In the middle, just once I want to be met,
spent my whole life going all the way
for any thing I’ve ever wanted,
for anyone that has ever needed
any thing.

All the way there, all the way back,
hands full one way,
arms empty and purposeless
on the return.  

I’ll be damned if I haven’t done
double the distance,
me the round tripper, looking for
some way to be met,
to be given stillness
at the layover.

Explanations don’t provide the justice,
don’t illuminate quite effectively enough,
something more is required,
and so it’s sought after.

Each morning there is a climb,
there is a truth, released like magic
dove after years of black hat
service.  Each morning a climb
from some dark depth within myself,
hand over hand, a ropeless journey
up and over and across,
the only destination is up,
is out.

I have known this place all my life,
decorated it as home this silent
space, never invited anyone in.
This is a host-less place I say,
there, another truth.  

I will find my way to you,
hands and dried blood,
shaking but strong.  It will
take time, and tomorrow
I will need to do it all over
again,

but I will come back up
for you.

Strange things done for love,
haiku carved into apple flesh,

words pinpricked into dying leaves,
then held to light,

for years on years
falling asleep to the sound
