He unravels blaming himself for what happened with Katie.
His final moments with her echo through his nightmares.
She owns him body and soul.
To dull the pain, Adam invites a string of women into his bed. Fueled by alcohol and desperation, his meaningless hook-ups provide little comfort. When he closes his eyes, it's Katie he sees.
The only one who helps to ease his guilt somewhat is Jada. But as his new ambulance partner, Adam considers her off limits. He doesn't want to get seriously involved with anyone, much less her. Yet he can't stop fantasizing about the feel of her caramel skin against his.
Despite his intentions, Adam's bond with Jada deepens as they respond to a series of emotional calls. Their mutual attraction becomes undeniable. But how can he give his heart to Jada when it still belongs to Katie?
I'm only reading this to see what happens to Adam or if we end up with another messed up ending. I NEED HEA not jacked up reality. That's why I freaking READ books. HEA'S!!
Just like I felt with the first book of the Heartbeat series, Heartbeat (my review of which can be read here), I don't know what to feel about Come What May. With both these books by author Faith Sullivan, I know that no matter how much time I give myself to think and ponder over them, it's just not going to be enough. I love the way Faith's books end but they leave me feeling confused, empty and utterly shocked, in a good way because I'm weird that way. Come What May starts out with Adam starting a new life after losing Katie. He completely changes his life by opting for drinking and casual sex, something I would never have imagined the Adam from Heartbeat go for. He was just too good to go that way. But things change. He is broken, depressed and sad. He keeps seeing Katie everywhere and he can't seem to have a hold on himself. I really don't know if I love or hate Adam in Come What May. There were so many times when I wanted to comfort him, but then some dumb things that he did at some point came up and changed the whole way in which I look at him. Ugh. I don't know. All I can say is that the Adam from Come What May is very different from the Adam we met in Heartbeat . The only common aspect to both is his love for Katie. And the fact that paramedics is still his life. And that's where he meets Jada. Jada was a nice girl who was just as broken as Adam and had a past as heartbreaking and devastating as his. There were times when even she got on my nerves, but the poor girl has seen a lot of trouble and my heart cried out for her. I loved how she remained casual with Adam even though she had really strong feelings for him. She tried to put it all away and I was always with her when she was trying to teach Adam a lesson in a subtle way. She truly helped Adam heal and I only wish she herself can heal soon too because she a nice girl. Somehow, when together, Jada and Adam seemed comfortable and easy going. They are both assigned as partners on the ambulance Adam drives and they make for a great team. The romance between the two is just about brewing when something or the other comes up and cools it off. I couldn't help compare Jada and Katie and I really have no idea which girl I want Adam to end up with in I Am Yours. All I can say is that I am really looking forward to the final book. Author Faith Sullivan's writing is again very smooth and simple. I love the length of her books and how details are given without making it sound very boring. The alternating points of views were essential and made both Jada and Adam's sides of the story understandable and real. Come What May was very emotional and I experienced an assortment of feelings while reading it. Even though I loved the way Heartbeat ended, I still am not sure of my final thoughts on it. After Come What May, however, I've understood Adam better and the book itself was a notch higher than the first book, so the fact that the books are getting better and better gives me immense hope for a nice ending to the stories of each of the characters.
You know those series where you really enjoy the first novel—fall in love with the characters and concept—then the second book shatters all those feelings. That’s what happened with me and the Heartbeat series. I loved Adam in the first novel, Heartbeat. I loved Katie. I loved the psychological twist at the end. But after reading Come What May, all that love was gone, and I don’t think I can continue this series.
My love lost wasn’t because of Jada—I only wished there was a little more character development with her, especially at the beginning. No, my love lost was because of the existing characters, Adam and Katie. I know Adam was supposed to start off broken in this novel, and he should be. There wouldn’t be a story if a character wasn’t broken in some way. But I didn’t like how much his character changed from Adam in Heartbeat. It was like Heartbeat’s Adam was completely dead. And on top of the heart break of losing him, I saw no growth in new Adam’s character as he moved through Come What May. In fact, every step forward seemed to be met with two steps back.
Also, I didn’t like how Katie became the antagonist in Adam’s nightmares, or the abrupt change where Adam first hated Dream Katie, and feared her, to suddenly he loved her. Honestly, with how Heartbeat ended and how in Come What May started like she was nothing but a tragic nightmare, I don’t see how this could happen. I didn’t see how Adam’s hatred for Dream Katie could suddenly turn to love. So how was this possible? Maybe if the nightmares and Dream Katie were more developed, I would’ve understood.
