Putting Some Meat on the Bones
Reblogged from Christina Cole Romance:

My apologies for not posting more frequently here. I've found myself right in the middle of some serious time crunches lately, and for now, work on this new, untitled story will be slow. Thank you for your patience and your understanding.
Last time we were together, we talked about talking...just talk, nothing more. We put together a "bare bones" dialogue…

The Right Kind of Love (Loving A Morrison) – #MSSWeek19 #MySexySaturday
So I’m back again to My Sexy Saturday Blog Hop after a short hiatus, and this time I want to share with you another sexy excerpt from my second IR romance, which is scheduled for release later this month. Click here if you want to read the first sexy excerpt I’d shared a few weeks ago.
What’s your sexy excerpt for this week? Well, I’m glad you asked. My 7 sexy paragraphs depict one example of the games my heroine Sloane played throughout the novel. In this case, she tried to hide the fact she’d been watching the hero Blake since he arrived to the fundraising event.
My Sexy Excerpt:
“Let’s go outside for some fresh air.” Blake looked around him. “Seems like the crowd’s getting larger.
“Where are Kaylee and Caleb? You’ve been with them since you arrived.”
“You’ve been watching me all along?”
Busted. She needed to get her wits about her. And she wasn’t going to admit anything to him.
“I just figured this event was not your kind of thing.”
“Any fundraiser is my kind of thing as long as it helps my sister beat cancer.” Blake considered her for her moment before he responded. “Besides, they’ll be leaving in a few minutes.”
“I was glad I got a chance to speak with Kaylee tonight. She told me she’s getting stronger every day.”
Click here to check out this week’s Sexy Saturday authors who are pleased to share 7 words, 7 sentences or 7 paragraphs – snippets from their latest works………

Author & Book Spotlight – Marteeka Karland – Takedown – #bookspotlight – #authorspotlight
Join me in welcoming my guest, Author Marteeka Karland. I know her as one half of a dynamic writing duo (with Shara Azod), who has written many stories that I’ve loved and re-visited over and over again. However, Marteeka has written many stories of her own, too, and I have to tell you, there was just a certain je ne se quoi about the short story, Sweet Tart…
Today, Marteeka will tell us a little bit about herself, like how she’s able to balance family life with her writing, something interesting that many people don’t know about her and what she wants her fans to gain from reading her books. And in spite of the fact she’s written over eighty books, she still has some more in store for us before the year ends.
So without further ado, let’s get the ball rolling.
I’m delighted to have you here. Let’s start by telling us, who is Marteeka Karland, and why did you decide to write?
It wasn’t so much me deciding to write as it was getting up the courage to show others my work. I wrote my first “story” in the third grade. It was about two hand written pages long, a Halloween story featuring kids in my class. I was SO embarrassed when my teacher read it to the class, I ducked my head under the desk and didn’t move until she’d finished. After that, I was hooked.
Which authors have you collaborated with? Give us some insight into the dynamics of writing a story as a team.
I just completed a series with Shelby Morgen, and have done one book with Elizabeth Jewell. The writer I most often collaborate with is Shara Azod. She’s my writing soul mate as well as a huge pain in my ass, but I make her crazy so I call it even.
Do you write full-time?
Yes. It is where the majority of my income comes from, though I have a part time job in a busy Emergency Room. I quit that job full time back in early September of 2012, and the Breast Center in late October 2013 and picked up writing and cover art full time. I didn’t start back actually part time until April of 2013 and only because the wonderful woman who took my full time position passed away and I felt sorry for my team. I enjoy that work, but writing is what I love the most.
How do you balance family life with your writing?
VERY carefully. Though, it’s not as hard as one might think. My office can be anywhere I want. I take my son to the park and sit at a picnic table with my laptop. Or write long hand while he’s at a ball game. I even take my computer to the drive-in sometimes to work on a cover if necessary. One of the many reasons I love what I do.
What’s the funniest/best/worst pick up line ever used on you? Have you ever incorporated it into any of your books?
I can honestly say, I was the one doing the picking up when I dated. And no. I’ve never used any of my many horrible pick up lines.
