Casey’s Thoughts

Intentional or Unintentional?  That is the question.  After being overwhelmed with a million books on my TBR list, releasing my debut novel (No Turing Back- Full Circle #1,) writing reviews, and just dealing with life.  I FINALLY was able to read Intentional this week.  YAY!!!!!!!!! **Happy dancing!**  Here are my thoughts!

This book is exactly what I needed!  An easy ready with a great storyline, twists & turns, and characters that you will

Overall, I loved the fact that this book was an easy read.  The only problem I had was that sometimes I got confused with the dates going back and forth… but for me that is minor.  It didn’t effect my thoughts on the book and how much I enjoyed it.

Now, here’s where this story made an impact on me…

Personally, from the beginning I

This book felt very real to me.  The storyline could happen, and dealing with a specific population of people every day in my full time job… I see little aspects of it all the time!  Here is where I’m going to be vague because for you to have a clue what I’m talking about you have to READ Intentional by MK Harkins!  You will not be disappointed… well, I was a little but in the ending.  But it’s all good because there is a book #2, and I’m hoping for happily ever after for my favorite guy in the story ;)

Meet MK Harkins

I have always been a voracious reader. After hitting a dry spell of reading material, I decided to write the kind of book I would like to read. This resulted in the creation of my debut novel, Intentional.

I am currently working on a sequel based on the life of one of Intentional’s supporting characters.

When I’m not writing novels, I enjoy traveling the world, rain, watching movies and reading (!)

I also run my own business in my current hometown of Mercer Island, Washington.

Chelly’s Thoughts

After being betrayed and getting her heart broken by both her best friend and her boyfriend, Bailey Hart has sworn off guys.  She will spend her summer focusing on basketball and her future, which hopefully takes her away from Milton, Oklahoma – a small town where everyone knows everyone and rumors run rampant.  But then she sees him – who is this attractive new stranger in town?

Ty Jacobs is the new guy in town.  He moved from Detroit to finish his senior year in Milton but one knows why – and he’s not willing to share that information.  When he sees Bailey running one afternoon, he’s determined he has to meet her.  He doesn’t know what the attraction is, but he’s not letting it go.  Bailey is still holding strong on her vow to stay away from boys, but she can’t deny her attraction to Ty.  She wants to trust him, but she can’t shake the feeling that he is hiding something from her.  Can Ty convince Bailey that not all guys are like her ex?  Will she give him the chance to prove it?

Stay With Me is a sweet story of love and learning to forgive, but I think it was a little bit much to be considered YA.  I felt like everything kept moving too fast and some major situations just kind of got glossed over like it was no big deal.  I loved the characters and the author did a great job of developing them, but sometimes they spoke and acted waaay too mature to be in high school.  All in all, I enjoyed the story and it is a great debut novel from Abigail Kerber!  I am looking forward to more, especially with that ending…I hate cliffhangers!  ;-)

Book Description:

Book 3 in the HEARTBEAT series

Adam is at a crossroads.

He has Katie on his mind and Jada in his bed.

Now with the ultimate choice before him, he must decide between fantasy and reality.

Katie’s his dream girl, but Jada’s his best friend, his partner. As a paramedic, he’s supposed to save lives, not wreck them. Yet his failure to commit leaves a trail of heartache in his wake.

Things come to a head at his brother’s wedding when a surprise announcement leaves Adam scrambling to pick up the pieces. Sure, women find his shaggy blond hair and aquamarine eyes irresistible. But to him, sex is nothing more than a means of escape … until it turns into a psychological trap.

His mind is telling him one thing, while his heart is beating another. He’s not sure what he wants when it comes to a serious relationship. Sorting out his feelings, he finally comes to a startling realization. He is capable of love.

But what if it’s too late?

Excerpt:

His shaggy hair is falling in his eyes as water drips from the ends. The buttons of his shirt are undone and droplets cling to his bare chest. His lips are parted and his blue eyes radiate a mixture of elation and desire. He knows that he’s trespassing where he doesn’t belong, but he doesn’t feel the need to ask anyone’s permission to enter my bedroom either.

I tilt my head and gaze up at him, my hair tumbling over my shoulder. He advances toward me, looking somewhat guilty, bordering on apologetic. He realizes he shouldn’t be here, but he is. And I don’t want him to leave. I like the danger of having him so close.