Finally, I personally have a certain tolerance level for too much drama, and Come What May crossed my tolerance maximum half way through the book. Way too much! And the ending, I can understand how others may find it intriguing with the possible love triangle building for the third novel, but for me, it just was way too weird. And even though I lost my Adam—the one from the first novel—I still just want this new Adam to move on.
In all, though I enjoyed Heartbeat and really like the author, I cannot continue this series. Not if I want to hold onto the love I have for Adam and Katie.

Woah! Faith has done it again! Stumping us the reader, flooring us with shocking revelations and more!
Adam is not doing well with the death of Katie. He has many sexual encounters and even drinks and does drugs. (Oh and hears Katie in his head)
However, when he realizes who his new partner will be and learns more about her he opens up to her!
Jada is Adam's new partner and boy does she not take any of his crap! I loved her for that! She is confused, sad, enjoys Adam and has fallen for him.
It was amazing to see the paramedic action they deal with and their partnership growing. I enjoyed them getting to know more about each other and open up to another person who actually listens.
But that being said, their relationship is quite rocky at the end... and the revelations that are announced are shocking.
Faith is truly a brilliant author who stumps us the reader, amazes us and tantalizes us and more!
I look forward to the 3rd book in this series! I'm very interested to see what happens with Adam and Jada!
I had an internal battle with this one.....the dark side won. While the plot keep me yelling at the pages, it was far too dramatic and unstable to be the follow up to the Heartbeat I know and love. I would have preferred the first to be a standalone if I'm forced to believe here that none of it was ever real. Sigh....woe is me.... Full review to come.
Come What May by Faith Sullivan, had a dark, gritty, and intense vibe to it. The story was told through the alternating dual perspectives of Adam, from Heartbeat, and we are introduced to a new character in this sequel, Jada. She is Adam's new ambulance partner. He was pretty upset from the beginning of the story to lose his previous partners, but as he gets to know Jada, they become really close partners, and friends.
Unfortunately, Adam is battling some dark demons after the death of Katie in Heartbeat. He is struggling with horrific nightmares, guilt, and a deep depression that he can't seem to pull himself out of. Even worse is the unhealthy coping mechanisms that he uses to to try to supress the pain he's feeling, such as, alcohol, casual sex, and avoidance of talking about his feelings, and what he's going through.
Jada was such a strong, and independent woman. I loved her character. She was intelligent, hard working, caring, compassionate, and didn't put up with any crap! She was just what Adam needed when he was going through such a dark, and devastating time in his life. She made Adam accountable for his actions, was a good listener, and really cared about him. Jada and Katie were very different characters, in that Katie from Heartbeat, appeared softer, more fragile, and not as strong or independent as Jada. Yet, both leading ladies were alike in the fact that they were both very sensitive, caring, compassionate, and loyal. As far as their appearances went, they were complete opposites. It was interesting comparing both ladies, as Adam felt so strongly for both women, and yet in many ways, they were very different from one another.
I'm learning quickly that Ms. Sullivan is a master when it comes to surprises, and plot twists. I told myself that this time around she would not be able to shock me, the way she did with the ending of Heartbeat. Well, was I ever wrong! The ending of Come What May completely caught me by surprise, and I'm asking myself, "What is going on here?" I'm coming up with different theories, but I want to read the next book, and get my answers now! I love reading stories that make me think, and look back at all the puzzle pieces to try to get the full picture! Yet at the same time, it drives me a little bit crazy!
My Rating:
I give Come What May by Faith Sullivan 3.5 Intriguing, Entertaining, and Mysterious Stars! Ms. Sullivan knows how to write complex characters and intricate plot twists that you will never see coming. She knows how to hook the reader, and pull on your emotions. I have come to care for Adam, and now Jada. I care about their feelings, and hope they make good decisions for their future. These characters have come to life for me, and they will for you too! Once you begin this series, you will be hooked, and will be desperate to see how the puzzle comes together, and hope for a happily ever after, because these characters have been put through the wringer!

"I'm making out with a dead girl in my dreams. I'm screwing women I have no business screwing. I'm pushing away the one person who actually gives a damn about me. It's like the Bermuda Triangle of heartache and I'm sinking fast." (eARC, Loc. 2116)

He opens his eyes and I'm seeing the real Adam, the one he keeps buried inside-the frightened boy who's terrified that he let someone die. The young kid harboring the unjust responsibility of balancing life and death." (eARC, Loc. 2368)
INITIAL THOUGHTS Well I seriously thought "i knew" the character of Adam from Hearbeat but he is represented as being quite different in this book. Some would say he perhaps shows his "true colours" What I thought was a romantic, emotional loving young man in Heartbeat is a womanising, bit of a bad boy in Come What May.
