Blog Tour & Cowboy Giveaway – Sandy Sullivan – Make Mine A Cowboy (Cowboy Dreamin’ 1)
Mesa Arraguso writes about hot cowboys for a living. Being a romance writer has it perks and its drawbacks. She spends a lot of time alone in front of her computer, but she gets to fantasize about incredibly hot men wearing cowboy boots and Stetsons. While visiting San Antonio, Texas for a writer’s conference, she finds herself stranded on the back roads of Bandera only to be rescued by one of the most gorgeous men she’s ever encountered, be it fantasy or for real.
Joel Young is a cowboy. From the top of his Stetson to the tip of his dirty cowboy boots, he’s cowboy through and through. Along with rescuing women when they do silly things like running out of gas miles from town on a dirt road, he spends his days herding cattle, fixing fences and breaking horses.
Can one handsome cowboy and a city-girl from LA find common ground is the Hill Country long enough to see beyond a quick fling?
Teaser #1:
Her reflex was to pull her hand back, but Joel grabbed it in his before she could. “You’re a beautiful woman. Other than guests, which are normally families with young kids, we don’t get a lot like you around here. Prepare to be overwhelmed.”
He kissed her fingers before he let his grip slacken on her hand so she could pull it free. The zing that raced up her arm bothered her. Those things only happened in her novels, not in real life. “Um, okay.”
As they rounded the doorway, the volume of noise increased tenfold. Several people either sat at the picnic tables chatting away or they were lined up at the serving area with plates in hand. One long table she hadn’t noticed before took up an entire wall. When she did a double take she noticed nine people, eight men and Joel’s mother, who sat there chatting while they waited for the others to be served. Holy shit! How many freakin’ brothers does he have again?
“Eight. There are nine of us boys.”
“Stop reading my mind.”
“Sorry. I can tell by the look in your eyes what is running through your head. You have very expressive brown eyes.” Joel tugged her hand and brought her to the spot where there were two empty seats. “Hey, ya’ll. This is Mesa.” A chorus of hellos echoed through the room, shushing the rest of the conversations going on around them. Joel quickly introduced the brothers around the table and that’s when she noticed two more who looked like…ohmigod. There are three of him? Yes, you could tell they all were brothers by the similar features, but…
“We’re triplets,” he whispered next to her ear with a chuckle.
Ah, hell! One gorgeous hunk to tantalize my senses is enough, but nine of them? And two who look just like him? I’m so screwed!
Teaser #2:
“What the hell is going on here? Why the ruse?”
“I’ll tell you, Mesa,” Joel said, coming around the side of the house. “I was pissed off at myself this morning because of what happened last night. Our kiss, I mean.”
“Well you know what? Fuck both of you! You want to play these sillyassed games, you can play them on some other unsuspecting woman. I’m not doin’ it.”
“Mesa, listen,” Joel implored, holding out his hand to touch her arm.
She jerked back and slapped at him. “No. This is childish. I can’t believe you two! I thought I might have meant a little more to you than this, Joel, but apparently not. What we shared last night was special to me, but not to you. I’m just another girl to you.”
“No, you’re not, Mesa.”
“Yeah, whatever.” She spun around to head back into the house. Maybe it was time to go. Head back to Los Angeles and lick her wounds.
“Mesa, please.”
“What Joel?” She turned back around.
“Let’s talk about this.”
“What the hell is there to talk about? You and your brother were playing me for the fool. How many times have you three switched places on a girl, huh? I bet a lot.”
“No.”
“Yes.” During her discussion with Joel, Jason had disappeared either back into the house or whatever. At this point, she really didn’t care. He probably slinked back into his hidy hole. Man, if she ever became a permanent part of this family, she’d…what? Those are crazy thoughts.
Joel slipped his hand along the side of her face before burying his hand in her hair. He dragged her in closer with a fistful of her hair at the back of her neck. “I want you.”
“You made a fool of me.”
“No, I wanted to make sure it was me you wanted.” His lips whispered over hers. The softness skimmed across her cheek to her ear. “I need you.”
“Need is a powerful word.”
“It’s totally what I’m feeling, but I can’t promise you anything beyond tonight.”
“I don’t need anything more.”
“Are you sure?” he asked, listing his head to look into her eyes. The blue glistened in the moonlight like a beacon for her lost soul.
“Yes. I need you. I need this.”
“Your room or my place?”
“You have somewhere we can go?”
“Yeah. I have my own cabin a few miles up the road.”
“Make love to me, Joel. Fuck me.”
He pulled her head back as he raked his teeth along her neck. Shivers raced down her arms as a soft moan escaped her mouth. “Come home with me.”

