Meeting Authors You Love!!

I’ve been reading a lot lately, and I guess that’s why I haven’t been writing much. Well, that and my exhausting day job, which sends me into a coma the moment I walk in the door every night.

But, good news is I’m taking a rare week off to go to Louisville, Kentucky to attend Readers on the River, an event put on by J.R. Ward and 1001 Dark Nights. I’m so excited to be able to meet Ward and Kristen Ashley and a lot of the other authors in attendance. I’ve been to book signings before, even done a few myself, but these authors… and to spend a whole weekend with them… yeah, to me, that’s epic. I cannot wait.

In the meantime, between packing and leaving instructions for my boys, who are staying home and caring for my fur-babies, I’ve been trying to write, plot a book I’ve been working on in my head for a while, and review/edit the production of My Mr. Manny’s audiobook that should be out in a couple of weeks. In My Mother’s Footsteps came out really well, I think, check it out if you haven’t already.

But, really, I just can’t wait to get away, explore a new city, try some Bourbon, hang out with great friends, and meet all of these awesome authors. Follow me on Instagram to see pics of this awesome adventure. @jennfgarcia

Who’s your favorite author that you’d love to meet?

J.R. Ward and Kristen Ashley are my top favorites at this convention, and I’ve become a bit obsessed with Kristen Proby after binge reading her books.

Take a look at RoR’s website and check out who’s attending. Maybe even try to get in on it for next year.

Wish me luck!!

Love and Happiness!

XO

Jennifer

Audiobooks

I know it’s been a long time, but it’s the same old excuse … work, work, work. However, I have been working on getting my books onto audio. In My Mother’s Footsteps was the first to finish. I’m currently editing My Mr. Manny’s audio to be released this month. I’m super excited about this, because, if any of you are like me, I don’t have time to read with my eyeballs much. So, 99% of my reading is via audio. I’m hoping those of you who haven’t had a chance to read my books will give them a chance now with them available through a new platform. Please review them to let me know what you think.

Wanderlust by Lauren Blakely

WanderlustWanderlust by Lauren Blakely

Synopsis:

The first time I met him, his sexy British accent almost talked me into giving him my number on the spot. The second time, he nearly charmed the panties off me with his wit. Then I learned he’s the key to success in my new job in Paris. The man who tempts me into fling-worthy dirty daydreams has turned out to be my personal translator, and his accent is the hottest thing I’ve ever heard.

My mantra is simple — Don’t mix business with pleasure. I do my best to resist him as he teaches me how to converse with my co-workers, navigate the metro and order the perfect bottle of wine at dinner. But I also figure out how to tell the charming and clever man what I most want to say — that I want him to take me back to his flat — tonight.

Except there’s a catch…

***

One more assignment before I take off on my big adventure…

And it involves the toughest work ever — resisting the fetching American woman I spend all my days with. But you know what they say about best intentions. Soon, we’re spending our nights tangled together, and I don’t want to let her go. The trouble is, my wanderlust is calling to me, and before we know it I’ll be traveling the globe to fulfill a promise I made long ago.

What could possibly go wrong with falling in love in Paris? Nothing…unless one of you is leaving.

My rating: 5 of 5 Purple (lavender scented) Macaron stars

Seriously a MUST read!!

Loved. I love all the Blakely books I’ve read, but this one seems to top them all. Destination books seem to be the ones that leave a long-lasting impression on me, and this one definitely did. Paris has always been a place I’d love to visit, but now it’s a must. And, I know I’d explore it in a different way than I would have before reading Wanderlust.

Joy and Griffin were a delight and their banter was so much fun. Watching characters grow in a realistic fashion is so rewarding, and Joy and Griffin truly did in the book. And since 99 % of my reading is done by audio, I have a thing about narrators. Well, Richard Armitage’s voice was panty melting. British accents really are the best. You are so right, Joy.

OK, I also have a love for scents, and now I need a list of perfumes mentioned in the story with their scent descriptions. I am intrigued and need to go out and smell all those listed. Help, Lauren.

The Man in the Black Suit

The Man in the Black SuitThe Man in the Black Suit by Sylvain Reynard

Summary:

Brazilian Acacia Santos excels at her job as concierge at the prestigious Hotel Victoire in Paris. When her senior colleague is attacked and sent to the hospital, she is tasked with serving one of the hotel’s most mysterious and attractive guests.

Nicholas Cassirer checks into the hotel under an assumed name every three months. Usually, he stays in the penthouse suite with a beautiful female companion but on this occasion, he arrives alone and is displeased in having to deal with someone new. A match of wits ensues as he tests Acacia’s expertise with a series of almost impossible demands. Her intelligence and creativity rise to the challenge, earning his respect.

