Evander Lennox doesn’t do anything he doesn’t want to do. At least, that is, until he’s sent to prison. The four years he's incarcerated, he’s had no choice but to do the things he's asked to do, when he’s asked to do them. And now, if he doesn’t, it will mean a one-way ticket straight back to hell.
Once he’s free, it takes him twenty-four hours to get his old job back, his dog at home where he belongs, and an understanding that people aren’t as forgiving as he once thought them to be. He’s just about given up hope of ever integrating back into society when a woman slams into his heart, literally and figuratively.

Kennedy Swallow just wants to belong somewhere.
When she was younger, her parents divorced, and chose to separate her from her twin. Fast forward fifteen years, and she’s finally getting to meet the family she’s always wanted to be a part of. To make that happen, she uproots her life and moves to the tiny town of Hostel, Texas—giving her almost everything she’s ever wanted.
Just when she thinks she’s making progress in winning her family over, she finds out that her twin is ill, and the only reason her family tolerates her is due to the convenience of having a free caretaker whenever they might be in need of one.
After a few eye-opening experiences, she quickly realizes that she’s being used. Vowing to herself that she’ll make the best of the situation, she begins to steel her heart. What she doesn’t prepare for is a man named Evander who sees that barrier as a challenge.
***
It takes Evander all of ten seconds while watching the woman on the floor, bleeding from her jaw, to realize that maybe life isn’t as bad as it could be.
This woman with her thrill for life, a crazy obsession with chickens, and a desire to be wanted, changes everything he thinks he knows.
But it doesn’t take long for him to realize that just by being around her, the people of the town have judged her guilty by association.
Her business suffers, and soon after, she realizes what it will mean to have him by her side—the loss of everything she’s worked so hard for.
Kennedy knows that Evander is worth it. Evander, however, decides that he’s not letting another person get hurt because he was stupid enough to care.
Lani Lynn Vale is married to the love of her life that she met in high school. She fell in love with him because he was wearing baseball pants. Ten years later they have three perfectly crazy children and a cat named Demon who likes to wake her up at ungodly times in the night. They live in the greatest state in the world, Texas. She writes contemporary and romantic suspense, and has a love for all things romance. You can find Lani in front of her computer writing away in her fictional characters world...that is until her husband and kids demand sustenance in the form of food and drink.
What can I say Lani Lynn Vale is my all time favorite author.. I love that this new series also has charters from the other series she's wrote like The Dixie Wardens, The Code 11-KPD Swat, & The Uncertain Saints. I can't wait to see where she takes us with the rest of the series. But for this book let's just say that I absolutely love that Kennedy never gave a second thought to getting involved with Evander even though he just got out of prison and that before the book ended he was cleared & it was proved he was set up. I love how she got into how most small towns treat most people as outcast rather warranted or not. It was amazing how Kennedy didn't let it bother her that people thought differently after she got with Van. I think one of my favorite parts was in the grocery store when the ladies were talking about Van killing the scumbag and Kennedy went off on them standing up for her man & the pregnancy test hitting the one lady & landing next to his feet making him realize his hopes of having kids with her was coming true. The only thing I'd change is when the bad people broke in and killed Gertie, Vans dog, couldn't she have just been badly injured after having surviving so many tours overseas & losing a leg serving our country. I actually cried when she was killed & again when they buried her cause you could just feel Van's pain because Lani is such an amazing writer and you can just feel what her characters are feeling.

I´ve been on a "Lani Lynn Vale marathon" over Christmas break. I will say this is not the best I´ve read, but these series are likeable. Not too long, sweet and with a bit of suspence in them and straight to the point. A good way to spend the time.
It’s hard to get to the romance when this is just so SAD, nauseatingly sad. The heroine lost one sister and her mother to cancer in her teens, her father is paralyzed, her off page brother has issues, and in current story she loses her twin she only recently connected with to cancer.
The writing was engaging so will continue with the story, but praying for a few less deaths and that means the animals too.