A Reason to Cut Royalties in Half?
Reblogged from Savvy Writers & e-Books online:

Amazon is stepping up its efforts to acquire rights to author's book content. Just recently Amazon bought world rights to two books by UK romantic comedy novelist Matt Dunn, in a deal signed directly with the author. A Day at the Office, originally self-published, had reached the Top 10 in the Kindle book chart.
Also in the UK this week, Amazon's new Thomas & Mercer, a thriller and mystery press, made its first acquisition with two self-published works from Mel Sherratt, …

#MySexySaturday – He’s So Into You (Healing Hearts) – Part 6
Welcome to Week 13 of My Sexy Saturday Blog Hop.
It’s my pleasure to give you my definition of sexy. Check out last week’s definition of the term.
I think when a man sweeps a woman off her feet, especially when she least expects it, is incredibly sexy. It makes her feel delicate, wanted, protected, loved. This is evident in the following 7 paragraphs of my debut novella, He’s So Into You, when Jordan sweeps Raina off her feet. That’s so sexy!
My Sexy Excerpt:
Jordan responded by claiming her hands and planting a kiss on her lips. Without breaking their connection, he swept her off her feet, walked over to the bed and gently placed her on it.
Jordan gazed down at her as she lay on the bed looking like an enchantress.
I’m going to show her how much I want her tonight.
Maybe even after tonight.
Jordan was shocked by the depth of his feelings for a woman he had known such a short time…
Damn.
It’s only for one night.
If you want a sexy read this weekend, why not purchase He’s So Into You?

#Secret Cravings Publishing Blog Hop
I’m so delighted you stopped by. It’s my pleasure to welcome you to the Secret Cravings Publishing Blog Hop.
Today, I’ll share one excerpt from my debut novella, He’s So Into You. In this story, Jordan and Raina, two strangers, have endured some difficult circumstances. For that reason, their best friends set them up on a blind date.
***One lucky commenter has a chance to win a PDF copy of He’s So Into You. All you have to do is to tell us what you would do to help your best friend (or anybody you care about) get over a particularly difficult situation.***
Here’s the blurb:
Being badly injured in a plane crash and feeling responsible for losing his fianceé keep Jordan Cooper from getting involved with another woman, but his best friend Caleb talks him into going on a blind date. He’s surprised that in a short time his feelings for Raina Abbott runs deep. Jordan wants more than just one night with her, but he has to convince her first.
Leaving an abusive ex and ending an unhealthy relationship with food still aren’t enough to help Raina Abbott overcome her feelings of insecurity, but her best friend Jayce convinces her that going on a blind date is the first step to boosting her self-confidence and feeling good about herself again. Jordan Cooper shows her that she’s beautiful, both inside and out, but can a date and one night of passion assure her that he’s really into her?
Excerpt:
“May I ask you a question, Raina?
“Sure.”
“I just wondered why you’re here with me.”
“Because you invited me to your room, remember?”
It was obvious she evaded his question. It was the first time Jordan noticed Raina wasn’t altogether comfortable. So why in the world is she here?
“You know what I mean. Why are you on this date?
“Why shouldn’t I?”
“You’re beautiful, charming and intelligent. I would think you’d have men lining up just to be with you.”
Raina laughed without humor. “The trouble is, the guys I know either don’t want to be romantically involved with a full figured woman or just pretend they do.”
“You’re telling me you’ve never been seriously involved with anyone? Never been in love?”
“What’s love anyway?” she asked mockingly, and then shrugged her shoulders. “Maybe it’s just the irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired.”
“You think quoting Robert Frost is a satisfactory answer?” Jordan shook his head. “Be honest with me.”
Raina stopped swaying to the music and looked at him seriously. “Okay, you want to hear the truth? The truth is, I met a man who threw kindness my way, flowers, late night phone calls, the works. Within three months I moved in with him, much to the angst of my family. It didn’t dawn on me that he never took me anywhere, never invited his family or friends to our apartment, until I had invested so much time and effort in the relationship, I felt I shouldn’t leave him. He treated me like crap, insulted me, nothing I said or did met his approval. I became a chicken-shit, afraid of him, afraid of my freaking shadow, for god’s sake. I felt like such an idiot, because I didn’t even realize what I had become. Everyone noticed but me.”

