Suffering
Pain is inevitable; suffering is optional.
Suffering is dwelling, holding on, not letting go. There’s a choice, that’s why its optional. When we realize we’re suffering, we can choose to think, feel and dwell on something else. In contradiction to the hundreds of eggs that spawn a fish or the endless cells that blossom to heal a wound, the mind cramps and hurts when we hold to the one that got away, the one thing we think we must have. In truth, we and the world thrive on endless possibilities. Let go, enter the mystery and be born again.

(Apologies to Trump cult members. Please wake up! You’re drinking the cool aid!)
What’s the difference between Donald Trump and a dirty diaper?
None, they’re both self-absorbed and full of sh*t!
Why did Trump’s brain cross the road to get to the other side? Oh wait, there is no other side.
What do you call the only Trump supporter to follow his orders to obstruct justice? Attorney General William Barr!
Four people on a plane that’s crashing with only 3 parachutes: Rodger Stone, Obama, a little girl and, Trump. Stone grabs one and says, “I’m famous I get one.” Trump grabs one and says, “Well I’m president. Of course I get one.” Obama looks at the little girl and says, “Since you’re the future take the last one.” The little girl hugs Obama and says, “Actually we can both have one Trump took my backpack”

Thrive
Am I thriving? Are you? Why? Why not?
There’s an exuberance to the word/concept that I only occasionally experience. I’d like to experience it more often. I think my habitual way of thinking and doing hold me back. I think I’ve tried to contain the infinite in a point of view, reduce the eternal to the temporal.
Yes, the eternal is present now, in and around me, but my experience of it is not all there is. Perhaps if I surrender my littleness…. The Course says, “Resign as your own teacher you’ve been badly taught.”

Little Deaths Prevent Big Deaths
Everything dies – leaves, cells in our bodies, egg shells, even rules, concepts and the Truth. It’s how new growth emerges. It’s how Life renews itself. Stubbornly holding on, refusing to let go and go with the flow, kills us. The fear that there’s nothing growing underneath feeds despair and keeps us holding on to what needs to die. Little deaths prevent big deaths.

Knowing the Difference, Part II
It’s not merely ‘political’. There’s a direct relationship between your vote and what happens to people’s lives all over the world. There are facts and consequences and labeling them ‘fake news’ doesn’t change them or make them go away.
It’s not a game where one team wins and another loses – think of leaving or allies the Kurds undefended, or doing nothing to Putin for sabotaging our elections and putting targets on the backs of our soldiers – it’s life, death and misery – think of the thousands of children separated from their families on the border (Republican defense – Obama did it too. Well, it was wrong then, too). Think of the negligent Federal response to Covid and people dying alone. (Obama left a plan to deal with this kind of crisis.)
Distinguishing the man from the office is not only essential it is humane and patriotic. And remember, what the man as President does, is done in your name and mine.
The media could help us distinguish the man from the office. So, America, you and me, pull 12,000 troops from Germany (think Putin likes that?) to punish Merkel who he hates, and the media goes to the Secretary of Defense, a Trump minion, and asks why and he comes up with a neat sounding explanation. Or, the President acting in our name sends ‘Federal agents’ to Portland and other Democratic-governed cities (as a political move?) and the media goes to Barr and asks for an explanation.
The media ought to quit screwing around and go to a psychiatrist and ask why is Trump punishing Merkel and Democratic cities and abandoning the Kurds or wanting to destroy children brought here as infants – DACA? The media also might want to go a bit deeper into the hearts and minds of Trump and Republican supporters (such as you who are denying this) and highlight their prejudice, fear and hatred.

Knowing the Difference, Part I
There is a very flawed man in the White House.
Somehow, with the help of our common sense, life experience and reliable information we must come to see that.
The current occupant of the White House has the title of President of the United States, but not the character, mental and emotional capabilities, skills nor abilities of a President of the United States.
We must – in our thinking – separate that very flawed individual from the role of the President of the United States.
The role of the President, its duties and responsibilities, are due honor and respect. The current incumbent is not. Somehow we must become able to distinguish the man from the role.
It used to be that when the President said something, it was worth considering. That is not true now, nor has it been for the last three years. We have to become able to distinguish what Trump says from what the role of the President requires of us.
For example, the latest of a long line of pronouncements: Maybe we should consider postponing voting in November. Another: Maybe we should take hydroxy chloroquine.
Should we consider these things because the President of the United States is saying them? Or should we realize that Trump is saying them?
This separation is difficult, but essential. Consider what four more years of this person will do for our Nation and the world. Are we better off now, then we were four years ago?

Trump (Again, hoping his cult will awaken)
Hey wanna hear a racist joke?
Donald Trump.
Somebody told me to go to hell so I walked up to Donald Trump.
What did Trump rename the Presidential plane?
Answer: Hair Force One!
There is a new kind of jock strap, it only holds one nut. It is called a trump supporter.

Letter to the Editor
Four college kids were killed at Kent State and I don’t know how many wounded.
Shot to death, not by criminals, but by their fellow citizens, many their own age, wearing the uniform of their country. I wonder if I would have shot those kids if I was there in uniform. Would I have considered that, yes, they were perhaps breaking the law, but did that merit shooting them to death?
I wonder if the so-called ‘government agents’ in Portland, Americans all, attacking their fellow American alleged law breakers, ask themselves that question. Or, perhaps, as so many Germans did during Hitler’s rule, simply content themselves with the criminal or illegal label, that violence and murder against illegals is fine. After all, the perps gave up their humanity when they crossed the line into illegality, right?
Were these so-call ‘government agents’ acting in the name of my government and your government when they took off their name tags, insignia and other forms of identification, wore masks to hide their faces and slammed our fellow citizens into unmarked vehicles? And who authorized and ordered that?
Don’t we expect those authorized to use force in our name to meet a higher standard? Or is it simply OK to fight fire with fire, illegality with illegality? Where does this kind of thing end…in Nuremberg?

You are as the power we call ‘God’ created you.
So is everything you perceive, regardless of their appearances.
I’m OK with the first line, but not so much the second. The second line only makes sense if my perceptions are made using the same power that created me.
So, what I experience as sickness, pain, stress, suffering, weakness and loss is but the misuse of that power.
While all the compassion, peace, joy, radiant good health and abundance are a better use of that power.
Are cancer, war, injustice, Republicans and Trump somehow my choice? How deep must the shift in mind go to have less or none of this? From ego to spirit.