MY REVIEW I received this e-book from the Author Faith Sullivan in exchange for my honest review. I think the cover represents the book well. I'd say the male on the cover fits with the imagery portrayed by Faith Sullivan as the Adam character in her Hearbeat Series. The woman fits the description of Katie too. I think the book looks very "New Adult" and will fit in with that genre well. The other covers so far in this series match the theme too. So we are following the character from Heartbeat of Adam. Adam is still haunted and guilt ridden as he failed to save Katie. Katie died in his arms and now Adam has nightmares about it. He is literally turning into a zombie working on auto pilot and not really "there" anymore. It's okay and he's managing at work as Tommy and Charlie are "watching his back" but things are changing at the ambulance Station. there are to be no more three man crews. so it means Adam needs to get his act together, and quickly as he will have a new partner who is a trainee to watch out for too. Jada is the new trainee. They quickly settle into their partnership as crew mates on the Ambulance, but could their friendly feelings turn into something more? The thing is since Katie died in his arms Adam has become a womaniser who is a love 'em and leave 'em attitude. He doesn't want a commitment or a long term relationship he just want fun and sex. Adam seems to think that acting this way will help him recover from the guilt he feels over not being able to save Katie. So really in comparison to the Adam we met in "Hearbeat", the Adam in "Come What May" is a totally different character. I loved the Adam in Heartbeat but had an increasing dislike of the Adam in "Come What May". Adam seems to be stumbling from once error to another. Jada tries her best to help Adam and he even seems to be opening up to her and then he flirts with her and she's not so sure whether he is serious or not. Jada doesn't want to be a casual fling for anybody, she'd like a relationship with Adam, sure she's attracted to him, but what if there relationship didn't work? How would that effect their working partnership? There's lots of angst and drama in this book. You see that when paramedics lose a patient it stays with them well after the event. Though both Adam and Jada are great paramedics they have a totally different approach. Jada is a more by the book kind of character where as Adam is more of a "fly by the seat of his pants" character. Could a relationship work between the pair? Every time they seem to get to within an inch of a kiss, something happens, a phone rings, his soon to be sister in law (with extra problems attached) or its a call to go into work early etc etc there is always something. I do like how Faith Sullivan describes things, and though the pace of the book is slow in some parts, it picks up in others. There's also a mega cliff hanger twist at the end as there was with "Heartbeat". So did I enjoy the book? Yes I enjoyed it, there's plenty going on, lots of twists and turns. Would I recommend the book? As a chick-lit, lighter New Adult genre read yes. Would I read a Bk#3 in the Series? Yes, I' have to because I want the answer to so many questions that I was left with at the end of "Come What May". Would I read other books by Faith Sullivan? As I intend to read "Unexpected" so the answer is yes!
After reading Faith Sullivan's Heartbeat, the prequel to Come What May, and being completely flabbergasted by its conclusion, I couldn't wait to see what happened next to Adam and Katie. There were so many unanswered questions that I needed answered! Therefore, when Come What May finally ended up in my possession the other day, I jumped right in. Luckily, Come What May completely surpassed my sequel expectations, because not only did it introduce a enjoyable, heartfelt story that stood on its own, but it also took this story to new places with new people I couldn't have possibly imagined nor expected.
Come What May continues a couple of months after Heartbeat ended. Adam is still dealing with the pain of loosing Katie as well as the weirdness that has come into his life because of it. He dreams of her every night, and the dreams always end the same way her life did....with her saying his name. Feeling such a strong connection to a dead girl is something he wasn't prepared for, and because of it, he quickly falls into dangerous patters: drinking, fighting, and one night stands with girls he barley knows. However, when Jada enters his life, everything begins to change. Jada has had her own demons, and she's not about to let Adam fall to his. Will Jada be able to save him before it's too late? Or will something stand in their way? Only time and more pages can tell in this heartfelt and suspenseful read.
One of the aspects I enjoyed most about Heartbeat was the characters and that rang true for this one as well. Jada, the new addition to the series, was probably my favorite. Sassy and full of life, Jada truly managed to make the story even better with her POVs as well as her friendship with Adam. One aspect I admired the most about her, though, was how she didn't let her past get her down. Instead, she managed to kept it bay while also helping others. The way she was with Adam was adorable, and I was continually rooting for them to end up together (even though I still wanted to the Katie angle to work, but I'll talk about that later!). Talking about Adam, he was a LOT different in this book. Gone was the sweet yet somewhat sullen boy that he once was, because in his place was the new Adam: equal parts anger, muscle, and sadness. I couldn't believe some of the choices he made in this, because not only did it made me miss the old Adam, but I also couldn't believe how much he was letting his life fall apart. However, it was all part of the journey, as you'll see if you give this one a try! The side characters in this one were also a ton of fun! I loved seeing more of Charlie and the other EMTs plus Jada's roommates added some laughs as well.
