Why did I wait so long to post this...I'll tell you why - because it will be the last post of the day and I want you to read it...hopefully.  I love Rachel Van Dyken!!  No really, I do!  I've read almost everything she's written.  So when I tell you that you need to read this book and not speed through it - I mean it and I'm not giving anything away because whatever I say is gonna give it away. Although, I will say that Mason in this book is more broody and not as lighthearted as he was in the other books.  There's A LOT of information and A LOT of stuff going on in this book.  If you skip over anything - you're going to miss it.  So don't skip over anything in this book.  You've been warned!  There were several times I had to go back and read things again because I thought that I had missed something.  I did because I skipped a line...I was bad.  This was a good roundout for this series, but I'm kind of hoping that Rachel has more for us??? Is it just me?  If you want to know about the plot and any spoilers - you're gonna have to read the book...this is a no spoiler zone!!

One handywoman. One single dad.One set of twins. And the wall isn’t the only thing being drilled…I learned the hard way that being a handywoman isn’t easy. The questions, the stares—the assumption I’m the proud owner of a cock and balls. Not that it matters. I’ve proven over and over that I’m ready for anything the judgmental asses throw at me.Except the hot, single dad of twins who just moved to town.Brantley Cooper gets the shock of his life when I show up on his doorstep to fix up his kids’ new rooms. His son is confused why ‘the pretty lady has a drill,’ and his daughter has a new obsession—me.On paper, my job is easy. Go in, do their bedrooms, and leave. In theory, I’m spending eight hours a day with a guarded, sexy as hell guy, and I’m staying for dinner more often than I’m eating it alone, on my couch, with Friends re-runs.I shouldn’t be staying for dinner. I shouldn’t be helping him out with the twins. I shouldn’t be falling in love with tiny toes and dimpled cheeks. And I most definitely should not be kissing my client.Oops…

“I swear, messing with me is your new favorite hobby.” “It is,” he admitted, eyes sparkling. “You’re so easy to mess with, I don’t even have to try.” I rolled my eyes. “And to think—I let myself be guilt-tripped into this.” “More fool you. I warned you about her, and you obviously didn’t listen.” “That’s so not fair. I did listen, I just don’t have freaky skills to avoid the guilt like you do.” “I don’t avoid the guilt. I pretend.” “Would you have pretended if you were me, knowing you’d leave a poor guy to be lonely?” He raised his eyebrows. “I wouldn’t have been lonely. I’d have watched TV with my pants off.” “You don’t get to use my plans as an excuse,” I scoffed. “And unless your daughter is a master manipulator, you would have been lonely.” “She’s four. All four-year-olds are master manipulators. If kids came with manuals, that would be the title of the chapter that talks about age four,” he said. “There are technically manuals. They’re these wonderful, futuristic things called books.” “None of which are geared toward a single dad,” he pointed out. “The last time I Googled something, I diagnosed Eli with a rare, deadly disease, learned that there are way too many styles of braid for any human being to master, and also found out how to get the kids out of the door by eight and have time to do my make-up.” I paused. “I can see how that last one would be of use to you. Your mascara looks wonderful today.”