WOOHOO!!! A brand new LLV series for brighten my month and to gush over!!!
Hail Nowas more Hail Yeah!, because Evander and Kennedy’s story was the perfect start for this brand new and oh so promising series – if you don’t know what I mean, just check out those covers and Blurbs!!!
Evander has been very recently released from prison where he was wrongly convicted to, and now is back to the town where people seems to either hate him or want to have a roll in his bed. So basically everyone is out to get him, and that makes him awry of everyone. Well that is, until a certain adorable and quirky farmer gave him no other choice.
Kennedy relocated all her life three and a half years ago to start fresh and be near her new found family, specially her twin sister, so now her life is fully dedicated to them as well as to all her farm and its animals. Being the gently and giving soul that she was, when she crossed paths with the giant, smoking HOT tattooed ex-con, she didn’t she what the man that everyone seemed to look down on and be suspicious of, oh no, she saw the real him. And the more she got to know him, the more she wanted him.
If there’d ever been a time where I wanted a man, it was now. I wanted him, and I wanted him bad. Being how he knew he had no future to give to anyone, Evander did his best to push Kennedy away, and to show her the damage she was doing to herself by just being near him, even if it killed him to deny the insane attraction that came to the forefront each time they met.
I wanted her. I wanted her in my arms. I wanted her under my skin. I wanted her in my life.
No one could say that Kennedy was a quitter, because each single time that Evander pushed she went and attached herself to him, almost figuratively, lol, and didn’t allow for one single second that the disgusting and unfair townsfolk to keep her from the man she could she was as special and good to heart as they come.
And that’s when I knew that I didn’t care if this was a mistake. Nothing this good…nothing that felt this good…could be a mistake.
I loved Kennedy’s battle and resilience, but I really wish she had just fought for herself just as much has she fought for Van or for the rest of her family, but the way she was a pushover for them, and the horrible way they treated her, left me felling down with the character.
Also, adding to that that I prefer when the H is the pursuer, and here it felt that Kennedy was the chaser for the beginning at least. Don’t get me wrong, I adored that she defended him, and didn’t give up on being near, I just felt if she hadn’t they probably would have never have this epic love they did, that he would have let his demons steal it, while blinded by his sense of protection and preservation of her, that would never have taken the chance, the risk. On that point I’m so glad she did, because of it he fell hook, line and sinker, and it was beautiful to see.
She’d wormed herself into my life, planted herself so deeply into my goddamn heart that I didn’t think I’d ever be man enough to let her live without me.
And damn, it’s such a shame on that point, because this man had Best Book Boyfriend written all over him! Ok, he still is that, very much so, and given how rightfully awry he is of people, I say he took a huge leap, along Kennedy in. Not only in, but completely stealing his heart!
I swear to Christ, this woman was my fuckin’ heart.
And in turn, he stole mine right out of my chest, right along with Kennedy’s, because every love profession, every loving gesture, after he came to terms with it, was a thing of beauty. Yes, I could have gone without the numbering of how many woman he slept with, and his manwhore past, but I understood why he felt the need to do it, given Kennedy was given him her virginity, but he just went the wrong way at it. Typically guy mistake. LOL
I quickly forgave him, though, first because all this was in the past, before meeting the heroine, second, because that is no longer the man he was, and he changed his ways after prison, so it has been a looooonnnggggg time for him, and third, he said the most swoon worthy things to Kennedy! Seriously, I melt in a puddle more than once!
“Spent every fucking second, of every fucking day since I’ve met you, thinking about you. Worrying about you. Wondering if you’ve eaten yet,” I whispered against her skin. “I’ve slept with you only a handful of times, but it was enough to know that I don’t ever want to sleep without you again.”
OMG, see what I mean?! <3
Oh, Lani Lynn Vale has yet again made me cry – as well and laugh and all the other feels – in this book, because there are a couple of scenes there that if, like me you’re a animal lover, I’m certain you’ll be sobbing too, so don’t say you weren’t warned.
