My Sexy Saturday ~ Week 40 ~ @MySexySaturday

Welcome to the 40th week of My Sexy Saturday.

What happens when we’re having no sexy? When our characters are too tired, too ill or just not in the mood. We realized even though we talk about the sexy and doing the sexy and everything sexy, sometimes that just doesn’t enter the picture. Sometimes it is truly about the love between two people when the sexy fails them for some reason. One of the best songs ever to represent this stance has to be from the movie Notting Hill called When You Say Nothing At All.

This is an unsex-filled scene but very loving excerpt from My Mr. Manny

“Baby, I, uh . . .” My heart began beating triple time. The words were on the tip of my tongue but wouldn’t come out.

“What is it? What’s wrong?” Concerned, Dominic wrapped his hand around mine and squeezed.

“I just want you to know how thankful I am for having you in my life. And I want you to know how much I love you.” My voice cracked. I sat there gazing into his eyes, waiting for a reaction. The nervousness bubbled inside me, and if he didn’t say something soon, I was either going to laugh or cry. I was betting on crying.

I wasn’t sure if I was sharing my feelings with Dominic too soon or not, but it made me feel like an emotional mess. I tended to feel everything so fiercely; it didn’t matter the emotion, I wore my feelings on my sleeve for all to see and I’d release each one in an outburst. And then, after the outburst, I would wonder if I had overreacted because I had never been able to judge for myself. I felt an overwhelming love for Dominic, and I needed him to know. He was always so giving of himself that I wanted to give him something of me in return.

His hands cradled my face, and he looked deep into my eyes. Never had I spoken words so sincere, and he saw that.

“I love you, too. So very much.” I felt the vibration of those loving words pitter-patter against my mouth. His eyes were closed tight when his lips touched mine once again. “Thank you,” he cried, his voice cracking.

His hands went to my shoulders, and he pulled me close to him, wrapping me in an embrace. I buried my face in his chest and slid my arms around his back. Dominic crashed his lips to mine and kissed me with all he had. His hands wrapped around my head, cradling my skull as if he was afraid I would back away. I would never have considered it, so I matched his passion and then doubled it. I wrapped my hands around his shoulders, pulling him closer to me.

Sneak Peek Sunday ~ Surreal (The Divine Trilogy) by R.E. Hargrave

sneakpeeksunday

Coming 2014 … the highly anticipated conclusion to R.E. Hargrave’s The Divine Trilogy: Surreal

“Ms. Hargrave has a talent for weaving a story that many would consider too much and making it just right. The character development, the scenes, the emotions, it is all there.” ~Amazon Reviewer

Please enjoy this exclusive sneak peek*
(which is safe for all readers):

“Do you want kids?”

Erin almost dropped the wooden spoon she was using to push their eggs around the pan while they cooked. Did she? Maybe as a young girl with grand visions of what her future would entail she had. However, since Dr. Ellison, Holly, had confirmed the damage to Erin’s insides, she hadn’t allowed herself to think about it.

Composing herself, she placed the spoon on the little bell pepper-shaped plate meant for such things, and turned to him. “Where’s that coming from?”

While Erin watched, Jayden reddened then looked away nervously.

“I’ve been doing some thinking since our visit with Ronnie and Steph. You’re always so good with their twins. A natural. It makes you glow in a way I can’t.”

Swoon. Desire flared within her, a bright flash of heat that settled to a low simmer while his words sank in. Was he saying he might want kids? But, she couldn’t give him that.

Holly said “Possibility,” not a definite “No.”

“What are you saying, A rúnsearc?”

When his deep brown eyes met hers again, they were filled with determination. “I want to be the one to put that kind of look on your face, Erin. More than that, though, I want to know what it is to experience that kind of happiness and contentment—with you.”

Was he kidding her with this? He was asking something beyond her physical capability. Sure, Erin, and you didn’t think you’d live to survive Spencer either. Look at you now.

“Breathe, sweet girl. I’ve got you.”

She’d started gasping for air and hadn’t realized it. Now, Jayden’s arms were wrapped around her, applying just enough pressure to make her feel safe, but not trapped.

“I’m not saying we have to. I know we have obstacles to overcome if we decide to try. Guess what I’m trying to say is—well, I just wanted you to know . . . if you want kids . . . then I do, too. We can figure the rest out.”

If you haven’t started this BDSM erotica series yet, here’s where you can get the first two books:

To Serve is Divine (Book 1) I  A Divine Life (Book 2)

*This excerpt is unedited, and subject to change for final publication.

R.E. Hargrave lives on the outskirts of Dallas, TX where she prides herself on being a domestic engineer. Other hobbies include gardening and a love of a music.

