Sing a New Song – Meet Gloria Houghton

Gloria quirked a finely plucked eyebrow in Dani’s direction. “Try to keep up.” And so we met the character that more than one reader hated and one reviewer wanted to “purse whomp.” In Dance Over Me, Gloria Houghton stepped onto the stage as the resident star with the handsome boyfriend who somehow felt threatened by the newest actress to join the company…and stirred up trouble In an attempt to oust the newcomer. And then an

What Could Possibly Be Good About Good Friday?

I’m about to celebrate my birthday on Good Friday. And while I’m not about to tell you how many trips this makes around the sun, the ironic juxtaposition of celebrating my life on the same day commemorating Jesus’ horrific execution on a Roman cross was not lost on me. After all, what could possibly be good about Good Friday? Except it’s only because of Good Friday that I’ve experienced true life. This week, sandwiched between

What’s Growing in Your Garden?

Nine years ago, in 2010, I looked outside my front door at my neglected flower beds and started spring cleaning. However, the parallels between that patch of dirt and my personal life were uncanny and my flower-bed frenzy soon sparked a quick series of blog posts comparing aspects of gardening with the disciplines of personal growth. Because life is like a garden complete with seasons of dormancy and growth, preparation and harvest. A winter, spring,

It’s Springtime in the Rockies (I Wish)

My Facebook and Instagram feeds are blooming with hints of Spring from other parts of the country…and then I look out my window and wish it was also Springtime in the Rockies. Except here in Colorado, I can’t help but recall the number of Easter Sundays when we’ve worn winter coats over frilly dresses and the kids hunted eggs in the snow. Even in April. However, even if the weather outside will take its own

It’s Time For a First Quarter Goal Check

Time surely flies when you’re busy writing and editing and taking care of the family. Wasn’t it just January? Ha. Actually, with the calendar about the turn again, it’s time for a first quarter goal check to see how close I came to hitting the target. But before I could start evaluating my progress, I needed to remember what those goals even were! So I jumped back to my “It’s a New Year with New

When Relationship and Faith Go Hand in Hand

My Word for 2019 is Relationship, but during in my quiet time, the concept of Faith kept popping up over and over and over again. Looking back, I can see that it was partially to prepare me for my husband’s job jump by taking a step of faith (see last week’s blog for those details!). But the more I’ve thought about it, I’ve discovered the deeper truth that relationship and faith go hand in hand.

How Do You Know When It’s Time To Take a Leap of Faith?

My husband and I recently took a leap of faith…and in the process, our faith was challenged. For me, I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for the amazing love of God and I wanted to share the experience with all of you, hoping you too find encouragement in whatever situations you are currently facing. First, a little background. My husband is a public school math teacher in a district that is quickly becoming more and more

Never Underestimate Those Angels Watching Over You

“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” ~ Psalm 91:11 NIV A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to escape to the mountains for a writing retreats with several author friends. We’d spend all day working on our various projects and then meet up for dinner to relax and regroup before getting back to work. The isolation away from my dusty house, piles of laundry, and