ETERNAL ExcerptCopyright © 2017 Cecy RobsonBanging from the kitchen has me turning in the direction of the wall oven. The brunette shoves the tin of crab cakes into the center, shiny with the sauce she basted them with.No sooner than she sets the timer and takes off her oven mitt than Kirk Watson arrives. “Hey, sweet thing. How about you fix me a plate?”How about I punch you in the head, Kirk?I glare in his direction. She’s the only non-Caucasian woman in the immediate vicinity. I’m not trying to be a dick and assume he’s racist, I’ve just known him long enough to know that’s what he is. Not to mention, she’s in a cocktail dress or whatever the fuck, not dressed in a black shirt and pants like the caterers Becca hired. Her small chin juts slightly forward. “I’m sorry, sir,” she says. “I don’t work here, I was just helping someone out.”Kirk is already drunk and way past horny. He leans his arm against the overhead counter and gives her the kind of once-over that should send her to the nearest shower to wash his filth clean. “Then how about I buy you a drink?”“It’s my understanding the drinks are free,” she tells him.He sidesteps in front of her when she tries to walk away, blocking her. “Come on, sweetie. I’m just trying to be nice.”I don’t think things through. I storm in from the opposite side and from one blink to the next, I’m suddenly there. The brunette takes a step back and into me, my presence startling her and making her jump. “Back off, Kirk. She’s with me.”Maybe I shouldn’t have said what I did, but Kirk’s the type who doesn’t know when to quit unless there’s a bigger man there to make him.Tonight, that bigger man is me. He swipes his shaved head, offering me a slick smile that turns challenging real quick. “Is that right?”“Damn straight.” I think the brunette looks up at me, but I’m too busy looking at Kirk. Yeah, he’s drunk, and ready to take a swing. The protective side of me kicks in. I grasp my supposed damsel in distress by the elbow and gently guide her behind me.His gaze trails to her briefly before returning to me. “I thought you were hard up.”“Nah,” I say, not wanting to give this idiot any amount of satisfaction. “Onto bigger and better as you can see.”“Or tinier and cuter?” he offers.“Watch your mouth,” I fire back, knowing he’s not complimenting her, but rather trying to rile me. “Like I said, she’s with me.”I clench my fists, causing my knuckles to crack. I don’t think he hears the crunch, not over the music and escalating clamor of voices. He does see me, though. Whatever he catches in my hardening features is enough to make him back down. Smart man, at least when it comes to a fight. He knows I can take a hit, and give one a hell of a lot harder. He grunts and slinks away, like he did me a favor by letting me off and not the other way around. I keep him in my sights. By the time he reaches the door leading out to the foyer, he perks up, likely having spotted the next woman he’ll approach.I wait until he disappears into the next room before turning back to the brunette. “Ma’am,” I say, tilting my chin.I mean to step away and back in the direction of my beer. One drink and out, right? Sounded good in theory except the moment I shift my weight to walk away, her smile holds me in place. It’s not the kind of smile that promises anything close to what the bartender offered, nor is it teasing and daring like the half-dozen cheerleaders Becca introduced me to flashed. It simply is, fragile like the first snowflakes that fall in winter, and shy like a young woman at her first dance, hoping no one notices she’s not dressed like the rest.I like what she’s wearing. She looks nice to look nice, not to impress or show off. And someone as pretty as her, well, she doesn’t need to be so shy.Her lips are glazed in a soft pink like her dress, not overly done, just enough to give them a shine and glisten her light eyes. “Thank you,” she says, quietly. “For helping me out.”“You’re welcome.”I take a step in the direction of the bar, eyeing my beer like it’s waiting for me to return. But the step feels unusually heavy and I think my friend the beer can wait.I turn slowly and offer this little thing with the pretty eyes and the soft smile my hand. It shouldn’t seem like such a big deal or much of an effort, but it’s a little of each. Maybe for both of us. “I’m Landon.”She takes my hand. I watch it as it disappears within my grasp.
“Hi, Landon,” she replies quietly. “I’m Luci.”

Blurb
He’s got every reason to be cocky . . . until a female cuts him down to size.

I’m Dallas Easton, the best goaltender in the league. I make a damn good living playing hockey, and with women falling at my feet wherever I go, why not enjoy it? I get whatever I want, whenever I want—that is, until I come across the one player who gets the best of me on the ice.

When I try to pummel the dude, all hell breaks loose. Imagine my surprise when the helmet comes off to reveal a woman underneath. And not just any woman, but the sexiest woman I’ve ever seen. Callie Davis is the complete opposite of the puck bunnies I usually go for, a good girl with sick moves and a selfless streak a mile wide. I need to make amends, but she dodges me at every turn. It doesn’t help that Callie’s brother hates my guts, or that my agent thinks she’s bad for my career.