Evander and Kennedy were indeed the perfect introduction to the Hail Raiders series, and we could already meet most of the future Main Male Characters, and I considering all the trouble and troubled character, each and everyone of them seems to be, they look beyond promising! I feel another LLV epic series coming, and I can’t wait!!!! <3 <3 <3 <3
“There is one thing on this Earth that has the power to destroy me. That’s you,” he declared. “I love you, and I can’t imagine a life without you. There’s not a single moment that goes by throughout the day that I don’t think about you. So yes, I love you. It doesn’t matter if you break my heart for all to see…I’ll love you forever and always.”

I was thrilled to jump into this new Hail Raisers series from the beginning. And what a beginning it was. My introduction to Evander was sad. He was incarcerated for four years and when he finally got out of prison, there was no welcome home party. The only one thrilled to see him was his dog.
Kennedy is surprisingly in the same situation as far as family goes. She's learned the hard way that unconditional love is not guaranteed just because you share the same blood as your relatives. She has a big heart and she's willing, and actually has, given her few possessions to her family to make their lives easier while sacrificing her own comfort. Just once she'd like to be on the receiving end. All she wants is to be loved and put first in someone's life. But it seems that her pets are the closest she will come to the affection she craves. She's got a dog, some goats, and some chickens. And yes, she names every single one of them. She finds herself at the feed store every week buying supplies and tries to convince herself that she doesn't need one more cute chicken. When she has an accident and the chickens escape from their container, she tries to catch them and then discovers that,"A big, sexy man like Evander holding tiny, fluffy baby chickens was enough to cause every hormone in my body to start firing."
It's very cute how bubbly Kennedy tries to get big bad Evander to share himself with her when he usually doesn't speak more than a few words. He's rough and gruff and rarely smiles, but she somehow without even trying, manages to amuse him. He tries to stay away from her. He knows the town is unforgiving and she will pay for how they feel about him if she's seen with him. But it's a small town and they keep ending up at the same place at the same time. She wants to be around him, but at what cost?
I loved Hail No. I got caught up in the danger and suspense of the situation that put Van in prison, and his frustration and inability to let it go when he got out. I fell in love with Kennedy and her pets. I raged at the people that were supposed to support them, but instead repeatedly let them down. But at the same time, I recognized that having that in common drew them together even more. I couldn't wait for them to give up the fight and give in to their attraction. The slow build was delicious and the wait was worth it. They were very creative and very entertaining when they let their passion loose. I also enjoyed the other Hail Raisers and I can't wait to get to know them better in future installments. I confess that Travis is the one that has me the most intrigued right now, I need to know his story. Whichever one is next, I'll be there. The line forms here...
Hard for me to write, I have enjoyed all Lani Lynn books. Evander is my only saving grace with this book and the narrators who are amazing. Evander’s character never changes and he was who he was from the beginning to the end.
But I just didn’t connect with Kennedy, at first, I liked her but as the book went on and the stuff with her sister and then her brother in law I am just more confused… She seemed to be weak then strong then weak again I just don’t get it.
I just wasn’t feeling the rest of this woe is me attitude.
Spoiler…. Authors you don’t need to kill off the animals EVER.
I said it earlier the narration is fantastic I am a fan of these two and together they are great.
An amazing start to an exciting romantic suspense series by Lani Lynn Vale! I was captivated with HAIL NO from the get go and could not put it down!
Evander is fresh out of spending four years in jail and trying to reestablish his life in Hostel, TX, he's finding the town is not willing to forgive or forget, but he is not willing to leave the town he loves. Kennedy is a sweet woman who has been let down and used by her family, she's never let it tarnish her caring nature, she is quirky and sweet but hasn't quite fit into her new hometown. Evander and Kennedy meet for the first time as the result of an accident caused by a kid, from the moment they meet you can tell that there is a connection neither is ready for but proves impossible to ignore.
