What I’m Thankful For in 2018

‘Tis the season to be thankful. There’s just something special about the calendar turning to November. Outside the leaves have fallen and on television the commercials are already counting down to Christmas. But first? It’s time to pause and be thankful. So in honor of this month of thanksgiving, here’s my not-so-short list of things I’m thankful for: A solid foundation of faith and the embrace of Heaven. Nothing beats knowing I’m loved by God.

Dedicated To Those Who Have Gone Before

Yesterday morning, long before the sun came up, I lay in my warm bed listening to sound of ringing bells clanging up and down the streets. Our community is one of the last in Colorado who still commemorate the historic ringing of bells around the world at the end of all world wars. The bells on Veterans Day also serve as a reminder of the dedication and sacrifice of countless Veterans who served to guarantee

A Picture Perfect Christmas: The Road to Publication

A Picture Perfect Christmas releases next week and I can’t wait to share this continuation of Liz and Ryan’s story with the world. If you missed last week’s post about the inspiration behind the book, check it out here. But just because I had a good idea to make my readers happy in the form of a Christmas story, it didn’t mean it would be easy. Between plot brainstorming sessions, I took a serious look

A Picture Perfect Christmas: The Inspiration

Once upon a time, I wrote a book…and readers begged to know what happened next. But that’s not the only reason I wrote A Picture Perfect Christmas. Let’s start at the beginning: The Wardrobe series started with Dani’s search for family in Dance Over Me and I quickly knew that both Liz and Gloria would have their own stories to tell. I thoroughly enjoyed introducing Liz to Ryan in Focus On Love, but especially wanted to

That Time When This (Older) Girl Learned Something New

I’m not a techie. At least not one who gushes over the latest gadget or app and speaks in enough acronyms to impersonate a robot. Yes, I set up my own website, designed the cover for several books, and do most of my writing on my iPad’s Scrivener app using a Bluetooth keyboard. What you don’t know is that I’m a self-made rookie techie by necessity with a lot of trial and error along the

Falling In Love With Books

Fall might be my next favorite season after Spring. I love the rich reds and warm yellows of the changing leaves against the (usually) deep blue of the Colorado sky. Cooler mornings where you can sometimes catch sight of your breath in the air as a brisk wake-up call. Hot spiced apple cider. Actually apple cinnamon anything. After months of T-shirts and shorts, it’s nice to dive into the back of my closet for those

Cover Reveal: A Picture Perfect Christmas

With a title like A Picture Perfect Christmas, I’ve been feeling the pressure to deliver an equally perfect cover. And after an emotional roller-coaster design process, I’m excited to finally share with you the finished product. According to sage wisdom, one shouldn’t judge a book by its cover…except the truth is that while you’re scanning bookshelves on a store or scrolling through search results online, an attractive cover catches your attention first. It’s like the

When Sacrificing Is a Good Thing

Sacrificing is a good thing. I know. I heard the collective groan from within the four walls of my house first. However, no matter how badly we want what we want or how eloquently we state our arguments, getting everything on our wish list is not in our best interests. After all, nobody wants to hang out with a spoiled, entitled brat. (Not to mention the logical reality that I can’t eat all the ice

Living For the Right Applause

Live for the applause of nail-scarred hands. ~ Mark Batterson As an author, it’s easy to get caught up in the quest for more reviews. How long did it take for a book to get over 50 reviews? To cross that important 100-review threshold? And how many stars are those readers giving my books? What is my average star-rating? Plus what are readers saying? Will their reactions help me get more buyers…and improve my sales

Editing My Life

Am I editing my life or is editing my life? Okay. That was a trick question because the correct answer is…both. Last month, instead of jumping into a new writing project, I spent countless hours editing. In fact, in one week’s time, I had my brain immersed in four different stories. First was the opening chapters of my critique partner’s spring release. Then came my own Christmas novella releasing in a few months. Followed by