Tell us something interesting about you not many people know.
I’m actually very musically inclined. I have numerous medals for trumpet and piano, as well as voice. I sang at my own Baccalaureate in high school, and was invited back by the next year’s graduating class to sing at the actual graduation services.
Have ever written a character that was bits and pieces of you? Who was it?
Well, the last book in the Executive Decisions book IS an erotic romance author. Beyond that, I shall not comment.
Which of your books would you like to be made into a movie?
The Black Star series. Or maybe God of Fire. Those are the two I’m most proud of.
If you could date any character from any book you’ve written, who would it be?
Shiffley from Lionsheart. Why? Cause he tries to hard to be an anti-hero. I LOVE the anti-hero.
Give us a brief overview of your previous works.
Not sure what to tell you there. I’ve got over 80 books out. Most are science fiction/paranormal. The past few years, I’ve tried to break out into Interracial Romance. Which is what led to my love affair with Shara Azod. Or maybe that’s the other way around… *scratching head.*’
What’s your favorite book or series you’ve written?
Probably Black Star.
Have you ever based your characters on real people?
Uh… no comment.
What do you want your readers to gain from reading one of your books?
Any strong emotion. Even if it’s negative, as long as it’s not mediocre. More than anything, when they finish one of my books, I hope they come away thinking, “now, there’s a woman who loves to write…”
Do you listen to music while you write? Are there any other rituals you do?
Not so much music as movies. I will generally find a movie that seems to click with me and watch it over and over while I write. When I first started, it was Day After Tomorrow. Currently, I seem to have World War Two documentaries playing in the background. Or the Hatfields and McCoys. No idea why, but it seems to help me concentrate.
Which author(s) would you consider your greatest influence? Why?
Angela Knight, Shara Azod… recently, Kresley Cole. Ms. Cole is one of the most imaginative, creative people I’ve ever read. I read her Immortals After Dark series and I’m just in complete awe. Angela Knight is the same way, and I actually have interactions as equals with her. She makes me feel like I’m actually a good writer. Shara… well, Shara makes me stretch myself. Though there are times I’d love to kill her for it, I’m still grateful.
What advice would you give to new or aspiring authors?
You don’t have to be published to be an author. You have to be published to be PAID to be an author. There’s a difference. When you wake up in the morning, what is your first thought? If it’s that you need to get to that next part of your book, if you can’t think of anything else but writing, if that’s your main goal every day, then you’re meant to be a writer. Write. Don’t let anyone tell you your not a writer. Doesn’t mean you’re a GREAT writer, or even a good one, but if you love it enough and are persistent enough, you can learn and get better.
Tell us about your latest book/series.
I just released the final book in a series with Shelby Morgen called, Memphis Heat. It’s about a faction of the Memphis Police Department that just happens to be werewolves. They have sex a lot. Also, I’m in the middle of a science fiction series called IIllicit. There are currently two books completed: IIllicit Mating and Illicit Sex. I’m currently working on Illicit Craving. These books are set in a near future Earth where the people are trying to colonize the moon and Mars with the help of an advanced species wanting to seek mates from the people of earth. Only, someone is trying to sabotage the colonies and it’s looking more and more like a high level conspiracy.
What can readers expect from you for the rest of 2013?
I have at least one Illicit book that will be completed before the end of the year, as well as a Christmas book for Changeling’s Red Velvet Christmas seasonal releases. God only knows what I’ll get finished for Shara, but I’m sure there will be several releases between now and the first of the year.
Memphis, Tennessee. Two packs fight for the heart of the city — one old world, one new. The Russian mob and the MPD stand at odds, the city of Memphis caught in their crossfire.
Their growing pack at their backs, the new Alphas plan to leave their enemies in the dust. But it’s their friends they should be watching out for.
When the final takedown comes, there will only be one Alpha standing.
Excerpt:
“What do you know about Remmy?”
Callahan recognized Amanda’s tone. This was more than a casual inquiry. She was up to something. Still, listening to her, knowing how her brain was filtering through facts like flour through a sieve was fascinating. And sexy. “Good kid. I was his training officer. Quick study. Good at reading situations. Fast on his feet.”
