You’re Not Reading This by Accident

“By entering through faith into what God has always wanted to do for us—set us right with him, make us fit for him—we have it all together with God because of our Master Jesus.”

Romans 5:1 (MSG)

You’re not reading this by accident.

No, God knew before you were born that you would be here at this moment. He planned to get your attention for just a few seconds so he could say this to you: “I’ve seen every hurt in your life, and I’ve never stopped loving you. You matter to me. I love you more than you will ever know. I made you to love you, and I’ve been waiting for you to love me back.” 

God is saying, “I want the rest of your life to be the best of your life. I’m with you, and I’m for you. I want to save you from your past. I want to save you for the purpose for which I made you. And I want to save you by my grace. If you’ll let me do that, I will give you peace with me, peace in your life, and peace with other people. But you have to open the door and receive the Christmas gift.” 

If you gave me a Christmas gift and I never opened it, you would be disappointed. And it would be a worthless gift because I wouldn’t receive the benefit of a gift I never opened. 

Jesus Christ is God’s Christmas gift to you. Yet some of us have gone Christmas after Christmas and never opened the best gift of all: God’s gift of salvation. Why even celebrate Christmas if you’re not going to open the biggest gift? It doesn’t make sense to leave unwrapped the gift of your past forgiven, a purpose for living, and a home in heaven.

Jesus Christ says to you, “I can replace the frustration in your heart with peace. I can replace the guilt, resentment, shame, and grudges with forgiveness. I can replace the worry and anxiety with confidence and faith. I can replace depression or despair with hope. I can replace emptiness with meaning and purpose. I can replace confusion with clarity. But I’m not going to break down the door of your heart. You have to invite me in. It makes no difference who you are or where you’re from. If you want me and you are ready to do as I say, the door is open.”  

If you haven’t trusted in Jesus and committed to following him, why wait any longer?
Your sins separate you from God. And it is only God’s grace that can get you back into right relationship with him.

The Bible says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).

If you’re ready to make peace with your Creator, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, I don’t want my sin to separate me from you any longer. You promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. You promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today, I’m turning over every part of my life to your management.

“I want to live the way you created me to live and use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

No hay Navidad sin la Cruz

“Pues, Hay un Dios y un Mediador que puede reconciliar a la humanidad con Dios, y es el hombre Cristo Jesús. Él dio su vida para comprarles la libertad a todos. Este es el mensaje que Dios le dio al mundo justo en el momento preciso”. 1 Timoteo 2:5-6 (NTV)

Navidad sin la cruz, es irrelevante. Si Jesús solo se hubiera quedado como un bebé en su pesebre, podrías dejar de leer esto ahora mismo —no tendría sentido. Sin la cruz, no hay razón para gastar un mes completo preparando la celebración de su nacimiento. No tendría sentido poner luces navideñas, tocar música, enviar tarjetas, o comprar regalos.

El mundo entero se detiene un día al año para celebrar un día que dividió la historia en dos, A.C. y D.C. Dios vino a la tierra y cambió la historia humana. Y por esto, el mundo nunca será el mismo.

Pero no hubiera importado nada sin la cruz. Dios envió a su hijo como el Salvador al mundo para que todas las personas pudieran conocerlo.

La Biblia dice, “Pues, Hay un Dios y un Mediador que puede reconciliar a la humanidad con Dios, y es el hombre Cristo Jesús. Él dio su vida para comprarles la libertad a todos. Este es el mensaje que Dios le dio al mundo justo en el momento preciso” 1 Timoteo 2:5-6 (NTV).

En la Biblia el símbolo del auto sacrificio de Jesús es llamado “el Cordero Sacrificial”. La Biblia usa esta metáfora porque los corderos son inofensivos. No son predadores. Son inocentes. Jesús no dañó a nadie, y no merecía morir, pero Dios permitió que se sacrificara por nosotros, siendo el Hijo de Dios, se entregó por todos nosotros.