But I could care less what they think. I can’t let our little run-in on the ice be the end of our story. Because when I set my sights on something, I won’t rest until I score.

Excerpt

Heart pounding, I stared him down, waiting for him to take the shot. The second he drew back his stick, I got into position, only for him to hit me right between the eyes with his glove. For a split second I lost my focus, and he slapped the puck right between my legs.
“Motherfucker,” I growled, glaring down at the glove on the ice and the puck in the goal. The worthless cunt actually had the audacity to throw his glove at my face. Kellan burst out laughing and the whole rink echoed as they cheered at my expense. Red just fucked up big time.

The others tried their luck to no avail, and then Red was back at it. I waited for him to throw the other glove, but instead, he turned and sprayed ice right up into my face, his body colliding with mine. During our fall, he hit the puck right into the goal. Rage coursed through my veins and all I could see was red . . . literally. Getting up quickly, he started back toward the others and I slid out my stick, hooking it around his ankle. I jerked him back and he fell. If he wanted to play dirty, I’d show him how dirty I could be. He tried to get up, but I pushed him back down, tossing my mask and gloves onto the ice. The others shouted and skated toward us, but I wasn’t letting Red get away with making me out to be a fool.

“Think you’re hot shit now, huh?” I spat, grabbing him by the jersey. He was smaller than me, so it wasn’t hard to flip him over and rip off his mask. Blinded by rage, I pulled my fist back, only to stop cold in my tracks. I stared at the face behind the mask, completely transfixed.

The person lying on the ice wasn’t Justin’s brother. It was a woman, and not just any woman. She was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. Before any words could escape my lips, Justin tackled me to the ice and my breath whooshed out of my lungs as we slid to the wall.

“What the fuck is your problem? That’s my sister,” he shouted angrily. Eyes darkening, he slammed my shoulders against the wall.

Catching my breath, I looked up at him and held up my hands. “I didn’t know it was a female. I wouldn’t have touched her if I’d known.” Under most circumstances, I’d have punched him and been done, but I felt like a tool.

His nostrils flared. “You’re such a prick.”

“Justin,” his sister called out. We both looked over at her as Kellan and the other two guys helped her up. They all stared daggers at me, including her. “Let’s go.”

Justin pushed off of me and skated over to her. I got one last look at her angelic face and emerald green eyes before she turned around and disappeared off the ice.

He’s got every reason to be cocky . . . until a female cuts him down to size. I’m Dallas Easton, the best goaltender in the league. I make a damn good living playing hockey, and with women falling at my feet wherever I go, why not enjoy it? So Dallas comes across as a total tool...you have to know that going in. He's not the greatest person in the world and it's tough to like him....like ALOT!! However, Callie is hard not to like. Her brothers are hockey players with Easton, and my favorite part of the book is where they put Callie in the hockey practice game and Dallas "tries" to beat her up...ummm it doesn't go the way he plans because her brothers have her back. She's one heck of a player though especially since she grew up with brothers who played hockey. There's a lot about Callie that just touches your heart, and as much as Dallas tries, he just can’t stay away from her – not that he’s really trying. She's good all the way to the marrow of the bone as my mom would say.  Once again Leslie did an outstanding job on this series. I'm loving it and cannot wait for Playmaker...that is going to be even better!! I can feel that in my bones. If you haven't read this series....get on this ASAP!
I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.  All opinions expressed are my own and do not reflect anyone else's.

'Tis the season for ex-Navy SEAL Clayton East to come home for the holidays-even if the mood at home is anything but festive. His father is ill. The East Ranch is in financial trouble. And now it's on Clayton, the prodigal son, to make sure his family doesn't lose everything. Headstrong Abby Harper is like a mother to her younger brothers, who she's helped raise since she was a teenager. Keeping them in line is no small task while she's also working toward her college degree. And now that one of her brothers has been arrested for stealing cattle at the East Ranch, Abby is at her wits' end. But there is a silver lining: Clayton East. He believes in second chances, and is willing to give one to her brother this Christmas. Letting beautiful Abby-and the inescapable longing in his heart-off the hook, however, is a whole 'nother story. Could it be that the woman of this local hero's dreams has been back at home all along? Contains mature themes.