“Relationships?”
“None that I know of. Why?”
Amanda shrugged. “He did good out there today. I like him. But before we go under fire I want to know he’s going to have your back.” She peeked up at him from under her lashes then. “Besides. He’s kinda cute.”
“I’ll personally vouch for the kid. He’s as solid as they come. Strong. Loyal. He took a bullet protecting two children before he was turned. I can’t imagine anything about Remmy being disingenuous.” He grinned, knowing his she wolf so very well, and getting hard just thinking about all the lusty images that flitted through his mind at his next words. “But if you want to get to know him… better…” Callahan looked up just as the pup walked in the locker room. He gave Amanda a sharp snap of his chin. With a crafty smile, she snipped their conversation short.
Remmy acknowledged them with an inclination of his head before pulling off his T-shirt with one hand and tossing it into his locker. Callahan grinned as Amanda snuck a look when neither man thought she was looking. Not to be outdone, Callahan had to do the same one-handed trick with his own T-shirt, flexing his muscles for effect.
Amanda made an appreciative noise, crossing her arms under her ample breasts and leaning against the lockers. “Now there’s a sight I could get used to.”
Remmy cast a glance at Callahan, who merely shrugged, trying unsuccessfully to smother a grin. “Should I be jealous, or thankful you like the view? I’m sure there’s a rule somewhere about ogling your fellow officers.”
Amanda glanced at Remmy, then back at Callahan. “You’re always hung up on the damn rules. Rules are made for breaking. And there’s more than enough of me to go ’round.”
Callahan laughed, completely delighted with Amanda’s line of thinking. Unfortunately, Remmy looked a little bug-eyed. Apparently he had no clue what to do with a woman like Amanda. Hell, Callahan couldn’t blame him. Sometimes he didn’t know what to do with her, either. Fortunately, he’d long ago figured out it was best to just give Amanda her way. It made everyone happy and no one got… well… dead.
“Look out, cub.” Callahan slapped the younger man on the back. “The Alpha Bitch has you in her sights.”
“But you guys… Aren’t you a couple?”
“Absolutely,” Callahan answered.
Amanda grinned. “Two’s a couple. Three’s… more fun.”
Callahan knew flirting was one thing to a young man — showing off, even. But having a woman like Amanda take him seriously? That was quite another. He knew this from first-hand experience. For the first time since Callahan had met Remmy, he could tell the younger man was in a situation he had no idea how to handle. He could just imagine the thoughts going through Remmy’s mind. Run with it and risk the wrath of his lieutenant, or ignore an Alpha and possibly get his throat ripped out…
No one ignored Amanda.
Amanda took the decision out of his hands. “Come on. I want to run. Join us.”
Callahan grinned. Nothing like a good run to introduce the kid to the ways of the pack. And they were pack. Born wolves or not, the knowledge seemed to be instinctive to all of them.
Stripping, he shifted. Amanda followed, only a moment behind him, and faster.

Author & Book Spotlight – Leanora Moore – Finding Love Within -#AuthorSpotlight – #BookSpotlight
Join me in welcoming Author Leanora Moore today. Both Leanora and I are members of the Promotional Support Group, and it’s been a pleasure getting to know her.
Today, she’ll tell us how she balances her family life with her writing and what she wants her fans to gain from reading her books. And of course, she’ll tell us about her latest release, Finding Love Within.
So let’s get started.
I’m delighted to have you here. Let’s start by telling us, who is Leanora Moore, and why did you decide to write?
Believe it or not, I’m a down home country girl at heart, who loves to read and write romance. I started reading romance in my teen years and was instantly hooked. I have always had the urge to write, starting at a very early age. It wasn’t till 2009, when I finally decided to publish one of my stories.
Do you write full-time?
I do write full time. I divide my days up into sections, I write for six hours, then I promote for two hours. I do this eight hour a day, five days a week, so I don’t push my story to much and also so I don’t burn myself out.
How do you balance family life with your writing?