Dios conoce el dolor de perder a un hijo, porque Él envió a su Hijo a morir en tu lugar. Y Él hizo eso por cada persona que ha caminado en el planeta. Ninguna persona está fuera del amor y el alcance de Dios.

Ni siquiera tú.

Jesus Offers Three Kinds of Life

“I have come in order that you might have life—life in all its fullness.”

John 10:10 (GNT)

Most people never learn how to really live. They’re just existing.

Jesus said in John 10:10, “I have come in order that you might have life—life in all its fullness” (GNT). He came at Christmas to give us three kinds of life that take care of our past, our present, and our future.

First, Jesus came to give new life. That means everything we’ve ever done wrong is completely forgiven and forgotten. He wipes the slate clean!

When someone says they’re “born again,” that just means Jesus gave them a fresh start in life. If you step across the line and accept God’s grace and ask him to forgive you, then you don’t need to feel guilty about your past. You get new life.

Second, Jesus came to give abundant life. You were made for more than survival, success, or earthly significance. You were made for a life of purpose. Jesus calls it abundant life—a life where your values and your meaning and your significance all come together. That’s the life that God meant for you to live.

Third, Jesus came to give eternal life. God will take care of your past, your present, and your future. That’s his Christmas gift to you in Jesus Christ.

I once asked Peter Drucker, the famous management consultant, when he decided to become a believer. He said, “When I discovered what grace was really all about, when I fully understood it, I realized I was never going to get a better deal, and I opened my life to Christ.”

At the first Christmas, the Wise Men saw a bright star shining in the sky and followed it to find the baby Jesus. But the Wise Men weren’t the only people who saw it. Everybody would have seen the star—but nobody else did anything about it. The Wise Men were wise because they knew that following the star would lead to the greatest gift.

How wise are you? It’s one thing to know Jesus is the Light of the World. It’s another thing to let him light up your life.

Just like you cannot live without the light of the sun, you cannot live without spiritual light. Open up to the light of Christ, and you’ll find new, abundant, and eternal life.

Tres Maneras en que Dios comparte tu Dolor

“El Señor está cerca de los que tienen quebrantado el corazón; él rescata a los de espíritu destrozado”. Salmo 34:18 (NTV)

No sé qué dolor estás pasando en esta Navidad. No conozco lo que causó ese dolor. Pero sé que Dios sí lo sabe, y lo entiende.

Dios no es una fuerza distante. Tampoco es insensible. La Biblia enseña que Dios se involucra en nuestro dolor. Y no solo le interesa tu dolor; también lo siente. Él comparte tu dolor. La Biblia dice: “El Señor está cerca de los que tienen quebrantado el corazón; él rescata a los de espíritu destrozado” Salmo 34:18 (NTV).

Puedo saber esto aunque no conozco nada de tu dolor. ¿Por qué? Porque conozco a Dios. Y conozco la Trinidad –Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo. Cada parte de la Trinidad está activa en tu vida mientras experimentas dolor.

Primero, tu Padre celestial comparte tu dolor.

Dios entiende y comparte tu dolor porque Él te formó. Dios es quién te dio la habilidad de experimentar placer y dolor. La Biblia lo dice de esta manera: “Él es quien formó el corazón de todos, y quien conoce a fondo todas sus acciones” Salmo 33:15 (NVI). Dios entiende las emociones porque Él es un Dios emocional. La única razón por la que tienes emociones es porque fuiste hecho a imagen de Dios. Si Dios no tuviera emociones, tú no tendrías emociones.

Segundo, Jesús entiende tu dolor.

Jesús entiende tu dolor porque Él lo ha sentido. Él ha sufrido, también. Él ha sido traicionado, abandonado y se ha cansado —igual que tú. Él vino a la tierra y vivió como un humano. Él experimentó en forma humana todo lo que nosotros experimentamos. La Biblia dice de Jesús, “Nuestro Sumo Sacerdote comprende nuestras debilidades, porque enfrentó todas y cada una de las pruebas que enfrentamos nosotros, sin embargo, él nunca pecó” Hebreos 4:15 (NTV).