Book Spotlight – A Woman Scorned – T.P. Miller
Blurb:
Zena is pissed off and done with love when she finds out her boyfriend, Malik is cheating on her. She’s heartbroken….until the maintenance man makes his rounds.
Excerpt:
I looked at the clock that sat on the side of my bed. It was almost three in the morning and Malik wasn’t back yet. I was done. His cheating ass could stay under the ho he just climbed from under. My fingers clenched together into fists as I imagined taking them and punching him in the face. Oh well. That’s what you get.
I watched the lights of the Vegas strip illuminate the rest of the city as I lay stretched across the bed. My curves were barely covered in the black bra and panty set that I’d stripped down to. It was still 89 degrees outside and the air conditioning was out again. I would deal with that later. The heat had me boiling hot in more ways than one.
Malik had until 3:30 to get his tired ass in this house before he found his shit spread in front of 66 Purgatory Blvd. I didn’t care. I watched the clock face change and the bead of water slowly descend the glass of ice water that I’d gotten. Forgive me. My name is Zena Hudson. I’m twenty-six and I’ve been in Vegas for six years now. I came to Vegas to find my chance at dancing. I ended up becoming a bartender at the Luxor casino. That’s where I met Malik. That’s where I’ve been for our two year relationship.
Just as I was about to grab his shit, I heard the front door open. The bedroom door was next and the man that I thought I loved stood in the doorway.
“Baby, what are you doing?”
“I’m packing your shit.” I say as I grab another duffle bag and start tossing underwear in.
“Why? Baby, what’s wrong?” He tried to walk up to me and grab me but I moved away.
“Since you want to stay out with nasty ass hos all night, you can stay with them bitches. Get the hell outta my house.”
He did the exact opposite. He took the bag I was holding and walked over to the bed, putting the bag by the bed.
“I haven’t been cheating on you.”
“Really? Then where have you been since,” I looked at the clock, “3:28 in the morning?”
“I was hanging with the guys.” He sat back a little and looked at me.
“I’m not stupid, Malik!” I could feel my nails dig into my palms as I yelled. “I’m not some stupid chick that just met you. Your ass has been out with some cheap trick.” I turned back to the bag and started throwing stuff back in. “And you want to come in here and act like the shit is all cool. Nah, it ain’t gonna happen.”
“Zena, I’m…I…” he stuttered. That’s how I knew his trifling ass was guilty.
I looked over my shoulder at him. “Was she any good?”
“Zena, baby. Come on. You know I-“
“Was she any good,Malik?” I yelled.
I was a big girl. I could take it if the tramp was better. Even though I knew that she wasn’t. Malik grew silent, making me turn around.
“Well? You gonna sit and look stupid or are you gonna answer? I ain’t got all night?” I threw the bag at him as hard as I could. It hit him in the shoulder and fell to the floor.
“No. No, she wasn’t better.”
I slapped him. I slapped him as hard as I could and it felt good.
He grabbed his cheek where his chestnut colored skin was reddening from my hit. I didn’t care. All I saw was red. His six foot body towered over my five eight frame but I pushed him on the bed as hard as I could. He looked at me like I was crazy. He didn’t know how to react or if he should worried that I was going to kill him. Good.
“Since you want to stick your shit in every bitch you see, I’mma show you want you’re going to be missing when I put your ass out.” I sat on top of him, still watching him in the glow of the neon light. Neither of us said a word. Just when I thought that enough time had gone by, I slapped his other cheek. It wasn’t as hard as the first one, but it got the reaction I wanted.
“Zena, you gon’ stop slappin’—“ He stopped because I slapped the shit out of him again.
“Shut up.” I started taking off the wife beater that he wore. I laughed at the irony that I was the one beating his ass right now. I tossed the sweat soaked fabric to the floor. I had to admit. Malik always made me hot and nothing changed even though I was pissed.
“So, who was she?” I asked as I pulled at the buckle of his belt.
“Come on, Zena. Don’t do this.” He said as I pushed him back on the bed.
“I asked you a question.” I said as I continued working on his belt. As much as I hated him right now, I needed him. One more time I needed to get him out of my system. I let go of his belt and leaned over him. My face was inches from his cause I wanted him to look me in the eye. When he didn’t say anything I started to kiss him on the neck, something I knew would melt him. My lips on the sensitive skin of his neck and come out that sounded something between a grunt and a moan. The harder I sucked, the louder he seemed to get. He better enjoy what he got ‘cause he would never get this from me again. I pulled away from his neck and placed my lips on his. He brought his arms around me to hold me but I knocked them away. Tonight he’d lost all rights to this body of mine. Tonight I would torture him with what he couldn’t claim and kick him out when I was done.

