Knowing the Difference, Part I

There is a very flawed man in the White House.

Somehow, with the help of our common sense, life experience and reliable information we must come to see that.

The current occupant of the White House has the title of President of the United States, but not the character, mental and emotional capabilities, skills nor abilities of a President of the United States.

We must – in our thinking – separate that very flawed individual from the role of the President of the United States.

The role of the President, its duties and responsibilities, are due honor and respect. The current incumbent is not. Somehow we must become able to distinguish the man from the role.

It used to be that when the President said something, it was worth considering. That is not true now, nor has it been for the last three years. We have to become able to distinguish what Trump says from what the role of the President requires of us.

For example, the latest of a long line of pronouncements: Maybe we should consider postponing voting in November. Another: Maybe we should take hydroxy chloroquine.

Should we consider these things because the President of the United States is saying them? Or should we realize that Trump is saying them?

This separation is difficult, but essential. Consider what four more years of this person will do for our Nation and the world. Are we better off now, then we were four years ago?
