~Poppy~ A Review

Poppy Taylor is a successful hair, makeup, and clothing stylist with a client list packed full of elite musicians, actors, and celebrities. After months of touring with the bands, The Daughters of Darkness and the platinum selling rock group, From Yesterday, one final night changes everything. Will love evade her, as always, or will she find it in the least likely of places, in the arms of a rebellious rocker she never expected?

Riley Huntington is the bass guitar player for the rock band, From Yesterday. His bad boy exterior isn’t exactly the lifestyle he lives though. With his longtime relationship on the rocks, Riley finds himself alone and full of new feelings for a girl he never saw coming. When life gives him a chance to start fresh, will he take it?

When two unlikely people are thrown together during one night of passion, will sparks ignite a long-lasting fire, or will the temporary flame burn out before it ever has a chance to catch?

Chelly’s Thoughts

So we met Poppy earlier in the Behind the Words series and if you’re like me, you’ve been waiting on her story. She is a fiery, independent, and flat-out gorgeous 5’11” hair and makeup artist that is completely passionate about everything she does. Up until now, she has been fine being on her own, working for herself, and not having to worry about anybody else. That is until Riley happened. She’s always had a crush on him but she never thought anything would ever come of it, especially since he’s been with Alexis for years.

Riley Huntington is the definition of masculine and sexy with his faux hawk, electric blue eyes, and broad stature. His on again/off again relationship with Alexis has been going on for years and he’s getting tired of it. He loves her, but he’s beginning to see that what they have now is not love, it’s not happiness, and his life could be so much more without her. Especially if that “more” includes Poppy Taylor.

Poppy doesn’t date, she scratches the occasional itch every now and then with a guy, but never anything serious. Could that be what’s missing in her life? The way she feels when she’s around Riley is unlike anything she’s ever felt before, and although she would love to open herself up to him, she can’t put herself at risk like that. He’ll never leave Alexis, everyone knows that, and it’ll inevitably end in heartbreak for Poppy. She decides to focus all of her attention on her career and go back to the way things used to be, but everything is so empty without him. Can Riley truly get away (and get over) Alexis after their long history together? Better yet, can Riley convince Poppy that he is done with Alexis once and for all and he won’t hurt her?

I absolutely love this series, and Poppy just makes it even better. Her story is relatable, in that none of us really want to risk opening ourselves up if there is a chance of it going south, but it also gives hope. You don’t necessarily have to read the other books in the series in order to enjoy this one, but if you do plan on reading them, do so first or you’ll get a major spoiler in Poppy. But you should read them anyway because they’re all awesome! I love this author!

Everything

on the guest floor was rattling from the bass of the music blaring throughout

the rooms. I was sure that I had drunk close to my weight in tequila alone, not

to mention the large number of whiskey shots I had thrown back, but I was still

standing and I was feeling good; no, better than good: I was feeling fan-fucking-tastic as I moved my body

along with the beat of the rap song that was playing.  I threw my hands in the air above my head

before bringing them back down, trailing across my body as they went. Sweat was

beading across my collarbone as a few drops trailed their way down the valley

between my breasts. The melody was enchanting me, making me move provocatively

with every beat and I loved it.
Grinding

my hips from side-to-side, I felt a large body step up to my swaying backside.

