Algorithmic asinine atrocities
bottled broken beauty
canned cliche created by committee,
duplicated drivel driving
egocentric egomaniacs
fabricating false familiarities,
growing gargantuan groups
hocking hoards of hedonistic,
idiotic, indulgent, ironic ideals.
Justify this junkyard justice and
kings of kitsch killing
lonely lovers languishing, lost,
missing meaning, missing magic
never noticed, now nearly
overlooked, often overtly.

Pure poetry, poets presenting pain as
quiet quibbles, quaking,
reaching rare reservations
secret, silent, slumbering soundly,
transforming tender trivialities to truth,
understanding underneath us,
veiled, voracious.
We wish wonderment wouldn’t wash or wane with
xylography, x-ray or xerox,
youthfulness yearning yesterdays,
zigzagging into zealots and zombies.

All these years chasing the light, I think we felt, if for a tiny moment, we had finally caught it. Where you go, wife, I go.

I miss how I was, who I was,
despite the positivity I still find
in myself.  I once was more,
saw things even clearer,
gave more allowances for
the greatness of things,
the beauty inherent.

Is it life or is it me
that paints the haze over
the surfaces these days,
sometimes a thin coat,
whisper transparent
and almost non-existent,
thick other days, a smudge
that makes it all but
opaque.

Tell me where it goes,
where it vanishes to, that
freshness, that purity
I never had to work for.
Tell me I can still be him,
that shining eyed son
of a son.

Under torchlight at the foot of the Cuillans we celebrated. Was all this real? Everything now, in this haze that followed, makes everything then seem like a dream.

You are all going to get very sick of our wedding photos and I am entirely ok with that.

Broken hearted, I look backwards, can’t call
this melancholy, it’s more, it’s some profound
sadness that runs deeper than Autumn’s
usual pains.  Life started again when the leaves
first fell, each year over and again
some cycle repeated and turned over
and brought forth again, we were new
and free to reinvent.

Backwards, I look, and see myself in the backseat
of a beat up old car, I see snowfall in slow motion
I feel the heater and know warmth like I will not
again.  Aimless nights on roads with no
streetlights, the expiration only when one
had a curfew, some time to sneak back into
the house they’d always called home.

God it feels so close, these moments, that life.
I can so nearly touch it, feel the heater blowing
too hot, the coat collar still high against
the freeze I’d step out into.  I can hear those words,
the goodbye that felt seismic but now I know
was not.  Distractionless, free, every vein opened
to every moment that would come.

Backwards, I look.