He blinks and raindrops fall from his eyelashes before running down his face. And that’s all it takes for the sheer happiness of the moment to light up my face. I rush toward him as he greets my smile with one of his own. Its sincerity warms my heart as he looks at me like he’s just completed the longest journey of his life, filled with relief at finally reaching his destination. He’s come home. He’s where he’s supposed to be. And if I’m being honest with myself, I feel like I’ve been waiting for him all along.

The force pulling me to him is too strong to ignore. I don’t fight it. I give into it. I let it take me over. I stride up to him, reaching up on my toes, my fingers dancing across his neck as I take his lips with mine. Pressing myself into him, the front of my white t-shirt is soaked instantly. But instead of experiencing any kind of chill, I feel like I’m burning up.

The kiss is gentle this time, lasting only a few seconds before he draws me into a hug, laying his sopping head against my shoulder while wrapping his arms around my waist, drawing me as close as he possibly can to his body. He winces when I squeeze him back tightly, causing him to loosen his grip on me and step away. I reach up one hand at a time to examine his face as he tries to look down, refusing to meet my gaze. Finally, he gives me a mournful smile as I persist. Silencing my worries, he runs a hand lightly across my face before bringing me in for another kiss. He’s so careful with me, so tender. He breaks away to smile at me again, a look of wonderment in his eyes, before resuming our kiss.

Slowly releasing my lips, I allow my hands to roam down his chest as I start to tug on his shirt. He complies with my request, but he seems to be in pain as I help remove the sleeves from his arms. I glance up at him in concern, and he whispers, “My ribs. They were broken not too long ago. I don’t think they ever fully healed.”

He hangs his wet shirt on the bedpost as I run my hand gently over his chiseled abs. He bends his head to the side, closing his eyes. He doesn’t open them as I glide my fingers over the scar on his forehead, where undoubtedly he had stitches at one time. My heart contracts as I ponder what happened to him. He submits to my touch, moving his head along the path of my fingertips, yielding to my efforts to examine him. He doesn’t resist, but I can sense he doesn’t want me to linger on his injuries either.

His hair appears darker now that it’s wet, and I can’t help twisting my fingers through the strands at the back of his neck as he rests his forehead against mine. He’s so close to me. All I can see are his eyes. He leans back, pushing my hair away from my face. The way he is looking at me is like he’s taking in every part of me. It’s hard for him to keep his lips off mine as he brushes a featherweight kiss across them. It feels so intense. I have to look down for a minute.

When I’m ready to meet his eyes again, his hands travel up my sides, encouraging me to lift my arms. I do so, and within seconds, his fingers are at the hem of my shirt, pulling it up and over my head in one swift movement. I help him free my long hair from inside the collar, reaching behind me to hold it up, trying not to think about my bare breasts being visible. He drinks in every inch of me, and that smile is back on his face as his hands caress my back. This time, it’s Adam who lifts my hair away, entwining it through his fingers while resting his chin on my shoulder, allowing his free hand to roam the full expanse of my back from shoulder to hip. I slide my arms around his lean, muscular body as he buries his face against my neck. When he stands upright again, he nuzzles my ear as I extend a trail of kisses along his jaw. He sighs in contentment as his stubble bristles against my lips.

Music of the <3

SYNOPSIS:

For Abby Renard, the plan was supposed to be simple—join her brothers’ band on the last leg of their summer tour and decide if she’s finally ready for the limelight by becoming its fourth member. Of course, she never imagined stumbling onto the wrong tour bus at Rock Nation would accidentally land her in the bed of Jake Slater, the notorious womanizing lead singer of Runaway Train. When he mistakes her for one of his groupie’s, Abby quickly lets him know she sure as hell isn’t in his bed on purpose.

Jake Slater never imagined the angel who fell into his bed would resist his charms by promptly kneeing him in the balls. Of course, the fact she seems like a prissy choir girl makes her anything but his type. So he is more than surprised when after betting Abby she wouldn’t last a week on their tour bus, she is more than willing to prove him wrong. But as Jake’s personal life begins to implode around him, he finds an unlikely ally in Abby. He’s never met a woman he can talk to, joke with, or most importantly make music with.

As the week starts comes to a close, neither Abby nor Jake is ready to let go. Can a sweetheart Country songstress and a bad boy of Rock N Roll actually have a future together?

BOOK TRAILER

EXCERPT

I fluffed my pillow for what felt like the millionth time and tried ignoring the sounds coming from Jake’s bunk. Heat flooded my face when the whimpers and groans escalated. Jeez, it sounds like something off a porno! With my brothers, I had a pretty good mind what he was doing, and it infuriated me, especially after what had happened earlier with Billie Jean.

