Said words in many places,
answered questions across this
country, sat alone before you
in shopping malls and
old theaters, giant churches,
and prestigious universities
I would have never been
accepted into when I was younger,
still fresh and searching.

Answered questions, shook hands,
hugged you all with genuine arms,
and learned more from you
then you from me.

All these places, all these words,
all these faces, and I came
to know one thing:

we all wish to be understood,
we all wish to be heard,
we all wish just one moment
of connection.

and lean to one side,
speak of time and its passing,
tell you how long I’ve waited,
the years I spent wishing
and filled with a hope that never
had a reason to stay.

Over I lean, and to the other side,
plant a kiss beneath your ear
and speak to you of place,
of all the life in all the far off
worlds we will see,
of the light we will chase