A native ‘mutt,’ Hargrave has lived in New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Alabama, Texas, and California. She is fond of setting her stories on location in South Carolina and Texas, but its anybody’s guess as to what the genre will be!

Sneak Peek Sunday ~ Out of the Darkness by April Emerson

Out Of the Dark
By April Emerson

Summary:

Everyone makes choices in life. Carina Porter has made the wrong one. After graduating
from college, she sits beneath her complimentary blanket in first class dreaming of what’s
in store for her when she lands in Italy. Having always thought of other’s first, she has
resolved to experience an indulgent adventure. Finally free from the demands of her
collegiate studies, she’s determined to break away from her sensible nature and take risks.
Her daydreams are interrupted when a handsome and much older man sits beside her.
Stefan is dashing and she gets swept away in tales of his family and vineyard. After a
brief courtship, she makes a reckless choice- to marry a man she hardly knows. Carina
believes she’s in love, but in time she learns how cold-hearted Stefan really is.
Carina befriends Bianca, Stefan’s maid, and discovers that things are not as they seem at
Savano vineyard. Carina seeks answers but finds more questions. It seems everyone on
the estate keeping a secret. When Stefan’s mother becomes ill, he and Carina move to the
family vineyard in the small town of Ravine Creek.
It is there that Carina meets Enzo Savano, Stefan’s nephew. Carina is drawn to his kind
and free-spirited nature. She fights against her traitorous feelings for him, but their
forbidden attraction grows each day. Carina is faced with her own family tragedy and the
only person there for her in her time of need is Enzo.
After fighting against their feelings for as long as they can, Carina and Enzo begin a
heated affair. Their passion blooms, taking root in their hearts, and Carina must choose
between the safety of existing in an unhappy marriage, or life filled with love beside
Enzo. Her decision will not only destroy a family, it may even be fatal.

Teaser:

“Thank you for this. You were right. I needed to eat.” I wipe my mouth with a napkin.

Enzo picks French fries off my plate without asking and dips them in my ketchup. It doesn’t bother me one bit.

“Do you feel better?” he asks.

I speak from my heart, looking him right in the eye. “I always feel better when I’m with you.”

He smiles but says nothing. I watch as he cleans up our dinner, rolling the room service cart into the hallway. I sit on the edge of the bed, legs together, feet dangling in the air. I watch him walk back to me. I feel like I should leave, but I know I’m not going to. I want him to come closer and he does. He walks toward me until he’s standing right in front of me. I look up at him, and then he drops to his knees.

My gaze follows his and with him kneeling before me, his eyes are even with mine. He places his hands on the bed beside me. Our bodies are not touching . . . but I want them to be. Pieces of me are screaming out for him to get closer. Desire runs hot in my blood. My heart pounds and my breath quickens, but all he does is look at me. I want him. I want to kiss him but he’s just kneeling there staring at me. Completely hypnotized, I can’t look away from his gaze. The air between us is heavy, and the anticipation of what’s about to happen is suffocating and thrilling at the same time. Sensing my poignant desire, he leans closer and his hips press against my knees.

“Spread your legs,” he whispers.

It’s not a demand or a question. It’s just what we both want. I do as he says and his waist fits between my knees. His suit pants brush against my stockings and make a rustling sound. He touches my shoulders, then my neck, then my face. His lips wrap around mine. My legs tangle around his waist and my arms snake around his neck as he kisses me. I pull his face closer. His lips are soft but aggressive. Our mouths open and melt together, and I feel his hot breath against my cheek.

He pushes me down on to the bed, and I can feel him. He’s hard where I’m soft and wet. I feel it through our clothing. Ripples of chills run through me. He slides up and down against me as we kiss, and we moan together at the pleasure and heat rising and growing between us. I want him so badly, but he stops our kiss. With his arms at either side of my face, he looks down at me, but his hips keep moving. His hardness keeps sliding and grinding between my legs, against my body where I most want to feel it. His eyes narrow as he moves, and he inhales and then sighs. I bring my hands up and run them over his jaw, through his hair, over his head, and down his shoulders. I begin to unbutton his shirt. My mouth falls open as he rubs against me faster. I don’t care if it’s wrong. I want him inside me. I pull him down so I can kiss him again. Our tongues touch and withdraw as I hold his face, and his hands explore my body. My arms, my breasts, the back of my thighs, my neck. My skin knows that his hands are new and different. It’s exhilarating. We kiss deeply as he moves against me, and my skin is on fire. I push the straps of my dress down. I want to feel his body, naked.