At first look Evander is a tough-guy alpha with a hardened heart, you begin to see there is some softness to it when it comes to his dog, Gertie, but once he meets Kennedy the big old heart he has comes through! Kennedy, oh Kennedy, such a sweet, sassy, selfless woman! Evander and Kennedy are a match made for each other and their story is a perfect mix of humor, chemistry and intrigue!
Kennedy and Evander are the type of people with good hearts who always seem to have bad luck and/or are done wrong by people. Each of them have been through tough times and definitely deserve the love and friendship that the other can offer. To reach that love they have to survive the pettiness of sanctimonious townsfolk, horrible family members and troublemakers. Along the way readers are introduced to some incredible secondary characters that have Evander and Kennedy's back, and I look forward to learning more about each of them.
I loved this book, like i knew I would and I can't wait for the other books in this series. I loved the hero and the heroine ad the side characters who will get their own books soon. Another thing that this author shine at is her connecting her series. This author has quickly become a fast favorite of mine, and once of my favorites. I am so glad I found her and that she is able to write so many great books and so fast. I can't wait for book 2!
It was never really explained why her family hated her Her twin sister's and twin sister's husband reaction towards her seemed way too over-dramatic and abnormal
So my new years plan to clean up the 1000+ books on my kindle that I have yet to read is off to a great start. Well kind of. If you don't count the fact that I've read 6 books and added the four next books in each of their series to my kindle :/ ok so maybe it's not worked out quite how I planned but I have read some great books.
Lani Lynne Vale has been on my radar for years but I always put it off. Initially because she has a load of MC books and I tend to avoid those for being a little hit or miss for me. But for some reason this one registered with me and I one clicked it, then didn't read it.
And now I am hooked. There's something about a big, muscled, bike riding alpha who's been misunderstood by everyone that works. And Evander was just such a great hero. I loved him from the minute his first question was where are my horses and dog. Because there is seriously nothing hotter than a man who loves his dog.
Kennedy was as completely perfect as Evander. She was so sweet and soft and caring about everyone around her but she wasn't a doormat. She stood up for herself but she did it without disregarding anyone else's feelings or needs and without being an idiot.
The two of them together was hot and I was surprised by the full range of emotions I went through. And the introduction to Hannah and Travis has me hoping Hannah kicks him to the curb and shacks up with Rafe ;)
This is the first book in the brand new Hail Raisers series from Lani Lynn Vale, I honestly don't know how Lani continues to surprise me with her writing but that's what she does. I was so excited to get started with this book and it didn't disappoint one bit!
Evander Lennox was wrongly convicted of a heinous crime and locked up for the last 4 years, after getting released from prison he tried to get some semblance of normalcy back again. Evander was a bit cold and standoffish in the beginning and I wasn't sure how he could win me over if he stayed that way, thankfully my concerns were moot and he stole my heart just the same as Lani's other men all have!
Kennedy has lost everyone who has ever mattered to her, after watching her go through some awful things my heart felt completely broken for her! I really wished I could have gone into this book to give her a hug and have her as a friend. I knew she would be an amazing woman from early on but she surpassed all my expectations and proved just how good she was.
There were so many people I hated in this story, both Evander and Kennedy's families were horrible and I really hope Karma comes and kicks their asses! While they didn't have the love of their blood family they had the family that they decided to surround themselves with and that's a far more powerful thing that blood sometimes.
There is always so much going on in LLV book that you know you'll never get bored. She always keeps us on our toes and leaves us wanting more. After receiving my copy late last night I couldn't wait to get started and I juked straight in, I had this read in a few hours as I just couldn't get enough of Evander and Kennedy's story! I always get so sucked into Lani's worlds that I never want to leave, these books are so addicting!!
We get to see the men that are going to be coming up in this new series and I have to say I'm impressed. These stories are going to be some of my favourites I just know it!!
I can't wait to see how Travis and Hannah's story pans out, I know there are some major hurtles coming for this couple and Hannah has already stolen a piece of my heart!