Creativing Writing Tip: How to Utilize the Strengths of the Flashback Scene
Reblogged from Creative Writing with the Crimson League:

Today, I'd like to continue our discussion about flashbacks. In particular: when you decide to use one, how can you minimize its disruptive nature? How can you best make it flow with the story and least throw off your pacing?
Flashbacks aren't always your best option, but sometimes they can really work wonderfully. I have used at least one flashback in each of my published novels (and there's one in my unpublished first horror of a novel too) :-)

Book Spotlight – Gents 4 Ladies – Dez Burke
Desperate for a last-minute date to her bitch of a boss’s wedding, Tiana takes a friend’s advice and hires a male escort from a website, “Gents4Ladies” featured on the Wendy Williams Show. The website seemed completely legitimate and even explicitly stated that the men are hired for companionship only and that no sexual favors will be performed in exchange for money.
Jordan, a highly respected financial manager, is shocked and dismayed when a young woman calls his cellphone requesting his services as a male escort to a wedding. Realizing someone is playing a vicious prank on him by uploading his profile to a male escort site, he decides to go along with the farce in hopes of finding out who the culprit is. The only problem is Jordan thinks he’s being hired for the “total package”-dinner, dancing and whatever “other services” the lady desires…
Excerpt:
One thing was for sure: Tiana looked sexy and attractive. He liked how she wore her hair, done in a wavy style pinned close to the sides of her head. Very feminine. It made her features all the more open to scrutiny, and certainly she had nothing to worry about in the looks department with her even caramel skin, a nice, smooth forehead, perky nose, and full, inviting lips.
Her eyes were a bright, arresting brown, thickly lashed and piercing. It cut right through him every time she looked at him in that speculatively sensual way of hers that made his blood steam up. She seemed ready to leap right at him, Jordan sensed, and just the discovery of having her so attracted to him was making him forget all his good intentions.
The truth was: he’d finally decided to come clean. Realized that there was no way he could get away with deceiving her. He’d told himself this over and over, as he’d driven here to meet her. That first crazy impulse he’d felt in Tommy’s office had cooled down into common sense. He’d warned himself that he couldn’t let her go on thinking he was something he was not. He couldn’t proceed with this farce, knowing he was tricking an unsuspecting female.
But then he’d come in, taken one look at her in that alluring emerald green dress, and he’d felt something kick him in the guts.
I can’t deny it; I want her badly, Jordan decided. Their gazes kept locking and he wondered if she knew exactly what she was doing to him. How she was making him ready to forget all his codes, his principles – his sane judgment, just to see where all this would lead.
You could just tell her the truth, a voice told him simply. Let her know that this was all a massive mix-up, and then confess that you are attracted to her anyway. And who knew? It could still end splendidly, for both of them. She could laugh it all off with him and say, what the hell, let’s carry on regardless.
But no…this way was far, far more fun.