The story line in Come What May managed to always have me on the edge of my seat. I loved seeing the alternative to what happened in Heartbeat. Sometimes it was just insane to see just how one little thing could change everything, and that rang true in not just Katie's death but in other instances as well. The aspect I enjoyed most about this book, though, was seeing Jada and Adam's relationship bloom. It kept the plot moving at a fun speed. Plus they were just adorable together. However, at the same time, I felt like I was betraying Katie by liking Adam and Jada together so much.
Faith's writing was also great in this! She did a great job of switching between Adam and Jada's POVs. And the ending in this one? Absolutely, pure evilness! But I'm starting to expect that from Faith.
In all, Come What May was a great continuation to the story and world Faith introduced in Heartbeat. I simply can't wait to read book #3!
OMG, Faith!!! What are you trying to do to me?!?!?! I am seriously freaking out right now! My hands are shaking, I've been pacing, and cursing...I don't even know what to do with myself! I waited and waited to read this book, even though I've had it forever, because I was terrified to find out that Adam was moving on from Katie. But now I've fallen in love with Jada too! You have seriously got my mind running in a thousand different directions! I guess I'm just going to have to read the last book, because I HAVE to know what the heck is going on!!!
UPDATE (Full review from my blog)
Something I love about Faith Sullivan? She ALWAYS gets me emotionally involved in the lives of her characters. But this can also be VERY frustrating, as is the case with the characters in the Heartbeat series! Seriously, my emotions are ALL OVER the map after finishing this book!
Adam is a mess, and you can hardly blame him. He has recurring nightmares of the day he lost Katie, the day she died in his arms...a complete stranger who seemed to know exactly who he was, saying his name with her final breaths. That's enough to mess anyone up. But he tries to use alcohol and sex to get her off his mind...which really doesn't do anything for him except screw all sorts of things up.
Jada is a bit of a mess too, but she tends to do a better job of managing her struggles than Adam does. She has gone through some tough stuff in her life. Of course, after spending tons of time with him, and going through some pretty emotional stuff with him, Jada is developing feelings for Adam that she sometimes wishes would go away. She cares about him, but they have to work together, and neither one of them wants to screw that up. And to complicate things, Adam is still hung up on Katie, who is dead.
I'll be honest with you...I have had this book for over 3 months, just waiting to be read. But I was terrified to read it! I loved Adam and Katie in Heartbeat, and I didn't want their story to end. When I read the blurb, and saw there was a new woman in his life, a part of me didn't want to know what was going to happen next. But now that I've finally read it, all I can say is this: Faith Sullivan is a master manipulator! LOL Here I thought I was going to be all upset that Jada came into the story, and instead, I have come to love her, and my heart is torn! Who should Adam be with? HOW SHOULD I KNOW?! I love all three of these main characters, and I just want them ALL to be happy!
I thought I would get some answers by reading the next story, Come What May. I was wrong. I was left with another “What just happened” kind of moment. Now that doesn’t mean it was a bad thing. It definitely has me salivating for book 3. This just gets more and more bizarre. It’s almost like I’m reading a contemporary romance story with a paranormal sprinkling. I just can’t figure it out and I like it.
In Come what May we find Adam trying to come to terms with his brief encounter of Katie. She haunts his dreams and mind. He seems like a totally different person in this book. He is a man whore for most of the beginning until he gets a new partner, Jada. Adam knows he isn’t ready to explore anything with Jada but he is attracted to her. He opens up about Katie, hoping Jada will confirm that he is not crazy. Jada listens to Adam and confirms that she doesn’t think he’s crazy. She even tells him that there must be a reason for his dreams and thoughts of Katie. She tells him to be open to the dreams and to find out what Katie wants. Jada is calm, cool, and collected on the outside. She’s been hurt before and keeps her feelings to herself. She wants more with Adam but she knows his heart belongs to someone else. Eventually there is a shift in their relationship from work partners to possibly a deeper relationship. However, fate once again steps in and rips the rug out from underneath their feet.
I really liked Jada. I wanted for Adam to be with Jada. Jada was a reality whereas Katie was a memory. I thought the Adam in Come what May was such a turnaround from the Adam in Heartbeat. It was like they were two different people. This Adam was scarred emotionally to the point that he did one night stands, jeopardized his career, and was self-absorbed. That was until he started opening up to Jada and I saw a glimpse of what he was before. I really felt for Jada at the end. She tried so hard to protect her heart but to no avail. It belonged to Adam. Now we wait and see what he does with it.