THE 2014 OUR WRITING PROCESS BLOG HOP

Writer’s write, that’s what we do.
Find out why and how in this new Blog Hop for 2014:
Thanks so much to Amy Vastine  for inviting me to join this blog hop. The hop hops on!

divider graphics

1) What am I working on right now?
I’m currently working on two different books right now. Just Rewind , a New Adult Romance, takes us on a journey of how PTSD can destroy lives. Wanting to go home, yet not knowing how to live as a civilian again, and believing that the new you is not worthy of love. Francisco Javier has a lot of people that love him, but he needs to let them in, especially the only girl he’s ever loved, the one he met when he was six years old.

And, This Life , an Urban Fantasy with a touch of Romance, is about Angel, an L.A. gang banger, who will do anything for his gang “family” and has nothing to lose, or does he? He pretty much loses everything, goes to jail, and gets caught up in this Dante’s Divine Comedy type scenario. This is very different than anything I’ve ever written.

2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?
Well, I think all my works differ from each other in general, so it’s hard to say. I think both, My Mr. Manny and In My Mother’s Footsteps are both very heartwarming, fluffy type books. The type of book one might need after they’ve read a particularly wonderful angsty book. But these two new stories I’m working on are a bit more raw.

3) Why do I write what I do?
I write the stories that come to me. I write to entertain, to share joy, love, a few tears, and an experience. I want my readers to walk away feeling things. I love Happy Endings and try to put one in every story I write, as long as it fits the story. I write because even if one reader tells me how much they loved my book and how much it touched them, then I feel like it’s worth continuing.

4) How does my writing process work?
I’m a mind writer. An idea usually begins to form in my mind, and I work it over and over, by coming up with a location and a cast of characters. Then I flesh out the plot, but this all happens in my head. It starts out with flickering pictures, then turns into short videos, until it’s a full movie with most of the story clear and visual. Then I break it down into little scenes again, so I can flesh those out and begin writing them down. It’s a long process, which means I need a lot of alone time so I can be with my thoughts.

Well, there you have it. I hope you’ve enjoyed learning a little more about me. I hope you check out these three lovely authors below next Friday on their blogs. They will be answering these same questions. Trust, you’ll want to check out what they’re working on.

Until next time,

XO
Jennifer

About the Author
There are many profiles that detail the author’s lifelong dream of authorship being realized with the publication of their first novel or short story.  This is not one of those profiles.
To make an exceedingly odd story moreso, Sandi Layne had no wish to be a writer, but went through a storyline bootcamp in the form of strange dreams for a month and took careful notes.  Fifteen years later, she’s still writing stories that veer slightly off the beaten path, both in Christian and historical fiction.
Married for more than twenty years to a very tolerant (and brilliant!) man, she has two sons, no pets, and a plethora of imaginary friends.  Her interests range from ancient civilizations to science fiction for both reading and research.  With degrees in English and Ministry, she also claims Theology’s crimson Masters collar which she has been known to don on rare occasions.
If you drive by her window before dawn, it is likely she’ll have a light on for you. Or at the very least, she’ll be alert on twitter.  She invites you to visit her online space at http://sandyquill.com. Bring coffee.

About the Author

Sherri spent most of her childhood detesting English class. It was one of her least favorite subjects because she never seemed to fit into the standard mold. She wasn’t good at spelling, or following grammar rules, and outlines made her head spin. For that reason, Sherri never imagined becoming an author.

At the age of thirty, all of that changed. After getting frustrated with the direction a television show was taking two of its characters, Sherri decided to try her hand at writing an alternate ending, and give the characters their happily ever after. By the time the story finished, it was one of the top ten read stories on the site, and her readers were encouraging her to write more.

Six years later, Sherri is the author of six full-length novels, and one short story. Writing has become a creative outlet for Sherri that allows her to explore a wide range of emotions, while having fun taking her characters through all the twists and turns she can create. She is most well known for her Finding Anna Series about a young woman rescued from being a sex slave by a wealthy Dominant. The third book in that series, Truth, released July 25, 2013.

A Work in Progress

bcd18-excerpt
Don’t you wish you could just rewind time,
and go back to when things were simple,
people were unchanged,
and we still believed in fairytales?

Harlie. JustRewind

“She fell off the swing from way up high. I saw it all. She landed on her face and says her arms hurt. She needs a doctor.” With a flurry of movement, several more adults surrounded. But my eyes kept going back to the boy’s. They were my safe place.
“What’s your name?” I asked, my breath coming out in gasps while the pain throbbed in my arms and chest.
“Francisco Javier. Yours?”
“Harlie,” I said. His hand smoothed my hair back and told me I’d be all right.
“Listen, here comes the ambulance. See, you’ll be just fine. They’ll take you to the hospital and get you fixed up.” And I replayed his words over and over as they hauled me off to the emergency room and put a cast on both of my arms.

