Los empleados no confían en sus empleadores. Los clientes no confían en los negocios. Cuando llegas al fondo de la desconfianza hoy, encuentras que el decaimiento de la verdad es una gran parte de ello.

La verdad y la confianza van juntas. Confías en las personas que te dicen la verdad. No confías en las personas si no crees que ellos te están diciendo la verdad. Y si no crees en la verdad absoluta, entonces no puedes confiar que nadie te dirá la verdad.

Nuestra falta de confianza nos causa un tremendo estrés en la vida. Nacimos para confiar. Dios nos formó con la capacidad y el deseo de confiar en algo superior a nosotros mismos, porque quería que nosotros tuviéramos una relación con Él.

Si no confías en Dios, crearás algo más en lo que puedas confiar. Puede ser un diploma en la pared, el dinero en el banco, tu esposa, tu carrera, o un pasatiempo. El deseo de confiar en algo superior a nosotros mismos no es nada nuevo. Los escritores bíblicos estaban extremadamente conscientes de ello en sus culturas. La Biblia dice en Salmo 20:7 “Estos confían en sus carros de guerra, aquellos confían en sus corceles, pero nosotros confiamos en el nombre del Señor nuestro Dios” (NVI).

La Biblia tiene una palabra para las cosas en las que confiamos en lugar de Dios. La Biblia le llama a eso un “ídolo”. La palabra de Dios dice que, por nuestro bien, necesitamos alejarnos de los ídolos: “Por lo tanto, tengan mucho cuidado de no corromperse haciendo ídolos” Deuteronomio 4:15b-16a (NVI).

Do You Act the Same in Public and In Private?

“God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.”

Matthew 5:8 (NLT)

Are you working to build your life on values that last? If you are, you need to learn to live with integrity.

The Bible says in Matthew 5:8, “God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God” (NLT).

To “see God” means to experience the presence of God. Believers who have pure hearts get to feel the power of God. They experience the pardon of God. They get to know the purpose of God for their lives. They get to live in the peace of God. 

Do you want to be one of those people? We don’t talk a lot these days about being pure in heart, but instead we use a word with a similar meaning—“integrity.” 

To have integrity does not mean you are perfect because if it did, none of us would have it! So what does it mean to have integrity?

Integrity is wholeness.
A lot of people think of their lives like a pie, and the different parts of their lives are the pieces of the pie. Someone might describe their life like this:

“This slice of the pie is my career. This is my work life. This is my spiritual life. Then this is my family life. That one is my social life. Then over here is my secret life—my compulsions, addictions, and the things nobody else knows about.”

When you segment your life like that, you lack integrity because your life is not a whole. Integrity means you’re the same person everywhere and with everybody—in your speech, actions, and motives—no matter which part of life you’re walking through.

Integrity is uncorrupted motivation.
When you have integrity, you do the right thing, and you do it for the right reason. You have unmixed, pure motives. You’re sincere and straightforward in every area of your life and with all people. You pray so you can talk with God, not so you can impress other people.

The Bible says, “The Lord detests people with crooked hearts, but he delights in those with integrity” (Proverbs 11:20 NLT).

We’re interested in image, but God is interested in integrity. We’re interested in reputation, but God is interested in character. Reputation has to do with what everybody thinks you are; integrity is what you really are. Your reputation is connected to who you appear to be in public; integrity is connected to who you are when you’re all alone with God.

Have you been more concerned about your image and reputation than your character and integrity? Commit to being a person of integrity today.

Por qué Deberíamos Responder con Gracia

“Los necios dan rienda suelta a su enojo, pero los sabios calladamente lo controlan”. Proverbios 29:11 (NTV)

No puedes controlar gran parte de lo que sucede en la vida. Como mencioné hace algunos días en estos devocionales, no tuviste control de quiénes fueron tus padres, o dónde naciste y de una gran cantidad de factores que tienen una influencia significativa en tu vida.