Heartbeat and Come what May have been two of the most interesting books I’ve ever read. I want to be irritated that I am left with my own thoughts when the book ends, but it’s actually made me connect with the story more. I’m totally invested in what happens next. Hopefully, with book 3 I get all the answers that I’m looking for. Well done, Faith Sullivan, well done. **I received a copy of the book for an honest review
Whew! After the craziness that was the ending to the first book, Heartbeat, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Faith had created a sequel! I'm going to try and keep this review as spoiler free as I possibly can.
Adam is a mess over the shocking final events in Heartbeat. He is a very different person than the one we originally met. No longer is he the sweet, innocent guy he once was, but he has turned to losing himself in alcohol and sex to numb the pain of what happened. He is tormented and haunted by nightmares and even his good friends can't seem to pull him out of his despair. He gets a new ambulance partner, Jada, who is not going to put up with Adam's hangups. She is there to do her job and she wants to succeed and do it well. She is not going to let this guy (no matter how attractive she finds him) ruin her opportunity at finally being able to actively take part in the job.
I have to admit, I didn't want to like Jada. I was rather attached to Katie, but Jada is such a great character. She is tough and I liked that. She may have anxiety issues, but she is able to remain calm and collected even in rough situations. She has also known loss, so she proves to be a good listener and friend to Adam- even when he didn't deserve it.
Jada and Adam have a complicated relationship. Jada finds herself falling for Adam, yet Adam knows there will never be anyone who makes him feel like Katie did. Which is crazy for him to think based on how well he really knew Katie. Adam is definitely attracted to Jada and has to convince himself that getting involved with her is not a good idea because for one- they work together, and two- he knows he can't be that guy for her, due to his lingering feelings for Katie. Their relationship together makes sense though- they have spent time getting to know one another and forming a friendship. Jada has seen the worst parts of Adam and yet still wants to be there for him and take care of him.
Once again, Faith doesn't hold back with the plot twists. We get a pretty big one towards the end and another HUGE one for the ending. I am quite nervous about the final book in the series because I know what I want to happen and I honestly don't know how Faith will finish out Adam's story. Personally, I am hoping Adam follows his heart because that boy could use a bit of happiness after all that he's lost.
*Received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.*
Ever since Katie, the young woman he'd met at the scene of accident, died in his arms, Adam's life has never been the same. He vividly recalls the moment whenever he has a chance to. Katie's face invades his dreams, and haunts his every breath. Deep inside, he wants to believe that he's just feeling guilty over the fact that she died on his watch. Yet he knows better. Something else is going on. He just can't figure out what that is yet.
Determined to try and pick up the pieces of his life, Adam immerses himself in his work. Granted, it does nothing to lessen the pain he feels inside, but he'll do anything to forget about Katie's death by whatever means necessary. Saddled with a new partner on the job, he does his best to ignore Jada at every turn. Everything about her reminds him of Katie, something he wishes fervently wasn't the case. Though he knows he should treat her with the respect she deserves. He can't. He's still hurting over the one person he never thought he'd feel something for.
Despite his refusal to allow Jada into the confines of his heart, his mind and body have other ideas. She slowly starts to mean something to him, much to his chagrin. He's not exactly sure as to how he should feel about the situation. She's beautiful and brazen, and she stirs his heart in ways he's never imagined. So much so, that at times he's able to forget about the fact that Katie's memory haunts him. If he's to succeed in having something worthwhile with her, he'll need to confront the demons that insist on wreaking havoc on his life. To do that, he'll need to be honest with himself about what truly happened to Katie. Only then can he find the peace within himself to give things with Jada the chance they so deserve.
Another heart-wrenching story, Come What May takes up where Heartbeat left off. We find ourselves smack-dab in the middle of Adam's hectic life. He's a man hell-bent on forgetting about the past. A man haunted by the memory of a girl who's come to mean a lot to him in so short a time. Faith has done a great job in filling us in with what's happened to Adam since the end of book one. She's given us a look at a man who's doing his best to live his life as each day comes. A bittersweet story, Come What May, is one of those stories that will pull you in, and keep your attention glued to every page. You'll definitely want to read it time and again.
********ARC received in exchange for an honest review********
After the crazy ending of the first book in the series there was no way I was ever going to be able to NOT read Come What May. I started it straight away desperate to find answers to the questions I had after finishing Heartbeat, and although I didn't find all of the answers, I really enjoyed this book!