They all swore to me they’d be perfect gentlemen if I stayed on the bus with them! I silently fumed. What kind of sex-fiend maniac is Jake that he needs to do that again after just getting off at the diner? I don’t care if he needs to relieve some stress after the phone call earlier. This is bullshit!

Flopping back down on the mattress, I crossed my arms over my chest before a frustrated grunt escaped my lips.

“No puedes dormir, Angel?” AJ’s deep voice questioned from behind my curtain.

I flipped back the heavy fabric. He reclined on his bunk, flipping through a sports magazine. “No, I can’t sleep with all the racket going on next to me.”

He met my gaze and grinned. “Don’t get the sexy, lacy panties I dream about you wearing in a twist. He isn’t jerking off.”

“That’s not what I was thinking.”

“Yeah right,” he snorted with a wink.

As if on cue, Jake let out a long moan. I shook my head. “Um well, if he’s not doing that, then is he okay?”

“He’s been having a lot of nightmares lately. I try to ignore it—let him save face and not look like a pussy.”

I rolled my eyes. “Did you ever stop to think maybe you should ask him if something is going on with him?”

AJ quirked his brows at me. “If I started getting sappy and shit like that, Jake would ask me when I grew a vagina.”

“Well, I think someone should check on him. I mean, he sounds like he’s in both physical and emotional pain.”

When AJ didn’t move, I heaved an exasperated sigh before hopping out of my bunk. I could not believe after everything I had been through with Jake so far in the last twelve hours that I even had one shred of care left for him. But I had seen something within him—some flicker of decency—that made me worry and care about him, even when I shouldn’t.

I shot AJ a murderous look to which he held up his hands. “Look, mi amor, guys just don’t do the touchy-feely shit, okay? If I woke up Jake right now to cuddle him, he would get super pissed.”

I ignored him and tip-toed over to Jake. With trembling fingers, I opened the heavy curtain to his roost. Jake had the sheet twisted around his waist. A coat of sweat covered his heavily tattooed chest. His brow creased, and his mouth curved up in a grimace. My hand hesitated above his shoulder. Finally, I shook him gently. “Jake, wake up,” I urged softly.

His body jerked before his wild eyes popped open and swept across the top of the bunk.

“Shh, it’s okay,” I murmured.

Jake’s frantic gaze swept over to mine while he opened his mouth and gasped for breath.

I gave him a reassuring smile while rubbing his shoulder. “You were having a nightmare.”

Jake continued wheezing in air. I eased back as he swung his legs out of the bunk and onto the carpet. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he leaned forward and put his head in his hands. “I’m sorry I woke you,” he replied.

With my protective side shooting into overdrive, I scooted closer to him, bringing my hand to his hair. Gently, I ran my fingers through the dark, sweat-stained strands, pushing them out of his eyes. “You didn’t wake me. I was worried about you.”

His head jerked up as surprise flooded his face. “You were?”

I nodded. “You seemed a little down after your phone call with your aunt. Then with the nightmare.” I glanced up at AJ who was curiously watching us. “I know most of the guys aren’t men enough to handle emotions and issues—”

AJ snorted. “Those are your words, not mine.”

“Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I’m here for you. If you need to talk about something or if you just need someone to sit with you until you can go back to sleep, then I’m here.”

With wide eyes and his mouth gaping open, Jake stared at me for a moment like I had grown horns. Realizing I wasn’t getting anywhere with him, I held up my hands. “Or I can just leave you alone and go back to sleep. Either is fine.”

When I turned to leave, Jake grabbed my hand. “Wait,” he instructed in a hoarse voice.

My other interests are watching my boys play football…The round ball version; I am happy to admit to being an addict of social media and I owe a lot to my Facebook and Twitter family in promoting my work; I am also rather partial to a glass or bottle of wine, a nicely chilled Marlborough Sav Blanc being my favorite.

Being a born and raised Essex girl, I will happily admit to be being a big fan of spray tans, Shellac and am regularly, waxed, tinted and sculpted, although I do not own a pair of white stilettos…

Aleatha Romig’s CONVICTED!