Hail No introduces us to Evander, a just released convict, and Kennedy, a chicken farmer. Both of them have shitty families (and that is the NICEST thing I can say about them!). Kennedy is so sweet and is just desperate for someone to love her. Her family has only really used her and she is alone. Evander's family all but abandoned him once he was incarcerated. These two have a few run ins before Evander starts to consider that Kennedy might be more than just his quirky neighbor.
Kennedy made my heart hurt. Ugh, I just wanted to hug her. When . I wanted Evander to protect her and shield her from a world filled with people who took advantage of her. But, then he worries that he will only make her life worse (not possible dude, her life is a shit show), and tries to bail. Not cool, Evander. Thankfully, Kennedy is not dumb and realizes why he is pulling away and is determined to NOT let him. Yay Kennedy! The climax of the story occurs in parts; as you think things are getting better...nope. It was great! I read the book in 1 sitting!
Overall, Hail No isn't surprising-no shocking suspense or anything like that-but it is the touching story of two very dynamic characters that will steal your heart. If they don't you are a Vulcan with no emotions. Seriously, if you don't feel empathy for Kennedy, I worry that you are dead inside.
If you are an animal lover...

I love you, woman. Lock, stock, and barrel. Down to my bones. Everything that I have to give is yours. It may not be much, but it’s all that I have to give, and I want you to have it.”
Kennedy was what you'd call an unlucky woman. Since a very young age, she had to watch while her mother and older sister struggled and eventually lost their battle with cancer. After years of separation, she sought her other siblings out, the ones who stayed with her father after the divorce, and ended up moving to their town with the hope of having a loving and normal family dynamic. Unfortunately, nothing went as planned.
I don't really have a bunch of stuff to say about Kennedy - she wasn't a very remarkable heroine.
It's not like I disliked her, but I feel like the author could've added way more personality to her. She was such a major pushover and crybaby that it was starting to annoy me.
Evander, on the other hand, was dreamy AF. He was a brooding-tatted up-6 foot 6-alpha.
Aaaand an ex-convict.
Chill, he was wrongfully convicted.
Yeah, and let's just say that our man was a tad bit vindictive when he got out.
All in all, I did like the book as a whole - it's just that I felt like the story was sort of rushed sometimes. I ended up confused with some of the developments since they were kind of thrown my way.
Hail No is definitely written in ways that I’ve come to expect from Lani Lynn Vale, but there are also a few aspects of the text that seemed very unValelike, which is not a bad thing at all; in fact, it actually brought a freshness to Evander and Kennedy’s story because it didn’t feel formulaic or manufactured in the same scope as Vale’s other series and since I’ve pretty much read every one of them, I liked how the build-up of the hero and heroine’s intimate relationship as well as their honesty when it comes to what they actually mean to one another is a slow go; it’s the perfect pace for them considering the extenuating circumstances that seem to stall/prevent their respective claiming.
A significant part of the story line is the backstory of Evander’s stint in prison and the dangers and discoveries that seem to drive the truth behind his conviction of a crime he didn’t commit. It’s intriguing how Vale wrote this aspect of the book because there’s quite a bit of mystery surrounding the circumstances of the arrest and the fact that the town treats Evander like a pariah and Kennedy guilty by association illustrates just how jacked up this situation is and why separating the facts from the fiction almost seems impossible at times.
Kennedy and Evander are extremely likable characters – ones readers can’t help sympathize with and feel enraged for by how their family members treat them. The loss and the heartbreak they have both felt due to the people who should love them most is despicable, but once again, it proves the saying that sometimes true family isn’t blood related.
Even though Kennedy is quirky and wears her heart on her sleeve, which seems to be part of the reason certain people treat her like a doormat, she can also be quite tenacious, especially when the man she has feelings for pushes her away because he doesn’t want the town to treat her like they do him. In Evander, she’s find a lifeline…a person who wants her in his life and shows her, at least most of the time, just how special she is to him and that is not something she’s willing to give up without a fight.