To start with I struggled to get in to the book. I was still reeling from the events of book one and as I had grown to really like Katie as a character, I found it hard to accept the fact that she wasn't a part of this book and there was now someone new, because I wanted Adam to be with Katie!!!!! But as I started reading - and although she is still mentioned - I kind of forgot about Katie and found myself really liking Jada. She was really feisty and confident and she wouldn't put up with any rubbish from Adam. She was black and dealt with racism which was highlighted in the book, and I loved that it was. It's something that is unfortunately a big problem in our world today and no-one should have to deal with it.
Adam was like a whole different character to me in this book. He was an asshole to be completely honest and for most of the book I didn't really like him. I understand the events of book one have messed with his head but still . . . He started drinking, smoking weed, having casual sex and he was pretty damn rude! He made some stupid decisions and only thought about himself. He really needed someone to shake some sense in to him so he could realise he was being such a douchebag!
I loved watching Adam and Jada's relationship. They really didn't get on well to start with but they started to see the attraction and want more from each other. As it was nearing the end I was really rooting for Jada and though I could tell that the ending still wasn't going to be a HEA, I once again was not expecting the crazy twist!! Faith has got them down to a fine art now and I am so desperate to find out more and FINALLY get the answers to my questions. I am so excited for the final part of the story, I Am Yours, out in October though I'm not sure I can wait that long. I wonder how Faith feels about bribery . . .
Come What May is a wonderful second book in the series!! Once again I was thrown into the life of a paramedic, actually two paramedics this time, Adam who we met in book 1 and Jada, who is Adam’s new partner. I was immersed into this fantastic world where both characters need to overcome events in the pasts to move on successfully. It was intense, frustrating at times and overall an entertaining read!
I was expecting Adam to be the same nice guy that he was in Heartbeat, but he isn’t!! The turn of events in the end of the first book changed him completely. He has nightmares about the girl that he couldn’t save. His mind is not 100% on the job, which you don’t want to happen as a paramedic. He uses women to satisfy himself before tossing them aside and drinks a lot to become numb because the nightmares overtake his sleep. He is the total opposite to what he was in the first book.
I liked Jada; she is smart and straight to the point. Once she meets Adam she is not afraid to call him out on the crap that he spins. She is even able to get him to open up a little and that is why they have such a good working relationship. But spending so much time together does put a sexual strain on them as well. They are able to speak about most things, but when it comes to their attraction they avoid it at all costs!! Most of the time I was hoping they would hurry up and get it on just so they would get past the hurdle!
As always, Faith throws in twists throughout the story and a massive one at the end of the book that left me with my jaw hitting the floor!! I found the pace in this book was better than the first book and both POV’s were well done. The events were more evenly spread out and I found myself absorbed into the plot. I like the paramedic aspect of this book, and there are a number of intense moments on the job, as well as off. The characters are believable and have their own secrets that have damaged them in some way. They appear to be a well suited couple, but find it hard to take that final step. I am excited to see which way things will go now in I Am Yours, after that unexpected ending!!
I received a copy of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review.
Come What May is book 2 in Faith Sullivan's Heartbeat series and picks up after the plot twister that ended Heartbeat.
Adam is on a downward spiral and reeling from what went down with Katie and is making very destructive decisions. He's trying to cope with things by drinking and sleeping with lots of women but he can't shake the nightmares. With a shift at the ambulance company, he finds himself paired up with a new partner, Jada. Jada is the complete opposite from Katie but he is enthralled by her.. Could it be because she is the opposite of Katie or is it because of their closeness and dependence on each other at work that they have shared things with each other about their pasts that brings them close to together. Both of them know that a relationship with each other would be disastrous on many levels, but neither of them can stop thinking about the possibility of one.
Their feelings come to a halt when Jada accompanies Adam as his date to his brother's wedding where we meet the bride's cousin and maid of honor, who bears a striking resemblence to Katie and even shares her name. If Adam thought he was confused before about Jada, that was nothing compared to now. Which way will he go in Book #3, I Am Yours.
As with Heartbeat, I'm a fan of Adam even though he has been making such bad choices. My heart breaks for him everytime he has a nightmare that involves Katie and I so wish he could move past it. Jada is strong in her own way, despite all the things she's had to overcome in her life, but I just never felt a strong connection with her like I had with Katie. Still she doesn't deserve to be in the position she is with Adam, wanting him but realizing that she's in competition for Adam's heart with someone who doesn't have a chance of winning, only to find out that there is a strong chance she is going to lose out!!!
I cannot wait to continue on with Adam (and Jada's and Katie's) journey to see how things pan out for all of them
My Review: I really enjoyed the first book in this series with its not so happy ending, and the second installment was just as good. It kept attention and was another great journey of healing for Adam. Well, that ad really finding himself.
