Twice the man
you’d need if you
said you needed more,
fighter man, if you
asked for strength.
I’d punch these knuckles
into chalk and blood
and paint you an apology
with the soft pastel of
my rage, watch it darken
as it dried.
Half the man
you’d need if you
said you needed less,
give you a black hole
of some imploded star
if you made two hints
about needing space,
peaceful man,
if you asked for tenderness,
turn this cheek
and offer you that one,
then back until I was
the sunset purple
of bruises before
healing.

Saw on the news yesterday that @hallmarkchannel pulled multiple commercials featuring kissing and love between LGBTQ couples, because they were flagged as “indecent” after some massive petition was signed by some ignorant group called One Million Moms. First I was mad, then I was sad, as those million moms have at the very least one million kids and those million kids are being raised with fear, not love, prejudice, not understanding, and it breaks my heart. So, in honor of those, including @hallmarkchannel and the One Million Moms who find LGBTQ couples celebrating love “indecent” here are 10 more beautifully indecent moments that I hope scare the absolute shit out of you because you’ll never have anything half as joyful. Happy Holidays, and if you needed another reason to turn your damn TV off and never watch a Hallmark movie again, consider this it.

It’s in the eyes and it always has been,
the creases at the corners,
like crows landed, time or two,
and my skin was snowfall,
or sand.
Flip on through the photographs
of who I was before you,
of all those stuck
with all those they shouldn’t be,
and look to the eyes.
You can fake a thing with a smile,
show teeth and hope for illusion,
but it’s in the eyes
and always has been.