Most guys were my height or only slightly taller, but whomever was behind me

was taller than the average Joe. I continued to rock my hips back and forth as

I spun around to face my dancing partner and smiled widely when I took in

Riley’s large frame behind me. He looked as sexy as ever: black jeans hanging

loosely on his hips with a plain forest-green shirt stretched tightly across

his broad chest. He gripped my hips as I snaked my arms around his neck. When

we had first arrived at the party he had disappeared. I had assumed it was just

to get ready for the party but when he never returned I had quickly turned to

liquor to dull the sting of disappointment I’d felt.
I

looked up at him through my lashes as I rubbed my body along his to the beat of

the song. Riley’s hands were still gripping my hips as he rolled his large self

along with my rhythm. My liquor-induced bravery was taking control, and I had

to struggle to try and tame it. Riley’s hands pulled me gently until I was

completely flush against him and I felt him

straining against the zipper of his pants. I drew in a long heavy breath as he

moved his hands around my waist and splayed one of them across my ass while

resting the other on my back underneath my shirt. His skin was warm against

mine. I closed my eyes and took in the feel of his hand moving gently up and

down my spine as we continued to sway against one another, and I felt his

breath tickle the side of my neck.
“Your

dancing is as passionate as sin,” his words crawled slowly across my neck

causing the skin to rise with goose bumps. I shivered and leaned forward to

reply when I heard Jayde yelling for me to do a body shot from across the room.

“Come

on, Poppy!!!!!! Body shots!!!” her slurring voice called out before the next

song started up and Riley took a couple steps back.
I

watched his electric-blue eyes darken just a little as I called back to Jayde

and made my way through the crowd to the long bar that separated the kitchen

from the living room. I stumbled a little as I tried to maintain my balance in

the shoes I was wearing, but surprisingly I wasn’t falling all over the place

from the amount of alcohol I had consumed.
“Hop

on up on the bar, it’s your turn!” Jayde spun around and pointed her index

finger at my chest. She was so care-free and unbelievably funny when she was

sober, but when she was drinking those same attributes about her seemed to grow

even more. Jayde was a knockout! I envied her different colored eyes: one green

and one blue. It was hard not to look back and forth between them whenever I

spoke with her.
“Are

you crazy?” I placed my hands on my hips and laughed. “I’m almost as long as

the bar, Jayde, and all of those alcohol bottles at the end will be in jeopardy

if I jump up there,” I laughed again as I twirled my hand around in the air

when I felt big hands latch around my waist.
“Up

you go,” Riley’s baritone voice was at my ear, sending chills across my skin. I

gasped from the unexpected contact as my bottom was placed against the cool

wood of the bar.
“Keep

your legs bent and you won’t knock anything off,” Cash suggested as he grabbed

the bottle of tequila, the salt shaker, and a few lime slices. “Who’s up

first?!” He held them up in the air.
“Me!”

Jayde snatched the items from Cash’s hands. His eyes seemed to darken when she

said it. I wasn’t sure if it was due to the fact that she was going to be

taking a shot off of my body or the fact that he was head-over-heels in love

with her and wouldn’t admit it.
“Where

you taking it from?” I asked as I laid my body across the wood bar.
“Navel

I suppose. It’ll hold the tequila the best,” Jayde shrugged as she plucked the

top from the bottle. I grabbed the hem of my belly shirt and pulled it off.