Thankfully I have a very understanding family, and just like any other job, they know that writing is mine. I try to stick to my Monday through Friday schedule, so that the weekends are our family time.
Have ever written a character that was bits and pieces of you? Who was it?
Yes I have! Deidra in Finding Love Within, reminds me so much of myself. She’s a caring and giving person, but you push her the wrong way, and she is going to let you know. Dedira, also was letting life pass her by and became tired of it, so she decided to make some changes. That’s the same thing that happened to me, when I was diagnosed with Lupus and Chronic asthma, I felt like giving up and I had to re-evaluate my life, and I decide to fight for myself and my family.
Which of your books would you like to be made into a movie?
If I had to pick one of my books to make into a movie, it would have to be Smooth As Silk. Seeing Angela’s life blossom on the screen would be amazing, just like it was in the book.
Give us a brief overview of your previous works.
My first novel titled The Caress of a Younger Man, and it is a story about Eboni, who thought her life was going great, till Jeremy bumped into her life. He also happened to be one of her students. Then I released Heavenly Kingdom, which tells the story of Layla, who is the pastor at Heavenly Kingdom Baptist Church and a single mother. Her life was going great, till Victor walked back into her life and made her face some skeletons in her closet. Then I released the first volume in my Voluptuously Curvy and Loving It Series, called Smooth As Silk. It tells the story of Angela, who’s life as been to hell and back, but she has lived through it and is now doing something that she loves, singing for a living. Just as her career takes off, Gary McNeil, music mogul who owns McNeil Records, offers her a deal of a life time.
What’s your favorite book or series you’ve written?
Right now, my favorite book is Finding Love Within, because it has romance mixed with a little suspense.
What do you want your readers to gain from reading one of your books?
I want my readers to be able to relate with my characters and their experiences. I also want my plus size sisters and women in general to know that no matter your shape, size, or color that you can find someone who will love you for who you are.
Do you listen to music while you write? Are there any other rituals you do?
Yes, I have to have my old school R&B or Pop music playing. It sets the mood in my mind for romance, desire, and passion.
Which author(s) would you consider your greatest influence? Why?
Danielle Steel and Brenda Jackson were my greatest influences because, they opened my eyes to the romance genre and were the first romance authors I had ever read.
What advice would you give to new or aspiring authors?
I would advise aspiring authors to stay focused on their goals, and also continue to learn about your craft as a writer, because this industry is always changing.
What can readers expect from you for the rest of 2013?
Right now I’m working on volume three of my Voluptuously Curvy and Loving It Series called Her Forgotten Lover, which I’m trying to release by December 2013.
Deidra Parker is a plus size executive assistant, who has led a boring life and she’s tired of it. So she decided to add some excitement to her life. Starting with getting the attention of the only man she has ever loved since they were kids in the sandbox and who also happened to be her boss, Jackson Reynolds.
Jackson has the reputation of being a playboy, because his relationships never last longer than a month or two. Just ending his last relationship, Jackson starts to rethink his idea on dating and wants to give up on dating for a while.
Will Deidra’s new look and attitude make Jackson want to be in a lasting relationship or will he revert back to his old ways and hurt Deidra in the process?
Excerpt:
At the reception, after taking a ton of pictures and having to pose next to Jackson in most of them, Deidra needed a drink. Standing at the bar, sipping on a margarita, Deidra tried to calm her nerves, as her mind and body had different plans.
“I see that Jackson has thrown you away like an old dish towel,” said a female voice behind her. When Deidra turned around, she came face to face with Evelyn Foster.
“Don’t get me confused with yourself,” Deidra replied smiling. This was the fight she had needed, so she could release some of the anger balled up inside of her.
“Did you truly think you could satisfy a man like Jackson,” Evelyn asked smiling. It took everything in her being, not to smack the hell out of that cow, but she did not want to ruin her best friend’s wedding, so she did the next best thing.
“Even though my relationship with Jackson is none of your business, but I need to ask this, how does it feel to be told by a man over and over that he doesn’t want you? He has even had you thrown out of the buildings a few times?” Deidra asked as she sat her drink down on the bar and turned back to Evelyn smiling.