Adam changes quite a lot in this book. Dealing with Katie's Death and all that came with it, even if he didn't know why, changed him. Jada. I really enjoyed her all around as a character. With such a troubled past, just like Ada, she was still strong and wanted to find love. But yet with that she was still so very broken. She reminded me of Katie quite a lot. When Jada and Adam began their journey I really liked her with him. Even fi they were hot and cold I still felt something with them and am crossing my fingers for what I think is going to happen next.
This book leaves you wanting just as the first, not the writing or even the story, More. It leaves you wanting More. The book flows very well and keeps your attention while reading. Faith is a fantastic writer and you immerse in the characters while you read. The back and forth really gives you a spectrum view on the storyline. Its my favorite part about these books aside from the story itself. The flow is fantastic.
Loved it twice as much as the first. I feel as though we are finally breaking through with getting to really know the characters and I look forward to what comes next.
After devouring Heartbeat, and that absolutely devastating and shocking ending, I wasn't sure what to expect from Come What May. The simple fact that there is another woman mentioned in the summary made me mad. I wanted more of Adam and Katie, not Adam and someone else.
After a few chapters, I grudgingly accepted that Katie wasn't coming back and accepted the loss, as Adam does. I thought I knew Adam after Heartbeat. Turns out he wasn't nearly the guy I thought he was. He makes a lot of bad decisions in Come What Me, and it made me lose respect for him at times. But, he grew on me, and I completely understood why he acted the way he did; I just didn't love him for it.
I like the fact that Adam and Jada are paramedics and that there was more of an emphasis on their work in Come What May. I thought that part of the story was well-developed and I enjoyed the medical aspect of the book.
Despite myself I grew to really like Jada. She is strong, level-headed, and very likable. I found myself rooting for Jada and Adam to get together. The chemistry between them was undeniable and I couldn't believe Sullivan evokes so much passion between the two characters without them ever kissing.
I finished this book just as torn up as i was after finishing Heartbeat. Sullivan delivers another knockout ending, and I'm still recovering from the aftershocks, hours later. In fact, I had to write my review to get my thoughts together, in the hopes of clearing my head (and heart) from the emotional turmoil! I actually wanted to scream out loud in frustration, emotion and shock when i finished the last page. All I can say is October can't come fast enough for me to find out how it all ends!!
So I definitely remember the first book and how at the end I was like huh because it completely flipped the script on us. Well this book continues on from that moment. But this is all about Adam as you know what happened in the end of the last book, if you didn't read it go check it out.
So we meet Adam and he's still pretty beat up about what happened to Katie even though in his mind he didn't even know her, not technically anyway. But there was a definite connection that was there. But this Adam, he's not as loving as he was in the first book this is the real him, and he's just a player trying to get his mind off someone who for some strong reason he feels he loves but doesn't particularly know why. Any who back to the story. Adam is a paramedic and they changed his rotation and the amount of people per ambulance so that means he has a new partner. Jada. Can she calm down the player that he is?
Throughout the book while they get to know each other I definitely feel the pull towards one another and the little flirtations they have going on. It's sweet and real. They definitely have feelings for one another but something keeps holding them back from getting together. If it's not one thing it's another but still they continue to be partners because it's their job and at times they get closer to that almost moment without crossing over.
But even if this is all happening with his partner still Adam cannot get Katie out of his head, and the ending of the book. Yeah you've guessed it another shocker and now I'm really lost haha. It's great though because now it really leaves you wondering what is real and what isn't and is there such a thing as fate and all that good stuff. I'm curious to see what happens next. Is it going to be Jada or Katie.
There is nothing more haunting than nightmares that won't go away. You don't always know why you are having them, and your sub conscious knows all of your fears to feed off of. Adam keeps seeing Katie, the girl who seems to hauntingly know him, yet this stranger's death stains his hands. Adam is having a hard time dealing with the loss of Katie and forgets who he is. Jada is his new partner on the job though. A spitfire with shadows in her own past. These two have a very rocky road together as they try to feel each other out for trust. Their attraction for each other confuses each other, but there are lives on the line.
After the cliff hanger in 'Heartbeat' the readers are left wondering where the second book will go. Seeing differences between Adam of the first book, and the second. Jada is a girl you can relate to. 'Is Adam flirting with me, or am I just fun to flirt with? Should I allow myself to trust another person?' Who hasn't wonder those things? Girls will relate to Jada who is a strong young woman yet who is compassionate. Adam is a lost soul that the readers will want to give him a kick in the butt then a hug. To top it off, Faith Sullivan has the readers prepared for one ending only to pull the rug from under their feet, and wondering why don't they have the third on hand.