Apparently they weren’t expecting that because Cash let out a cat call that had

me blushing and Jayde cracking up. Most girls would have been ready to scratch

my eyes out if their man whistled at me like Cash had, but not Jayde. It was

just another reason why I loved having her as a friend.
I

was wearing a black lace bra that had studs running across some of the lace on

the front of the cups. It was a pretty bra, one of my favs…and apparently a new

focal point for Riley’s eyes. When he realized I was watching him staring at

the rise and fall of my chest, a wicked grin spread across his face. Yes, I had

a good-sized chest. No, I wasn’t born that way. I was the girl that was overly

tall but lacking in the boob department. Did I go overboard and get gigantic

tits when I got implants? Nope. I went with a full C-cup and you couldn’t

really tell that they were implants at all unless I had on a massive push-up

bra or you felt them.
Jayde

poured the cool tequila into my navel and I felt my stomach contract from the

feel of it. I took a lime slice and placed it in my mouth as she trailed a line

of salt up my stomach and between my breasts. “Here goes nothing!” She called

out just before she dropped her mouth to my body, licking the salt from between

my breast to my navel before she sucked the tequila from my navel swiftly. Her

lips were on mine as she sucked the tart juice from the slice of lime resting

between my lips. Jayde pulled the lime from my mouth and I sat up enough to

brace myself with my elbows against the bar. We definitely had a crowd of

observers around us then.
I

looked over at Riley and felt my heart pick up the pace from its normal steady

beat. His electric-blue eyes looked like tiny lightning bolts were going off

throughout them. I had never seen him look so

intense. It was like something inside of him was ignited and I was hoping I

would find out just what that something was.
“My

turn!” Cash stepped up but was quickly pushed back by Riley.
“I

don’t think so, lover boy.” Cash’s face fell. “She’s all mine.”
Those

three words bounced around inside my head.
She’s all mine.
I

knew he meant he was up next for the body shot, but the thought that it could

be something more was knocking loud and clear in my mind. I laid back against

the bar and felt the chill of tequila fill my navel again as I slid a new slice

of lime into my mouth. The grainy feel of the salt was back in the exact same

spot as before. I took a deep breath to try and steady my erratic breathing and

closed my eyes. There was no way I could watch Riley lick his way down my body,

suck tequila from my navel, and drop his lips to mine. The thought of it was

erotic enough, but watching him while he did it…that wasn’t anything I could

handle.
His

warm breath tickled the skin across my collar bone just before I felt his

tongue make its way between my breasts, skipping the area where my bra came

around, and continued down to my navel. My body was screaming for more as he

sucked the tequila up into his mouth. The loss of his tongue and lips on my

skin was devastating, but it quickly subsided as our lips connected, causing an

unexpected moan to escape from the back of my throat. Riley squeezed the lime

juice from the slice between my lips and discarded it onto the counter before

bringing his mouth back to mine. The tart juice of the lime lingered between us

as his tongue danced around mine, adding a hint of salt into the mix. The kiss

seemed to go on forever, but forever wasn’t long enough when Jayde’s voice

broke the spell.
“Whoa

there, Riley! Give the girl some room to breathe,” she drunkenly laughed and

Riley pulled his lips from me as fast as if I had burned him.
He

didn’t say another word before he walked off into the crowd of people dancing

and grabbed hold of some brunette that I didn’t know. I quickly looked away as

I slid down from the bar and put my shirt back on, hoping that the heat of

embarrassment that I felt in my cheeks wasn’t obvious to everyone else.
“Where

ya goin’?” Jayde asked as she filled a Solo cup and extended her arm to me.
“I need some

air,” I fanned myself with my hand and took the Bourbon-filled cup from her. I

needed to cut myself off, but seeing Riley all over some girl not even five seconds

after his tongue was down my throat left a bad taste in my mouth.

**PRESS RELEASE** #ItCameFromNashville

“It Came From Nashville” TV SERIES

PRESS RELEASE

Movie & Music Network To Debut “It Came From Nashville”

“It Came From Nashville, “ the new TV series created by singer-songwriter Tonya Watts, is set to debut on The Movie & Music Network.

Based on Watts’ successful ‘Songwriters In The Round’ monthly gatherings at West Hollywood’s famed Genghis Cohen club, the series showcases prominent Nashville songwriters who have come west to Los Angeles to avoid the stifling creative atmosphere of their hometown. Songwriters not only perform their work, but also discuss their creation process in a supportive, roundtable atmosphere.

“I started this to honor the creators of song, whether they’re writer-performers or songwriters who write for other performers,” says the photogenic Watts, who is part of a group of like-minded Southerners now residing in Los Angeles, including Levi Kreis, Austin Hanks, Travis Howard and others.

She also appears in the upcoming indie feature “Finding Harmony” with Billy Zane. She and her guitar player John Schreffler Jr. also recently returned from an appearance at Norway’s Ose Country Music Festival, and, if that weren’t enough, she has launched a hemp-based skincare line called Dazey Hemp. Still, she may be most excited about her television debut.

“This really takes a traditional music show and goes one step further,” says Movie & Music CEO Martin W. Greenwald. “We’re very pleased to welcome Tonya and the show to our growing lineup of original content.”

The Los Angeles-based internet content provider is co-producing “It Came From Nashville” with Watts.

