I grew up without brothers, the middle child between sisters, I grew up surrounded by women and have always related better to them than men. Along the way, a few became the brothers I never had, but always needed, and at our wedding they were by my side. I wouldn’t be me without them now, from Greg who I have known since I was 4 and IS family, to my brothers-in-law that joined the family when they met my sisters and take such exquisite care of them, to Edgar, the man who came from Cuba to America and carries so much joy, to Ash, the poet and fellow Aspie who is quick to laughter, to Gregory, my spirit brother who provides the soundtrack to so many days. I struggle to relate to men, but these make it effortless, and I love them all. Thank you, gents, for standing beside me.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! Do not forget your lonesome years, but my goodness, celebrate your joy.

I won’t forget the years
I was lonesome,
the forlorn smile faked
as an unwrapped gift I gave
to all those who worried
of me. I won’t forget the
way Christmas lights blur
and become rainbow
when eyes swell with tears
and snowfall hangs
on some quiet drive home
from some full house of
festivity and warmth.
Sadness is a barbed hook,
reminds you of itself
long after its been removed,
and I will not forget those years.
Now, I’ll reach across the space
between the seats,
across the mattress,
over the small pile of
wrapping paper and ribbon,
and hold your hand like
some dreamed of thing
but I will not
forget.

Happy Christmas. I will say this, as I know it to be true: If you wait, if you believe with all your heart that you are deserving of love, of a life that sets your soul on fire, it will come to you. It may hurt, it may tear your heart into pieces, but there is light at the end of that tunnel, and it explodes like flame and spark, it warms the same. So much endurance to come to here, to a Christmas morning with my wife @sarahlinden , and every ounce of ache was worth it. Happy Christmas, and for those of you still waiting, hold on. Hold on.

Everyone’s a seed
planted somewhere
after the meeting
some are watered
with lust others disdain
some deep beneath
the soil that grew hard
and surface cracked,
some half a fingerprint
down, slight breeze
to threaten them, blow
them off before root
can take
some bloom, blossom
and seek out sun,
single flower brave
in the uncurling,
some take root
and spread,
some become
forests.

I thought myself
torn in half
or close to it
between loving
with every atom
in every drop
of myself,
and being totally
and completely
exhausted
by people.
Realized
it’s almost always
both,
at the exact same
time.
