Victim/Victimizer

If I see myself as victim, it’s clear someone or something else did it to me and will pay the price.  Victimized suffering points the finger. Giving up being a victim is a difficult change. After all, my entire existence is based on victimhood: I did not choose to be born; nor have the body, personality and problems I have. It was my genes and environment…right? Up to a point. Giving up being a victim is a difficult change, but the most empowering. Now, being mindful, I can choose to experience life differently; as a co-creator.

Just Being by Mark Nepo

I tried so hard, I never realized no one was watching.

Now, sometimes at night, when the dog is asleep and the owl is beginning to stare into what no one ever sees, I stand and feel the honey of night spill off the stars, coat the earth, the trees, and feel the stillness evaporate all notions of fame into the unwatched space that waits for light. In this undistorted silence, the presence of God is a kiss.  Mark Nepo.

Labor Day

How appropriate Labor Day falls on Mindful Monday. For this day, like Veterans Day and Memorial Day, are meant for solemn remembrance, not only barbecues, bars, beaches and sales.

The history of the USA is replete with glory, brutality, hypocrisy, sacrifice and accomplishment. This moment the culmination of that history. What are we to remember? What are we to do to honor and celebrate those remembrances?

Yes, a part of it can be barbecues, bars, beaches and sales. But what about the rest? Can what we do today include a minute or two of reflection, about how well our lives and how we plan to vote, or not vote – which is definitely a dishonor, honor the best in American history and atone for the worst?

The Fork in the Road

As Yogi Berra said, “When you come to a fork in the road, take it.”

Can’t go straight ahead – doing the same old thing. Which way to turn? To stay is to go nowhere. The way you came no longer matters. It no longer serves. No part of Life’s journey is more hopeless and futile than standing where the road forks and not choosing which way to go.

The choice for compassion, blessing and inclusion, for a world that works for everyone and everything is always present. Spirit Tech can help you choose it.

Friday Funnies

Friday Funnies

(Apologies to Trump cult members. Please wake up! You’re drinking the cool aid!)

Donald Trump is the weak man’s vision of a strong man.

Donald Trump is honest in his own way. He is honestly an egomaniacal billionaire.

Donald Trump has had several foreign wives. It turns out that there really are jobs Americans won’t do.

Teddy Roosevelt spoke softly and carried a big stick; Donald Trump speaks loudly and carries a big shtick.

Wabi-Sabi

Part of the ancient Japanese Tea Ceremony it means embracing the beauty of imperfection with an awareness of the impermanence of life.

In Coaching I say, ‘don’t should on yourself.’ Accept yourself as you are. It’s how you ‘should’ be. It’s the most recent station in your learning and evolution. But it’s not the end of the line. The wrinkles, fine lines, blemishes, stretch marks and scars are part of the natural beauty of living. They make you unique and precious.

As Leonard Cohen says, “There’s a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.” Let the light in and move on.

Lost

I’m only lost if I’m going someplace particular. My image of a destination is only a starting point. The more narrow my intention/goal the more late, left behind and rushed I feel. It’s possible to feel like every moment carries a mysterious treasure I’m meant to find.

“I’m voting for Trump because he speaks his mind.”

Well, so does my two year old. It doesn’t mean she’s right for office.

Trump became president with no political experience but I need a masters and 5 years experience for an entry level job.

Donald Trump is what happens when you tell a child all his ideas are special.

Donald Trump proving you don’t have to be poor to be white trash.

Trump says nobody will be a better president than him. He’s right. Having nobody as president would be better.

Suffering 2 (Note to myself.)

Sadness, disappointment and regret are part of it. They too have to be experienced and digested. They too are used by the heart. They too are gateways to creativity, imagination and a fuller experience of living. Accept them. Fear them not.