EXCERPTS:

Behind Her Eyes by A.L. Jackson

Now I could feel him, his eyes all over me, caressing me slowly, up and down.  I let all my insecurities drift away as I swayed in time to the music, in sync with the throb of the crowd and the intermittent lights that glowed against my lids.

A charged moment passed, before strong hands found my hips and gripped them from behind. For a beat, I stiffened, before I again gave in to this sublime release. And again, he felt good. Right. All this intense energy that ricocheted between us wrapped me up in a frenzy of nerves, alight and alive. The smell of him took me whole, all soap and man and sex.

Oh God.

My heart beat frantically, racing to keep up with my thoughts that were spiraling out of control.  A shimmer of fear slithered through me, before he pulled my back into the safety of his firm chest.  And that was what I felt.

Safe.

With him, and I didn’t know why, and I was searching inside myself for resolve, for the commitment I’d made to never allow myself to be so easily played again.

But it was just out of my reach.

Darryn held me close, our bodies moving in time, like we shared the same breath, the same space.

I leaned back, my head on his shoulder as his face found the curve of my neck. Chills sped, spinning my body into a violent cataclysm of need. He let his hands roam, palms pressing hard as he ran them down the front of my legs, spanning them wide as he trailed them back up to my hips and over my stomach.

Fingertips dipped into my ribs as he slid them up the curve of my sides, and he lifted my arms as he went, in the same fluid motion fastening my hands around the back of his neck.

All those butterflies scattered, a clash of discordant wings that fluttered haphazardly through my insides, leaving my stomach in a coiled mess of confusion and need.

Why him? Why now?

Holding me close, he brushed his mouth over the shell of my ear, his whispered words injected directly to my manic heart. “Goddamn, Misha. What are you trying to do to me?”

I suddenly found it impossible to breathe, because it was him who was slowly undoing all the fibers of reservation woven through my weakened spirit.

“Can’t get you off my mind.” He leaned in closer, his hand sweeping up my stomach. Fingersbrushed between my breasts, and I released a sharp gasp.

“Been dying to touch you,” he murmured low.

SAVING ME – MOLLY McADAMS

“I’m about to embarrass the hell out of myself, but I don’t care anymore. I feel like when I’m near you, I’m safe, and it makes no sense to me. It is the weirdest feeling to have with someone I only know three things about.”

My eyebrows rose at that and I turned to fully face her. “Three?”

“Yes. Three things. Your name is Kier, you’re extremely quiet, and you are the biggest puzzle I’ve ever tried to figure out.”

I’m the puzzle?”

“Yes!” she said in exasperation.

That had to have been the most backward statement I’d ever heard. “And why am I a puzzle?”

“Because of what I just told you. I don’t know you, you don’t even talk to anyone, and I feel safe when you’re near me! Why is that? I feel like I’m going crazy because all I’ve been able to think about for these past two weeks is you, and how every time you open your mouth it’s like déjà vu, and I just—I don’t know what’s happening.” Her green eyes were massive and she looked like she was on the edge of losing her shit.

I took a few steps toward her and lowered my voice. “Calm down, Indy. You’re fine.”

“I just don’t understand,” she said loudly, the pitch of her voice rising. “Do you believe in past lives?” she asked suddenly.

I paused, a laugh slipping past my lips. “I’m sorry, what?”

“Past lives? Like that whole stupid YOLO saying is really just bullshit, because we’re about to get another shot down the road?”

I tried to contain my smile, but she was really fucking adorable when she was like this. “What does that have to do with what you’re freaking out over?”

“In stories with soul mates they find each other no matter what in every life. And it’s like they have a weird connection they can’t explain.”

I closed the distance between us and dropped my head so I was looking directly into her eyes. “Are you saying we’re soul mates?”

“No!” she said, horror lacing her voice, her cheeks filling with heat.

“I think you were,” I teased.

“I wasn’t, I was just saying that in stories . . . I don’t know what I’m saying, okay? But I don’t get what’s going on with us!”

“So now there’s an us?”

“Oh my God,” she whispered. “I need to stop talking.”