???????????????????????????????????????

“Harlie, why are you here?”
Her blonde hair hung in two braids out of her straw hat. She wore a black T-shirt and a pair of painted on jeans with a pair of very worn, light brown cowboy boots. She looked beautiful and more mature. The lines on her face were more defined and less baby-like.
“My job.” She flicked her blue eyes up and I saw the moisture in them.
“Well, your job is done. Go home, there’s no need for you to come back either. I’m home now.” So much anger was built up inside me, and I just so happened to throw it at this poor innocent girl that did not deserve it at all. However, I couldn’t find it in me to stop.
“Hey, she’s more than welcome here. You can’t just come home after four years and boss us around.” Came the voice of my sister, Lupita, from behind me. She was the same age as Harlie, a year younger than me. They were thick as thieves since they started Kindergarten together.
“Fine.” I moved toward Whiskey, grabbed the curry brushes from Harlie’s hands, and stepped between her and my gelding. “There’s no need for her to be touching my horse.”
“You know, you’re an ungrateful jerk! She’s been here almost everyday since you’ve been gone taking care–”
“Lupita, come on, let’s go.” Harlie didn’t let her finish speaking and grabbed her by the arm leading her toward the main house.

Sneak Peek Sunday ~ Wraith Series

Sneak Peek Sunday

In Shadow BoundWraith readers met Jane Watts. Seventeen and scared. Her classmates thought she was a freak and her best friend was a ghost. With the help of the school’s resident bad boy, Connor Jacobs, she found a way to find a balance between the living in the dead, while almost losing her own life.

In Shadow Bound Jane found herself with both a real life boyfriend and best friend, but struggled with the weight of her family “gift.” As she learned more about her abilities the more she encountered the dark side of death–and what it does to the people you love.

On February 18th the Wraith Series comes to a gripping end.

Strong.

Loyal.

Independent.

These aren’t the words Jane ever expected to use to describe herself, but in the years since she first began seeing ghosts things have changed. A lot. Jane has spent the last two years losing one person after the other. Both dead and alive. But this year things will be different. She’s entering her freshman year of art school, rooming with her best friend Ava and has a new boyfriend. Oh, and she’s no longer afraid that she’s Shadow Bound with a direct connection to ghosts. In fact, she’s learned to use her abilities for her benefit.

Jane soon discovers she can’t walk away from her past. The wounds from her battle with Charlotte are deep and no matter what she tells herself, the break up with Connor weighs heavy on her heart. Balancing these emotions prove to be a weakness for her and Jane finds herself in a fight against the most dangerous spirits she’s encountered yet.

Grave Possession

The buzzing razor grazed over my ear, sending vibrations across my scalp, down to my jaw. Each pass felt like a weight being lifted.

Ava smiled from the chair next to mine, swiveling back and forth. When the next hunk of hair fell to the ground, she gave me a thumbs up. I smiled back nervously, hoping her encouragement was a good thing because I wasn’t facing the mirror and, really, why did I even think this was a good idea?

“It looks awesome,” Ava said the minute the razor snapped off. “Seriously.”

“It really does,” the stylist said. “Ready?”

“Yes,” I said. They couldn’t see my hands under the cape. They were latched to the arms of the chair, fighting off the panic, because holy crap, what had I done?

She spun my chair toward the mirror on the wall and I got the first look of my new hairstyle.

“Isn’t it amazing?” Ava asked. She stood and ran her fingers over the short-clipped hair over my ears. The rest of my hair had been pulled back in a ponytail, giving the appearance of a mohawk.

I turned my head back and forth to get the best view. I wanted something different and I got it. My hair had grown out over the last two years, since I’d cut it off in a fit of anxiety and panic. It now hung down past my shoulders to the middle of my back, but I wanted something new. Something to start off the next phase of my life.

“You look badass.” Ava’s face popped into the mirror. “Perfect for college.”

I broke into a grin, turning my head side to side, checking out the new look. The new me. “Freshman year is gonna rock.”

*

Phase two involved hot pink hair dye. Just a couple of streaks down the back. Ava left after the bleaching process, leaving me with four copies of People magazine and a lot of questions about who, exactly, picked the Sexiest Man Alive.

“Five minutes,” Suzie the hairdresser said, pulling the domed hair dryer over my head. She left me alone in the drying area, a room painted neon green. Everything had a sickly glow.