EXCERPT

As soon as Abby saw the mare, the smile that pulled at her lips displayed her joy. She oohed and ahhed over the horse.
“Her name is Diamond.”
“Diamond,” Abby repeated as she stroked the horse’s neck. “It fits you.”
The mare had fallen for Abby almost immediately, and Clayton could understand why. There was something about the woman that drew people and animals. She was quiet and unassuming. He suspected that might be because so many people overlooked her. That was their loss because there was so much about Abby that was intriguing.
“You’re staring,” she said as she cut her eyes to him. Clayton lifted one shoulder in a shrug. “I like what I see.”She paused in her caress of the mare. Then she took a step back, and then another and another before she turned and walked away.He frowned as anger spiked through him. He’d moved too fast. Abby was like a spooked mare. He should’ve trodden slowly. Earned her trust first. When Abby reached the back of the barn, she stopped and looked at him over her shoulder. It was the seductive curve of her lips that halted his thoughts. As soon as she turned the corner, he started after her.His blood rushed through him in a frenzy before pooling in his cock. With his heart beating furiously, he found her leaning back against the barn.Clayton stood before her. His palms ached to feel her skin, to hold her glorious curves against him. He couldn’t seem to catch his breath, and as he took a step closer to her, he realized that it had been years since he’d hungered to kiss anyone as he did Abby. Her lips parted, drawing his attention to her mouth. The longing he’d suppressed for days consumed him. He took the final step that brought their bodies close. The soft light from over the barn couldn’t reach them in the shadows. He held her gaze and put a hand on her waist before slowly pulling her against him. Her palms landed on his upper arms. Then she lifted her face to him. That’s all it took to push him over the edge.Clayton lowered his head, her eyes drifting shut right before their lips met. He softly plied her mouth with light kisses until her hands moved up his arms and twined around his neck. When she sighed, he slid his tongue against her lips.As her mouth opened, and their tongues met, need coursed through him. The desire, the yearning to have her seized him, overwhelmed him as the kiss deepened. He wound one hand into her long hair while his other splayed over her back. With each lick, each sigh, each moan, the hunger grew. Without a doubt, he had to have her. Not because he was in need, but because he ached for her.But now wasn’t the time. He wouldn’t have their first time together be against the back of the barn in the shadows so no one saw them. He wasn’t ashamed of Abby, and he wanted her to know that. He cared about her. That in and of itself shocked him, but he accepted it. What choice did he have, really?Clayton knew he had to end the kiss now before he was past the point of no return. Already he was circling down that drain. He forced himself to pull back. Then he saw her heavy-lidded eyes and the way her chest heaved. He ran his thumb over her swollen lips and briefly thought of picking her up and riding somewhere where no one could find them. Luckily, there was enough sanity left in him that he was able to keep dominion over his desire.“Why did you stop?” she asked. He was glad she didn’t know how easily she could’ve broken through his restraint by simply pulling his head down for another kiss. That’s all it would’ve taken. He wanted her so badly he shook with it.“I’m already walking a tightrope, Abby,” he confessed. “If I keep kissing you, I won’t stop.”“I don’t want you to stop.”He groaned at her husky words. If he wanted to stay in control, he had to reason with her, and he knew just the thing to say.“You don’t want your brothers finding us, do you?”Just as he expected, it was as if she were doused with cold water. “Or your parents.”He forced a smile even as he missed the sexy woman who had been begging for more kisses a moment before. But he’d find her again soon enough. “Exactly.”“It’s been a long time since I’ve kissed anyone.”“Their loss. My gain.” And damn if he didn’t feel male pride at having her in his arms. She glanced at the ground as she smiled. Then her gaze met his as she pulled her hands down to rest on his chest. “Be careful, Clayton East, I might realize you’re a good guy.”“I can promise you that I’m not.”Her grin widened. “You’re wrong.”