I laughed and took a step back. “I’m teasing you, Indy. And no, I don’t believe in past lives. I think we have this one, and that’s it.”

She sighed, and her body visibly relaxed. When she spoke again, she sounded exhausted—and in a way, defeated. “I don’t, either, but I can’t figure out how to explain this feeling like I know you.”

I ground my jaw for a few seconds as her green eyes held mine. “Because maybe you do know me. You’re just not ready to remember why.”

Beneath Your Layers

Christina Lee/When We Met Anthology

I motioned for the bar. “Want me to get you a soda or a water?”

Chloe stared at me for another long moment before she said, “No, thanks.”

We listened to the next song quietly standing beside each other, lost in our own thoughts. Until she turned to me and said, “Truth or dare?”

“Dare,” I said, almost breathless. Given her mood, maybe she’d give me something good this time.

“Your turn, Blake,” she said. “Do something spontaneous.”

My fingers trembled from wanting to touch her so badly and all I could think about was doing just that.

“You sure that’s what you want?” I said, turning and backing her against the wall.

“Yes,” she breathed out.

“Something spontaneous or something I’ve been thinking about doing for days?” I said, my lips coming closer to hers. “Maybe weeks?”

Her breath caught. “It . . . it’s your call.”

My head swung forward, our foreheads practically touching. Fluttery breaths were escaping her lips. I place my arms on either side of her head and she bit down on her lip.

My heart thrashed in my chest and all I could think about was how desperate I was to kiss her, but how nervous I was to blow this opportunity.

So I attempted to read her signals and they were definitely mixed. Her eyes flitted between panic and lust.

When I pinned my hip against hers, I could’ve sworn I heard a low moan in the back of her throat.

“Please,” she rasped out. “Please . . . don’t . . . Blake.”

My stomach was in my throat. Fuck, either I’d scared her or I’d been reading her wrong.

I leaned back to give her space, but her fingers suddenly skimmed across my waist, clenching my shirt and drawing me nearer.

“Don’t what?” I asked in confusion. She was so fucking messing with my head.

“Don’t . . .” She was panting now. “Don’t stop.”

Fouling Out

By Tiffany King

From the upcoming New Adult anthology

The warmth inside the building was soothing after walking from the car outside. I felt mildly disappointed when Dalton dropped his arm from my shoulders, until he reached for my hand. As we strolled along, I became hyperaware of how something as innocent as handholding could become somewhat erotic while sipping wine together. Dalton slid his thumb across the top of my hand in slow methodical strokes before gently caressing my pulse point. The hairs on the back of my neck felt as if they were standing on end. Each sweep of his thumb was a sensual dance with my sensitive skin, making it tingle.

It was becoming apparent to me that it might have been a bad call on my part to skip lunch. Between the scent of Dalton’s cologne and the alcohol I was consuming, I was already feeling slightly intoxicated. I nibbled on a few cubes of cheese to attempt to alleviate the buzzing in my head. Dalton’s breath teased my neck, making me shiver in a good way. I should have put some distance between us so I could regain my bearings, but instead I snuggled closer to him, wishing we were somewhere else with a lot fewer people around.

All the air escaped my lungs as Dalton slowly captured a bead of wine from my bottom lip with his finger. I watched with bated breath as he moved the finger to his own mouth, sucking the drop of wine. It was all I could do not to moan as my insides turned to putty.

“You need to stop looking at me like that,” Dalton murmured in my ear.

“Like what?” I licked the rest of the wine off my lip with the tip of my tongue.

This time it was Dalton who groaned softly. Placing his hands on my hips, he slowly backed me into a dim corner, away from prying eyes. “Like you’re thinking how great it would feel if I hoisted you up on that wine barrel table over there with your legs wrapped around my waist.”

“Are you sure that’s not you thinking that?” My hips responded almost instinctively as he pulled me snugly against his body. I could feel him, rock hard, pressed to my stomach. The wanting desire I had been keeping at bay from the moment he showed up at my house looking practically delectable with low-riding jeans and a black V-neck sweater that accentuated his well-toned chest was threatening to explode.

