Adding Music to the current WIP ~ Finding Home

Thanks to January’s castle-inspired writing retreat, I’ve crossed the halfway point in writing the next installment in my Castle series.  And I have to admit that my current work-in-progress Finding Home has involved more intricate plotting and detailed research than the previous books in the series… Which should mean an even better story for you! But while readers have to wait longer than I’d anticipated for this next title to release, I couldn’t leave you without a glimpse

Who wouldn’t want to stay in a castle right now?

I took this picture just a few days ago while on a writing retreat with a couple author friends. Can you just feel the stories of people who lived within these walls? Of course, this is a “new” castle with a history dating back to the late 1800s, but the setting certainly proved inspirational as I was finally able to make significant headway on the next book in my castle series.  Wrangling a complicated plotline into shape

Announcing my word for 2021: DREAM

Today is the day of Epiphany, the ancient holy day commemorating when the Truth of Jesus was revealed to the three kings/wise men and they presented their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And boy could we use some TRUTH in our nation today! While I’m honestly praying for God’s will to be done in the election outcomes and that He would deliver us and our nation from Evil and the plans of traitors, I’m

Gaining clarity from 2020… Who would have thought it?

In the interest of full disclosure, I’m extremely nearsighted. As in I have to have my hands about two inches from my nose in order to see if there’s lint or stuff on my contact lens before I put the first one in. 20/20 vision has always been a challenge and I’m very thankful for optometrists and contacts that allow me to see the world clearly (if a little smaller) in full peripheral vision (unlike

A Journey to the Past… Uncovering All Sorts of Fun Research Nuggets

I’m currently deep in the weeds writing a Christian Regency to add to the Within the Castle Gates series later this fall. So while ideas are pinging and a notebook is always within arm’s reach to jot down the latest reminder to myself or perfect dialogue snippet, I thought I’d share just a few of the treasures I found while researching certain fact points. First, I had to get in the mood. To pick up

Reaching Milestones and Setting New Goals

As 2019 wraps to a close with 2020 around the corner, I’ve started reflecting on the past year…and decade. There’s a lot to celebrate as I’ve been reaching milestones and setting new goals. It’s been quite the journey down that twisting, turning, don’t-know-where-this-will-lead road of writing for publication. After all, the real dream began in 2004 with the first manuscript finished in 2005. first non-fiction contract in 2006, first published book in 2007, and eventually

Home For Christmas ~ Tyler Gets His Story

Just over six months ago, I released Sing a New Song where I redeemed everyone’s favorite villain from the previous Wardrobe series books. But in the process, I uncovered a new “villain” whose story needed an ending. Without getting too close to spoilers, let’s just say that one of the identical twin directors of Gloria’s new show, Tyler Sherwood, was known for his flirty eyebrow quirks, Elvis-like lip curl, and a constant need for attention.

Strength Through Retreat ~ Lessons From the Mountains

I’m fresh home from a writing retreat in the mountains…and am once again reminded how it’s possible to find strength through retreat. It’s become a annual tradition for several members of my local writers’ group to escape the everyday chaos for a few days at the beginning of November and again in January. We check in to a resort on the creek, pull out our laptops, and write. And write. And brainstorm. And plot. And

Minimize the Mess and Simplify Your Life

Despite the ongoing stress this past summer of getting (and then keeping) our house ready to show, I’ve found an unexpected perk. Because I took the time to minimize the mess, our daily life is much simpler now. Let’s be honest. I’d been meaning to declutter the nooks and crannies of our house for months, if not years. There was just so much stuff crammed everywhere which made it difficult to find that one thing

Sharpen the Saw…Or Face Frustration

It’s all about the tools you use. Or to borrow a phrase made popular by author Stephen Covey, sharpen the saw or you’ll face frustration. The foundation of this idea comes from the image of two woodcutters with a quota of trees to fell before day’s end. The younger man chopped and chopped at a frenzied pace but after awhile, each blow was less and less effective and he worried he wouldn’t be done by