A shadow crossed the front window and I looked up in time to see the woman pass by again. It was her third attempt to come inside, but she obviously hadn’t gotten the hang of it yet. I lifted the dryer, ceasing the dull roar of air and said, “Suzie, do you mind if I step outside for some fresh air?”

“Hurry and be careful with the foils.”

“I will.”

I pushed open the glass door and found her waiting. A faint blue light radiated from the crown of her graying hair like a halo. Blue. Safe, but disappointing.

“Follow me,” I said to the woman, leading her around the side of the building. “I only have a minute. What’s the problem?”

She stepped forward and I held up my hand. “Don’t come any closer or I’ll leave and won’t help you. Just tell me what’s wrong.”

Helping the woman only took a couple of minutes now that I had a system.

Always stay in public. It’s better to look crazy than dead.
Almost all information can be found quickly on a smart phone. I no longer needed to go home to help these people pass over.
Never make personal attachments to ghosts. I was no longer allowing them to hurt me emotionally or otherwise.
Take my payment in full.

“You need to let go,” I told her. “It’s okay. The cancer finally won.”

“But I never got to see my grandbaby. Did my daughter have her? Is she okay?”

Ah. I glanced at my phone and went against my gut.

“Look, I never read the obituaries. It’s too depressing. But I’ll read the names of the survivors and you let me know if it’s there, okay?”

Hope lit in her faded eyes and she nodded.

“Survived by her two sons, Robert and James, and their wives—“

“It’s my daughter,” she repeated. I skipped ahead.

“One daughter, Karen, age 29, and her three granddaughters, Macy, Ariana and Bridget.”

“Bridget. That’s her.”

“Great,” I said, pushing the phone back in my pocket. “It’s time for you to move on.”

“Thank you.”

“Just one thing,” I said. “Take my hand.”

“What?” she asked, staring at my hand in confusion.

“Take it,” I said, thrusting it toward her.

Tentatively she placed her hand on mine and a surge of energy rushed through my limbs, filling the darkness and pushing the cold that had settled in my bones last year. The relief would be fleeting, but the small hit would hold me over until I could find something more substantial later.

I re-entered the salon and found Suzie waiting for me. She checked her watch. “Don’t blame me if your hair falls out,” she said.

“I won’t.” I settled into the swiveling chair, cheeks rosy in the mirror. “Let’s do this.”

Writing/Reading ~ Sweet, Fluffy Reads

How many of you enjoy reading heart-wrenching books? I do. And although I do enjoy them very much, some leave me hung over and depressed for days.

Like the last book in Valentine series: The Supreme Macaroni Company. It was delicious, heartbreaking, and had me waking up in the middle of the night worrying about the MC. Five days later, I was still a mess.

Honestly, all of Adriana Trigiani’s books will leave you with a little bit of heartache, some more than others, but she always deals with real life issues. Her stories are so rich and fulfilling. The Shoemaker’s Wife was the first book I read of hers, and after that one, I couldn’t run fast enough to her others.

What about The Fault in Our Stars? Heartbreaking but inspirational! I sobbed so hard and used way too many tissues.

So, what is my cure? A sweet, fluffy romance that is easy on the heart but dangerous for my teeth. Or really even something not so angsty.

Anna and the French Kiss Lola and the Boy Next Door (Anna and the French Kiss, #2)Isla and the Happily Ever After

This companion series is very sweet and adorable. The characters feel real and there is no major heartbreak. We are currently waiting for Isla and the Happily Ever After to release.

So, this brings me to the book I wrote. It is a sweet, fluffy romance, and I had no intention of writing it that way. It’s just the way it came out. It started as a journey of a women who was young and chose the wrong path with the wrong man. It was how everything she did in her life, from a little girl to an adult, affected her future. Do mistakes have to ruin one’s life? No, we can come back from things and remake our lives. We don’t have to wallow in our misfortunes, we can get up and get out of our own way.

But somewhere along the way, this beautiful romance bloomed into her second chance. And some might say that a marriage like that is not realistic, but I must say that it is. I have a wonderful husband, yeah, we argue and stuff, but we are happy and still in love after being together for almost 20 years.  Do I love the bad boys with bad pasts that stand in their own way? Yes! Does every story need to be about that? No! There are people that have been through tough times, been hurt and discarded, but still get up and live. Yes, they feel, they cry, and they may blame themselves, but will it stop them from accepting love from someone else? No, not always. So, my point is, people deal with things differently. My characters weren’t afraid to put themselves out there again. And somehow, this adorable romance blossomed from them, because they were willing to give it a shot.

I’d love for all of you to tell me what some of your favorite sweet, fluffy romances are? What’s your go-to story when you have a book hangover?