“What the hell are you doing at my wedding?” Trinity asked as she and Jackson walked up looking mad as hell.
“I can to support my future sister in law, congratulations by the way,” Evelyn replied as she went to hug Trinity, but Trinity stepped back.
“Evelyn was just telling me, how she thought that Jackson had thrown me away like an old dish rag. Oh yeah, and that I couldn’t hold on to a man like you, Jackson,” Deidra stated smiling as Evelyn’s smile dimmed a little, when she looked at Jackson’s stone face.
Lifting her drink up from the bar to her lips, Deidra tried to hide her smile, then she thought what the hell, this woman came over there messing with her. So she lowered her glass and smiled at Evelyn, who sent daggers from her eyes toward Deidra.
“What are you smiling about fat ass?” Evelyn yelled drawing everyone’s attention.
Walking slowly around her, ” it’s just so funny how I, the fat girl, ended up with the man that you have been stalking, and from the look on his face, he still doesn’t want you,” Deidra finished with her drink still in her hand, she walked over to Jackson and placed her arm around his waist, and he did the same while smiling down at her.
“As you can see, we are in love, and for the last time, I don’t want you,” Jackson stated just as security walked up.
“Jackson, I know you don’t mean that. This fat ass bitch must be doing something to you,” Evelyn yelled.
“I got your fat bitch,” Deidra yelled as she dashed the rest of her drink in Evelyn’s face and then lunged at her, but Jackson grabbed her.
“You bitch,” Evelyn screamed and just as she lunged at Deidra, security grabbed her arms as Jackson’s and Deidra’s family surrounded them.
“I got your bitch!” Deidra yelled as she punched Evelyn in her jaw, knocking her to the floor. Jackson and Robert quickly grabbed Deidra as security started pulling Evelyn out of the room kicking and screaming.
Deidra pulled herself out of Jackson and Roberts arms, and walked over to the bar to get another drink because her nerves were on the edge and she felt like killing someone. With a new drink in her hand she started pacing back and forth trying to calm down. She couldn’t believe that the witch had the balls to say that mess to her.
“Sis, are you alright?” Robert asked as he made her stop pacing and look up at him.
“I’m fine, I’m just tired of her thinking she can talk to me out the side of her neck, and not have to deal with the consequences,” Deidra stated after she took a deep breath.
“Sis, she’s gone now, you sure you don’t need some ice for your hand,” Daniel asked as he looked at her bruised hand.
“No, it will be fine,” Deidra replied as she looked down at her hand.
“That woman is crazy,” Amelia Reynolds, Jackson’s mom, stated as the party music started again.
“She was about to get her butt whipped for trying to ruin my reception,” Trinity stated as Jason put his arms around her shoulders.
“Let’s just focus on having a good time,” Alan Parker, Deidra’s dad said as he pulled his daughter into his arms and hugged her.
“He’s right Trinity, you owe your dear old dad a dance anyway,” Connor stated as he twirled Trinity around, causing everyone to laugh and head to the dance floor leaving Jackson and Deidra alone.
“Are you alright?” Jackson asked as he stood in front of her and lifted her chin.
“Yeah I’m fine, just tired of all this craziness,” Deidra replied as he reached for her hand and started to look at it. The feel of his hand sent a shiver down her spine and made her forget all about the pain she was feeling.
“I know that now isn’t the time, but after the reception, can we go somewhere and talk?” Jackson asked looking into her eyes.
Just looking into his eyes, and feeling his firm hand caressing hers, made her feel safe again, and she quickly remembered why she fell in love with him in the first place.
“Jackson, it’s not going to change my mind, but yes we can talk,” she said as she tried to figure out, who she was trying to convince, him or herself.
“Thank you, now can I have the honor of this dance,” Jackson asked as he led her onto the dance floor. By the smile on his face, she knew he was up to something.
Dancing across the dance floor, Deidra tried to enjoy the way it felt in his arms, and the masculine smell of his cologne that just wrapped around her like a warm blanket on a cold night. She felt safer than she had in the past month, and then she realized that after everything was over at the reception, she would be alone again in her hotel room.