Kennedy and Evander may be opposites in a lot of ways, but they are similar where it counts and it’s those similarities that endear them to each other and allow them a chance at a life much different than the one they’ve been living because both of them were only existing focusing on what needed to be done and doing it without little else to fill their lives and hearts.
Hail No is a great start to Vale’s new series and with the introduction of secondary characters, I can’t wait to see where Vale takes them when their story lines are written!
Evander Lennox is out of prison for a crime he did not commit. No one in his small town cares he was innocent they all see him as a thug, but he is used to it. As soon as he gets back he heads to his home and to get his dog. He doesn't need distractions, just work, his dog and his home.
Kennedy Swallow moved to be closer to her father and twin sister. Kennedy was split from her family left in her mothers and older sisters care and had not heard from the rest of the family since she was young. Losing everyone she was close with she desperately wants to be accepted as family even if they just walk over her. Now in Hostel, Texas she is beginning to realize that the relationships she was building were a facade the only person who seems to be interested in getting to know her is Evander.
Evander knows he should stay away from Kennedy but she draws him in. With Kennedy, Evander feels peace she doesn't judge him and accepts him for who he is. With a plan that doesn't involve Kennedy in place, Evander has to decide what is really important to him revenge or Kennedy?
Exceptional beginning or the first in the Hail Raisers series. I liked Evander, he was intense, gruff, and you wanted to know his story. Kennedy I felt for, she tries so hard and is treated like dirt repeatedly. Have some hankies close by for this fantastic story.
Although I'm going to continue listening to these series, because I've come too far to stop. Again, this author needs a good editor. I think I read at least two things that were said early on that were said again later, like the conversations never happened before. And then there's a sister who Evander says at the end, "hates" him now and you never know why. Because he didn't do what he was accused of or because the other brother wasn't who he seemed to be? I just don't understand why it's even mentioned if the author isn't going to explain what is going on.
Then there's the instance when Evander leaves town to get Kennedy. As far as I can tell, he didn't leave the state. I thought he caught up with her in El Paso, which is still in the same state as where this is taking place, Hostel, Texas. So why can't she say where they were, when asked. I get not wanting to give any information to the police. But why would Evander get into trouble for going four hours away in the same state? As far as I know, you can't leave the state without letting your parole officer know. I don't think there's any reason you can't leave to a different part of the state a couple hours away and not stay overnight. But, I don't know all the particulars of the parole system, it just seemed kinda dumb to even mention.
Anyway, I'm onto the next one. I was kinda looking forward to learning more about the Hail brothers and find it interesting that the author starts with a guy we've never met in any of her books, not even Tate Casey, who helped Tobias out in 'FOR LOVE OF THE BEARD'. Anyway...
I did not hate the book. I did not love it either. She was a bit too naive and stupid for me to tolerate for an entire book. And Evander was strange.
What I HATED was why LLV felt the need to constantly kill animals in the book? I was upset about her killing a few dogs in prior books. But this book was a slaughterhouse. I found it nauseating and absolutely not a good topic for a romance book. It was a trial to read and I will NEVER re read this book.
I have no clue why her books have taken a turn for the worse, but I hope she returns back to her early writing.
I've read a few other books by this author and I like her writing style. However, when the subject is this book all I can say is that it didn't do it for me. I had too many problems with who the characters were as a whole (personality wise) that made me despise so much of story.
Kennedy was a pushover and I learned to hate her halfway through the book. I don't understand why she would bend over backwards to help people that were obviously using her for their benefit only. By the end, she seemed to have learned her lesson and developed a backbone, but that was too late for me.
Evander started out being a misunderstood guy that the whole town seemed to love to hate. He's been to prison for a crime he didn't commit and at first, I thought he was very well adjusted with it all. Around the last ten chapters of the novel, he did a 180 on his mood and how he treated Kennedy. He became overbearing and domineering. I also don't understand how "I want babies with you" is the ultimate declaration of love according to the heroine.