Convicted teaser 15

Casey’s Thoughts

Whew! Let me take a breath because DAMN, Aleatha Romig you blew me away…. AGAIN!  I feel very honored to be one of the first bloggers on the Convicted Blog Tour as well as a co-orgainzer.  I have been Team Tony since day one.  In fact, I had a hard time with Truth.  I liked Harry, but there is just something about the season’s of Tony!  (If you read my view of Consequences, you know exactly what I’m talking about!)

Convicted is exactly what it says… you pay for consequences and the truth will set you free.  In doing that, someone has to pay the price.  Now here’s the question all you readers are dying to know… who is Convicted?  It is Tony? Claire? Harry? Catherine? Phil? Eric? Courtney? Brent?…. this list is endless!  And NO, I will not tell you!

I will tell you this… this book played with my emotions.  This book looks into the future and past.  In doing that, I didn’t know how I felt about specific characters.  In fact, I was ready to say a few choice words to Emily.  I know she’s an overprotective sister and all… but come on!

Personally, I felt like Truth was a book about Claire independence.  But I almost can argue that statement, now that I have read Convicted.  In this book, you learn about how Claire’s brain works, and how she survives.  You also see a sides of Tony, Harry, and Phil that will open your eyes to new feeling for each of them.

There is so much that I want to say, but there are no spoilers here!  I will leave you with this… Convicted had me on a roller coaster ride of emotions.  I was mad at Tony, Claire, Emily and everyone about everything going on in the past, but even more about what was going on in the future.  I honestly cried for Claire.  It broke my heart to see her just “physically being there.”   So, instead of Season’s of Tony…. I’ll leave you with the Forecast known as life:

~A Drought: There is nothing, no rain, emotion, just grey everywhere… what the hell is going on?  My exact thought!

~A Hurricane named Claire is brewing in the Pacific:  Claire takes what she’s given and runs with it.  She is one hand up on this one! FINALLY!

~A Summer Breeze:  Things are looking up… maybe everything’s going to be okay?  I just keep waiting for the daily out of the blue thunderstorm to bring me back to reality.

~Hot & Humid: Damn Tony!… enough said!

~A Tornado:  See a tornado can’t be predicted?  There are a trail of events that pieces have to be put together.  If you are in the wrong place at the wrong time…. you might not survive. The question is… who will be caught in it’s path?

After natural disasters or changes in our environment, you must have rebirth or growth to continue.  Convicted is a book about growth.  Taking event that you encounter, embracing them, growing from life’s lessons, and being able to pick up the pieces and move forward.

Hands down Convicted  is 5+Stars.  If you are anxiously awaiting October 8th, 2013 for the release day… you will NOT be disappointed!  I can’t wait to see what else is in store for Aleatha Romig!  Each time I turn the page in one of her works, I’m completely blown away!  I can’t wait to see what’s next!… Now, only if I could really get into the mind of Anthony Rawlings?!

**Caution…these Character interviews contain spoilers, if you have NOT read Consequences and Truth**

A Series of Interviews in response to my 2011 Article about Anthony and Claire Rawlings which appeared in Vanity Fair
By: Anne Robinson

I met with Anthony and Claire Rawlings in their home for a Vanity Fair interview in February of 2011. On that cool February morning, I met with who appeared to be a loving newlywed couple.

Flash forward…now it’s October of 2013, and the world is discovering that all was not as it appeared. My Life As It Didn’t Appear by Meredith Banks, (which was originally scheduled to be released by Parrott Publishing on October 1 but has been delayed again due to legal battles) will eventually hit the market. The release is imminent and the snippet alone has revealed a peek into the depth of misinformation in my original interview!

My goal with these interviews is to attempt to set the record straight.

This time I’m not working with Mr. Rawlings or Ms. Nichols. Why? Because they are both missing!

Ms. Nichols was last seen September 4, and Mr. Rawlingswas reportedly in a plane that made an emergency landing on September 21. He has not been seen or heard from since.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is more involved than a soap opera.  Over the next few days, I will be releasing my “unauthorized” interviews with friends, family, and employees of these two individuals and hopefully settingthe record straight.

Please join me in learning the real story…what were these two individuals hiding from me AND from you in 2011?

Day 1:
CATHERINE/ERIC
Today we planned to speak with Catherine London and Eric Hensley. They are both longtime trusted employees of Anthony Rawlings.  As personal employees, they alsoworked for Claire Nichols, while she and Anthony were married. They would undoubtedly be able to give us insight into the real life of Claire and Anthony.