Tercero, el Espíritu Santo ruega por ti mientras experimentas dolor.

La Biblia dice, “Del mismo modo, y puesto que nuestra confianza en Dios es débil, el Espíritu Santo nos ayuda. Porque no sabemos cómo debemos orar a Dios, pero el Espíritu mismo ruega por nosotros, y lo hace de modo tan especial que no hay palabras para expresarlo” Romanos 8:26 (TLA).

La Biblia dice que cuanto estés en medio del dolor, el Espíritu Santo hace oraciones por ti, con gemidos que no pueden expresarse con palabras. Dios entiende tu dolor, Él sabe lo que estás sintiendo, y Él convierte esos sentimientos en oraciones.

Si te sientes lastimado, no tienes que pasar por eso solo. Dios entiende tu dolor porque Él creó tus emociones. Jesús conoce tu dolor de primera mano. Y el Espíritu Santo está orando por ti.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

Dios nunca te ha dejado atravesar solo tu dolor. ¿Cómo respondes a eso?¿Con cuál dolor has tenido que lidiar que se te hizo difícil sentir que Dios estaba justo a tu lado? ¿Por qué?¿Quién en tu vida necesita escuchar este mensaje? ¿Cómo puedes compartirlo con esa persona?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? Only Jesus Can Do the Saving

“When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun!”

2 Corinthians 5:17 (TLB)

For three summers in my youth, I was a lifeguard. And like every lifeguard understands, I knew that you can’t save somebody as long as they’re trying to save themselves. When someone’s drowning, they’re typically panicked. They’re flailing around, trying to stay afloat. If a lifeguard tries to help them while they’re still trying to save themselves, then they’re going to take the lifeguard down with them. So a good lifeguard will often swim out and wait until that person is exhausted and gives up. When they stop trying and they start trusting, the lifeguard’s job is easier. You just put an arm over their shoulder and swim back to shore.

You can’t save somebody when they’re trying to save themselves.

Some people are trying to save themselves spiritually. They may think they’re going to get into heaven because of their good works. But God doesn’t grade on a curve. Heaven is perfect, and we’re not. We need someone who is perfect to get us in on his ticket, and that someone is Jesus Christ. If there were any way we could get into heaven without trusting Jesus as our Savior, then God would have done it. If we could go to heaven by just trying to be a genuinely nice person, then Jesus’ death and resurrection were pointless.

There’s no way we’re getting into heaven on our own effort. That’s why God came up with the plan for Jesus Christ to come to earth and die for our sins. But he can’t save you until you stop trying to save yourself. Stop trying, and start trusting.

The fastest thing in the universe is the speed of light: 186,000 miles a second. If you don’t believe it, try opening your refrigerator door before the light comes on. You can’t beat it!

But there’s one thing faster, and that’s God’s answer to you when you ask him to save you. It is instant. There’s no delay. There’s no waiting period. The moment you say, “God, help! I need you to save me,” God’s response is instant. Your salvation is secure. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “a new life has begun!” (TLB).

It will be the most life-changing prayer you’ll ever pray.

Talk It Over

In what ways have you been trying to save yourself?
Why do you think God made it necessary for you to surrender to him in order to be saved?

I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today, I’m turning over every part of my life to your management.

“I want to live the way you created me to live and use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

La Navidad es acerca de tu Eternidad

“Pero a todos los que creyeron en él y lo recibieron, les dio el derecho de llegar a ser hijos de Dios”. Juan 1:12 (NTV)

Enciende tu televisor o navega en el internet en esta Navidad, y descubrirás todo tipo de mensajes de Navidad. Pero para el que inventó la Navidad —Dios— sólo hay un mensaje que realmente importa.

Dios quiere compartir la eternidad contigo.