The romance started off as a slow burn, which was what kept me interested in the story. Halfway through the book, the relationship was established and then it felt like the author started scrambling for another plotline. The vengeance storyline was resolved way too easily and had no suspense considering these are standalone novels and the book was almost ending.
My Favorite Quotes:
"My level of sarcasm has gotten to the point where even I don't know whether I'm kidding or not."
"Don't break anybody's heart. They only have one. Break bones instead. They have two hundred and six."
"Second best was what I always seemed to be, yet never wanted to experience."
HAIL NO HAIL RAISERS series #1 Lani Lynn Vale Evander & Kennedy
This was my third re-read of HAIL NO. The heroine, Kennedy, will forever be one of my top female favorites, (most of LLV’s ladies are.) I’ve read few reviews regarding her character before I had to stop, frustrated. I think her quirkiness, devotion to the her family that she so desperately wanted a relationship with, was NOT “doormat material”, but found it absolutely endearing. Her inner thought process, written so well, that to me, she came off STRONG and willing to do anything for those she loved. That’s the bigger picture and it was done beautifully!
I was laughing my butt off and choking on my wine!
Evander. Lennox. Holy Heck! His alpha strong love for what’s right and loyalty for those that deserved it. Fan-freaking-tastic!
Their passion, unreal. Their devotion and undeniable pull, crazy intoxicating!
This storyline was a great introduction into the HAIL RAISERS series. If you are a Lani Lynn Fangirl... Highly suggested to get on it ASAP, if you haven’t already.
I don’t do a lot of reviews. I feel they are my raw thoughts that I set out there for people to judge. My love of my stories and for reading is selfish, with no apologies, but Lani deserves that bit of uncomfortable from me. XO
I have to be honest and say that I really like Lani Lynn Vale's writing, but I have missed out on starting more than a few series of hers. Will have to backtrack and pick them up at some point. When I saw she was starting a new series, I grabbed it right at the beginning, so I didn't miss out on another series of hers.
Evander and Kennedy are great together - they're like life lines for each other, and boy, do they need life lines. I was kind of overwhelmed by all the bad luck and bad relationships for both of them, but the book really got going for me with them together and not at the mercy of other terrible people around them. I love them with each other, them with all the animals, and Vale's sense of humor, especially when she is detailing Kennedy's character.
I'm glad to be back to a series of hers. Looking forward to the next book. This is a solid 4 for me.
The Hail Raisers is the newest series by my all time favourite author Lani Lynn Vale. The title of this book might be Hail No, but this book is definitely a Hail YES. Absolutely a five star if not a ten star read. This is Evander and Kennedy's story, two people who are outcasts by their family for no good reason. Kennedy is the crazy chicken lady, yes I said chicken not cat who sees the absolute good in Evander and doesn't judge him like everyone else seems to. Evander is the man with a heart the size of Texas who was wrongly jailed. Their story is full of drama, grit, sexy alpha men, appearances by some of our favourites from other series, some sad moments and steamy scenes that had my glasses all fogged up. To say I was a little in love with this pair is an understatement. This might be the first book in this series by I am already Hail addicted.
This was one of the worst stories I have ever read Completely unbelievable Horrible! Among other things A slap in the face to all cancer survivors! Name me one woman who has small children who discovers she has ovarian cancer would agree to chemo but not to have the surgery to lose the ovaries ... name one! This same woman was more worried about missing her upcoming cruise than anything else She gets an appointment for chemo within 3 days of diagnosis.... yuh- sure- Then, a day later she falls off a tractor and has severe enough injuries to kill her and within a week of her death her husband has sold their family farm to a corporation- And this is just a subplot I am dumbfounded why this book was even considered to be published. Oh, I know, it must have been one if those graduates from the university cheating scandal .....
