Leaving a Legacy Behind

If you’ve been around my email list for awhile, you know that my mother-in-law passed away in the fall of 2022 and handling her complicated estate became an all-consuming task that put my writing on hold. Well, I’m so happy to report that we’re nearing the end of that journey with the sale of her house being the last big item on the list. (And it seems like we already have a buyer lined up,

Backlist Bonus: Dance Over Me

Once upon a time, I used to dance around in my bedroom. Okay, I was in elementary school. And I had a four-poster-canopy bed with yellow (why?? I hate yellow!) bedding crammed into my small room in our trailer house. And since we lived up in the mountains at the time, about the only music I could get on the radio was the classical station. But just imagine a girl with romantic daydreams spinning oh-so-gracefully

New Year, New Word…Same God

This week marks the beginning of a new year with so many possibilities ahead. Coffee dates with friends. Bible studies with a small group. Trails to hike. Books to read. Stories to create. Meals to fix. Love to share. But things don’t always go according to plan! Case in point: 2023. I started off last year full of HOPE that we would get through the myriad of details to finalize my mother-in-law’s estate. ?Then we

Bring on the Merry this Christmas

Christmas is just a week away and I’ve already been given the perfect gift. My salvation, of course. Along with God’s forgiveness, presence, comfort, wisdom, and so on. But I’m also talking about my restored health. Glimpses of creativity after such a long drought. A light at the end of the reconstruction tunnel and knowledge this estate-business marathon is (finally!!!) reaching the finish line. And a renewed purpose because I know what i was created

Sometimes Life Takes a Strange Turn

Lately I’ve spent some time reflecting back on my life and the various twists and turns that got me here. The reason for such introspection is all health-related because the constant stress lately is causing more-than-a-few problems and you can’t truly fix what’s broken until you get to the cause. BUT in the process, I’ve remembered several life-altering changes. Like when I was in elementary school and my dad got a new job in a

When Life Throws a Curve Ball…Home Runs are Still Possible
Yes, that’s a curve ball. And it’s not just a type of pitch in baseball. It’s also an unexpected occurrence or thing that causes confusion or uncertainty. (And isn’t life just filled with those!) Except not all curve balls are bad. Some are actually good. Or at least can lead to unexpected good results. For example, my pole-vaulting son (see my last email for more of that story) got a last-minute invitation to the “last

Saving Grace is coming soon
Saving Grace is coming soon…Which means it’s time to start giving my faithful readers more than vague hints about this long-delayed book. Once upon a time, it began with a folder filled with scribbled story ideas. A few scenes featured historical settings that had nothing to do with each other, but most were contemporary romances. I wrote the story about the football coach. I wrote the story about the small-town diner (that one’s still on my

February Focus on Love

As I’m writing this, the entire family is home with a snow day. Which made me remember those times in the past when the weather gave me a free day to do nothing but snuggle under a blanket with a mug of hot chocolate, a bowl of buttered popcorn, and a book. I love snow days. I also love peppermint mocha coffee. Dark chocolate. Italian and Mexican food. Castles. Waterfalls. I love my husband. My

2022 Word of the Year ~ Rooted

Lots of stuff happened last year… One son got engaged, moved back home for a few months, then got married and moved out. The other son had stress fractures destroy his junior track season and then interrupt his senior cross country season to the point he’s seriously considering trying to pole vault this spring instead. The (extended) family truly enjoyed a vacation again, this time right on the lake and mere minutes from Silver Dollar

Living Life With Open Hands

“Mom? My shins hurt again.” Actually, the bad news started with a text message on a Friday night: Could you schedule me an appointment at OCR in 2 weeks? OCR being the nickname for the Orthopedic and Spine Center of the Rockies, a.k.a. the sports injury and broken bone doctors. One of whom we’ve seen too many times over the past few years. Let’s start with some background. My youngest son’s love of running started in