De eso es lo que se trata la Navidad. No fuiste creado sólo para vivir 80 o 90 años en la Tierra y luego morir. Eres mucho más valioso que eso para Dios. Dios tiene algunos planes a largo plazo para ti. Él te hizo para vivir por siempre.

Un día tu corazón se detendrá. Ese será el final de tu corazón pero no será tu fin. ¡Vas a vivir eternamente —miles de millones de años! Y Dios quiere que seas parte de su familia.

Dios envió a Jesús a la Tierra para que naciera y un día muriera por tus pecados y entonces puedas estar por siempre con Él.

Esta es la gran noticia de la Navidad. Este ofrecimiento está disponible para todas las personas. La Biblia dice de Jesús: “Pero a todos los que creyeron en él y lo recibieron, les dio el derecho de llegar a ser hijos de Dios” Juan 1:12 (NTV).

Dios quiere pasar la eternidad contigo, así que hizo que el camino hacia él fuera sencillo: Crees y recibes. Crees que Jesucristo murió por tus pecados y lo recibes en tu vida. Dios envió a su Hijo a la Tierra hace miles de años para morir por ti. Ese es el primer regalo de Navidad de Dios, enviado a ti miles de años antes de que nacieras.

Honestamente, celebrar la Navidad y no recibir el primer regalo que Dios tiene para ti  es una tontería. Si haces eso, pierdes completamente la esencia. Hechos 10:34-35 dice: “…para Dios todos somos iguales.  Dios ama a todos los que lo obedecen, y también a los que tratan bien a los demás y se dedican a hacer lo bueno, sin importar de qué país sean“ (TLA).

Reflexiona sobre esto:

Si Dios envió a Jesús a la tierra para morir por ti, ¿qué dice eso acerca de tu valor para Él?Piensa en tus planes navideños. ¿Qué puedes hacer para enfatizar a tu familia y amigos que el mejor regalo de Dios fue enviar a su Hijo a morir por ellos?¿Has aceptado el regalo número uno de Dios para ti en esta Navidad? Si no, ¿Que estás esperando?

No importa lo que hayas hecho o dónde hayas estado, tienes un lugar listo y esperándote en la familia eterna de Dios. La invitación está abierta. Solo cree y recibe.

¿Estás listo? Aquí hay una oración con la que puedes comenzar:

“Querido Dios, sé que cuando muera, te daré cuenta de mi vida. Sé que he pecado contra ti y he vivido según mi plan, no el tuyo. Quiero que eso cambie, comenzando ahora mismo. Quiero alejarme de mis pecados y volverme hacia ti.

Gracias por enviar a Jesús a morir por todo lo que he hecho mal, para no tener que pagar la condena. Sé que no merezco tu perdón. Sé que solo tu gracia puede salvarme, Señor. Nunca podría ser lo suficientemente bueno para entrar en un lugar perfecto.

Jesús, gracias por amarme tanto que tomaste toda mi culpa sobre ti. Me hiciste aceptable para el Cielo, y humildemente te pido que me salves y me hagas parte de tu familia para siempre. Yo creo en ti, Jesús. Y creo que cumplirás tu promesa de salvarme de manera instantánea, completa y por toda la eternidad. En el nombre de Jesús. Amén”.

When It’s Not the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

“I am here with good news for you, which will bring great joy to all the people. This very day in David’s town your Savior was born—Christ the Lord!”

Luke 2:10-11 (GNT)

Jesus came at Christmas to heal our hurts, including our hidden ones.

No matter who you meet, anywhere around the world, you will always have one thing in common: Everybody has a hidden wound.

Everyone has a wound they’re carrying that’s hidden from everybody else. You may be hiding it well. It may look like you’re successful and happy and you’ve got it all together, but we all know you don’t—because nobody does!

Maybe something was said or done to you a long time ago, and it hurt. Or maybe you have regret about what you said or did to someone, and you’ve hidden it away. You don’t want anybody to know about it because it’s painful and embarrassing.