I'm probably biased because I have yet to read a Donna Grant book I haven't liked or been invested in.

This is the first book in the series and you're either hit or miss when you start a series...this was a hit for me. I loved Clayton and Abby. This really bordered more on romantic suspense than anything.

When Clayton gets out of the military he doesn't want to go home until he's forced to since his father is ill. What he finds is that Abby's brother is the reason that cattle is missing on his ranch and instead of having him arrested, he takes him under his wing. This had a really great feel to it and a great beginning to the series.

I was given an ARC copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. It's done.My heart slams against my ribs. Did she finally leave that toxic relationship for good? I swerve to the curb to read Sophie's text again. Maybe I read it wrong. Maybe my wishful mind added words that aren't there. The sheriff delivered the divorce papers. It's done.Halle-freakin-lujah! I'm elated for her, but also worried. That imbalanced jerk is capable of anything. I'm proud of you! I reply. I'm not proud of myself… I hope you're on your way, she writes. Don't be late.I pull away from the curb and accelerate toward the country club. She shouldn't be left alone now that Seth knows she's serious.A few minutes later I park next to her black-on-black Mini. I glance up. Sophie is running laps around the court now. Still the All-American athlete she was in school. Which leads to one conclusion—she's going to hurt me. Again. I can practically feel the pain.Watching her now, I can't help but beam. She's free.I slide out of the car and grab the tennis racquet from my trunk. I don't know why I let her talk me into these things. After sixteen years you'd think I'd be able to say no to her once.I stroll onto the court just as Sophie rounds the corner and heads toward me. "Hey, Soph."She slows down as she reaches me. Her golden-cinnamon eyes latch onto mine. The breeze lifts her red hair. "You're late, Pete. Again.""I am an advocate for delaying pain and humiliation."She grins and her dimples appear, reminding me why I never say no to her. She's awesome. I chose well back in sixth grade. My best friend then, my best friend now."Dork." She punches my arm. I hold her arm gently. "Soph, are you okay?"She shrugs. "I think so.”We stare at each other for a few moments. "You did the right thing."She studies me. "I've never quit before. Ever." The last word catches in her throat.I fold her into my chest. "You did not quit. You tried. For much longer than you should have."Her taught body softens. "Now what?" I ask."Learn how to breathe again. Care for myself. Begin to choose me first."I kiss the top of her head. "Welcome to the singles club," I whisper. She pulls back. "You broke up with Natalie?""No, but you know what I mean."She steps away, shaking her head. "It's this cavalier attitude of yours about relationships that'll leave you alone and unloved." She walks toward her tennis bag.I decide not to remind her where her idealistic notions of love have left her. "You love me," I say. "Who else do I need?""Yes, I love both you and my pit bull," she says as she draws her blood-red racquet out of the bag and executes practice swings. "But in my dog's case"—she eyes me—"I had him fixed."My leg muscles spasm and my hand instinctively reaches down to protect my vitals. "You're sick… And dangerous."She glances at me with her divine smile. "And you're still the same snot-nosed twelve-year-old I met in sixth grade. C'mon, let's play."
About the Author:   Armenian by heritage, born in Iran, lived in Barcelona, and escaped New York until he found his home in Los Angeles, Ara’s first eleven years were both busy and confusing. The fruit salad of languages would slow down his genetically encoded need to tell stories. Until then, an alter ego would be required…   He received an engineering degree from California State University Northridge and earned his MBA from the University of Southern California. Today, he is a technology executive in the entertainment industry. True to the Hollywood life, Ara wrote for a children’s television pilot that could have made him rich (but didn’t) and nearly sold a video game to a major publisher (who closed shop days later).   But something was amiss until his wife read him the riot act. “Will you stop talking about wanting to be a writer and just do it?” So with her support (and mandate), and their two boys serving as his muse, he wrote stories.   Fascinated by the human species, Ara writes about choices, relationships, and second chances. Always a sucker for a hopeful ending, he writes contemporary romance stories. He is an alumnus of both the Santa Barbara Writers Conference and Southern California Writers’ Conference (where he also serves as a workshop leader). Ara is an active member of the Romance Writers of America and its Los Angeles chapter.   Ara is represented by Stacey Donaghy.