Evander Lennox was in prison for four years for a crime he didn't commit. Now he is out and it seems that life just went on without him. His property is being treated as a dump and his brother and sister couldn't care less where he was. So now all he wants to do is his job, get his dog and just live his life. And maybe plan some revenge on the people that put him in jail.
Kennedy Swallow's parents were divorced when she was young. So they split the children down the middle and she was separated from her twin sister. Years later, her mother and sister has died of cancer, her brother can't work due to a accident and her father is in a wheel chair. Now her twin sister might be sick as well. Seems to her like her life is cursed, that is until she runs into Evander Lennox. But when she literally runs into him and he helps her it doesn't seem like he wants anything to do with her or a relationship. Until her chickens are killed by the neighbour's dog, the same neighbor/vet who held onto Van's Dog. So even though he wanted to keep his distance, Van can't help but be attracted to Kennedy and can't help but get involved with her.
But will she be enough for him or will his thirst for revenge ruin what they could have. And what is going on with Kennedy's twin sister and her husband problems.
I loved this story, this author knows how to keep you entertained. From the start of the chapter with the quotes/sayings and all through the book, there is things happening that will make you guess and wonder WTH. I loved both Evander and Kennedy. Kennedy was freaking hilarious, she was the lighter side of the relationship to Evander's Dark and Broody... And then there are the side characters, Travis and his story with Hannah. And what about the mysterious Rafe.... I love it!!
Hail No is the first book in the Hail Raisers series and I really liked it a lot. It has that Lani Lynn Vale touch but with the added suspense that was more prevalent in this one. It was a bit rougher around the edges and I loved it. While I always love her MC romances I am loving that we are getting different series but that still feel like you are coming back home when old friends are mentioned. It must be said it is NOT an MC romance, but what it is, is another amazing start to a new series. From the very first few sentences I was hooked and didn’t want to put it down at all.
Evander had this intensity, this edge to him that only added to his supposed dangerous persona. But what’s hard on the outside is sometimes the softest on the inside even if that softness only shows to certain people. He was wronged, yet his family, the one he chose not the one he was born into welcomed him home with open arms after being released from prison. While some of the town hates him and talks about him behind his back, the one person who should stay away from doesn’t and sees what everyone else doesn’t, that person is Kennedy.
Kennedy’s life has been hell to put it mildly. The amount of loss she has felt was enormous, the way people treat her is inexcusable and she needs a ray of light in her life when it appears dark all around her. Not that I would describe Evander as a light but he was there for her, he helped her, he shielded her, he made her feel like with him at her side she could take on the world. I loved the connection these two shared.
I can’t wait for the next book, hail (see what I did there ha) I can’t wait for the entire series. Lani Lynn Vale has given this book whore another new series to anticipate and enjoy!
Did you yell a shout of joy when you heard Lani Lynn Vale had a new series coming out? Oh yes, mine was probably heard in Iceland! I’m totally addicted to this author’s writing. It is funny, it is emotional. It is sexy hot. And it manages to bring out all the best (and worst) in families and friendships. Evander and Kennedy’s story fed that obsession in every way…
“Basically, if you can pull off a beard, you can pull off my underwear.”
Evander is a giant of a man. In strength, in stature and especially of heart. He keeps getting kicked, time after time, and yet still manages to get back up. He keeps to himself (no surprise) but through it all, he stayed this incredibly strong and caring man… With a beard! And he loves his dog! Honestly, it was all I could do not to crawl into the pages and scream “mine, all mine”! Thank goodness Kennedy was there, ready to take him on, bluster and all, and fight with him. For him.
“A big, sexy man like Evander holding tiny, fluffy baby chickens was enough to cause every hormone in my body to start firing.”
I laughed, I cried, I was completely immersed in this story from the very start. There were some parts of the story that felt unfinished, unresolved somehow. That didn’t stop me from marveling at this supposedly simple plot that soon was anything but. Heartbreak and betrayal meet true love in a story that has me yearning for more.
Insert swoon. Right here: “As long as you’re in my life, then I can do just about anything.”