So now I'm confused because is Katie not real? I thought she was real? I find myself re-reading chapters and I'm so stinking confused. These moments of confusion make me think maybe I can't read literature for a living and scrutinize it if I can't even figure out if a character was real or not. This was my issue with Wuthering Heights, once I realized there was two of some people it was like, game over, I'm not that smart.
But maybe Katie is real and this is like a really bizarre form of post traumatic stress? Jada enters the picture and she's kind of awesome. Adam is being a giant douchebag in this book which is the exact opposite of book one where he was just this little sensitive cuddle bug of love. When he says he's over it, he means it. But dammit if Jada isn't falling for him anyways, albeit reluctantly. Then I get to the point where I don't care if Katie is real or not, Jada is the real deal and Adam needs this in his life. Clearly.
BUT THEN.
He finds out that he may or may not be a baby daddy, his brother is unexpectedly getting married, and then oh yes- Adam decides to get high and drive an ambulance. You know, just another Tuesday.
I'm just getting over this and then? BOMBSHELL ENDING.
Book 1 ended and my heart broke for Adam! He had a once in a lifetime connection with a girl who died with his name on her lips. Come What May begins with Adam's nightmares, he is trying to find Katie only to wake up knowing she is gone. He tries to drink her away, but fails. He tries to replace her with other women, and that really fails. He is hurting everyone close to him. It doesn't take me long to start not liking Adam very much. I know he is hurting, but he is hurting those around him more.
Jada, I love! She is Adam's new partner. She is strong and stands up for Adam, even to himself. She is as by the book straight as Adam is careless and flippant. Jada is the best friend every girl wants. But is she strong enough to fight Adams demons when he isn't? How can a real woman compete with a ghost for love?
There is so much I want to say, but can't without giving away important parts of this book! I was sooo thankful that Book 3 is out and I started it immediately, around 2am.
I really liked book one, I still think about the jaw-dropping ending months later. I liked Adam and Katie in the first book and rooted for them. But was that really Adam? Did that relationship even exist?
The Adam in this book I do not like at all. He's basically a douchebag and he should definitely be fired from his paramedic job. Jada seemed ok, but I have no idea why she was so attracted to Adam, he treated her like crap!
The subplot with Adam's brother and fiancee was just gross. I liked Adam even less after that.
There is another jaw-dropper at the end, and I am more confused than ever!
I will read book 3 just to find out how it all ends, but I am not sure book 1 Adam even exists (or ever existed?) anymore.
I would definitely recommend the first book, not sure if I can recommend this one.
Have I mentioned how much I love Sullivan's work? Not enough, that's for sure! Her books are amazing and just so much fun to read! And the endings, holy frick, they always get me :) Come What May was no exception--I was completely drawn into this story and couldn't put it down. Adam is going through all kinds of hell and Jada just captured my heart. I will also never sit in a hair salon chair without a particular scene going through my head! (Hawt!!) I liked getting to see more of their on-the-job drama in this book, and was totally drawn into the world of paramedics. After a horribly car accident I was in a few years ago, I have nothing but respect for those who are able to do this job!
Only trouble with this book? Waiting for the third one! Eeep! What an ending!
I'm kind of at a loss for words regarding this book/series. Question. How can a man become so obsessed and fall in love with a woman he just met, a woman who he had never met before, but now he's tormented by nightmares of her and his only memory of her is looking into her eyes while she takes her last breath. Adam, who is already running from memories of the past, is now tormented.
Reading this book/series, is like watching a train wreck and I'm unable to look away from, what I know in book 3, will be more torment, heartbreak and emotional carnage.
Loved this book. Adam is seriously bouncing between being a hot mess and being just plain hot. I was against Jada, seeing her a competition for Katie. Not that I dont like her, I need to know where the story is going. It ended with a decision that I dont know if I can make, not even considering what Adam could make. So many shockers in this book. What a way to grab your attention and leave you begging for more.
I hesitated getting into this book because of the ending in the first book, and I wasn't sure if my heart could take any more. Well, of course it could! Plus, how could I go on not knowing what happens to Adam?
I started this book before bed thinking I'd just read until I became sleepy. I should've known better that I couldn't do that - I kept reading until the end, and now I can't wait for book #3!
once again, i enjoyed the author's writing style. i don't have much to say except maybe for.. uhm. i don't really like Jada. XD i don't know why! i just don't like her. i may even be rooting for Katie. pretty sure i have a clue about the ending now but meh. thumbs up for the author though. not bad, considering i don't like stories like these. even i was surprised that i went on to reading the sequel. :)
I usually can read a book in one night if it has my full attention... This book DID NOT, until the end, but that was it. Took me a couple days to read it, just didn't keep me interested. I will read 3 cause can't NOT read it. Just hope it finally ends along with finally getting to point.