A Rocker Romance like none other! #RELLIK @TeresaMummert

Synopsis

Rellik Bentley is to die for.

He can have any woman he wants and they will do anything to be with him. He uses and abuses them like drugs and tosses them out with the trash. The only thing he gives a f*ck about is his music. That is, until Ella Lighten walks into his life and stumbles upon one of his darkest secrets. In the midst of doing damage control, he begins to obsess over the mysterious woman who wants absolutely nothing to do with him.

Rellik won’t take no for an answer.

Casey’s Thoughts

We all know that two halves make a whole, but what if each halves are tainted with a past that soon will collide?

Ryder grew up with one person in his life that understood him completely, Katie.  She was his best friend, girlfriend, and the one that kept him grounded.  He could count on her when his life was in shambles.  Ryder knew Katie’s secret and when he confronted Bryce about it, he also lost his best friend forever.  Fast forward and now Ryder goes by Rellik.  He’s a member of an awesome rock band.  With his past haunting him daily, he puts on a performance on and off stage.

Ella was left with her grandma at a young age and her mother never returned.  When her grandmother passes away, Ella is put into the system and prays to survive.  As soon as she’s able, she runs away and barely makes a living working as a bartender.  She trusts no one, but her scars remind her daily of the life she left.

One night their lives collide, and Rellik saves Ella from an attacker.  From this point forward, they are connected, but on a level that is GENIUS Teresa Mummert!  This story is dark, twisted, mind blowing, and will have you questioning what love will make you do.  It will have you questioning your morals, and I honestly thought, “could I do the same thing?”  Rellik is willing to do anything to help Ella get away from her past, but when he realizes it’s closer to his heart than he knew, protecting someone you love has an entirely new meaning.

This story took me a minute to focus on how they were connected, but once I did… WOW!!!! It was freakin’ mind blowing.  I have been a fan of Teresa Mummert since White Trash Beautiful, but this is by far the best book I’ve ever ready of hers.  This is def not your typical rock star romance, and the way the band was formed was priceless.  Personally, I it considering I deal with individuals that have some of the same issues on a daily basis.   Even though RELLIK is a rocker, I have to say that this book is so much more.  It’s about finding love when you’re lost in the past, and realizing that your future isn’t worth giving up.  Get your copy of RELLIK today!

Oh, Jake Bryant! #OurSong @AuthorCasey

OurSongBlogTour

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00051]

Available at iBooksAmazon, Nook, & Kobo for #99cents!
Synopsis

Belle Montgomery is a small town Carolina girl.  She leaves her simple life, family, and friends behind to open for the one and only country music mega star, Jake Bryant.  With a break in their tour, sparks are bound to fly when Jake visits the small podunk town of Lattimore.  That is until Belle’s long-time friend Chase McSwain makes his feelings known.  Will sparks fly between Belle and Jake, or will Chase extinguish them before they start?

Chelly’s Thoughts

Belle Montgomery has done her share of singing in local country bars but now she’s touring and opening for the “country music god” Jake Bryant and with a voice like hers, she’s bound to hit it big. Admittedly, she fangirled over Jake when she first found out she’d tour with him. I mean, who wouldn’t? He’s a hottie with a perfect voice, he’s a gentleman, and he knows how to rock a pair of tight jeans.

While on tour Belle and Jake have quickly become friends. They flirt non-stop but they can’t go there, not without making things weird, but he’s proving hard to resist. Especially when they find themselves with a few days off during the tour and Belle invites him back to her small hometown and her family’s cotton farm. All Jake wants is a genuine girl that likes him for him, not for his fame, and Belle could be that girl.

Enter Chase and Lindsay, Belle’s BFFs from home. Chase has always been there for Belle, but never more than a friend. Everyone else sees how Chase looks at her, even Jake, but Belle doesn’t see him as more than a friend. Belle misses her family, her home, and her friends, but she loves her singing life and is looking forward to that career taking off. If only she could have the best of both worlds.