Then Christmas comes around, and it’s supposed to be the happiest time of the year—a season to celebrate. But in reality, a lot of people are lonely and hurting and dealing with unresolved issues with their families. They have to work even harder over the holidays to keep the effects of their hidden wounds from surfacing.

No matter how you are hurting this Christmas, Jesus Christ can heal you. He can take your resentment, worry, guilt, fear, bitterness, boredom, and pain and cover it with the light of his love. This is what it means for Jesus to be the Light of the World.

Doctors today have discovered there is healing power in light. They use light therapy to stimulate parts of the brain that have been damaged. Lasers are used in all kinds of surgeries. I had laser surgery on my eyes many years ago to restore my sight.

It’s pretty amazing what doctors can do today to heal people. But only God can heal a broken heart, spirit, relationship, or dream. He came to earth to heal your hurt.

When Jesus was born, an angel declared, “I am here with good news for you, which will bring great joy to all the people. This very day in David’s town your Savior was born—Christ the Lord!” (Luke 2:10-11 GNT).

The good news the angels delivered on the first Christmas is good news for you today too. There is hope for whatever hurts you may have pushed away. When you bring your hurts into the light of Christ, he will heal you and restore your joy.

¡No puedes Dar más de lo que Dios Da!

“Con generosidad le darás, y no te dolerá el corazón cuando le des, ya que el Señor tu Dios te bendecirá por esto en todo tu trabajo y en todo lo que emprendas”. Deuteronomio 15:10 (LBLA)

Dios quiere bendecir tu vida. Él ha creado el universo para que vivas la vida plena que Él quiere y seas bendecido cuando sigues sus mandamientos.

La Biblia dice una y otra vez: Dios bendice a los que son generosos.

Mira este versículo: “Con generosidad le darás, y no te dolerá el corazón cuando le des, ya que el Señor tu Dios te bendecirá por esto en todo tu trabajo y en todo lo que emprendas” Deuteronomio 15:10 (LBLA).

¿Quieres que Dios bendiga tu trabajo? ¿Quieres que Él bendiga todo lo que emprendas? ¡Por supuesto que sí! Entonces no seas avaro. No seas egoísta. Se generoso —con tu tiempo, tus elogios, tu dinero y tu energía. Se generoso en cada área de tu vida.

Considera esto: Puedes creer en las promesas de Dios o pensar que Él está mintiendo. Realmente no hay otra alternativa. Encontrarás más promesas en la Biblia acerca de la generosidad que de cualquier otra cosa. ¿Por qué? Porque es un principio que Dios quiere que aprendamos.

He descubierto esto, una y otra vez en mi vida. Kay y yo hemos estado sembrando más cada año desde que nos casamos. No le dije a nadie por casi 30 años. Al principio hubo algunos años apretados. A veces podíamos aumentar nuestro diezmo sólo 0.25%. Incluso en tiempos difíciles, hemos querido ser más generoso que el año anterior. Queríamos romper el control del materialismo en nuestras vidas y ser más como Jesús en el proceso. ¡Y Dios nos bendijo más y más!

No podemos dar más que Dios. Él sólo sigue bendiciéndonos y bendiciéndonos. Es un increíble sentido de la alegría de ver a Dios dándote más cada vez. ¡Yo quiero que tengas esa misma alegría!

Bendice a otras personas, y Dios te bendecirá más de lo que puedes imaginar.

You Need a More Powerful Light

“I am the Light of the world. So if you follow me, you won’t be stumbling through the darkness, for living light will flood your path.”

John 8:12 (TLB)

We all have dark days. There are dark days of disappointment when your dreams crumble and your plans fall apart. There are dark days when you’re stressed out by finances or relationships, dark days of disease and divorce and losing a loved one.

If you’re in those dark days, then you need a guiding light.

When we have a problem we can’t control, we don’t typically turn to God. Instead, we decide we’ll figure it out on our own. We go back in the recesses of our mind to an emotional chest of drawers and pull out all kinds of little flashlights.

We pull out the flashlight that says “Relationships” and start shining it on our life. We think if we could just get married or have kids or if our kids would grow up and go off to college, then our life would be great.

