What can a proofreader do for you? FAQs

Reblogged from juliaproofreader:

What's the difference between proofreading and editing?

As a proofreader, I will correct the following:

Spelling errors
Typos
Punctuation errors
Grammatical errors
Obviously missing or duplicated words
Misapplied or inconsistent tenses
Wrongly-assigned dependent clauses

Editors will perform services such as: suggesting cutting out characters; changing or omitting dialogue; changing the narrative arc of the novel; moving chapters around; various other suggestions that will in their opinion improve the book.

Recently I read a fantastic book, that really hooked me, wanting to read more from this author. It had not a single typo or grammar error. However, the protagonist, a young girl, was using an ipod, later in the story she was getting tickets to a concert that actually happened in the late 60's and when she got missing, her mother gave the girls birth date as in 1948 to the police.

How Bloggers and Authors Benefit From Reading Blogs

Reblogged from Creative Writing with the Crimson League:

I sometimes write about blogging from the perspective of an author: how blogging can help us develop our skills, develop a community of readers, and get us thinking in creative and new ways about the craft of fiction.

Today’s post is about blogging, but from the perspective of a blog reader. Following a number of quality blogs—and there are LOTS of quality blogs out there—is time-consuming.

4 Tips to Blog Your Best (and Make Blogging About You): No Matter Your Topic

Reblogged from Creative Writing with the Crimson League:

Blogs and bloggers come in all shapes and sizes, with all kinds of different interests, but good bloggers share some characteristics in common, and that's what this post is about.

I happen to be an independent author with a history of dissecting literature in grad school, so I blog about fiction: what makes good fiction, and what things we authors should avoid (for the most part).

Interracial dating

Reblogged from My Struggle To Remain CF:

I often wonder what kind of man I'll end up with someday if my relationship with my current boyfriend ends (which is a serious possibility due to our disagreement over the most important decision a couple can make – whether or not to have children). There are so many traits I find attractive in men that it’s hard to imagine them all rolled into one with a bow on it.

Book Spotlight ~ And Then ~ Tia Kelly #BYNR @AvidReadersCafe #bookspotlight

Recently, Author Tia Kelly released Playing for Love. Click here if you want to read the interview I had with her in September.

Here is some more good news; Tia has just released a brand new follow-up to The Love Sessions series called And Then. It promises to be another fascinating read from this up-and-coming author. In this installment, readers have the opportunity to learn about the couples who featured in The Love Sessions, after their workshop had ended (each couple is featured in their own stories: Save Me From You, Give Me You and Love’s Rebound.

So, without further ado, And Then will be put in the spotlight.

Blurb:

All’s well that ends well… Or is it? For Donovan, Mya, Eric, Shelby, Veronica and Darius, their guess is as good as anyone else’s. With the Love Sessions workshop behind them, life goes on for the group that reminded others the significance of marriage vows. Now, together they face another important lesson – rediscovering the meaning of love. Donovan and Mya Sinclair’s marriage might appear intact, but something is amiss behind closed doors. Eric and Shelby West battled through their share of storms before, but Shelby refuses to let anything disturb their household again even if her husband invites it into their home. Veronica and Darius Brooks quietly divorced two years ago hoping to close a fifteen-year chapter in their lives, but it’s hard to bury the past when reminders of it pop up every day. While Mya is determined to figure out how to fix the issues in her own marriage, it just might help a few people along the way while bringing old friends back together once again. And Then is the follow up to The Love Sessions, a novel in the Love Sessions series by Tia Kelly featuring: Love’s Rebound, Give Me You, Save Me From You and The Love Sessions.

"Every writer I know has trouble writing." ~Joseph Heller

**************************************

This time of year provides a lot of distractions to keep us away from our writing.  Take time to enjoy the season, but keep up the writing habit. I hope these potential markets will inspire you:

Arrow Publications has been in business since 1989. They produce a series of romantic graphic novels, as well as non-graphic novels in ebook form.

Don't Grow Old Alone

Reblogged from Synithia Williams:

The fun thing about getting to know a new person, is the possibility that they’ll say something you never expected. Usually, people don’t expect me to say that I write romance novels. And after two years of working hard at this, I’m no longer shy about letting that part of my personality out. Well, the other day I was talking to a male security guard and he said something unexpected.