What happens when Belle and Jake get a little too close during their downtime? Is the risk of the aftermath worth what she’s feeling in the moment? Jake’s jealousy of Chase could prove what Belle has denied all along, that there may actually be something between Chase and herself. Will her heart lead her in the right direction?

Our Song is another great story from the fabulous mind of Casey Peeler. It is a short story, but it’s not short on feels and down home country fun. Give it a shot, you won’t be disappointed.

As Jake finishes his finale, he takes a bow and runs offstage toward me. He lifts me off the ground and spins me around.

“Glad to see me?” I ask.

“You have no idea what it’s like to look out into the crowd and find eyes that you know. Really know, Belle.”

“If I didn’t know better, Mr. Bryant, I’d think somebody had a crush.”

“If I didn’t know better, I’d think you liked it.”

“What can I say? I’m a sucker for a country boy in tight ass jeans that knows how to work a stage.”

Excerpt

He let go of the door knob and put his hands on either side of my face and pulled me into him, our lips touching, needing each other like our next heartbeat.  Who was I kidding, I did need him more than my next heart beat.

He lifted me up, and I wrapped my legs around his waist and hooked my arms around his neck.  He walked back to my bedroom and laid me down on the bed, ever so gently.  He unlocked our lips and looked at me, sweeping my bangs out of my eyes.

“You are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.  I’ve waited so long to have you again…to taste you again, Khlo.”

I smiled, he was going to make me cry.

“For tonight, it’s just you and me, Khlo.  No one else,” he said as he crashed his lips into mine again.

I finally convinced myself that this was real…that he was real and tonight, I was his and he was mine.

“I’m sorry it took me so long to do this. Why don’t you look stressed out?”

“There’s nothing for me to stress about. The dress is going to fit you perfectly.” Sam said as she ushered Lisa into the changing booth that already had her dress in it. “Besides, the golf course is handling almost everything. All I have to do is show up. And pick up my family at the airport of course.”

“When are they flying in?”

“Tomorrow morning.” Sam winced. “Even though we tried to book flights three months ago this was the earliest we could get everyone in. Unless they all took a week off and flew in last weekend.”

“Ugh, what would you have done with them for a week?”

“Killed them. I’m sure”

“Who all’s coming?”

“Mom and Dad, T. W. and Sarah, Rick, Grandma, Pap, all of my parents’ brothers and sisters and about ten of my cousins.”

“Holy cow!”

“Yes. There are thirty-four of them.”

“That’s half the plane.”

“We got a group rate. Do you have that dress on yet or are you taking a nap in there?”

Lisa opened the door, and turned around. “Can you zip me?”

“Of course.” They looked at the mirror together. It was a simple strapless dress in royal blue. It fit Lisa like a glove and she looked perfect.

“See no reason to stress.”

“It’s beautiful.” Lisa said. “Are you sure you want me to wear this?”

“What did you think I would make you wear?”

“I’ve never been a bridesmaid before but I thought there was some sort of bylaw requiring some God-awful pink tulle creation.”

“Not for you, gorgeous.” Sam winked at her. “Chad’s going to choke on his tongue.”

Lisa rolled her eyes. “We got lunch today.”

“What? You got lunch with Chad?”

“Yup.”

“Voluntarily?”

“Yup.”

“Is he still living?”

“Of course he’s still living. What kind of question is that?”

“Are you perhaps softening towards him?”

“Don’t be silly. We were comparing our speeches for the toasts.”

“Well that seems like a perfectly reasonable excuse to have lunch with the second hottest man I know.” Sam said tongue in cheek.

“It was a short lunch.”

“How are the speeches?”

“We don’t have them yet. In fact, do you think there is any chance we could skip them?”

“Sure.”

“Really?”

“Yes. Luke and I both agree that ninety percent of weddings are useless pomp. The only parts we are serious about are the I Do’s and the cake.”

“For a girl who almost had apoplexy over the decision to move in with him, you are certainly taking this ‘til death do us part business in stride.”

Sam beamed. “What can I say? I’m in love.”