When that doesn’t work, we pull out another flashlight that says “Job/Career.” If we could just change jobs, then everything would be right again. But that doesn’t work either.

So we try the “Sex” or “Money” or “Seminar/Self-help” flashlights, hoping to make our way clearer.

And when that doesn’t work, we pull out another flashlight that says “Location.” If we could just move to another state or wherever, then things would get better. But then we realize that when we move to another location, we take all of our problems with us—because the biggest problem is inside us.

We don’t need a flashlight. We need the Light. We need the Light of the World, Jesus Christ.

Jesus is not some puny little flashlight. He is a searchlight! He is a giant, powerful light that lets you see five miles down the road.

In your dark days, don’t put your trust in the flashlights that depend on your own power. Just flip the switch that turns on God’s light in your life—in other words, have faith. When you tell God that you don’t know which way to go and that you’re feeling unsure and confused, but that you’re going to trust him anyway, that’s faith.

Ask Jesus to help you to trust him, and he will.

Talk It Over

Why is anything run on your own power going to be insufficient for living God’s purpose for your life?
Do you feel like it’s enough some days to only have a little faith? Why or why not?
What does it mean to follow Jesus? In what ways do you want to be more faithful in following him?

If you haven’t trusted in Jesus and committed to following him, why wait any longer?

Your sins separate you from God. And it is only God’s grace that can get you back into right relationship with him.

The Bible says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).


If you’re ready to make peace with your Creator, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, I don’t want my sin to separate me from you any longer. You have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. You have promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today, I’m turning over every part of my life to your management.

“I want to live the way you created me to live and use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Querido Amigo,

Es difícil pensar en otro momento del año en el cual nuestras vidas sean más agitadas que alrededor de Navidad y de fin de año. Asistimos a fiestas, preparamos comida, decoramos nuestros hogares, visitamos parientes, compramos regalos y simplemente terminamos agotados.

En 1 Reyes 19, leemos acerca del profeta de Dios, Elías, que se encontró fatigado y agotado. Pero Dios hizo tres cosas para llenar su tanque, y Dios puede hacer estas tres cosas por ti también.

Dios hace que tu cuerpo descanse. El Salmo 23:2 dice: “En lugares de delicados pastos me hará descansar” (RVR1960). No puedes estar fuerte espiritualmente cuando estás agotado físicamente. Mientras Elías dormía, Dios le envió un ángel que le trajo pan y agua. Elías comió, bebió y volvió a dormirse. Y entonces el ángel vino otra vez. La Biblia dice: “Elías comió y bebió y recuperó sus fuerzas” 1 Reyes 19:8 (RVC).Dios te anima a liberarte de tus frustraciones. Después de que Elías reposó y descansó, llegó a una cueva, donde Dios le permitió descargar sus sentimientos. Dios quiere que tú hagas lo mismo: “Depositen en él toda ansiedad, porque él cuida de ustedes” 1 Pedro 5:7 (NVI).Dios te recuerda que debes volver a centrarte en Él. Dios vino a Elías con “un sonido suave y delicado“ 1 Reyes 19:12 (DHH). Dios también te ofrece su presencia silenciosa cuando te concentras en Él. La Biblia dice: “«El SEÑOR es todo lo que tengo y necesito»; por eso siempre tendré esperanza en él” Lamentaciones 3:24 (NTV).

¿Te unirás a mí en la oración de Lamentaciones 3:24 durante las fiestas navideñas y el nuevo año? De hecho, podemos orar ahora mismo: “Dios, Tú eres todo lo que tengo y necesito; tendré esperanza en ti”.

En esta temporada, oro para que experimentes la paz restauradora de Dios. Y, quiero que sepas que Esperanza Diaria está aquí para acompañarte. Cada recurso está diseñado para ayudarte a descansar en Cristo y vivir Sus planes para tu vida, al igual que tu apoyo hace por los demás.