bad-tempered or irritable as a result of hunger.  Ladies & Gents, I sold my soul for a hamburger. And I have no regrets. When a girl is trapped indefinitely in an elevator with a smoking hot burger and an empty stomach, even the strongest of women will crumble. The story goes like this: Bradley Hamilton, the most frustrating human alive, offered me half of his hamburger in exchange for a date. I took him up on the offer—while under duress—and now I’m stuck with the consequences. Specifically, the scorching kiss at the end of our date that has me drooling for more. However, there’s one whopper of a problem. This man has been a thorn in my side for the last twenty years—ever since he moved next door and became my older brother’s best friend. We’ve gone head to head for years, and now, he’s trying to buy out my restaurant in order to plop one of his big fat gyms there instead. I refuse to let him ruin my business. Unfortunately, Bradley Hamilton is like an order of french fries: you just can’t have one. It appears our lips are addicted to kissing. He’s alarmingly handsome. Deliciously confident. And worst of all? Underneath that salty exterior he’s starting to show signs of sweet. Brad Hamilton is my guilty pleasure, my cheat meal, my greatest craving. Which is why he’ll be one habit that’s hard to kick.

How many of us have been Hangry? We all have. So it's not shocking that in the heat of hangry, Lexi agrees to go out on a date with Bradley because they're stuck in an elevator together. So what, that they've been best friends for over twenty years or that for three of those years they haven't talked to each other! What I liked about this book was the build up - it had heat in it, but it wasn't overrun with so much sex that I had to skip entire pages. I know, it seems really weird that I skip sex scenes and yet I review books for leisure and enjoyment. Here's the thing - when you're reading possibly 3 books a day...because when I'm off, I can. I speed read and it's tiresome to read sex scenes over and over. They get repetitive, but a good story lasts forever

Smashly Bookalicious Reviewing Chicks - “For all those girls who have dealt with a crazy ex and their antics, this book is for you.”

I really love this new series, but I felt like this book kept building and building, and then BAM…it struck!  When it struck – it struck hard and heavy.  I’ve always loved Travis and he kind of made me want to hit him in this book.  If it were me and I was Hannah, I think I’d have kicked him to the curb a long time ago. For him being so Alpha Male, he sure was kowtowing to everything that Allegra told him to do, and I wasn’t sure how I liked that.  If he’s with Hannah, then he’s with her, and I wouldn’t have let my ex-wife tell me differently.  His daughter was just a little hellion that needed her butt beat…with a 4x4!!!  In the south we don’t take kindly to our children talking to us like that and I know in the end she straightened herself up, but still, it didn’t help that I wanted to reach through my kindle and wrap my hand around her throat…no lie!  I’m really excited to get to Dante’s book and I know that justice will be done to that book.  He’s such a complex character and he’s right up there with Silas and Big Papa that I don’t think it’s going to be an easy book to write.  It’ll be sad to see the character arcs come to an end, but the good thing is we always get to see them in other books.
Hannah in this book was a brilliant, strong character.  It’s a character trait that the author carries forward in all her books.  I love this.  She doesn’t write weak women – they’re flawed, they have problems, but they aren’t weak.  For that, I’m grateful – No one wants to read about an insecure, whiny woman.  At least, I don’t.   If you do, then you don’t ever want to read this author’s books because that is one trait that will always be missing – whiny, weak heroines and thank the Lord for that!!  Travis needed to step up in this book or step aside, and I guess had he stepped aside – there would be no book.  Like I said above, he got his act together, but it took something happening for him to finally wake up.  This was a good addition to the series, and I can’t wait for the next one.

I was given an ARC copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.  All opinions expressed are my own and do not reflect anyone else’s.