Unfortunately, our efforts were met with a resounding “no.”  Apparently, all of the people employed by Mr. Rawlings’ estate have signed strict “Do Not Disclose” clauses. The only information we could gather was the confirmation of the last date Mr. Rawlings was on the estate, September 20.

EMILY VANDERSOL
Instead, we proceeded with our interview of Emily Vandersol, sister of Claire Nichols. Mrs. Vandersol was very anxious to speak with us. She has been very busy speaking with each and every news outlet that will listen.
Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Emily Vandersol.

Emily, may I call you that.

Yes, please.

Emily, you are visibly distraught over your sister’s disappearance. Can you please tell us about the last time you saw her.

I saw Claire about a month ago. She came to visit my husband and me in Indiana.

Did she come alone?

She was with a body guard. That was what she said, but my husband and I knew the truth.

Mr. Rawlings didn’t come with her?

No! We aren’t, I mean weren’t exactly on speaking terms with him.

Isn’t it true that someone hurt her in California?

Yes, and that’s why she said she had a body guard. I believe it was because Anthony Rawlings didn’t trust her. The man is incredibly controlling; I’m sure this “body guard” was the only way Claire was allowed to visit us—her own, and only, family!

So, you don’t believe this man was hired for her protection.

I believe he was a spy, reporting every move that Claire made.

Why do you think that?

It was how he treated her when they were married. Well, kind of.

What do you mean, kind of?

When they were married, Claire never would have been allowed to travel to Indiana alone, or with a body guard.

You keep using the world “allow.” Do you believe that Mr. Rawlings truly had that kind of control?

I do!

Emily, have you seen what’s in the book that’s about to be released?

I haven’t seen Meredith Bank’s words, but I know, what’s in the book. I know, because my sister told me. It’s all true.

If it truly contains some of the maltreatment that I’ve heard, why would Claire go back to Anthony Rawlings? Why would she move back in with him?

I don’t know. I can’t explain it. Sometimes I think she isn’t thinking clearly.

Did you ever witness the things Claire told you about?

No. Whenever we were all together they both put on a perfect performance; however, things always seemed odd, like there was more. My husband even tried to question her about it before the wedding. Claire became upset by his questions and asked me to ask him to be nice. For Claire, we were.

Do you believe Mr. Rawlings was involved in your sister’s disappearance?
Without a doubt! I know he was. Before she decided to move back here, she told me specifically that he “took” her, “kidnapped” her, the first time, and she was afraid he may do it again. I promised her that I would have the police knock down his door if she ever disappeared again. I did. As soon as I hung up the phone from Anthony, I called the Iowa City police. They did nothing! Oh, they went to his house and asked a few questions, but you know how it is with people with money—multiply that bya billion! No one would touch him; he owns that whole town, probably the state and country! Now, he’s missing, too. I just know it’s related. I keep praying that she’s safe, but I fear she isn’t. I’m afraid that she finally realized what a mistake it was to go back to him, and he lost it. I have begged for the police to take dogs out to that estate and sniff around. What if my sister is buried out there somewhere? What if we never know?

Mrs. Vandersol ended the interview by asking us to publish the information for the missing person’s hotline. There is also a reward set up by Anthony Rawlings for information leading to Claire’s safe return.  If you have any information please contact the numbers below.

Excerpt:

“I know.  I don’t know what I’m going to do without y’all for a month!”  Georgia exclaims.

“I could care less about exams.  I’m just ready for Study Day!”  Caroline squeals.  Why the hell is she so excited about Study Day?  You study all damn day!  “It’s only the biggest party day of the year at Southern.  Y’all thought Homecoming was epic.  Y’all aint seen nothing yet!”

“Explain.” Tori states.

“Well, undoubtedly on Wednesday at noon the campus goes to quiet hours to study for exams.  No class, practice, or anything.  Pretty much people put off studying until Thursday afternoon, and spend Wednesday partying like it’s 1999 or something!”

We all look at each other, and know that it’s legit because somehow Caroline always is in the know.

Anna speaks up, “So, if Hank’s isn’t open, where does everyone go?”

Caroline gets up and walks over to her wall and points to the number eighty-eight sticker on the wall.  “That’s easy, Whiskey River!”

“What’s that got to do with racing?”  Anna asks.  Georgia, Caroline, Tori and I look at each other like she has got to be kidding.

“Anna, hunny, bless your heart,” I speak compassionately.  “Dale Jr. owns Whiskey River.”

“Awwwwwww.  I don’t know anything about racing.”

“We know,” we all say in unison.