They strike a tenuous accord until Acacia discovers a famous stolen painting in his suite. Compelled to report her discovery, she contacts a former boyfriend who works for the elite BRB, a unit of French law enforcement that deals with stolen art.

Nicholas is questioned by police and released when it is revealed the painting is a reproduction. Irked with her behavior, Acacia’s supervisor demotes her, threatening dismissal and the cancellation of her work permit.

But Acacia has already attracted Nicholas’s attention. Remorseful that she may lose her job on his account, he offers her a choice—she can wait until her supervisor dismisses her, or she can leave the city of lights behind and become his personal assistant.

Acacia initially refuses his offer, but Nicholas is persistent. He reveals himself as a man who quietly acquires stolen art in order to restore it to its rightful owners. Faced with mounting familial debts and the possibility of dismissal and deportation, she agrees to work for him.

Nicholas opens up a whole new world of beauty and intrigue to Acacia as they travel the globe. Soon the line between employer and assistant is blurred, and the two lonely people embark on a passionate relationship.

Secrets and danger abound as Nicholas and Acacia try to solve the mystery of a piece of stolen art. But Acacia may prove to be the most dangerous mystery of all.

Sylvain Reynard has a way of digging deep into one’s soul. Years ago, when I read Gabriel’s Inferno, I was so taken by his description of Florence that when my family and I planned a vacation to Italy, I had to go to Firenze to see it for myself. I chose all the landmarks he discussed and just felt such peace. Anyway, TMitBS seriously makes me want to go to Paris. I love the way he weaves locations and artwork into his stories. Acacia and Nicholas had such a wonderful connection and the trust they had with each other was beautiful. Their journey, a difficult one, was necessary to become their true selves. This was definitely another great from SR. A must read!! Can’t wait to see what comes next.

Review ~ Take Two by Traci Hayden

Take Two: A Picture Perfect Novel Take Two: A Picture Perfect Novel by Traci Hayden

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love stories of personal growth and healing and this tale was all about that. Two beautiful people, inside and out, meet and there’s a spark between them. However there’s a tragedy they need to work through and they do it together. Oh, and there’s an adorable baby involved too … single dad status!

I enjoyed the story and going along for the ride with Beth and Will but felt the ending lacked a bit. There was so much build-up about Beth’s secret and dealing with it that it ended too quickly.

The side characters were well done and a huge part of the story, as it’s told in multiple point of views. But Beth and William were really amazing together. I loved their scenes and wanted more … much more.

Summary:

Beth Huntley, photographer and devoted bachelorette, doesn’t believe in true love. Too much hurt and disappointment has left her hiding behind the camera. All she can see is a black and white world through the lens.

William Lorde, widower and father, was once an open and carefree man. The loss of his wife has left him wrapped up in the needs of his little girl. He can no longer see the colors of the world as he struggles each and every day.

What happens when these two similarly different people meet and help each other to step out of the world they’ve created for themselves? Will they find a love that helps them heal from the past, enjoy their present and create a beautiful future?

Review ~ The Contract by Melanie Moreland

The Contract The Contract by Melanie Moreland

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love it when an author can make me feel so much for the characters, whether good or bad at least you’re invested, right? Well, Ms. Moreland definitely accomplished that in this story. For probably the first 50% of the book, I hated Richard. He was pompous, rude, cold, callous, and extremely self-centered. Katherine, his assistant, ate his crap for a whole year for her own reasons, important reasons. The best part of feeling so much for characters is when you watch them grow and your opinion changes. I’ll let you read it to see who changes and how. It’s all part of the beauty.

I truly didn’t want to put the book down and only had to for dinner. The story captured me and I was dying to know what would happen with these two people, who at first glance were not made for each other. Then, you see it happen and it’s glorious. I mean, just imagine, a marriage contract between two people that absolutely dislike each other so much. What would possess them to want to do that? Well they have their reasons.

The side characters were so well done that even I wanted their approval. They were fun and heart-warming and helped in the overall turn of things.

The ending was beautiful and I wish there was more, but it truly ended in a perfect place. It’s just hard to let the characters go, and I didn’t want to at all.

Summary:

A tyrant by day, a playboy by night. That is the reputation that precedes Richard VanRyan. He lives life the way he wants, no concern for the opinion of others. He cares for no one, is completely unrepentant, and he has no desire to change his ways.

Katharine Elliott works under Richard as his PA. She despises him and his questionable ethics, but endures all the garbage he sends her way, because she needs the job. Her end goal is far more important than the daily abuse and demands she tolerates from her nasty tyrant of a boss.

Until the day, he asks her for something she never expected. A new role with a personal contract — fiancée instead of PA.

What happens when two people who loathe each other, have to live together and act as though they are madly in love?

Sparks.

That’s what happens.

Can the power of love really change a person?

Will they survive the contract?

What do you do when the one person you hate the most becomes the one person you can’t live without?