Pero puedes elegir cómo reaccionar a lo que la vida pone en tu camino, puedes enojarte, estresarte, hundirte en la depresión cuando vengan los maltratos —o puedes responder con gracia.

La decisión siempre es tuya. La Biblia dice: “Los necios dan rienda suelta a su enojo, pero los sabios calladamente lo controlan” Proverbios 29:11 (NTV). Para vivir de manera responsable, debemos poner nuestra mente en marcha antes de poner nuestra boca en marcha. Debemos pensar antes de actuar. 

Cuando otros causan dolor en nuestras vidas, a menudo respondemos tratando de vengarnos. Irónicamente, en nuestro esfuerzo por “vengarnos” de esa persona que nos ha hecho mal, nos hundimos al nivel de esa persona.

Dios nos llama a una respuesta mucho mayor: al perdón.

Cuando eres maltratado, la reacción adecuada no es explotar o encerrarnos en nosotros mismos, las dos reacciones son irresponsables. En cambio, Dios nos llama a responder a los maltratos con calma, amor y verdad.

Esta es la conclusión: confía en Dios que el resolverá el problema, Él tiene mejores recursos para hacerlo que tú.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Qué estrategias puedes usar cuando estás herido, para no reaccionar sin pensar?¿Por qué aprender a controlar tus reacciones es una cuestión de fe?¿Cómo pueden otras personas en tu vida hacerte rendir cuantas a medida que aprendes a controlar tus reacciones de manera más responsable?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? Make a Plan to Be Merciful

“God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”

Matthew 5:7 (NLT)

God extends his mercy to us, even though we don’t deserve it and can’t earn it. All we have to do is ask for it: “O Lord, you are so good and kind, so ready to forgive, so full of mercy for all who ask your aid” (Psalm 86:5 TLB).

In yesterday’s devotional, we talked about seven characteristics of mercy. Today, I want to show you some ways to demonstrate those characteristics in your own life. 

How can you be merciful?

Be patient with people’s quirks. What person in your life has irritating quirks? How can you practice patience with them this week?

Help anyone around you who is hurting. Who around you is obviously hurting? What’s one specific way you can help that person this week? If you can’t think of anybody, then you’re not paying attention. Look closer!

Give people a second chance. Who do you need to give a second chance to? How can you show that person mercy and compassion this week?

Do good to those who hurt you. Maybe you’re suffering from an old wound that you have not been able to let go of. You need to forgive and then turn it around for good. Who is that person in your life? Will you make a phone call or a visit to them this week?

Be kind to those who offend you. Who offends you? Maybe it’s a politician or a comedian that you can pray for. Maybe it’s a friend who has different views and says some pretty offensive things on social media. How can you be intentional about showing kindness to that person this week?

Build bridges of love to the unpopular. When you think of an outcast, who is the first person that comes to mind? Who spends their lunch breaks eating alone or doesn’t seem to have any friends at soccer games? What specific thing will you do this week to bridge the gap between you and that person with love?

Value relationships over rules. Who is an unbeliever you could invite over for dinner in the next few weeks? Will you then step up and invite that person to church? This is your ministry of mercy.

Think over your answers to all of today’s questions. That’s your plan for showing mercy. God has offered his mercy to you. You’ll experience that mercy in new ways when you start offering it to others.

Talk It Over

Which of these seven ways to show mercy comes most naturally to you?
Which of the seven ways to show mercy is most difficult for you? Why do you think that is?
How has someone shown mercy to you? What difference has it made in your life?

God saves you for eternity.

You were made by God to last forever, and he wants you in his forever family. But there’s one condition: You need to ask God for his mercy and forgiveness. Acts 2:21 says, “Anyone who asks for mercy from the Lord shall have it and shall be saved” (TLB).

If you’re ready to accept God’s love and commit your life to him, then pray this prayer:

“Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is your Son. I believe that he died for my sin and that you raised him to life. Jesus, I want to trust you as my Savior and follow you as Lord from this day forward. Please guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
